Finally someone who understands this toxic situation. Y’ all this can happen to anybody. I’m a really friendly& outgoing person that gets along well with others but I had to deal with those one sided friendships for months now, the truth is it’s not enough to simply get along well, it’s about how both sides value the relationship & each other ! The sad truth is that true friends are rare so invest in those few friendships instead of wasting your time on people that don’t value you ❤️
That happened to me once so I just stopped texting and talking to her but then she just starts being super clingy and all of a sudden wants to hang out and I was just super confused!!! But I just stopped being her friend because shes one of those girls that gets everything they want! So I decided not to let her get everything she wants!!!! Im so proud lol lol lol!
If you really only stopped being her friend because she gets everything she wants, that's kind of selfish of you and I'm sure she didn't really want you as a friend anyway. I know I wouldn't.
I tried the same with a friend of mine for 11 months now. We have a mutual friend and she told me that he always asks about me, but then he never texts me, saying he lost my number. First of all, he has her number so he could have just asked for it. Second, I only wrote to him twice: once because there was a little earthquake in the city he's in so I wanted to know if he was okay, and then on his birhday, so he must have my number since I texted to him. I don't really know what to do. I don't want this friendship to end, but on the other hand I kinda do.
OMG that happend to me BUT she didn't wanna hang anymore cuz I was talking to some other girls she is sooo annoying and I deleted all of her contact so I'm not going to talk with her any more and I hate her SOO much

When you respect yourself more, you don’t tolerate fake/lazy friends anymore. You start to have higher standards so I’m so glad that Im getting rid of these types of friends. It’s sad but it’s for the best. I’m gonna lose so many friends but I’m done😁
I hate one sided friendships. A friendship needs to be both ways. My rule in friendship is always when I come visit friends they should visit me as well. I’m sick and tired of people not making the same effort. Also when I make the effort to communicate and the friends don’t make the same effort it’s just not ok with me. Also when people take forever to text back a simple answer to a question it pisses me off. I am in that situation now. I’m questioning on whether to talk to this person anymore. No matter what they have going on they need to still communicate. I’m trying to find a way to get it through to this person’s head
Amen! And folks, don't buy into the whole "I was busy" or "I have social anxiety." Then why did you accept friendship in the first place? Unless you are some busy blockbuster hollywood actor, don't give us excuses. Such people only know how and when to receive but never ready to give. A good friend recently just told me I can go away if I want, when I confronted them. Even though I tried sorting things out and go back to how things were, they kept giving me one word responses rather than being an adult and communicate. It just feels as if each of these have a mentality of an edgy middle schooler.
I confronted my friend about it and it never got resolved. My advice is to confront the person respectfully and if it doesn't get resolved, you have to end it. You can't prolong a connection like that because it hurts your self-respect. By you ending it, you grow so much as a person. SERIOUSLY. You want power, stand up for yourself. I agree with @glenn4612: I do not buy I have "social anxiety." How can you be friends in the first place if you were plagued with social anxiety? My advice is to THINK OUT LOUD to your friend. And if it is met with hostility, end the friendship.

I feel like I have been in an one sided friendship for years now. I’ve NEVER been in a one sided “friendship” before until just recently. It totally bothers me. I even had to treat this guy just to go with us to dinner, initiated conversations just to be left seen, lent him my personal belongings, chose to give him a Christmas present along with my other friends. But what takes the cake is following this guy on instagram and not even getting a follow back. Terrible but I think I should just lay off and not put in any effort and accept that not everyone’s a keeper. Hate to loose a best friend. I completely agree with what she said. But it’s very very very hard to let them go. After a 5 year long Bestie relationship, starting today I’m distancing myself from that person. And it extremely hard. Because I loved them so much, then all of a sudden we ain’t communicating. I tried talk to the person about it, but just as she said “they brush it off, or don’t admit to it”... that in itself is painful to witness. I keep telling myself “I don’t care and I’ve moved on” but deep inside I’m not over it at all. I guess I’m to scared to let my emotions actually show. Tried putting on this strong face, but it’s time for me to face the truth and the reality of the situation.
I don't know if you're talkin about an unrequited friendship or a secretive unrequited love of sorts. If it's the latter, YOU CAN'T FRIENDSHIP YOUR WAY INTO A WOMAN'S PANTS. Ask her out, AND FINALLY make a move, if you like her LIKE THAT! But if you're not attracted to her, maybe she's attracted to you. If that's the case, she had to end it for her own sanity. This is why male/female friendships oftentimes don't work out. Ironically to do better with dating, you need male friends because they will tell you the truth about what turns women on and off. Yeah. I had a friend like that. I think after many YEARS, I have finally given her up. I would write and she would NOT reply, then get mad at me for expecting her to reply in a timely fashion! Or at all! But Ohhhh, she's soooo busy, and I should understand! So true, and if you ever thank them for being your friend, and they say "You're welcome". That's a bad sign. I broke up with someone that I back then always called him as my bestie. He didn't do the same. Barely show any affections. Weren't there when I need him the most, and always me who made the most contact. He is an introvert, but me as well, and for me to fought my anxiety just to contact him (I can count, he did make with contact me for about 6-7 times, for almost 3 years already) almost every was sickening but I did it because I love him as my bestie. Then I realized after we fought and I turn to sulk, he weren't there for me. He always made me do everything and when I did, barely shows gratitude that I will be there for him. That was a painful 7 years old long one-sided friendship. I think I made the right decision. Now I can focus all of my love for someone that cares about me.
My situation is a little bit different...like I have a pretty big friend group and we live in separate parts of the city so its hard to make plans. I'm always the one suggesting to do something but its always too inconvenient for them. Sometimes they reply back really late too because they dont use Facebook or their phone often. And also, its weird because I'm always the one starting the conversation but the conversation is very lively and interesting after, so its not like they're replying with "lol" or "oh". But yeah it just pisses me off that I'm always having to plan things or say hi first and they dont put in the effort to be like, a friend I can count on. They aren't your best friends or even friends for that matter if they blow you off for pathetic guys who are probably going to use them anyways. As for your other situation, some people don't like to initiate anything. I can't say anything else, cuz I honestly don't know the entire situation at hand. But it seems to me like they're good friends. It's just you can't see each other that often.
I know this situation BUT all my friends live in other cities (sucks) and the real ones still find time we still catch up even if I have to ride their 40mins is or they come to me bc if you care about somebody that shit doesn’t matter and in high school I was within a class were everyone came from other places so just unlucky 🤷🏼♀️. And yes they are busy too or stuff gets in the way sometimes but real friends won’t leave you hanging if they got time !

I've been best friend or close friend with this girl for 8 years. I was always the one initiating conversation or the one asking to hang out. I guess she got so used to it that she doesn't think that she should put effort. I moved school so we didn't see each other often. Then we grew apart and she got close to also my other best friend/ close friend. I didnt mind because I understand. But she neglected since the beginning of the year. I told her about it on may 2014. She promised me she would make effort this summer. I put so much effort in helping her through prom and graduation like doing her makeup, helping her choose a dress, and letting her choose One of my dresses if ever she couldn't find one at the mall and helping her get through her insecurities. She is so lazy. She stays home and doesn't want to hang out with anyone but then complains that she's bored. I'm distancing myself from her because I'm just hurt that I was neglected and was just given a broken promise. I guess she was a school friend more than a best friend.

I also have a close freind that barely speaks to me when I call her, making me feel very uncomftorable. The truth! Once you stop texting first, you realize nobody is reaching out. Unfortunately that's the case almost all the time, so we get stuck between whether to just text first again, start conversations or be left alone. But it's not always a negative because during that time you can find more about your family, relatives etc. God bless

I tried being silly to get there attenion but that just caused more conflict so right now my life is just me having no friends, no carrer (i dance but im just not the best for my age and girls 2 years younger than me can do sooo much more,but i never pushed myself to work harder), and spending all my time reading a book or on the internet and thinking about what i could have done in the past to improve my future

This video came at the perfect time. I had never really experienced "one sided relationships" until just recently during this summer. I literally was just talking to my mom about how I was feeling about it. This helped a lot, thanks Meg, missed you!
Hate to loose a best friend. I completely agree with what she said. But it’s very very very hard to let them go. After a 5 year long Bestie relationship, starting today I’m distancing myself from that person. And it extremely hard. Because I loved them so much, then all of a sudden we ain’t communicating. I tried talk to the person about it, but just as she said “they brush it off, or don’t admit to it”... that in itself is painful to witness. I keep telling myself “I don’t care and I’ve moved on” but deep inside I’m not over it at all. I guess I’m to scared to let my emotions actually show. Tried putting on this strong face, but it’s time for me to face the truth and the reality of the situation.
I don't know if you're talkin about an unrequited friendship or a secretive unrequited love of sorts. If it's the latter, YOU CAN'T FRIENDSHIP YOUR WAY INTO A WOMAN'S PANTS. Ask her out, AND FINALLY make a move, if you like her LIKE THAT!
But if you're not attracted to her, maybe she's attracted to you. If that's the case, she had to end it for her own sanity. This is why male/female friendships oftentimes don't work out.
Ironically to do better with dating, you need male friends because they will tell you the truth about what turns women on and off. (Women won't admit to themselves, especially if they're playing the dual mating strategy)

Yeah. I had a friend like that. I think after many YEARS, I have finally given her up. I would write and she would NOT reply, then get mad at me for expecting her to reply in a timely fashion! Or at all! But Ohhhh, she's soooo busy, and I should understand! So true, and if you ever thank them for being your friend, and they say "You're welcome". That's a bad sign. That means they think they're doing you a favour.

Going through this right now with a friendship of over 10 years
I broke up with someone that I back then always called him as my bestie. He didn't do the same. Barely show any affections. Weren't there when I need him the most, and always me who made the most contact. He is an introvert, but me as well, and for me to fought my anxiety just to contact him (I can count, he did make with contact me for about 6-7 times, for almost 3 years already) almost every was sickening but I did it because I love him as my bestie.
Then I realized after we fought and I turn to sulk, he weren't there for me. He always made me do everything and when I did, barely shows gratitude that I will be there for him.
That was a painful 7 years old long one-sided friendship.
I think I made the right decision. Now I can focus all of my love for someone that cares about me.

My situation is a little bit different...like I have a pretty big friend group and we live in separate parts of the city so its hard to make plans. I'm always the one suggesting to do something but its always too inconvenient for them. Sometimes they reply back really late too because they dont use Facebook or their phone often. And also, its weird because I'm always the one starting the conversation but the conversation is very lively and interesting after, so its not like they're replying with "lol" or "oh". But yeah it just pisses me off that I'm always having to plan things or say hi first and they dont put in the effort to be like, a friend I can count on. Also, my 2 best friends keep blowing me off to hang out with guys and stuff. I just feel like I wish I was as much of a priority to them (because i enjoy hanging out with them) as they are to me?
They aren't your best friends or even friends for that matter if they blow you off for pathetic guys who are probably going to use them anyways. As for your other situation, some people don't like to initiate anything. I can't say anything else, cuz I honestly don't know the entire situation at hand. But it seems to me like they're good friends. It's just you can't see each other that often.
I know this situation BUT all my friends live in other cities (sucks) and the real ones still find time we still catch up even if I have to ride their 40mins is or they come to me bc if you care about somebody that shit doesn’t matter and in high school I was within a class were everyone came from other places so just unlucky 🤷🏼♀️. And yes they are busy too or stuff gets in the way sometimes but real friends won’t leave you hanging if they got time !
This is completely the situation with me and this one girl who if was really there for during a situation she had before. Now she's just kinda like whatever but wants 100% of my attention when she has "time." I've spoken to her about it so many times and she literally just laughs it off.

personal experience: this girl has been on and off with me since January and I was like so confused. lol. Since March, a 'friend' keeps telling me she is going to take me camping in her new 'Thor'. She has taken everyone else. Now, it's the end of August. She showed up, and again, said she was going to take me camping...I told her 'save it for someone who believes you'. I'm done. There's more, but it's boring. lol

When I was younger I use to have a Lot of them, but now I just stop texting or somthing like that when I realize I'm doing too much. My Problem is texting someone first because I'm scared I annoye them.
This about sums up 90% of my attempts at friendship. I'm quick to cut these people off, but the staggering numbers are discouraging. :( A lot of people seem to feel that they are entitled to a person's friendship without putting in any effort.
Just called my BFF that my grandfather is dying, he just let me know he's already going to X friend... I've been best friend or close friend with this girl for 8 years.
I was always the one initiating conversation or the one asking to hang out. I guess she got so used to it that she doesn't think that she should put effort. I moved school so we didn't see each other often. Then we grew apart and she got close to also my other best friend/ close friend. I didnt mind because I understand. But she neglected since the beginning of the year. I told her about it on may 2014. She promised me she would make effort this summer. I put so much effort in helping her through prom and graduation like doing her makeup, helping her choose a dress, and letting her choose One of my dresses if ever she couldn't find one at the mall and helping her get through her insecurities. She is so lazy. She stays home and doesn't want to hang out with anyone but then complains that she's bored. I'm distancing myself from her because I'm just hurt that I was neglected and was just given a broken promise. I guess she was a school friend more than a best friend.

i had this one friend id always have all nighters with and we got so close and for her birthday I wrote her the longest message and by the time it was mine we were still friends and she didn't even wish my a happy birthday I had to go "guess who's birthday" and all she said was happy birthday but now I try to talk to her but all she does is ignore me wow so much for caring .-.
This happens with my "best friend" I've been trying to make plans with her since school started, where I do online school now, we've only hung out probably 3 times. I've tried almost every weekend, as well as multiple times on vacations. She doesn't talk to me and ignores me yet she will always hang out with other people..thinking about unfriending her, but we've been friends for 4 years.
I realized that I it was one sided because we hang out only once threw out the year and at first I was saying oh it’s because of quarantine or whatever but she still hangs out with others, when I met her few days ago after one whole year and I started talking about my self she replied “did I ask” and I ask her every week to hang out so today was finally the last time and she said “no” it hurts to see how someone you love, wished the best for and cherished for so many years reply like this but I guess it’s time to move on for both our sakes
I have a zero-sided friendship... I know it sounds so weird, because ...where's the friendship there? This girl and I are in the same class and had common bestfriends, so we ended up considering ourselves bestfriends without actually hanging out or even talking without our other bestfriends. Now those bestfriends are mine only and not hers, so supposedly we're still very close friends, but we really aren't and... COMPLICATED!

Most of the time the friends I have don't occur in this situation. But I did have a friend who I was best friends with since 3rd grade. But ever since we changed high schools she never finds time for me anymore even if she always says that we have to hangout. I'm usually always the one trying to plan something but then she always says she's busy, but I always see her hanging out with different people and even with a girl who goes to my high school who treated me like crap in middle school. This video just describes how she treats me. Even if I go try to talk to her about it she always says that she was grounded or something, there's always an excuse and she never wants to talk it out when I'm reaching out to her. I'm distancing myself now but I do miss how I was so close to her before. I just hate how she has changed and it seems like she doesn't want anything to do with me anymore. It's sad cause I thought she was one of those people who would always tell me everything and always try to find a way to hangout with me but it's just not the same anymore with her. I'm just glad that I did find my new best friends at my high school who don't treat me like that anymore. Anyone else felt like this before or are feeling it now?

Story of my life. I had a friend that got caught up in popularity so much that I was always the one trying to talk to her or make plans for us to just bond. I also have a close freind that barely speaks to me when I call her, making me feel very uncomftorable. The truth! Once you stop texting first, you realize nobody is reaching out. Unfortunately that's the case almost all the time, so we get stuck between whether to just text first again, start conversations or be left alone. But it's not always a negative because during that time you can find more about your family, relatives etc. God bless

For me, there are 4 of us (3 and then me) and pretty much 2 girls (one out of the 4 of us and then a popular girl that we were close to) bullied me and my other two friends joined along but after school they would hang out with me and stuff but didnt want to sit or talk to me during school. And i have been friends with them for 9 years now but its just they arent my "best" friends, just people i like and hang out with. I cant trust them and i cant even relate to them; im just the one on the side that sits there quietly. I tried being silly to get there attenion but that just caused more conflict so right now my life is just me having no friends, no carrer (i dance but im just not the best for my age and girls 2 years younger than me can do sooo much more,but i never pushed myself to work harder), and spending all my time reading a book or on the internet and thinking about what i could have done in the past to improve my future
