First Drive in My 500hp Mountune Focus RS! | PROJECT PART 9

- Mountune have worked their magic on my project Ford Focus RS with a complete overhaul of the engine bringing power to the 500hp mark! The internals have been upgraded, along with a new intercooler, intake, sports downpipe, Mtune and more to transform it into quite a beast.
Having dropped the Focus RS off with Mountune around 2 months ago, work has been pushing on to strip the engine down and build it up with stronger components in order to run more power than the standard 350hp. Along the way many parts have been replaced from the conrods, pistons and manifold to a much stronger turbo to help produce the additional power; and with that of course the second stage intake to feed in much more air. Equally a new intercooler is fitted in the lower section of the front grille with a Race Red Mountune logo to match the car - the only hint from the outside of what lies within.
Setting off initially from London in the brand new arrival of the Ferrari GTC4Lusso, we head towards Mountune with Shmarc150 at the wheel and my first time shotgun. Then though it's time for an introduction to the work that's been done as well as a run through of what you can do with Mountune's Mtune module before taking it out for a first drive to experience the transformation!

Mountune have completed the work on the engine of my project Focus RS and that means heading to the workshop to check it out and go for a first drive! The internals have been totally redone from the conrods, pistons and manifold to a new intercooler, intake, a sports downpipe and the Mtune controller. This can only mean the EcoBeast is coming alive!

The Focus RS is great, but I'm actually in love with the blue Fiesta ST that was next to your car in the workshop. I also have a Fiesta, and seeing one in a place like this melts my heart.
Tim have you considered a topaz skin for the bonnet? Being able to match the exact paint code sounds awesome and would love to see some content on it in classic Shmee style
Yes! We're thinking of doing this to mask off some of the side parts while still leaving some of the exposed carbon

Now that the RS500 has been shelved, it makes perfect sense to make this a supercar slayer, especially when you have a Heritage in the garage too. However, that bonnet mod colour still grates immensely, it's a weight saving that shouts 'I've been modified too'. IMO bringing it back to red would improve the overall stealth appeal of this bruiser. Great tweaks so far Tim.

Definitely go with more engine upgrades as well as the transmission upgrade that you suggested. Those, as well as all of the others, and you should have an amazing Focus RS.

What an incredible day. Starting you Ford GT sending it off for a service. Then getting into a Ferarri GTC4 Luso to go and drive a 500 horsepower ford Focus just nuts what a day to casually have (Of course a lot work goes in too)

We got one too :) Our company's GBP Performance Ford Focus RS 2017 got an entire Cobb Stage 2 + Power package ( Full Cobb Carbon intake , Cobb intercooler upgrade with piping , 3'' Catted Cobb Downpipe, 3'' Cobb Cat-Back exhaust with 4.5 inches tips , Mishimoto oil cooler , Cobb Accessport V3 ( With custom tune made by ourselves since we are Cobb Pro-Tuners ). To that we added a Stage 2 CP-e rear motor mount and H&R sport springs and a Seibon Carbon Hood. So far on the Dyno we produce at the wheels 376.5 WHP and 437 WTQ . In BHP were talking about 430bhp at the crank. We didn't touch the internal and not changed the Turbo. Even without modification Focus RS is cool and powerful with modification now is even better.

In my humble opinion, a sequential gearbox would make the RS kind of a chore to drive as a daily. Unless you're building her up to become a full on race-car, i'd stay away from sequential and perhaps do a race clutch and brake setup. For a car that light you definitely need stopping power. All-in-all outstanding work by Mountune. Congrats Tim.
Keep in mind, he still has another RS. Might as well go all out on the nuttiness of the build.

It's a COBB accessport hooked up to the car I supposed supplied to mountune. I had one on my STi.
That motor can now take quite a bit more power, I would guess. 600 sounds better than 500 🤔.
Stock internals Golf Rs can take that power.
It sounds really good though considering it is a 4 cylinder!

I had hoped you were going to floor it at least a few times and film it. Maybe compare the Racelogic times with the times the car had before the tune. Compare it with some other 500bhp car. Anything really except just talking.

14:27 Thats not the wastegate but the blowoff tim.
Blowoff is on the intake side releasing overpressure when lifting the throttle, the wastegate is on the exhaust side opening up to regulate the boost/ to prevent it from rising to far.
When the Mach 1 photo bombs and upstages the Focus...
This project is a nice addition to all the supercar coverage. Who doesn't love a proper hothatch!

Look at all the cars Shmee owns and he gets exclusive access to all the exotic cars and events more or less before anyone else. What youtuber owns a fleet of cars like Shmee does? Not many at all. Chris Harris works for Topgear Shmee does all his content through TH-cam so you can compare in a sense. But im on about purely youtube!
One thing I would recommend Shmee...is you get rid of that hood prop and toss in a $100 set of hydraulic hood struts. I think the ones I use are Redline Performance.
No hood prop, just open the hood. Easier to work on too!
When is the Quaife QBE46Z sequential gearbox getting fitted I wonder and RacingBrake do a carbon ceramic brake kit
Tim, the Mountune sequential gearbox is a dream upgrade to me and something I can hopefully pull off in a few years on my own RS. It would be really neat to see you put one in yours and give us some feedback on it. Your RS is quickly becoming the coolest one out there and having a sequential in there would be really special.
I know this is much later, but how's your RS held up?? Ive been eyeing up a couple blue ones and I think I'm obsessed now

Red carbon hood,aggressive fitment gold bbs rs,ohlins coilovers,anti roll bar,strut bar,rigid collars, a lot more can be done and improved shmee!
So he’s added 120BHP with built internals? Also it’s not much of a project car if you give it too a shop too do everything

for an RS you need new piston, rod, crank, turbo, full exhaust, injector, pumps, race bearings, head work, possibly cams, and most definitely differentials (I think only the center diff can handle anything over 350 WHP, which is just 50 more than stock)
You should put some KW coilovers on and have them set up for the track, that would give it superior handling! I used to have a focus st, that I modified, so I know how fun these cars are!

Sequentials are absolutely terrible on the street. Don't do it. If you're making a ring tool, strip the rear seats, have that area neatly re-trimmed, half cage it, and get carbon bucket seats retrimmed in the same colour scheme. Drop whatever useless weight you can. Think a "clubsport" BMW. Remember speed is all about powertoweight ratios.

Definitely the sequential gearbox! So many other tunes cars have engine and suspension mods, but rarely do you see a sequential box on a street mod 👌

That's your blow off valve the woosh wheb u let off the gas pedal. The wastegate you will never hear unless u have a open dump external wastegate then its loud as f at wide open throttle.... such a sick car though for sure. I may end up building one at some point when my hyundia sonata build is finished.

The hood has too many vents. The two middle and the one for the intake are nice but the side vents are kind of nasty looking.

You can change map without having the handset plugged in. You can even do it while the car is running. Just press Cancel on the cruise control while cruise and limit are not active. Then press the set + - buttons. No need to have the handset plugged in if you don't want to change the other settings.
😂 The concept of a project car, is not just giving it to a big tuning company with a bag full of money 💰 then going back to collect it a month later, then using the term “i” when it comes to who tuned it 😂 it’s a Ford Focus, it’ will have more rust than carbon fibre in 5 years 👍🏻

@@simplesubie8248 but Ford recognized the error (Mustang head gasket incorrectly fitted to the RS) and fixed it. There have been no reported failures since. What's Subaru done? They still fit the very old EJ motor and somehow made it worse and unreliable along the years.
Its nots subaru's fault people blow ringlands headgaskets or rod bearings..its all from poor maintenance or cranking the boost way up..subarus don't fail out the factory.
Waiting to see this car come back.

Now that Rory Reid has left Top Gear and joined Carfection, it would be great to have him (or Henry Catchpole for that matter) review your RS, as he himself also loves the RS, a big fan of Ford and drives a Mustang too. Mods wise, i'm quite surprised to see that you chose not to install the alloy oil cooler to the car, especially now the power it's producing.

That tuning box is called an Accessport. It's made by COBB here in the United States. They make them for a lot of different makes and models. Including Porsche. Should check them out. Google COBB Accessport.

The sequential gearbox has to be the next mod! As it's going back to mountune for checkup after carfreitag it would be ideal to fit the gearbox would give the car such a menacing caracter!!! Love the focus rs enjoy!
