    its not that your using acrylic pastels, your using dry hard pastels. any dry pastels aren't oil based. soft pastels are oil based. as long as dry pastels are used your good. so the viewers cam search them under dry pastels.

      christophercerda So It's better to use dry pastel than soft pastel for pastel shading pvc figures? Dry pastel is the same as hard pastel, right?

    Is there some kind of sealer that you put on after?

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually use Testors Dullcote on everything.

  • @ignatiusroger

    Thanks for this video....something easy to start with. After the dullcote, it last? How long to dry it after spray?

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually let it sit a few hours, make sure it's nice and sealed.

    What stops the pastels from just rubbing off?

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to Dullcote it or seal it with your preferred sealer. Be careful if you spray, it may blow some of the pastel away. Just lightly spray it in a quick pass.

    • @pyjamagenie
      @pyjamagenie 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering what you meant by dullcote in the video. Is that some type of spray?

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it's a spray sealer that protects your paint after you're finished. bit.ly/1rKcbzz There are a lot of different brands but Testors Dullcote is my preferred method.

    Do we have to spray with topcoat before applying the pastel?

    • @TheFwoosh
      @TheFwoosh  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It helps the pastel adhere, adds a little surface. You don't HAVE to, but it does work better.

    • @gremlinbd
      @gremlinbd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i use this on model kits(mostly like here, to do shading on figs, but also weathering)... i don't want to just be contradictory, but especially with bare, injection plastic like this i find the pastels wipe/blow off far too easily and just putting on a clear coat before pastels is a night and day difference with control and coverage. also, going over acrylics tends to stick too well, so i use the same method of clear-coating before applying

    • @lugomat
      @lugomat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gremlinbd I'm gonna try this for the first time, so... Coating, then pastels, then coating again? Thank you for all the useful info 🙏

    • @gremlinbd
      @gremlinbd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lugomat yes. I usually start with a coat of paint that's dried, topcoat that with dullcote and wait around 20-30 minutes. It'll be dry, but not 24 hrs. dry. Then I apply my pastels and dullcote again, first with a light mist coat from further away to avoid too much direct airflow, then again after about 20-30 minutes to give it a full smooth finish.
