You're correct - Yakeda make the version with the press-stud closures and they also now offer it in ATACS-FG, a real shame they don't have DPM. The two under-arm utility pouches have regular buckle closures.
If you really dislike the Spanish buckles you can easily remove and buy a press-stud kit and affix them to the flaps.

Very cool video on an affordable and effective piece of gear. I liked that you listed where it came from (the Chicom Type 56), and how that design is still relevant today.

The Chicom will never go out of fashion! I have two versions of it ready to make videos about as well. And then I'll be modding one of them to make it a more modern platform too

@AirsoftReviewArgentina I have! They look pretty solid. I’ll be working on a video of their training mini rig soon, so I can add their chicom to the list I guess. I’ve been looking at the Hub City Outdoors versions too. They look really great!

Curious what's the issue with spanish buckles just personal preference of is there an actual problem with them?

the TL:DR is, I just don't like them.
As a quick release buckle, they can be great. Super quick to open and rip that pouch up and out of the way in a hurry. Re securing them can be a little more tricky. Personally, I'd rather have no buckles at all, just a pop fastener or velcro.

This one is actually made of thick XTP 1100 polyester, which is not only water and dust resistant but also IRR treated so you don’t glow up in infra red according Highlander themselves.
I have an original NI chest rig but imo it’s very bulky and the buckles are not very optimal from my own experience.
Just ordered this and I’ll see if it’s any better for me, I personally like the Spanish fly.

I recently did a test, there's an update video coming about the IRR treatment. Under both analogue and digital night vision with the IR flood this rig glows as white as snow. Which isn't ideal. I just rea read your comment... "Spanish Fly" I didn't know this rig was made by Bill Cosby haha
