That cylinder head sets on plastic that seems less than professional but I know nothing worth a dime about power heads. Thank you for sharing Iron Horse 🐎!
Kinda surprising when you open some of these patients up. I was shocked by some of the things I'd seen. Seems crazy to bolt a cylinder onto plastic. But the whole crankcase is plastic so where does that leave you? Where does the plastic end and the metal begin? May as well be at that point, I guess. Do they make all-metal crankcases? You got me on that one.
That is why I never start a saw until after it has a chance for my 1184 to dry, throughly. I put the saw in a warm place to dry. I degrease everything and put a thin coat on case, gasket and cylinder flange. I snug up the bolts, move the cylinder to BC and finish tightening. I also retorqued after an hour or so. My base gaskets do not leak. I check at idle with break cleaner. If it is leaking the saw will shut down, immediately.
Good job on tracing down the problems.I find these little problems here in my little shop a lots.Glad you able to show what you are finding.I feel this helps the novice a lot that works on there own saws from time to time.Good job and I saw the 2nd part of this also.
Good to see that even an expert makes a mistake every once in a while. As a 70 year old novice, I would gladly like to know the chainsaw aspects you have forgotten then I would probably be high in chainsaw knowledge.
First time here. Your channel was recommended. I enjoyed your diagnostic & follow through. Nice the way you mentioned a couple of other channels in the beginning of this video. I have a small channel & try to support as many other channels as time allows. Your phone is doing a good job with this video. Lost you at the end. Looking forward to the finish. Big 👍 . Stay safe, Joe Z
My question, a project I have sitting I've personally not got to yet. Is will a 61/257 34mm stroke crank work in a 51 or 55 set of cases that has a 32mm stroke crank while using a 55 46mm closed port cylinder with a OEM 46mm piston cut however much is needed off the top in a lathe with a popup. This is a build I would be curious on. 😎 might have to send you a interesting project to tinker with just because🤫😎 love the vids harv keep it up.
Iron horse I think you should put them adverts in the middle for your sake as well as everyone who loves to watch and learn from you, after all we all got to pay our way one way or another and letting a darn advert pass us by once or twice a vid won’t cost too much of our time and is a cheap price to pay for all the things we learn from your channel! After all iv learnt enough from you to experiment with my own saws that have saved me a small fortune!👍👍👍
Yeah Harv love it man, chasin and diagnosing issues on saws is pretty fun kinda changes the mindset from other things. I try to watch the commercials but sometimes I have to just let it run and leave the room. 🌲❤🌲✊
I have a question for you. I built a ms 460 kit and I never could get it to crank, reliably. My friend, a Husqvarna tech, could drop start it and get it running in two pulls or less and it ran good. I finally got around to checking the squish and it was .090. I had to double up the solder to even get a reading. I got a new cylinder and piston for it and put it in. The squish was .038 with a HyWay gasket. I can pull it over but it likes to pop and spit a little smoke. This is my fifth kit saw and all are running fine nut this one has my stumped.
For 11.99 a month you can eliminate commercials on you tube. I did this a few months ago and I think its worth it. Just an FYI in case some of you may not be aware of it.
Most of the time those copied type of spark plugs are built in China and sometimes the plug will come with a name on it or it will come with just markings and the number but the name is SAP and they're decent plugs for a low-budget chainsaw but no count at all for a Stihl chainsaw or Husqvarna, I've already tried in both LOL
Too many people cheap out and buy the Amazon Chinese tune-up kits with bad plugs and fuel filters. Most times the giveaway is the spanking new air filter when they drop it off saying it won’t start. Stick with name brand parts!
Can you hot rod a Stihl ms250 chainsaw that has everything stock on it and if so what's the maximum power vs price that you can get out of one of those and what is the preferred bar and chain size on a top ms250 that has been hot rodded
REALLY GOOD VIDEO, A LOT OF DIFFERANT THINGS TO LOOK AT TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG. COMMERCIALS DON'T MATTER, BUT I LIKE THE GREENHOUE VIDEOS OLD PEOPLE HAVE TO EAT
I had a say it was very eratic then finally would not start, when i looked at it i found the head bolts were not tightened down, not rattling loose but was drawing air, my lucky day finding it, my fault really for being a cheapskate with a chinese saw lol
Hey Harvey love watching ya brother gonna meet u some day haha got a 266 and a white top 61 for u to look at all good numbers around your house brother
Hey Harv I have a idea for a video that I think would be great for the viewers. What if we setup a go fund me account or something similar for a saw that we could watch you build. And you could send it to Buckin. If your interested I have a 74cc Dayton with the reed valves that I would donate and cash. I would really love to see this.
Do not buy or run a Bosch plug that does not have blue stripes and number on them. I run Bosch WSR6F plugs in my saws and I buy them in a four pack from my local Husqvarna/Western Auto dealer. The Bosch plugs on EBay are Chinese clones.
Im a youtuber so i know you dont make hardly shxxx without commericals so cuz i like what your sharing i just let the adds run till they are done if the rest of the community did the same they make more which means more builds outside the box
So you tube tell you views then. Or because of add thing. I like when they don't have adds. Have roll eye sometimes with adds. Get threw it and back too business.

You are 1 of the few worth the commercial.
Commercials don’t bother me a bit so do what you need to to make it worth your Time & Efforts.👍
Been working on my grandfathers 72 Poulan that he threw away. I am rebuilding it and you have been a great help.

Seeing spark at the plug is not verification that the timing of the spark is correct.
Thanks for the info and relaxed approach. I like it.
You don’t need to buy the bearings from husky... just buy the sealed bearings and pull the seal from one side. My grandpa showed me that.
If I had a nickle for every time I've put a seal in crooked!!
I was guessing that the diaphram wasint clipped in!!!
Great video
A Senior moment -I meant piston instead of cylinder that I move to BDC. this helps to align the piston in the cylinder.

That is a real nice looking saw. I think I'll keep an eye out for one
Most of my Big Stihl saws run a one turn out on both jets.

yes, he should do that!...more money should be welcome for you...we can skip the add if we want!
I always get extra seals for my saws.

good to see real action, sort out the issues, and get the horse back to work in the woods!
Always good info or good Detective work

When I grow up, I want to be a chainsaw mechanic!
Hello mate. What was the result with Josh's 61. Video died before the start up.
Thanks for sharing that and commercials not a big deal.

I'm able to make those gaskets it's out of a paper like gasket material though I don't know if it would work
I usually make the gaskets and then put grease on them before I put them on
