There are lots of videos of the drummer, Matt Garstka, playing the songs. And there are videos of all of them. You really have to watch them playing together to see how crazy it is.

You need to see the whole band play this live. The drummer is a beast.

I will never forget the first time I came across Tosin and this video... felt otherwordly, futuristic and I was absolutely baffled.

Just to confirm for you: yes, it’s eight strings and the top two are tuned down to bass guitar levels. The other guitarist in the band has the same. So they can get thumpy low notes without needing a bassist. They’re not ashamed to use samples though, and some of their songs use a bass track.

Tosin is like the pioneer of the new generation prog-metal.There is surely some modern classical sounding in his harmonic spectrum that makes his stuff more unpredictable. And he tends to use thumping technique to create a unique bass-like sound and irregular meter in those highly syncopated riffs.(He use the thumping skill in the clean tone part of Wave of Babies)
He also got his own guitar brand called ABASI.Those are some pretty progressive looking guitars with his own signature pickups from FISHMAN.There are some guitarists like Min Kang,Giuseppe Gilardi,Joshua de la Victora,Joseph Anidjar that highly influenced by Tosin's playing and composing. These guys are also brilliant musicians with more progressive taste in their composing.

Tosin absolutely killed this, but AAL's "The Brain Dance" live is still my absolute favorite live video of them to date, and hands down one of their best tunes to date.
    Definitely worth the experience!

you mentioned you'd like to see the drummer, luckily he has playthroughs of most of their songs posted here on youtube.
I'd recommend the song "Gordian Naught" to react to, as its from their latest record while a great showcase of what the drummer is capable of, his name's Matt Garstka.

AAL is one of the best prog-metal bands out there. I was in love with them for a couple of years :D I still haven't found a better drummer than Matt Garstka.
As for the next suggestions, I strongly recommend a rabbit hole of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. These dudes are genre hoppers, ranging from prog metal to microtonal western acid rock, EDM, and even fucking hip-hop. They also casually release 2 albums per year.
They have a very goofy and weird sense of humor, which is reflected in their music videos. Every band member is a multi-instrumentalist and half of them sing.
They are also known for pretty deep interconnected lore behind their music lyrics, which formed what is called a Gizzverse.

He definitely has a 8 string guitar, because 9 strings would be just to much.
