Here's What Mountune are Doing to My Focus RS! | PROJECT PART 8

- Let's find out what's happening at Mountune with my Ford Focus RS! The overhaul works to the project car's engine are underway so we can head into the workshop to get an update, while also taking a test drive in the Mountune development car with a setup like mine is going to have when completed... this is going to be an epic thing!
The Red Edition Focus RS has now been at Mountune for a few weeks and has been totally stripped down at the front end so that all the internals of the engine can be rebuilt and strengthened. Seeing the block in place but without the cylinder head and other components gives a great perspective as to the level of work that Mountune are doing. Sitting side by side we also have the old and new conrods and pistons so you can see the differences. To take the power to the kind of levels that they are doing, in the region of 500hp, it's vital to start from a very strong base and that's exactly where this is all beginning.
After exploring my RS, it's time to jump into their RS for a little feeler as to what it's like without going into all the technicalities ahead of the full details being revealed in the not too distant future. It's now a few weeks until my car is completed, and you can be sure there will be more to come from Mountune on the channel very soon!
To head on afterwards, my Ford GT has also been delivered to Mountune in time for my arrival following a fix to the front rocker-assembly that had previously created a little rattle - no major problem and now correct.
A huge thanks to Mountune for their work so far, this is an incredibly exciting project and I cannot wait to get it into action during this spring and summer.

The work is in progress! Let's take a look at what Mountune are doing to my Ford Focus RS to reinforce the engine ahead of the extra power that's coming. Not only that, but I also took their development car out for a little spin for an early taster of what it offers and what mine will be like!

Love it! But I still think you should do some red paint or wrap on the carbon hood. It's a bit too much, if you ask me, in full carbon. Needs to be toned down a bit. Leave the vents in carbon, and a wide racing stripe down the middle in carbon, then paint/wrap the rest in color matched red with maybe a dark gray pinstripe between the red and carbon bits?

They'd better put their 11.000 rpm 3 Cyl prototype inside a Fiesta ST !
Cosworth already did the head and helped out on the turbocharger
The Focus RS is already awesome, but can’t wait to see this one finished. Should be incredible to drift and will be a rocket for the street.
What's funny is that each cylinder in your engine makes more power than all four cylinders combined in my chevy spark lol😂

Doesn't the crackles and bangs get a bit annoying, while cruising around urban areas? On your red car, will you have the option of a quieter/louder (open/closed) exhaust?
If you disable Sport mode, that stops happening to anything like the same extent
Great video, but for the love of God.. Make sure you paint the Bonnet of your RS
I'm certainly considering options and maybe even doing a Topaz Skin to just make the side bits of it red - should be possible to do that in the not too distant future.
@Shmee150 I think you should leave the vents in carbon, along with a wide racing stripe down the center hump in carbon, and paint/wrap/skin the rest in race red. The photos of other RS's with their carbon hoods painted, except for the vents, look pretty nice.

Why I love Schmee over Salomondrim: he actually knows cars and truly loves cars. He can identify parts and how the components work. Great video
He most likely gets information of camera from the guys there, being able to name a parts doesn't mean he actually "knows" car. I do get what you are saying though, Tim seems to be at least able to tell the difference between a supercharger and a turbo

it's more of a hyperhatch like the RS3, compared to the classic hot hatches
tommihommi1 not exactly the Focus RS is also fast but manual only while the hyperhatch are like super fast
But I like the RS3 tho more than the A45 AMG
tommihommi1 you might say super hatch at this level. I’d still say hot.
It's a hyper hatch. If it isn't then neither is an a45 amg as this is quicker than 1 round a track. Hot hatchs are focus and fiesta st
@@Magezzz Common nomenclature uses the term super before hyper. Call it a super hatch maybe. I drive a 400hp tuned Golf R. It's a hot hatch. It doesn't deserve super or hyper in the name.

You should get their Quaif Sequential Box.
Muhammad Ali Khan nah. Wouldn’t be worth it. £6000 plus. The maintenance needed for it would be a lot. Plus I don’t think it’s wise to drive on it except from track use. That’s just me though

I understand the mods are neccessary for the 500hp but that's a lot of money to spend for an increase of 150hp over standard.
You should look into Darton Sleeves if wanting to push it to 500+hp and is a good idea since the rods are out of it.
I believe a lot of people is still waiting for you to turn your focus rs bonnet red instead of expose carbon fiber since it does not fit the red really well. Perhaps you can do it with topaz skin.
Exposed carbon is always better.
@@xenonram not if it does not fit the paint job of the car. That is just too much carbon and it does not match with the A pillar of the car painted in red.

Love seeing this. I obviously have a hyundia sonata 2.0l turbo. That I have alittle over 400whp on stock motor internals. It's making 30psi with a stuffed turbo, open dump external wastegate mod, 625ml shot of vp m1 methanol, fully bolt ons, large fmic 2.5" piping with synapse bov, 3inch turbo back exhaust. Serously surprised what a sonata is capable of making, and how quick it really is and cars its has beat including a audi rs7 sportback coupe. Anyway thanks for posting these types of videos and cheers from just south west of toronto Canada
Wish I could.post some pics of my build on it. I bought it little over a year ago. And have built the hole car from bbk, suspension, aero, performance and some interior. All work and fabrication I have done 100percent myself. Hopefully next time I will no your in toronto and will come show the car and let you try it.

Would love the bigger turbo on my RS. Even my simple Accessport, Intake, exhaust and BoV turns it into an animal. Can just imagine what that will be like!!
Love the project RS. The hyper cars are ace, but ford does what it does best, Bringing power to the people. 5 seats & a boot yes please.

Thats way to many pops and bangs for my taste. I think a car should only be that loud above 5k rpm. That would get so old so fast. Everything else is cool though have fun Tim!
Wow... I didn't realise the 2.3 was so fragile that it needed an engine rebuild to handle an extra 50 HP.
I've been thinking over and over about getting an RS Focus, however informative video's like this have helped me decide the RS Focus, is not something that I should consider..
Shmee... I know you didn't go about trying to stop people buying the RS Focus, but because of your honesty, you have helped me realise how fragile the 2.3 Ecoboost is. Such a shame because I think it's a fantastic car. You have real good consumer advice here.
I know you can afford the rebuilds etc. , but if I had an RS... it would have to be as reliable as a normal everyday driver.
Will you run the RS on both E85 and 98ron gas?

Can you explain about that dashboard noise in your GT
I talked about it in the video driving the car to Topaz, but basically it was to do with the "rocker assembly" and seems to be quite a common GT issue, but easily resolved as per with my car.

As impressive as a GTR is, the Focus is so much more fun and is a lot more practical
I'm surprised the stock conrods are not forged also, only not as beefy and without machining operations to eliminate stress points developing of the mod ones.
I don't know how much the 2.3 L engine can handle but do you think about swapping the engine to the 2.5 L 5 cylinder from the Mk2 RS? Correct me if I'm wrong but for my knowledge the 5 cylinder motor can handle 500hp easily

You should get the OZ Leggera's for your Red Edition. 1.5 kg's lighter than the BBS. Better looking too imo.

Yes, genuinely could be interesting! Don't forget that the Heritage has the FPM375 package so it's already more than stock, but that would be really interesting to see

The one problem I see with the focus motors is the open deck I mean the siamese bores help but without a block guard it cant go much more over 500 without block upgrades

Are the iron cylinder sleeves standard or is that a Mountune modification?
Looks great nice very cool. But yes as you said putting that much HP, the gear box, clutch, drive shafts etc etc just are not designed to have that much HP put through them! Hence the life of the components will be massively shortened! To the point the power might start mangling drive shafts, clutch's, gear boxes etc have seen it many times! As is standard everything needs beefing up cant just stick a bigger engine in a car without upgrading everything else! As long as he does all that car will be superb if he doesn't might just be a regulary broken bag bits and shards of metal.
We've got plans don't fear, this is just the start!

For 400bhp , a 10 percent increase will not really require new pistons ,Rods, Turbos .. You can do it with a chip upgrade . It is not really overstressing the engine as Audi get 400 out of 2.5 liters in a standard road car .( RS3) 500bhp really what you need the goodies for though !! Enjoy !! It will be a bit peaky for road use tho !!
