Okay, idk if this matters, but I play on UH. I would actually suggest (for anyone on this kind of stage in the game going one-on-one with a Rockbreaker) to knock its arms off. If you remove its means for surprise attacks, it becomes much less of a challenge to deal with. Against two, I think that your strategy is best because it is keeping the fight one-on-one, but against a singular Rockbreaker, I think the arms are a focus for the beginning. A melee resisting suit is also basically a must because they hit like literal trucks (I mean, look at them. Giant metal moles from hell). I would suggest tearblast arrows (since you're using the shadow bow) for the arms. Another way to tell that they're about to attack is the controller vibration. It'll vibrate really hard and then they'll attack. After you've knocked off all the arms, then you can pick away at any weak part of it without the threat of a surprise attack or ranged attacks. Freezing it will give you a small window of immobilization animation (like with the Scorchers). That's how I'd do it if you don't have endgame equipment. If you do have endgame equipment, simply freeze them and hit the exhaust port with triple Hardpoint arrows and reap the rewards. Two miscellaneous tips: 1. When a Rockbreaker is underground ANY noise you make can be heard, but above ground, they're deaf. 2. If you shoot an arrow on the ground while a Rockbreaker is underground, all Rockbreakers will pounce where the arrow hit, letting you set them up for traps (same with rocks but without a leaping jump).
@Sam Green, thanks for all these extra tips! I’ll pin this so people can find it easily. I think you’re right that you do want to destroy the claws for a 1-on-1 fight (so basically all the quests where you have to deal with Rockbreakers). I also hadn’t ever thought about baiting them out at a specific location by shooting an arrow/throwing a rock. That’s really clever! I’ll have to experiment with that. I play on UH as well, just doing Very Hard for these videos so people can see the health bar (plus I don’t think most people play on UH or anything close to it :) ). I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more Rockbreakers in FW. If so, I’ll definitely do an updated guide.
@@ArktixOfficial I wonder if Rockbreakers will get any kind of new attacks... It would be really cool to learn the new attack patterns and how to react to them.
Sir, I am playing this game after 2-3 years and having a far different experience this time around. In the Northwest I got ambushed by 4 ravagers and a random flock of longlegs. 2-3 years ago that would have been death in 30 seconds. But because of your videos, I wasn't trapped with them...they were trapped with me. Kudos.
I first fought this at the quarry mission. I hid behind a shed and kept knocking off his components. When I finally killed him, he was in a dive animation and he died going underground. So I never got to loot him.
Bro your videos are the absolute best guides for these game(s). I can honestly say that watching your videos has made me appreciate Zero Dawn a lot more, and have more fun playing. Thanks.
I’ve been watching your videos since I have been playing horizon zero dawn for the first time end of 2022, beginning of 2023 and I just beat this rock breaker easily. I normally default to fire damage but this video made me use the phrase damage and that fight in the rock quarry was super easy. Thanks love the videos.
Thanks so much! I had so much trouble with the one in The Frozen Wilds, I wasn't really sure how to dodge its attacks. Thanks to this turoial I took it down without much problem. Great video, I'll definitely watch more c:
I think these guys are the hardest machine in the base game by far, the level 32 corrupted zone with 2 of them was a nightmare for me on very hard, I couldn't imagine it on ultra hard.
my man comin in hot with the solution. I was having huge issues with a corrupted zone with two of those. I died over and over till i watched your video. They then went down the very next try! thanks!
Besides the Kena series you did, all ur vids are horizon zero dawn vids, and very helpful! The youtubers that aren't that popular makes the best content, continue on :D
you made this look so easy. im almost at end game for ultra hard for 2nd playthrough. i think my problem is having weapons i dont really need when dealing with annoying machines like this. this is another guide you put together so thoughtfully that should help me for NG+ Thank you!
This was helpful, like the other videos. One thing I also learned is that if you knock of their claws with tearblast arrows, they cant dig anymore. But doesnt seems like that is needed much if you do it like this.
good strategy. also u can stand on some rocks nearby and be immune to its ground based attacks... if u got cover u can be safe from its ranged attacks too. im sure some of them are big enough to give u good cover when u need to. probably near the edge of their territory. with maxed gear...u can kill a rockbreaker with a SINGLE triple shot of precision arrows on its exhaust when its frozen!
Cliff Notes - Use melee armor - 4-5 shots from a ropecaster to tie both down - freeze one with sling - once frozen, spam precision arrows at exhaust port with a sharpshot bow, utilizing concentration and hunter's reflexes as much as possible
I just hid in the tall grass and used pebbles to lure them out. Takes a little bit of patience, but once the whole body is out I just aim for the blaze compartment and rockbreaker is broken, lol pun intended
You can also hide behind the Y formed tree (in the back in minute 1:32 in the video) near the plains you fought on. Takes care of their ranged attacks and they cant follow you up there, since it is rock. Will cost you a bunch of arrows, but i still got them down, pretty low level (early game).
@@ArktixOfficial yeah I had to play it really chill. When I got there I hadn’t discovered the dodge functionality yet. So Ives’s always very wary before engaging. Luckily not much later discovered the button. 😅
Very good tips for me, lol. The first Rockbreaker I encountered at the Cut-Cliffs, I basically just hid in a small shack and kept shooting it...of course I lost most health...
First time I found these (the other day in fact), I gave them a couple of tries and then decided to move on. Then today, I found a Corruption site with a pair of Corrupted Rockbreakers. At this point, I had decided to buy the Shadow Sling and in one attempt, I tried to lay down a bunch of Proximity Bombs and also the proximity Blast Traps and attempted to bait at least one into this. Unfortunately it did not work as well as I had hoped. I will be sure to try and apply this in my next attempt, so thank you for these tips :)
Man I first found this brute in a side mission in a quarry 😂. At first it literally beat the shit out of me but once I realised it’s weak point I hid inside a shed and first disabled it’s digging capabilities to make it stay on ground . Once done, I ran to the top of the quarry and used my Shadow Sharpshooter on its one major component which was mounted on its back and surprisingly the poor animal could not hit me while I stayed well covered on top of the quarry 😅😂
For my first fight, I tied them down, shot the claws off and then did what you did. This helped me because it is just so hard to dodge them sometimes. Is the one in the side quest stronger? I think I fought a corrupted version too at some point
i dont know how much to thank you the freeze-exhaust tactic worked so well that i killed it in 45 seconds after trying to kill it for like 30 minutes lol
This is super helpful! Going to try these strategies on the Rockbreakers at the Corrupted site. Which brings a question: Do you think it's more worth it to detonate the fuel sac on the corrupted variant of the Rockbreaker, since being corrupted gives it a weakness to fire damage that the standard variant doesn't have? Or is it negligible in comparison to freezing it and going for shots on the exhaust port?
This and the thunderjaws are definitely cases where I really should've been using that ropecaster more. I neglected it hard and just about only used it in farming materials with harvest arrows (which is nice! you can get like 36 blazes from one grazer with that combo. It was how I refueled the obscene amount of blast tripwires I was using on everything!)
Been watching your vids, and they are helpful. Only problem is that every one of them so far relies on having that special rope caster. And I can't get one because I can't get a trapmaw heart. I've killed at least a dozen of them, but they never give me a heart!?!?
Thanks! Glad you're finding them helpful. Sorry you're not able to get that rope caster. Snapmaw hearts have about a 10% chance to drop, so you've probably just been a bit unlucky trying to get one. Kill a few more and you should get one. You may also be able to buy one from a vendor in Meridian. Good luck!
good strategy but I use fire instead of freeze, I use the ropecaster to tie them, then go for their blaze sacs, 1-2 blast bombs from blast sling will destroy their blaze sacs, which will tale out it's 40-50% health. it has 2 sacs. repeat it two times it will be left with 20-30% health. then spray your hardpoint arrows on its weak spot he'll be dead in seconds. mine works just as effectively
Rockbreakers seem to be based on creatures in the movie Tremors with Kevin Bacon. They just don’t swallow you up and devour you like the creatures in that movie and those weren’t machines or look anything like Rockbreakers, either really. The burrowing underground and sensing seismic vibrations from your movements, though, and they were enormous like Rockbreakers.
Hey, um I notice you used banuk bows on the ending, I was wondering, I have an adept war bow and a shadow hunter bow. Will this have the same offect? Just wanted to know so I can farm rockbreakers...
Cool! Yeah definitely head to the Frozen Wilds. If you have shadow gear you should be good to go. I went to the Frozen wilds my first time at level 12, which was probably a little early lol 😂
And also, I've fought a lot more rockbreakers with confidence recently, and I think your strategy is very nice! It works so well I now have around 3 rockbreaker hearts! This is now my main machine for farming shards, and before that, my main was the thunderjaw in the site where 2 spawns with a ton of lancehorns. Thanks so much, this is so much more fun expanding my machine mastering knowledge. Thanks so much and keep up the good work! Our thanks is beyond what can be put into words :D
Ah yeah I have seen that. I don't personally like playing with traps or wires, so I generally don't so those strats in my videos, but they certainly can work!
I honestly thought they were pretty easy because during my gameplay, I've only encountered them at a distance. I stay behind a little bump of sand. I look, shoot, shoot, hide and repeat. They never approach me so I can easily dodge their rocks.
Sorry for this but when i try to rope the rockbreaker idk why he go under before get stock, im using the golden ropecaster with 3 purple hanty mods (i dont remember the name of the ropecaster i think is the one from the hunters in meridian)
So if they dive underground before you get them fully tied down the ropes will break. You need to get enough ropes on them to fully tie them down before they dive. I hope that helps!
honestly, if you want to hit those rockbreakers on easy-mode, the easiest way I found was just to walk over to the nearby Ravager site, use tearblast arrows to knock off their cannons, kill the Ravagers, and then schlep the cannons back to near the Rockbreaker site. Once you start shooting the Rockbreakers with the cannon they stay above-ground, so you can just unload on both of them from a relatively safe distance. Of course, that's kinda cheating if the purpose was to learn how to fight them effectively :/
Man no matter how many times and which rockbreaker site i try, the ropecaster strat just doesn't work for me. They always dive underground and i have tried with the shadow ropecaster with 3 60 to 50% handling mods. I ran out of rope resource to keep trying. The only strat that i consistently get it to work is to shock them and remove their claws with the tearblaster which gets rid of their entire gimmick.
I guess I really cheated on this, I used 'Armor Weave' and just stood on a rock and blasted away, zero personal damage of course and they're pretty easy to track with the icon. Anyway I'm a rookie so Just wanted get the job done
This is actually the first of your guides, that just doesn't work for me. It is almost impossible to tie them down, because just when they're about to be tied down, they dive and rip all ropes. And yes, i use heavy ropes and three handling mods for fast shooting.
