Song was everywhere. A band covered this at Smuggler's Notch ski lodge in Vermont. Remembered dancing to this with this girl I met that had come up to ski with us, I ended up leaving the club and walking around hammered trying to find where I was staying. All the condo's looked the same, don't know how I got back. 80's were such a great time to grow up!

I was 13 when Amore came out. MMR and YSP wore that record out. Such a cool thing to watching them make the jump from regional act to nationally recognized.

I hope it pleases you to hear, that in my native Sweden, the Hooters were, and remain, COLOSSAL. They are immensely, dare I say universally beloved. They famously played at the heavy metal orientated Sweden Rock Festival (30 000-40 000 people strong every year) a few years ago, initially feeling trepidation whether the promotos really hadn't made a mistake by booking the band. But they were happily surprised, bordering on shocked, to find tens of thousands of metalheads roaring and cheering and singing along to every word of every song from beginning to end. We LOVE our Hooters here in Sweden. Toto is another one of those bands that after a while seemed to dwindle home in the US, but are so big in Sweden that they put Journey and Van Halen to shame. And I mean that literally.
I have incredible memories from the 80s and of this band and of the filming of this video. I was there with them for 24 hours. I was in this video as are my friends and my sister. I’m the chick who winked. I was 18 at the time. I’m 57 now. Such a fantastic experience.

If so, you look very different now. I LOVE this song! One of my most favorite 80's tunes. Oh, this song......such a memory. My husband was a musician with a rock band....my friend Rena's boyfriend was a member of that band. Rena & I went with the band everytime they played. Rena & I would dance almost the entire night together. One night we danced so much & so hard that we were soaking wet with sweat. The next night, Rena was murdered by a heroin addict who broke into her apartment while she was there. About a month later, this song came out. Whenever i hear it, I always have a good cry, then remember the awesome memory of dancing with her, and I dedicate it to her. Love you, Rena.
This video is special to me. One of my best friends(brother really) was in this,he was the dark haired kid in the jean jacket who helped put the guys in the trunk. I lost John a few years ago. It's mostly used in Dub Reggae, but in the 80s it was also used in lots of Pop/Rock and even Synthpop (New Order and Depeche Mode used it in a few songs each). In the intro, break, and outro it is played alongside a mandolin. The Hooters were great. They were one of many Heartland Rock acts (Springsteen, Petty, Seger, Hornsby, etc) on the radio during the 80s singing about nostalgia for decades gone by and teenage love. Fun fact, two years earlier, they were also the backing band on Cyndi Lauper's HUMONGOUS hit LP She's So Unusual, which featured the hits "Time After Time", "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", "Money Changes Everything", and "She-Bop" (plus her amazing cover of Prince's "When U Were Mine"). They didn't have a ton of huge hits, but their follow-up single to "And We Danced" (1985/US#21) was "Day by Day" (1986/US#18) and charted even higher, becoming their only US Top20 hit.
The 1980s were so optimistic. America may never be as optimistic and looking forward to the future as it was in the 80s and this song/video is an example of that optimism.
The Hooters were an amazing, fun, down to earth band. I remember my under age self seeing them at clubs around Philly. The Exton Drive-in was a few minutes from my college, now West Chester University, where I worked on the Program Board booking and supporting concerts, guest speakers, lecture series. We’d done a particularly good job on a concert event, the local promoter gifted our team a beach party starring The Hooters. They were huge in the area club scene. Great memories.

The Hooters were really big here in Germany in the 1980ies and they're still being played by my favourite radio station from time to time. About 8 years ago they came to play live in Ravensburg, a fantastic concert.

If anybody from a music company watches reaction videos, you should be listening to comments like this. That's why there are far more sales of historic music than up-to-date tracks. People want to listen to decent music in which the band really can play their instruments, don't have to be autotuned and don't build tracks pieced together from a hundred takes. That takes talent, musicianship, song writing skills and stagecraft. The Hooters have all that.

It's where famously Queen is said to have the greatest live performance of all time. Anyway ... The Hooters got exposure and became pretty big right after because of it with 2 big hits. Love these guys. Lived in Delaware as a kid in Newark where the university of DE is located. These guys played several weekends each month in the early 80's. Rob Hyman wrote Time after Time that became a Cyndi Lauper hit.
Very lucky! I only saw them live 2 times. I met them at Live Aid in Philly before the album broke. I later saw them on their "Nervous Night" tour. We wanted them to play our university Spring Fling in '86. It was a toss up between them and The Outfield. Crowded House was also wanted, but The Outfield being foreign bands, were too expensive. Hooters weren't available. The Hooters were blasting from dorm rooms and Apts around campus. I have them permanently on my playlists because "Nervous Night" is flawless.
The one feller is playing a mandolin, the other is a melodica, also known as a Harmon-e-pet. Sometimes you see them with a flexible blow-pipe so you can lay the keyboard flat and play with both hands. Thanks for doing this. You really did take me back. It was and is as you say, a 'banger'. Hey Jay, that instrument is called a Meladaka, but it has other names as well. Love the Hooters! Need to play "Day By Day" or "All You Zombies" from them. I'm so glad I graduated high school in 1981. Yes, the music in the 80's was amazing. I grew up in a small community in Eastern Missouri and within 20 miles of town we had numerous dance halls where you found yourself every Friday and Saturday night listening and dancing to 70's and 80's music played by local cover bands. It was soooooooooo much fun. It was like living the movie Footloose.
This is one of those songs that still holds up 40ish years later. It rocks just as hard now but also gives that nostalgic vibe. It’s one that I never skip over when it comes up. My other favorite by them is “Day By Day”, would love to see a reaction to that one.
Jay, you always speak about the fact that people/teens were dancing in the 80’s and yes we were. Many of our parents were teens in the 50’s and that’s what they did as well. The 50’s had a great influence on the 80’s as far as dress (Levi’s, penny loafer shoes, collars up) just look at John Cougar. In my state the drinking age has always been 21, so there were “under 21” clubs that we could go to and dance the night away.

The Hooters were an amazing, fun, down to earth band. I remember my under age self seeing them at clubs around Philly. The Exton Drive-in was a few minutes from my college, now West Chester University, where I worked on the Program Board booking and supporting concerts, guest speakers, lecture series. We’d done a particularly good job on a concert event, the local promoter gifted our team a beach party starring The Hooters. They were huge in the area club scene. Great memories.

CONGRATS Jay & Amber! You've stumbled onto the curly fry surprise in the box of tater tots known as the '80's...the Hooters! This is a BANGER that I have loved since I first heard it waaay back in the day! The instrument is a Hohner Melodica, known as a "Hooter" from which the band got their name.

As a high school grad in 1985 I can tell you, without a doubt, It was an amazing time to be alive as a teenager. The feeling you get when hearing these kinds of songs. It was exactly that! Its so hard to put into words but the music nails it perfectly. We knew it even back then. It was a very special time.

One of my favorite songs! In my mind I always pair it up with "Come Dancing" by the Kinks. They both sing about dancing, evoke nostalgia, and feature some unconventional rock music. And they're both such a joy to listen and bop to!

I loved The Hooters in the 80's. Finally going to get a chance to see them live on a fun 80's tour with Rick Springfield and Tommy Tutone. There are even more great songs from them to react to.

The Hooters are an amazing band with a unique sound. Their hit album “Nervous Night” spawned several singles, including “And We Danced”, that featured on the Top 40 charts as well as had several videos that were in heavy rotation during MTV’s heyday. Several Hooters fun facts: came out of the rich Philly music scene, are still together to this day, are HUGE in Japan and their lead keyboardist and one of the founding members, Rob Hyman, wrote the song “Time After Time”, which Cyndi Lauper took and turned into a Number One hit single. Love The Hooters!

I'm showing my age here, but I saw The Hooters open for U2 at The Tower Theater, which is a small venue. The next year U2 were playing arenas.

The Hooters were really big here in Germany in the 1980ies and they're still being played by my favourite radio station from time to time.
About 8 years ago they came to play live in Ravensburg, a fantastic concert.

If anybody from a music company watches reaction videos, you should be listening to comments like this. That's why there are far more sales of historic music than up-to-date tracks. People want to listen to decent music in which the band really can play their instruments, don't have to be autotuned and don't build tracks pieced together from a hundred takes. That takes talent, musicianship, song writing skills and stagecraft. The Hooters have all that.

This song was everywhere when I was young!! The Hooters were a local Philly-area band so every station played any song they released.
I was in Germany at the time (Army), and both the Army stations and the German stations were playing Hooters music like crazy. So they went beyond Philly.
Their song "Satellite" is another good one. It has this whole Celtic/80's synth thing going on, that you can't help but dance to.
Catchy as hell and the bonus is it's a hilarious satire on televangelists with a fun controversial video to match...it was their 1 hit in the UK, did it on Top of the Pops...

Btw that instrument is a Mandolin. Diamond Rio who you reacted to yesterday is well known to have it featured in most of their songs. Soooo I remember like it was yesterday. They were an unknown band who SOMEHOW got on the lineup at the Biggest LIVE Concert event in history in the Summer of 85 ... LIVE AID. It's where famously Queen is said to have the greatest live performance of all time. Anyway ... The Hooters got exposure and became pretty big right after because of it with 2 big hits. This being one of them.

Love these guys. Lived in Delaware as a kid in Newark where the university of DE is located. These guys played several weekends each month in the early 80's. Rob Hyman wrote Time after Time that became a Cyndi Lauper hit.
Very lucky! I only saw them live 2 times. I met them at Live Aid in Philly before the album broke. I later saw them on their "Nervous Night" tour. We wanted them to play our university Spring Fling in '86. It was a toss up between them and The Outfield. Crowded House was also wanted, but The Outfield being foreign bands, were too expensive. Hooters weren't available. The Hooters were blasting from dorm rooms and Apts around campus. I have them permanently on my playlists because "Nervous Night" is flawless.

The one feller is playing a mandolin, the other is a melodica, also known as a Harmon-e-pet. Sometimes you see them with a flexible blow-pipe so you can lay the keyboard flat and play with both hands. Thanks for doing this. You really did take me back. It was and is as you say, a 'banger'. I'm 55. I still had acne last time I heard it, I'm sure. And as other commenters have said, All You Zombies is a good one too.

I'm so glad I graduated high school in 1981. Yes, the music in the 80's was amazing. I grew up in a small community in Eastern Missouri and within 20 miles of town we had numerous dance halls where you found yourself every Friday and Saturday night listening and dancing to 70's and 80's music played by local cover bands. It was soooooooooo much fun. It was like living the movie Footloose.

Jay, you always speak about the fact that people/teens were dancing in the 80’s and yes we were. Many of our parents were teens in the 50’s and that’s what they did as well. The 50’s had a great influence on the 80’s as far as dress (Levi’s, penny loafer shoes, collars up) just look at John Cougar. In my state the drinking age has always been 21, so there were “under 21” clubs that we could go to and dance the night away.

Love this one - simple, innocent song about young romance. "The room is spinning as she whispers my name", it doesn't get any better than that. "Don't Take My Car Out Tonight" is their best song IMO.
