It’s why one of our competencies in my program is to make sure you know when you aren’t able to function due to sleep deprivation. Patient safety should always be put first. It’s one of the reasons I don’t understand why 24 hour shifts are still allowed.
The transition from being on vacation with your partner, to going back to work and not seeing them for the majority of the day is rough. I totally sympathize with that one!
I’ve been a follower for a bit. I love your content. I work on an ambulance as an EMT-B, I had my first labor and delivery call, updated that mom was pushing as we got there. I was so blessed to be able to assist mom, unfortunately it was a full term stillborn. There was no complications per hospital records, and it was very heartbreaking for me as her provider at the moment but also personally. I’ve watched many adults and elders pass. And in these moments of me having to be present for my patient and hold it together, when I finished the call and was writing my report, I thought of you. I thought of all the blessings you’ve brought in the world, human and angel and realized that extra toll this job could bring, and the stress of not just one patient, but two and sometimes more. Even being a mom of three, I hadn’t appreciated my L&D team, as much as I do now, experiencing just a taste of what you do. So thank you, from a mom, a first responder and as a woman. ❤️
Hi beautiful Rachel!! I’m Kathy from Melbourne, Australia. I’ve been watching your med journey since 2019, hoping to go down a similar path myself! I’ve watched your videos all throughout Undergrad and Honours to motivate myself and keep my eyes on the future I envision for myself. I got accepted into my top preference medical school this week and couldn’t be more excited! Thank you for who you are and for the love and positivity you put out into the world ❤️ Wishing you well!!
I’ve been following you since you were in MS1 or MS2 and it’s been amazing watching you grow. You’ve helped me so much as a premed undergrad. I missed a few chapters, but congrats on your engagement! You are incredible and will do great things.
I’m 34 weeks pregnant and 4cm dilated I went into preterm labor last week and was admitted to the hospital for magnesium and stayed for a day. Now I keep having contractions and feeling crazy about going in to the hospital to be checked. We live about 40 min away and I have 38 cm of fluid. 6th pregnancy with a preterm birth and I’m terrified to have my water break at home and loose the baby or not make it to the hospital
I can’t believe it! You have the same breathing issues I have. Mine was diagnosed as Allergy induced asthma, started about 3 yrs ago after a bad cough that lasted for mths. Anyway I’m so happy for you and Patrick, seeing you get thru med school and now seeing you so happy. Take good care of each other, god bless you both.
Do you feel like this was all worth it? All the work you put in and the time you spent... I’m a first year and this med school thing is drowning me. Do you think this job is actually worth all the stress?
I'm a first year medical student who had to repeat and had my final exams this week and the osces tomorrow. I ask myself this constantly. The system in Australia is very different to the states. We only have mid year and end of year exams and have 12 osces stations at the end of the year. If you fail exams, there's no resit so you basically have to repeat the year unless you can get your mark up so much at the end of the year that it's enough to totally pull you over the line. Anyway, after yesterday's exam and how random the questions where. I left thinking "if I fail again. I'm not going to be sad. I'm probably going to be relieved because I'm not sure it's worth it.", I'm also older. Actually it's my birthday today. Which I've spent studying. I spent my birthday last year, crying at my desk because I knew I failed the exam, so I knew I would be repeating but still had to do the osces and the other written exam. I know what's on the other side of not doing Medicine. A desk job where I earned good money and had very little stress. I wasn't fulfilled. But am I anymore fulfilled right now? No. My self esteem and confidence has been ripped away from me. Neither one of us will really know if it's worth it until we are on the other side. I do know that it's been awful to have to spend two birthdays in a row not seeing my friends. I also hate how you can try so hard and get into the exam and get questions that do not reflect your effort.
@ happy belated birthday 🎉 I hope you can celebrate properly soon enough. I totally get you though. It sucks when you put in the time and effort and still can’t reap the benefits. I just wrapped up my mid semesters and my results just aren’t as good as I want them to be. And it’s worth 30% of my final grade. I know I won’t be fulfilled in any other profession but med is driving me insane. I’ll just have to keep it pushing and continue trusting in God🫡 I’m hoping and praying you’ll be successful this time though. I believe in you!
@@gdaymates431I just wanted to tell you that every struggle is an opportunity to grow, it may seem stressing ryt now that you might be burnt out and feel like your efforts are useless but remember that small setbacks should not define your entire journey. Hi Rachel! Love watching your vlogs every week :) would be amazing if you spoke more about the cases you see at work (as someone very interested in obgyn) but also completely understandable if you want to switch off when you get home! lots of love ❤
I start my obgyn rotation this week with night shift!! i want to do obgyn so i'm interested to see if that's still what i want to do after this rotation ☺
Happy Birthday Rachel when the day comes ! I think that when coming back from vacation you still need a mini vacation to get over your vacation lol Keep pushing through those mad hours and continue to be the amazing Doctor that you are. XO
Hello, I love your videos! Especially because I am going for my L&D nursing RN right now. What degree did you have to have for obgyn? What did you do, like CNA at an ob office or what. Any tips and tricks you can offer i would love to hear! Thank you for being so great and genuine 💕
Not to minimize you but as a correctional charge nurse short staffed I worked 16 hours a shift 9 shifts biweekly for over two years. That means 80 hours one week 64 the next for two years and I’m twice your age.
That sounds really rough! You can’t minimize/invalidate my feelings, don’t worry. We have two different roles. So my hours worked look much different than yours 👍 despite us both having numerically very many.
It’s so beautiful watching you and Patrick be together. Finding “your person” makes life so much more fun.
Thank you so much. I appreciate you saying that 🤍
Snaps for Patrick and how he refills your cup. What a blessing you both are. ❤
81 hours in a single week should be illegal. That being said, Happy Birthday! Hope Patrick was able to spoil you a bit extra for that day!
