Excellent review, Matt. I love the Speed 3 except for the tightness in the toe box. Pro 3 is my race day shoe and i have the same issue with that shoe. I love my Sauconys, but your review has led me to look more closely at Tyr. I'll be trying on a pair of the Speedworks soon. Thank you!
This is a good comparison. I have already purchased the TYR Elite Carbon over the Saucony Pro 4. However now I need to decide on my companion trainer 🎉
Nice comparison, I much prefer the Speedworks and returned the ES4. The Speedworks is what the Endo Speed once was - a nylon plated race shoe. There's a massive market for this, as not everyone gets along with the super stiff race shoes. Saucony lost its way by trying to make the Endo Speed more like a daily trainer - they've got daily trainers so keep the Speed a speed shoe! The aggressive toebox taper in the Endo Speed is also a fail, Speedworks much more comfortable up front. 4-6mm drop for the win!
Cheers, Dallas! Yep, I agree with all that. I'm a little surprised I haven't seen the Speedworks jump in popularity more than it has. Everyone who watches my video seems to be really interested in them and the runners who have run in them have nothing bad to say!
Excellent comparison, Matt! I'd guess that TYR studied the Endorphin Pro/Speed combo very carefully while planning their running shoe lineup. Based on what I see here, I'd favor the Speedworks with the snappier ride and lower drop and I like TYR's aesthetic too, but either one should be up to the job. Either way you have to do the work. That's what really matters.
You're right about the work, Eddie! I love it when a (fast) runner knocks out an impressive time in a normal daily trainer, or some other unassuming shoe. It just reiterates the engine has a pretty big impact on performance.
How would you say the Takumi Sen 10 stacks up? I have the Endorphin Speed 3 and honestly don't see what all the fuss is about? They are light and easy to turn over in terms of pace but there is no excitement to the shoe. I don't feel any snap/spring. I'm a more muscular runner (5'10, 210) but still average a 6:00 - 6:20 mile on my speed days and working those numbers down as I get back in to running shape. So maybe that plays a roll in the lack of snap from the Endorphin.
The Takumi Sen 10 is a little firmer with a lower stack height, so there is going to be more road feel. The TS10 is definitely for shorter distances than the ES4. I understand what you mean about not seeing what the fuss is about. When we hear all the excitement surrounding a particular shoe, and how fast it feels to some people, it's easy to be disappointed when we don't feel what we expect.
Haven't had much success with the speed series from Saucony..doesn't fit well..at some point I will try the Tyr shoes..I always choose a 5-6 drop shoe over a higher drop every time..being a forefoot striker with high arches the high drop makes a bad situation even worse..some reviews say the Tyr shoes are not very well cushioned..that is always a deal breaker for me..
Be only run in two TYR shoes, the Valkyrie Elite and the Valkyrie Speedworks. Both have excellent cushioning. No issues in that department. The 6mm may make this exactly what you’re looking for! 👊🏽
Majority of my shoes are in 6-8 range and that is my preferred range but I have some shoes with 4-5 mm drop (mostly trail). I am yet to try TYR Valkyrie Speedworks but from what I read I think I would enjoy them more. I think Valkyrie will be more durable for heel landers. I still have a 2 of pairs of Speed 2 new in box (regular and RunShield) and a low usage Speed 3 that I will be putting more miles as a daily shoe. I will probably consider getting this towards the end of the year or if they ever go on sale. Speaking of sales: I got two shoes delivered yesterday: Brooks Aurora-BL and Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 2, both in white colorways. I got Aurora-BL for $110+tax (45% off) and WRP2 for $140+tax (44% off). I keep saying I don't need any more shoes but run more but when I encounter these discounts, I can't help out. Both opportunities are now gone. Even my local Mizuno rep was surprised.
Both those buys were total scores! Good job snagging them while they were available! How many shoes do you have? I need to shed some to make room, and I've been thinking of getting rid of my low mileage Speed 3s as it's unlikely i'll run in them again now I have the Speed 4s.
@@its_Matt_B_ Can I take a fifth? 😅I have about 30 pairs now 🫢 I've run in about 20 pairs of them. Some are duplicate pairs of the shoes I liked. I will retire 3-4 pairs by the end of the month.
Which one in your size seamed "longer" (room in front of toes)? The Speed 4 is slightly too narrow for me in the forefoot/toe box but the length was great. I want to order the TYR but I have heard they run a tad short. Thoughts?
The Speedworks is just slightly shorter than the Speed 4, but has that wider toe box. They both fit me well and I didn’t notice the difference until you asked the question.
Hey, great video. On sizing US 13 in the TRY is 29.7 cm and the SPEED is 31 cm. should i size up in the TYR to a 14 - 30,6cm , or maybe even a 15 - 31.4 cm this is confusinig .....
This was very informative. A lot of the difference in ride may be due to how they did the rocker. I've been considering both of these later in the year but now I have to consider the Mizuno Neo Vista as well. Golden age of running shoes 😁.
@@its_Matt_B_Thanks. I'm imagining the foam feels a little like the old Fuel Cell? I saw one review that was glowing and I'll keep my eye out for yours.
I keep meaning to do more, but I’ve had a lot of individual shoes come in over the last few months and with my limited time to make videos I have to prioritize the individual reviews. I’m seeing a slow down so I’ll try to get more shoe(t) outs out over the summer!
I suppose it comes down to what they compare it to. It's not an anatomical toe box if put up against an Altra or Topo, but it's more anatomical than most other shoes.
Great review Matt! now a comparison is requested between the Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 vs. TYR Valkyrie elite Carbon .. 🙂

How does TYR Speedworks compare to the Puma Deviate Nitro 2?
I think it compares better to the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 better, but the plate in the Speedworks is slightly stiffer and the Puma is much more narrow.

I just returned my speed 4's. Way too narrow. Very disappointed they don't have a wide version...
The TYR Valkyrie Speedworks definitely has a wider toe box than the Speed 4. They may be worth a look!
I feel like the TYR Speedworks just has a better fitting upper and a better lockdown and is more stable.. So the TYR for me takes the crown
My video would have been a lot shorter if I was this succinct! 🤣
Do recommend the TYR for a marathon?
Im looking for something light and cushioning
Yes, they are definitely cushioned and responsive enough for a marathon.

This is very confusing. I think sizing up to the 30,6 would be a safe bet, but I would be sure I could exchange them just in case they don't fit.

Yeah, you’re right about the rocker. The Neo Vista feels totally different from either of these. You probably need the Neo Vista AND one of these! 🤣

Oddly I use my speed 4 on gravel/ light trails more than road. Midsole just works better for me on that type of ground I guess…or I’m just a weirdo
