I love the ropecaster for Crowd control, but i'm would love to know what this "secret" combat tips you have that negate this "tool" (playing my ultra hard NG+ run) Otherwise there plenty of things i agreed with and some interesting incite, thank you.
The "Tool" is used in situations players need help aiming, dodging and crowd controlling during. Good aim offsets a need to use Ropecaster to hit specific weakpoints. Proficiency in dodging and reading machine attacks and trajectories (even off screen enemies), offsets a worry of being hit. Understanding all of the machine weakpoints and how various elements impact them as well as, damage to stagger thresholds offsets a need for using the Ropecaster as CC. There is no "secret" combat tip or tips. Boils down to once a player has enough mechanical knowledge and skill regarding H:ZD, other than "for fun" the Ropecaster is worthless.
Was missing for me the info of where to get the weapons from, do they appear later in the game, how much they cost. Which modifications exactly did you put on them (percentage wise). Except that, a really interesting video. Thanks!
i fuckin LOVE the rattler - it fits my play style perfect and it destorys EVERYTHING in its path P.S btw, Great guide - the last guide i saw was complete balls and i learned Nothing other than repeating the obvious like " dont put mods on weapons that dont use the stat"....like dude really? Amazing Guide, i learned so much, and i love how its so in depth along with ur opinion and facts. also i dont really use the rope caster at all either, i love setting up traps and luring them in and manipulating all my enemies thru chokes and rip them apart with tear to get all my goodies. Once they look like they've been thru a shredder - a quick finish once they get close to me with the rattler - as it RIPS them in seconds. God i love this game - i didnt realize how good it was until i got past the starting area and into the dessert to start seeing all these Amazing mechs. Just Humungous and Hyper Aggressive creatures that will almost One shot you with one wrong move - i gotta say im actually now hooked after playing for 1 hr on and off thru the beginning areas.
I'm glad you enjoyed this guide! If you haven't yet, I would suggest you watch my Elemental Tutorial. It spoils all machine types, but provides a much needed breakdown of how Elemental effects and weapons function.
I just don't understand why my tearblast arrows don't work on ultra hard. Why don't the Thunderjaws' disc launchers fall off when I hit them directly with 10 tearblast arrows? I started using ropecaster to tear off disclaunchers, since ropecasters stun the enemy, giving me ample time to tie down and tear off every component I don't want to deal with.
Rattler is best used on frozen targets. I was wondering why the Rattler seems to melt frozen shit, meanwhile my blast sling seems to need to stack quite a few bombs on things even when they're frozen.
Rattler Bolts do Pierce damage, which has a multiplier to frozen targets of 300% bonus to body and 200% bonus to weak points. Bombs do 25% bonus damage to frozen targets which is significantly less. I definitely prefer Bows to the Rattler, but if someone is going to use the Rattler they should absolutely take advantage of Freeze when possible.
Not doing a "best place" to farm video. Preparing for Ultra Hard = game knowledge which is what this video and my Elemental Tutorial provide. I am planning on a "tips and tricks" video as well as Damage multiplier tutorial.
Great video to come across. I'm currently working on ultra hard. Thanks for making this. I love the Banuk weapons but unfortunately haven't been able to get through the upgrades do to The Frozen Wilds haunting me on ultra hard haha. Right on, The Powershot Bow is my favorite bow. The Stormslinger is a great weapon as well, good call. Are harvest arrow beneficial on ultra hard then? Since resources are more expensive at that difficulty.
Harvest Arrows certainly can be beneficial on Ultra Hard. Just make sure not to waste them on live targets. When the goal is resource efficiency, a potential for losing resources via missing Arrows when shooting live machines with Harvest Arrows isn't the best idea. Dead machines are much easier to harvest resources from, more resource gain overall due to practically unmissable components on dead machines.
I'm up with you, that's why I decided to play two NG+, one for normal (upgrading all weapons & armors, including FW), and second ultra-hard - when everything is already upgraded. It makes even more sense, taking into account that special super coils (which you can find in FW) appears all over again every time when you play NG+ (after completing previous game, of course), that way you can collect these unique super-coils again and again, eventually having multiple same "unique coil" (which become not unique after all), e.g. you install all of them on one weapon.
It would be great if you had a list you could add to the description of the video or as a pinned comment, what the actual mods (including modifier values) that you've added to each weapon.
Three 50% Freeze 25% Damage coils are the coils used for this Icerail. This is a Very Rare coil a player can obtain through RNG from anything that yields a Purple coil, machines, coil boxes, etc.
Thank You! Boosting the fire stat increases how quickly you can inflict the fire status. In order to boost the damage of the dot caused by fire status, you need to also boost the damage. Fire = just to lite them, Fire/Damage = dot hurts more.
@Psykko_ This is false though... I am pretty sure the DOT that the Burn status does is static based on the machine size. Where are you getting this from?
In my experience, someone always has "better" from a certain perspective. Between my PS4 Save and PC Save, I am 100 content with what I have. So to me, what I have on PC at the moment is perfect.
I don't really understand what you're saying here about Fire damage. I thought Fire tick damage was static based on the difficult & size of the machine.... You're saying you can somehow increase the damage the Burn status does per second? Or are you referring to the damage that Fire arrows themselves do? I can't make any sense of the included Fire damage spreadsheet... I don't understand at all as it doesn't really make any sense.
The damage over time effect from Fire Arrows and any Fire Weapon scale with both Fire and Damage coils equally. I think my Elemental Tutorial may help clear up a tad regarding how elemental effects work if you would like to check it out: th-cam.com/video/wz5FAsT9nYw/w-d-xo.html
@Psykko_ My apologies, I was not aware of this! I was actually just now watching thru your Elemental video & it is indeed very informative! Thanks for the great content!
I think the elemental resistance percentage is broken. My banuk trailblazer has 105% resistance to fire..yet I still take damage from fire? Isn't 100% resist all?
I am quite curious, this game has some sort of combat system? I have tried sniping in combat, but it was an utter failure. Targets move in three axes and my arrows have flight time. Reliably hitting anything even in slow mode is beyond me. So I gave up and started arrow spam which... works perfectly. And switched for Ropecaster against bigger enemies. Why waste time on sniping when I can just blow them up?
This game definitely has a combat system and combat feels much more rewarding and satisfying when the combat system is taken advantage of. Arrows do have flight time, which means you have to account for this when shooting at machines and lead your shots.
Lot of factors into that question. But basically, Striker and Powershot bows coil for Damage and handling. If you can’t max both stats, fiddle around with what you like for Damage / Handling balance. Don’t underestimate handling.
@@Psykko_sorry I just have one more question. There is no slot for mods on my purple sylens’ lance i don’t know if they changed it or what, or is there a quest i have to do to unlock it
You can find these mods on the DLC Frozen Wilds, there is a very good video explanation on how to get all the mods just search on youtube: Unique mod tutorial.
Hey, i'm doing a ultra hard normal ng gameplay and i'm at the mission where u sneak into the eclipse base and destroy their communication web, but i'm using the inicial bow still, i wanted to save as much shards as possible to get the shadow versions of every weapon, but it's being so hard, the weapons are so pricy, what can i do relieve this weapon problem a bit, using only the first bow isn't holding me back a lot, but i feel that i lack damage for everything
You lack damage for everything because you are attempting to do quality damage with little knowledge of the combat system as you brute force your way through the story while ignoring most exploration and side quests. Best weapons are in the DLC area, you can obtain at least two without having to do quests in that area, the DLC Weapons cost blue gleam a resource found on the ground in the DLC area.
So ok, i'm gonna go get the blue gleam weapons as a first thing to do, and yeah i was trying to brute force my way though to get the best weapons all together, but it seems the devs made the economy on ultrahard for you to explore every single meter of the map on you way to get as much shards and itens as possible, which is not a bad thing overall, encourages exploration over everything else
hey brotha... thank you for the awesome magnificent guide you got a subscriber...! say... question... does the tear coil mods still not affect sharpshooter bows' tear blast arrows... is it still a broken stat or is it fixed now and can i use the bow for tearing in my arsenall.. also what do you think would be an all around best loadout for very hard dificulty... cheers and thanks again!
I go over your Tear/Tearblast Arrow question during my Precision bow section at around 8 minutes. Optimal loadout on any difficulty is situationally based depending on player strengths, weaknesses and coil availability.
What armor setup do you use in this video? I have the Ultra Weave Armor and the Adept Protector Armor but I still get slaughtered on Ultra Hard New Game.
Hello, off topic but I'm playing on UH and went on doing Ikrie's challenge but didn't get rewards, outfit and XP. Did get 3 bluegleam for killing 10 out of 10 machines and the errand shows to be completed. What is going on??
This video is crazy useful, I don't get how you managed to have all those unique coils... I thought you could have just one per game! (I hope the answer is not that you completed the game twenty times)
Hey, thanks for such a great and i formative guide. I am planning to start a ng+ ultra hard but I don't want to grind TFW unique mods by replaying the main game over and over. Could you please share your latest and perfect save file so that I can use that to create a ng+ Thanks in advance!
I just wanted to ask how do you get perfect weapon coils for example: 67% handling, 50% damage, 30% spear damage ect... Is it from thunderjaws or frost/fireclaw or demonic frost/fireclaw? because I have not yet gotten one
hey, nice video. I got a question! how do you reload your 3 arrows without opening scope? is it like quick scoping but you do it so fast that it doesn't open?
Players can knock Arrows without raising bow to aim. Handling increases the speed of Aloys ability to knock and draw the bow. Players can actually even knock Arrows while Aloy is mid roll. 🤣
Was going to ask how you knocked the arrows so fast. Thank you for the video and for answering everyone's questions, you made those rockbreakers look like absolute push overs. Gotta get my game up.
Hey there. I'm a bit late to the game. Thank you so much for the amazing video. I have a couple questions though. Just finished the game on ultra hard (not NG+) not knowing there was an achievement doing so in NG+. Anyway, as I watched your guide my jaw dropped since I haven't seen any damage like those of yours. The most I had was on fireclaws, hitting them on the belly container after freezing them which was around 1200+ damage. Does it go up in NG+? The other thing I noticed was how fast you could freeze the mobs. It takes full 12 freeze bombs sometimes a couple more with my shadow sling to freeze a fireclaw while it is fully coiled with freeze coils (+42% x2 and +40%). I gave up freeze arrows from my Banuk Champion Bow again fully coiled with freeze coils (+40% x2 and +38%) seeing how slow it builds up and fireclaws are no joke to me at this state. So I couldn't risk taking collosal damage while trying to freeze it bit by bit with freeze arrows. One last thing, you seem to do extremely well on aiming thunderjaws' heart area the eyes of the machines etc. How do u achieve this level of precision? Do you do anything special to be that accurate? Or is there a setting I may have missed? Cus even when I slow time when aiming I cannot be that accurate. That is probably on me since I'm don't count myself as skilled in games. Seems like I'm yet to learn some game mechanics that are not revealed to me so far cus it seems I am doing some things totally wrong. Thanks again.
Greetings, I'm new to this game and I am on my first playthrough, should I buy the banuk versions of these weapons or do you recommend waiting for NG+ for the adept ones, any feedback would be appreciated. Great and informative videos are on your channel and I thank you in advance. 💯
Banuk weapons cost resources found in the DLC, they don’t have a shard or machine component cost until NG+. There is no downside to obtaining DLC weapons on your first play through and plenty of Blue Gleam available to do so. There is enough blue gleam per play through to facilitate the purchase of every dlc weapon and armor.
Thank you for the response I appreciate that, it helps me make my decision, I have 18 bluegleam stocked up so I will probably either get one of the weapons or one of the outfits. Good looking out. 💯
You can get 1 Pristine weapon coil per play through after completing “out of the forge” and the main story. Create a NG+ save file, then complete out of the forge and the main HZD story again, create NG+ save, rinse repeat!
Hey there, nice guide! Looking forward to get more or less the same mods (sadly the perfect ones are limited from what I understand). Can I ask you if the non-perfect purple mods you used have higher stats because you're playing New Game Plus? Or is it possible to gain them by farming them normally even during your first run? I'm asking because I don't think I ever found a 50% Ice 25% damage coil, nor the other ones you used on the Banuk War Bow.
The DLC coils/weaves have Yellow Notches, a player can obtain 1 of each unique DLC coil/weave per playthrough. NG+ doesn't impact quality of RNG coil drops to my knowledge. Max stat coils/weaves are rather rare and generally take a decent amount of time to obtain.
The Thunderjaw heart has a 5x damage multiplier when hit by Pierce damage ammo. Big numbers are fun to see/cause and can speed up the time it takes to kill a machine.
@Psykko It takes me four shots to kill a thunder jaw. Theyre pretty easy to kill, yet I see all the youtubers do fancy slow mo kills and aiming for the heart. I really dont get it when you can just kill them so much more easily then all that sillyness

Otherwise there plenty of things i agreed with and some interesting incite, thank you.
@@Psykko_
yes they die so fast...no time for a ropecaster LOL
Was missing for me the info of where to get the weapons from, do they appear later in the game, how much they cost.
Which modifications exactly did you put on them (percentage wise).
Except that, a really interesting video. Thanks!
This is super helpful!! And also you are very good at the actions it's just very enjoyable to watch your gameplay :p
Awww, thank you!
i fuckin LOVE the rattler - it fits my play style perfect and it destorys EVERYTHING in its path
P.S btw, Great guide - the last guide i saw was complete balls and i learned Nothing other than repeating the obvious like " dont put mods on weapons that dont use the stat"....like dude really?
Tear-blast effectiveness on Ultra Hard is reduced to half compared to all non story difficulty levels.
I'm not in games+, what is the best alternative (shadow weapons, frozen dlc weapons?)
Wait you use the harvest arrow on the destroyed machine?
Yes.
Would you do a video on best places to farm purple mods, and best ways to prepare for an ultra hard + playthrough?
I mention at the start of the video for viewers to check the description if they are curious about which coils I use for each weapon.
@@Psykko_ Cheers for that - the ad links detract from the "show more button being clearly visible. I'll make good use of that tomorrow.
what coils do i need for the fire bow that kills sawtooth in one triple awrow shot?
Depends on difficulty, use the fire damage calculator.
@@Psykko_ ok thanks
4:53 what kind of coils you used on that weapon and where i can get em?
Three 50% Freeze 25% Damage coils are the coils used for this Icerail.
This is a Very Rare coil a player can obtain through RNG from anything that yields a Purple coil, machines, coil boxes, etc.
@@Psykko_ got it thx
does boosting fire on the bow for example increase how much dmg it does? or just how quickly it's applied? this video is amazing btw
Very nice shot.
are we gonna ignore the fact that he has the best arsenal in the game🥵
In my experience, someone always has "better" from a certain perspective. Between my PS4 Save and PC Save, I am 100 content with what I have. So to me, what I have on PC at the moment is perfect.
Do frozen wild bows do better then lodge weapons
DLC Weapons have greater potential than their main game counterparts.
In the champion bow section, how are you swapping arrows without bringing up the wheel? Is it a PC thing?
Weapons are bound to my mouse on PC
@@Psykko_ Ah, thanks.
@@skins4thewin You’re welcome! I’m glad you learned something new!
So exactly how many time you do newgame+ to claim all those unique untest coin dmg to put on all those bow?
Way more than my Coils and Weaves suggest.
I think the elemental resistance percentage is broken. My banuk trailblazer has 105% resistance to fire..yet I still take damage from fire? Isn't 100% resist all?
No, 100% of a resistance stat does not = immunity.
If you were using a PowerShot bow and a striker bow in the same loadout what coils would you put on them
Lot of factors into that question. But basically, Striker and Powershot bows coil for Damage and handling. If you can’t max both stats, fiddle around with what you like for Damage / Handling balance. Don’t underestimate handling.
@@Psykko_ ok I will play around with it
Thanks
@@Psykko_sorry I just have one more question. There is no slot for mods on my purple sylens’ lance i don’t know if they changed it or what, or is there a quest i have to do to unlock it
This might be me being an idoit or not playing the game fir a long time but where do you get the prestine handling coils? Much help is appreciated
You can find these mods on the DLC Frozen Wilds, there is a very good video explanation on how to get all the mods just search on youtube: Unique mod tutorial.
So what’s the best bow in the game
I believe I covered this in the video! The Striker Bow in my opinion is the best Bow in the game.
My brain: 🥴

Hey how do we get Adept weapons
I currently have only banuk weapons
New Game + offers Adept Weapons and armor.
@@Psykko_ Thanks a lot man.
Now I will grind in new game + for purple modifications instead of normal game mode
Nice vid..i've had combine handling with dmg gems and could do over 6000 dmg on frozen rockbreakers..lol
I was thinking of trying to get the hunting grounds weapons, but they look to far away, or trying frozen wilds early game for some weapons
So ok, i'm gonna go get the blue gleam weapons as a first thing to do, and yeah i was trying to brute force my way though to get the best weapons all together, but it seems the devs made the economy on ultrahard for you to explore every single meter of the map on you way to get as much shards and itens as possible, which is not a bad thing overall, encourages exploration over everything else
how to do 4100 damage to the mole, I only do 900 using the same weapon and shooting it in the same place (while frozen)
Max stat weapon.
I just started NG+ on Ultra hard, which one you prefer to get first, adept shadow and adept lodge or adept banuk champion?
Adept Striker
Where do you get the adept weapons? I’ve gotten the Banuk but haven’t seen the adept
Adept weapons and armor are obtained in New Game+ playthroughs. Maybe I should make a "how to get the best weapons/mods video."
Ah yeah didn’t think about that.
@@Psykko_ yeah definitely would t hurt.
hey brotha... thank you for the awesome magnificent guide you got a subscriber...! say... question... does the tear coil mods still not affect sharpshooter bows' tear blast arrows... is it still a broken stat or is it fixed now and can i use the bow for tearing in my arsenall.. also what do you think would be an all around best loadout for very hard dificulty... cheers and thanks again!
I use Nora Silent Hunter Adept generally, the specific Weaves I use and why is in a different videos on my channel.
Hello, off topic but I'm playing on UH and went on doing Ikrie's challenge but didn't get rewards, outfit and XP. Did get 3 bluegleam for killing 10 out of 10 machines and the errand shows to be completed. What is going on??
What mods are you using to get 50 frost on the champion bow with only 1 freeze mod?
My handling coils on my Champion Bow all have Freeze as well.
Why do I only have 2 mod slots on each weapon
This video is crazy useful, I don't get how you managed to have all those unique coils... I thought you could have just one per game!
(I hope the answer is not that you completed the game twenty times)
That is the answer, I have completed Horizon Zero Dawn 100s of times over the years. I’m glad you found this video useful.
Hey, thanks for such a great and i formative guide. I am planning to start a ng+ ultra hard but I don't want to grind TFW unique mods by replaying the main game over and over.
Could you please share your latest and perfect save file so that I can use that to create a ng+
Thanks in advance!
No in advance!
You are welcome for the guide however, I enjoyed theory crafting this game.
Is there any specific reason for not sharing the save file?
Many.
I said no, and no means no!
Have a good one!
Alright! No problem. You too have a good day.
Thanks so much for the video
Could you tell me how you reload the 3 arrows so insanely fast 😅
Handling and fastish fingers.
I just wanted to ask how do you get perfect weapon coils for example: 67% handling, 50% damage, 30% spear damage ect... Is it from thunderjaws or frost/fireclaw or demonic frost/fireclaw? because I have not yet gotten one
RNG and lots of time spent farming and/or replaying the game for unique DLC coils.
@@Psykko_ Does difficulty matter? Does it affect RNG drop chances?
@@masonmansfield3922 Doesn’t seem to, look for the “Hammer and Steel” method of farming coils. Fastest coils per hour.
@@Psykko_ Okay, thank you!
hey, nice video.
@@Psykko_ "Players can knock Arrows without raising bow to aim." how to do that?
How to get those mods you have on weapons?
how to get four slots for modifications in bow
NG+
I would check out my Elemental Tutorial for mechanical tips! Quite a few of your questions can be answered there!
The spreadsheet to calc the fire damage is broken for me
That's unfortunate, I'll have a peek at it later.
my weopons has three coils, where did i go wrong, do i have to do side quests
An additional slot is on “Adept” weapons and armor is obtainable in New Game+
I highly recommend the Striker Bow for your first bluegleam purchase!
You’re welcome!
I love using freeze and hi dps/atk.
I love how youre typing "high"
@@karolpalarz2871 just as much as I love how you are typing youre instead of “you’re”
Does it matter in what order mods are added to weapons?
To my knowledge, mods will provide the same stat value regardless of what slot or order they are added onto weapons / armor.
@@Psykko_ thanks!
Are the adept weapons better than the banuks from frozen wild?
Adept = New Game+ Variation of Purple quality weapons and armor.
@@Psykko_ oh ok thanks 🙏
Hi whats with the “Adept” name in weapons how can I get that?
New Game+
Where does the DLC weapons fit here?
DLC weapons have yellow outlines and notches on their icon.
How do you get 3 pristine weapon coils?
You can get 1 Pristine weapon coil per play through after completing “out of the forge” and the main story. Create a NG+ save file, then complete out of the forge and the main HZD story again, create NG+ save, rinse repeat!
This is good information so I gave you would like to bring it up to 155
Hey there, nice guide!
@@Psykko_ Ah I see, so It's just a matter of farming Purple mods until you get the best one. Thanks for answering!
@@christheplayer99 You're welcome! Happy to share my HZD knowledge.
Im confused as to why everyone always aims for the heart of the thunderjaw??? What's the point of this?
The Thunderjaw heart has a 5x damage multiplier when hit by Pierce damage ammo. Big numbers are fun to see/cause and can speed up the time it takes to kill a machine.
@Psykko It takes me four shots to kill a thunder jaw. Theyre pretty easy to kill, yet I see all the youtubers do fancy slow mo kills and aiming for the heart. I really dont get it when you can just kill them so much more easily then all that sillyness
