That's not a WW2 french bayonet, that's a 1874 Gras bayonet. Though obsolete, many were still used during WW1 by reserve troops and even by German POW camps guards. This one is interesting, as it seems clear it has been shortened, probably to be used as a trench knife. Good job, as this bayonet was clearly beyond restoration...

I own one that I bought from an antique shop years ago. Mine has an inscription saying “Mre d’armes de St Etienne 1876” which means “Manufacture of arms of Saint-Etienne 1876”. A fun fact about this blade is that it is one of the last of its kind. These bayonets are the last sword-type models before the French army moved to more contemporary bayonets that resemble knives.

I actually really like the bubbles/indentation in the blade. It's not a very structurally supportive look, but it really does add some character to a very old blade :)

For me, this shows what great skill you have to create the inner possibilities an object gives you in your imagination. You not only bring it back but layer more beauty upon something with nickel plating and gold foil. Bravo! it is interesting that this weapon might have actually taken someone's life/lives, and you have created a memorial piece as such. Beautiful.

Great job, It never ceases to amaze me how cool steel is. Underneath the rust is almost always a heart of steel that can be brought back to life and used again if you put enough time and effort and skill into it. .And I like sandblasting. I have the same cabinet but have not figured out a good lighting solution yet

Depending on the cat's gender: for a male- Agni, which means fire, which describes the beautiful eyes. For a female- Rococo, which is an elegant Victorian era fashion in France and would fit the elegance.
I don't know really much anyting about restoring, but I think sandblasting is my favorite because of how shiny looking the blade gets so satisfying.Also, it so unique how you lift up your apron and it says subscribe to creative. Keep up the good work!

With that metal ring at the junction between the handle and blade and the "T" backbone of the blade, plus it's about a foot long this "knife" looks like a bayonet.
yeah, it *HAS* to be a bayonet. knives dont have those rings, and the shape of the blade is triangular, meaning it was indeed meant for combat. .. musket combat, but combat nonetheless.

That knife turned out to be a thing of beauty. Made all the more attractive by the rust pit marks left in the blade. 👍

I've never said this before, but that nickel plating looks amazing. I can't get enough of these textures with a mirror shine. I'd absolutely collect a piece like this. Your cat is beautiful also. She'll (?) hopefully become a staple in your videos, like Avril lol.

With that metal ring at the junction between the handle and blade and the "T" backbone of the blade, plus it's about a foot long this "knife" looks like a bayonet.
That’s what it is I’d bet. It’s about the right shape and size for a bayonet lug

yeah, it *HAS* to be a bayonet. knives dont have those rings, and the shape of the blade is triangular, meaning it was indeed meant for combat. .. musket combat, but combat nonetheless.
It's a late 1800's French Bayonet. There's one for sale up on eBay that looks like this.
