the double thump technique is unique, Tosin Abasi explored so deep in this bass style that he was able to create an entire new world for guitar musicians, he's a legend.
If you want to dive more into this band I suggest checking out something from " joy of motion" their third album. The fourth and fifth album need some waiting until you are more familiar with them.
If you’re a drummer, you really need to watch some of Matt Garstka’s play throughs of Animals As Leaders songs. Or watch some drum cam video of their live stuff. The dude is a freaking beast.
This song was my introduction to Tosin some 12 years ago and still a song I love to see others experience . If Dream Theater and Meshugga had a progressive love child it would be Animals as Leaders .
Tosin is an alien. So that’s an 8-string with the two top strings tuned very low to play bass guitar notes (layman’s explanation) and yeah he’s doing some thumping on those. There’s another guitarist in the band and he plays the same configuration, so they can swap out lead and rhythm, and they mix in some six and twelve string acoustic as well. That vid you paused at the end (The Brain Dance) is great also, but you should check out a playthrough vid by their drummer Matt Gartska. Tooth And Claw is a favorite but he has many on YT.
Animals as Leaders are insane. If you want to listen to the band that created this sound and inspired the sound of Doom and many of the metal bands of the last 20 years, listen Meshuggah. They invented Djent.
don't know about Doom, but he did do the soundtrack for the newest Bill and Ted movie. send this video he's become known as the virtuoso/GOAT on tour with all the greats doing all the great things.
Check out animals as leaders kascades, cognitive contortions, cafo, and honestly start with new Eden or brain dance to just get your mind into it cus those songs are easier to grasp on to and the last song I would recommend for complete brain fuckery and wizardry micro aggressions is the the greatest song I’ve ever heard.

I think he's said that he got the thump technique from another player that he knows. Can't remember his name
@@saltesh2861 Evan Brewer, a bass player
@@saltesh2861 yes, Evan Brewer. Legendary metal bassist. Most definitely one of the greatest bassists to exist.

Veil of Maya was fun.
Check out physical education. The main riff is that slap "thumping" technique.
You paused on the brain dance, another great song
