They both are pretty much the same shoes, except one is with carbon and the other Nylon plates in the midsoles. I’d get the trainer version to save some money.
I've just ordered the Valkyrie Carbon Elite with a great price here in Europe, i was going to buy the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 but now i need these Valkyrie Speedworks instead 😅
Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT. Great look, great traction in all conditions, great tread life, almost no road noise. They do tend to hang on to smaller rocks and throw them out at highway speeds. I have them and love them. Will buy again if these ever wear out. I have 45,000 miles these and they still have tread left.
Did you find the Speedworks true to size? With narrow-toebox shoes I often have to go up half a size. But with roomy-toebox shoes (Topo), usual size. Based on what you said this shoe sounds ideal for long tempo runs!
@@kmshultz it's a half size short on length but true to size on volume. So if you are someone that has to go half size up just for more volume this shoe would be perfect in true to size.
@@AuDHDRunner Thank you, been running in the shoe a few months now. I took @edouard's advice to size up 1/2 size and it was spot on. Btw I live in Missouri!
Tyr is the norse god of war, and the namesake of Tuesday (Tyrs day). Older spellings of Tyr is Tiwaz or Teiwaz he etymology is related to the greek god Zeus, and the original deus/divas meaning simply "god" in latin. Pretty damn interesting when you read up on it!
Great comparison, thanks! I could not get along with the fit of the Endo Speed 4 due to that aggressive toe box taper. Super keen to try the Speedworks, especially giving us a more generous foam stack than others!
Thank you for talking about where the shoes are made. I would like to see this in every review out there. It matters. I'm not getting into the good, the bad, whatever... but it matters.
8K subs. Should be close to 9K by the time you run your marathon at the current rate. These TYR shoes look very accessible to the average runner and with quality materials.
Thanks dude super helpful. How's the off-road performance? I don't do anything crazy but need good grip in the mud since it rains so much in NC. The BFGs were amazing in the mud
Can you please give a quick snapshot outlining the main differences between this and the Valkyrie Elite Carbon? From the onset, they seem very similar aside from what the plate is made of.
The weight is different, fit is different and they both run a little snug the upper is different as well the speedwork is just geared more toward training and both are very stable
They are really similar looking and on foot. The only difference that's meaningful is the plate - other than that they feel identical. I got a little more speed assistance in the carbon but it's almost an endorphin speed 2 vs pro 2 situation where the rides are super close together. Speedworks would make a great budget racer like the speed 2
Those are some clean looking shoes! Will be interesting to see how quickly they get dirty as you push to 100 with them. Agree with you that they probably should've used a black outsole, but looks like you'll be turning it black anyway 😆
Thanks for the review! Do you think these would be a good tempo day shoe for someone training for his first marathon and looking at a 3:40 to 3:50 finish? I am 6' 1" 170lbs.
Absolutely - perfect use case for this shoe! I'm around the same size and loved it. It's great at that 7 minute pace range where you're be doing a lot of those tempo runs
@@supwell My tempo runs won't be nearly that fast unless I'm doing my calculations wrong. Goal marathon pace will be 8:20 or 8:30 maybe. Easy runs in 9:00 to 10:00 range. I'm similar size to you, but much slower, so wondering if that will make this shoe awkward. Looking forward to the plateless Topo Specter 2 in a few months, might be more my speed. Thanks for the quick response!
As a mid to forefoot striker, foam in the front of the shoe is more important than the heel, so low drop shoes like the TYR that put a few more mm in the forefoot appeal to me. The flat bottom of this one concerns me though, as my favorite shoes, like Mach 5 and ES3, feature good rockers.
Ordered a pair from a Spanish outlet to the UK. Not sold anywhere in UK. Hac to go for the black colour as there going to get me through a wet winter, white shoes in UK winter are a no go!
A bit late to the party here, I got a pair of Speedworks and absolutely love them. But after a few 10k+ runs, I found the hardened piece at the toe box upper area gave me pretty serious black big toenails (from toenails banging against the hard fabric). I have never had this in any other shoes in the past. And the length of the shoe TTS for me vs other well fitting shoes. Wondering if you came across this issue?
it definitely feels short to me at the front in my normal size. i think i could've gone up half a size and that would've resolved the issue - i believe it's because of the aggressive toe curve at the front
Do you notice a difference in stiffness between the Elite Carbon and the Speedworks? I need a stiff daily trainer and I understand carbon is usually stiffer, but if there isn't much of a difference, the Speedworks becomes attractive as it is significantly cheaper.
@@supwell this may seem like a simple question/answer, but it is actually really helpful information for me. I'm struggling with a Morton's neuroma and have been recommended a less flexible shoe to help with the condition. So now I'm looking for something that combines stiffness, versatility, and a larger toe box. I simply wouldn't be able to find this kind of information anywhere else. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer it 🙏 Ps.: your channel rocks!
Yeah probably not worth it to have both if your speed 3 is brand new. This is a little firmer and I think will hold up better for 2+ hour long runs but they are pretty similar
need to get some more miles in both! but i remember the speedworks being a little firmer and the neo vista having more of a roll. but i haven't done true workouts in either
Anatomical toe box sadly does not automatically mean wide foot shape. It simply means there's more room for the toes. Topo has an anatomical toe box but quite narrow midfoot too.
@@successfulstone the midfoot is okay for me, it is my toes that are still being crushed in the front. I’m going to keep wearing it and hope it loosens up a bit. The shoe feels great
I have a pair of the Speed 2, which is same midsole as Speed 1. The TYR is definitely similar! It's noticeably firmer then the Saucony at slower paces but similar bounce and roll
Take the insole out of the Saucony pro4 and put the insole from the Saucony endorphin pro2/speed 2 in the pro4..I think you will like the pro4 much better with the best insole Saucony has made for years..
I know Saucony has implemented their pwrrun plus insoles in many of their trainers. I bought a few pairs from insole geeks, a 3rd party seller specialized in various insoles. It’s unfortunate Saucony doesn’t sell their insoles separately.
It is hard for me personally to take anything over my beloved Boston 12s lol but I think people who found the bostons too firm will really like these. They're more cushioned and slightly firmer than the endorphin speeds but a good amount softer out of the box than a fresh pair of bostons. Also the rocker in these is a bit smoother than the bostons for forefoot landing
@@supwellpicked up the Speedworks. For what I do I don’t think I need the Boston 12 quite yet. Plus I love my TYR trainers so excited to give there a try.
Boston is definitely more stable and firmer. Really different. Speedworks are bit unstable IMO. They have an inward slant to the midsole like an Asics vs the slightly outward slant of the Boston or Endo Speed. I don't pronate but you definitely feel it in your ankles, arches, and calves first few runs in the speedworks coming from the Boston.
I want to try this shoe so badly but they don’t make a women’s version. They simply market the standard men’s width D as a woman’s shoe on their website which is b.s. I understand it’s a new market for them but no way am I spending any money much less $170 on a shoe designed for a wider foot.
Great vid and thanks for getting the TYR name correct. Now can you start saying Pew- Ma correct as well please. Like over 80% of the world's runners do, including PUMA themselves. Instead of some slang which means SH1T.😅
Since Puma uses the cat as a logo, it makes absolutely no sense to pronounce it any different than said cat. But then again, most Americans make a mess of Adidas too.
@@theghostofpcs2391 I don’t find it a big deal to pronounce the brand name differently from country to country. What matters is it conveys. The opposing pronunciations of words like “tomato, “potato,” “either,” or “neither”can differ in American and British English. Let’s call the whole thing off…
