Hi guys! So I finally visited the Museum of Anthropology! Ok, let's start the PIEDRA DEL SOL debate. As I describe in the video, everywhere I look in terms of research, people call this the Aztec Calendar Stone, however in the museum it clearly states it was actually a sacrificial altar. Can anyone clarify?
As I've written in previous videos pinned comments, any abusive comments or death threats will be deleted and your profile will be reported.
Additionally, as much as I appreciate all of your input, to save you time I would advise that you take a quick look through the other comments as often many people tell me the same information, I don't have time to reply to each comment (that has the same information) and I don't want to waste your time having to write them! You know what I mean!!
PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO AN ELECTRICITY FAILURE IN MY ACCOMMODATION THERE WILL BE NO LIVE STREAM THIS WEEK AS MENTIONED. SORRY!! ;-)
¡Hola, chicos!

Hi. Since the day it was discovered in 1790 it was thought to be a calendar but it's always been a mistake. The most recent theory is that it is a sacrificial platform, which is highly likely, but no one is sure. The official name is Piedra del Sol. That is the best way to call it. It represents the legend of the creation of the world and pictures the four previous Suns and the current one, the fifth sun, right in the middle. But this is no calendar for sure.

Mexico is a North American country with a North American Culture not a Latino culture. People assume that Mexico is Latin America, but is not! Mexico is Latin American in terms of GDP in terms of race, culture, and traditions it is North American. Mexico has a great history in North America. All Native Americans in North America including the USA, and Canada feel identified with Mexico for its cultural past. Native Americans of Canada and the USA are the same people with the same legacy, culture, and traditions. What is the Term Aztec? Aztec was a name given by those who formed a group with the Toltecs, Olmecs, and Mexica's. These three tribes were not native to Mexico they were native from USA and Canada with a tiny part from South America. The name Aztec was given to identify three dominant Native American groups who were the Toltec, Olmes, and Mexica's, therefore, they named themselves Aztecs. The Mexica's were the ones who built and elaborated the "Aztec" calendar. The Mexica's are a Native American group that actually immigrated to Mexico from northern United States (Idaho, Montana, and North Dakota) and Canada. In Canada and northern United States the Mexica's are related to a North American tribe called the Black Foot Native American. If you look at a Black Foot Native American and a Mexica they have the same skin color, the same height, the same facial features, and the same hair. The Mexica's decided to immigrate to Mexico with the Calendar and so their journey took them to Mexico. The Calendar was built in Canada and Northern United States.

The word Mexico also comes from Northern United States, and Canada that word was developed by the Native Americans who lived in those regions. Mexica= North American.

This museum is one of the best in the world. All the art and historical pieces are incalculable in value. We are talking as the same level as the big museums like the louvre. Many people don't even imagine how important this museum is not only to Mexico but to the entire world. To visit every section in the museum will take you at least a week. Also its architecture by itself is important. It was designed by one of the best Mexican architects whose name is Pedro Ramirez Vazquez who also designed the Aztec stadium and the new Guadalupe cathedral in Mexico City.

Great video... As always. I guess the Sun Stone or "Aztec Calendar'' is really a calendar. It has all the elements of a time record keeper. It shows 18 months of 20 days (360) plus 5 bad luck days. Most of the videos I have seen about it seem to think it's really a solar calendar wether it was used for any other purpose. Thanks for sharing... Keep it up!!!!

I've seen 3 videos of foreign vloggers going to the museum and not making it to the aztec hall, they would just get some footage of the other parts and give up/get bored before making it to the best section. Fine job on your video :)

I loved the Aztec and mayan sections! The only thing about that museum is that I think you have to go back there for a second or even third visit as there's just so much to absorb!

  • @RaulFlores-vy7rz

So, what I know that's fact. All mesoamerican Civilizations shared cultures and believed in the same Gods. The Aztecs took a lot of ideas from the Mayans, like there calendar
I studied the "Stone of the Sun" in UC Stanislaus with Dr. Felipe. It clearly is a calendar, and we studied it with other Mesoamerican Calendars for comparison.
It's more than a calendar, it's a history book, that can navigate our solar system, predic weather, and be so precise on dates and time that it doesn't need a leap year.
From what I was told by my Teacher, books, and respected archaeologist. This is an Aztec Monument.
I never heard that this was Mayan. Even my professor visited this place, never mentioned it saying it said something about the Mayans.
We even make jokes about People thinking the Aztec Calendar is Mayan
I do know that this was created from knowledge of the Mayan Calendar, in the image of the Aztecs. Maybe that's where there could be some confusion? But idk.
It's the Aztec calendar to me, until I see the facts 😉

The light in the museum has to be minimal to keep the artifacts from being damaged.
The same thing happens in the Templo Mayor museum in Zocalo.

    Hello there.
The olmec heads are quite cool. I ve seen 14 of them. Only missing the ones from Tabasco. Actually it was sheer coincidence i stumbled upon them. But they have something mesmerizing.
There have been found 17 so far.
2 Are in the Museum of Anthropology.
1 is in the Museum of Tres Zapotes, Veracruz
1 is in the Mueseum of Santiago de Tuxtla, Veracruz
1 is in the same place at the central plaza (Plaza central de Santiago de Tuxtla, Veracruz)
Interesting fact is that the smallest and also the biggest olmec head are both in Santiago de Tuxtla. The one inside the museum being the smallest.
2 are in Villahermosa, Tabasco. In the Museum of La Venta
1 is in Villahermosa, Tabasco. In the Carlos Pellicer Museum
And the rest of them are all in the Museum of Anthropology in Xalapa. Btw, this is the second most important Museum in Mexico, regarding Anthropology.
So i do recommend a small deviation of your tour to Xalapa. If you want to see the heads, it s truly worth it.
Regarding the aztec and mayan calender it s a really complicated matter. But definitely not left up to interpretation. I will probably address this later when i have more time.
In the mean time good luck and fun travelling around Mexico!

      @davidostrowski679  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Ro Calvo hi Ro! Thankyou so much for the information, so I was right about Villahermosa! I was planning a trip years ago but never went, so hopefully I will get time.
Unfortunately I'm now flying from Oaxaca to Merida due to time constraints, so perhaps I will see more of Tabasco when I return later in the year.
I look forward to your comments about Piedra del Sol, as you can see people already have differing views. I've even asked some mexican friends here and they aren't certain either!
Thanks again and enjoy your weekend 😁

hey alan, i'm still overwhelmed by it, I didn't even go to most of the top floor, I'll have to go back I think! As well as reading on the wall that it isn't an Aztec calendar, there was also a guide near me speaking in English who said the same! But on other places I've heard that it was used as both. I think most people's common perception is that it was some form of calendar. Maybe if I can invent time travel I'll go back and find out!!
Probably no live stream today as I've had no electricity since yesterday, i'm in the Bibilioteca right now!

    • @hellknightf1
      @hellknightf1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

First World Traveller oh man, good I didn't missed any live stream since I just came back home, so unfortunate about the electricity I personally regress to primal state without it xD.
Also indeed can be so overwhelming, you'd need two full days to even try to digest everything. Now there's another grate museum in Ciudad Universitaria named Universum, for anyone interested in science this museum is a must, is not only educational but interactive too, museums dedicated to science are always overlooked, it stroke me I've never seen a video on a science museum lol, but no pressure.
      Safe travels!

Contemporary arguments, politics, even the school system aside, I would consider the most reliable source to be the museum. When new research comes to light there can be an understandable delay in changing the exhibits but in general I would consider that my trusted source of information. What a discussion you've ignited! At least people are engaged and talking. Keeping it civil, peaceful, and searching for truth. Oh my! Did you ever?!

Tao of David that stone is a summary of the Cosmo vision about the creation of humans through previously four different solar eras and the fith one we are living is represented with the face in the very center surrounded by the previous four eras with the glyphs around. But also it contains calendar glyphs about days and months in the solar calendar and some glyphs represent very specific dates. According to the last researches it was not finished due to a crack in the stone. Most likely the plan was to have engravings on both sides. Have a good one.
