If you keep roping the stormbird to the ground so it can't fly and drop stuff on you, then it's fairly easy to kill. Was pretty hard before I started doing this ropecasting thing though...
Of the 3 Zeta machines, for being challenging easier-tough, it goes Thunderjaw, then Stormbird (Ropecaster makes short work of these guys), and then the Rockbreaker since it seems "smart" since it burrows underground to dodge and then hits you with that boulder barrage

There's a location mid west that has two stormbirds within a short running distance of each other. It's a mining frenzy jumping between the two. Also, a solid freeze and 6 precision arrows on a lodge does it too. 👍👍

Smart? I think this takes the entire fun of the game... I like using tripwires by putting them in the way of machines paths and making clever traps, but this is just. Well. Overkill. Boring as hell. Also, Stormbird is easy to rambo. Use freeze Arrows, after its frozen, spamm sharpshoot arrows. Kills it so fckn fast. This works for pretty much every machine that is not strong against freeze. Also, fighting machines different ways, learning how they move, finding new better ways, improving against them. That is what this game is about. But well, just set a 15 bombs trap and one shot them.. if that is fun to you. I think if you do that, you dont have to play the game at all. Because youre not getting the full experience anyways.
My first time fighting one of these I also had to fight off 6 longlegs too. Was down to barely any health and no medicine. Needless to say it was a very long drawn out fight.. and I won but now I think I'll use this method
Wow, you think watchers are bad? You must be terrible at the game. I play at the highest difficulty and dont have problems with either stormbirds or thunderjaws. And I dont even use those cheesestrats. It doesnt even work anymore as tripcaster dmg got nerved. even with 130% dmg boost from mods you dont reach 500 anymore. Still, just use Ice arrows to feeze them. Than use the sharpshot bow. That way you deal MASSIVE dmg to every machine. I oneshot Longlegs, 2 shot sawthooths and take slightly under a minute for thunderjaws and stormbirds that way. Though after I freeze the stormbird I always rope it to the ground so it stays down. But just layingthis trap and luring them into it... kinda takes all the fun away. Theyre not even that difficult to beat. When I read through this comments here I get the feeling that everyone is pretty bad at this game. Or I am just really good at it. One of those
Also +CHIEF CHICO Yeah, when one finds you 5 follow, I packed my Hunters Bow full with fire dmg mods just because those Glinthawks are weak to fire xD Thatll teach them.
I know your post is old, but if you've moved on to the latest upgrade and play the game on NG+ Ultra Hard the glint hawks are harder to take down with just fire arrows. I hit them with triple arrow sharp shot first to weaken them then bring them down with fire arrows.

I put out less tripwires like 7 or 8 then I lay down blast traps (the kind that explode when they take damage) all along the tripwire. usually 4 or 5 does it. For good measure I plant a shock trap by wear I stand incase the mob actually gets past it will hit the shock trap and give me time to react.

Methinks something about these "instant kill" strategies has been patched. Tried this. First of all, since I'm not quite at 500 dmg, just 460, I tried to go for 20 wires. I actually could put down 20, so no 15 max anymore? However, I couldn't whistle to get it to come down. I had to shoot a random arrow to make him descend A BIT, and then a rock to position him over the wires. Then Ropecaster, but one rope wasn't enough to pull him down to the wires, I had to actually fully tie it down. And then boom they went, sure. ALL OF THEM. It might be that since I'm not at 500 dmg I needed exactly 20, but the Rockbreaker strategy gave me problems too, so I'm thinking it's more likely that now all wires explode, even if they go over max hp.
I tried to kill this thing when you first find it in the game and succeded but it was a pain in the ass, in retrospective that probably was the way the game was telling that sometimes is ok to run away, but I had just completed dark souls 3 and sekiro so when I saw that thing I thought "Oh! That thing is on my way so I definetly have to kill it!" it was a very long fight, now I'm coming back to kill it with this method just for fun

nah cause then the watcher would activate one or two but not all of them i set up as many wires as i could then when the thunderjaw went to it it killed it but a couple of wires remained

You can easily get rid of the sawtooths with fire arrows. Hunter bow, 2-3 fire mods and one double arrow shot makes it burn right away. If you hide in the bushes while you shoot it won't even know what hit it. Rinse and repeat one or two times (2 on very hard).
After taking on the hunting Trial that involves a few Ravagers and a Thunderjaw a few times, I have a surplus of high level damage mods. I'll be applying them to my tripcaster and using strategies like this when I get home tonight. REKT! Indeed. Muahahahahahahahaha 0____0
i use frost to freeze it then tie it down, then just wail on it, the bird never gets a shot off and as long as im on my toes i can kill it, i will try this though, looks fun lol
There's something up with my game, or they've made major changes to it via updates, 'cause my 550 damage tripwires barely take stormbirds and thunderjaws to half HP. Also, it takes me so many attempts to get purple damage mods, let alone purple stealth mods (only had one the whole time I've been playing). Something feels really off. Thanks for the video though.
thejmeister To farm mods I simply kill Thunderjaws. All you need is 80% Tear from mods and triple arrow to knock out the saw launcher in one hit. (Not really required, but makes like easy) Pick it up then kill it with them.
I've seen that too and if you don't have the wires absolutely just right then you'll trip some of them like the ones that get touched first. You also want to use wire that can be set off by explosions, there is a wire that can't be triggered by other wires. I'm at work and can't remember the name but that was my mistake.
This isn't on max difficulty is it? I tried the exact same thing and it only brought it to 25%. I do have my tripcaster damage upgraded as well with the best damage mods I could find. Purple Tier.

Great method. I like using the corruption arrows from a distance and finish the mobs off after they beat the hell out of each other.

Purple stealth mods are very easy to get. You get them from the machines that turn invisible (forget what they're called).
