  • Newer players whom have gotten used to easier titles like Oblivion or Skyrim see Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall is an oppressive title that is far too difficult to get into. So I'll be doing a guide on how to download, install, build characters, and get started with the game. We'll be talking about an easy build for new players as well as a broken overpowered build that makes the game FAR too easy.

      Hey do you have a guide on how to map out an xbox one controller with this?
      One of the major problems this game has is that you can not have a multi function button like in most modern games.
      Float up and jump should all be A button ect also how do I get my controller from stop turning into a mouse that prevents me from being able to look up or down.
      I seriously hate this games controls its infuriating because I want to play it so badly but I HATE the control scheme so much, also being left handed doesn't make playing this monster of a game any easier

      My mother bought us copies of PC Gamer magazine in the 90s, to keep us from nagging her into buying new games, and on one edition's included disc was a demo for Daggerfall. Never got a chance to play myself, as I found it too complicated and I preferred Diablo I, Starcraft I and Warcraft II and other RTS games, however I did spectate my brother playing the Daggerfall demo for hundreds of hours. The gameplay, the graphics, the audio--all of it was so immersive and memorable. Thanks for making a positive contribution to my childhood! 👍

      I think a large game with a lot of stuff in it can get away with it in a way that a smaller game (that only did it sometimes, making it stick out more) cannot. Also, the radiant stuff doesn't come off as lazy given everything else in the game and how it handles the other stuff. Going from something very obviously written and thought about (not in terms of lore, but otherwise), and then suddenly being tasked with going to [location] to get [item] with barely any spoken words in an otherwise modern, 3D, fully voice acting psuedo-RPG sticks out. Also, DF's is less lazy, or at least, there are more radiant things per examples of radiant mechanic. That said, without mods, why play ANY of these games - so grab a mod then fluffs up the radiant-ness of DF, and as for Skyrim, Interesting NPC's and Legacy of the Dragonborn (etc, etc, etc..) are basically required (also, Morrowloot Ultimate with the encounter zone update).

    • @gratuitouslurking8610
      @gratuitouslurking8610 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@xBINARYGODx That's honestly the biggest killer to me with the radiant stuff Bethesda did in Skyrim/FO4. Often the only radiant part of how they did it was the (location) to do (activity) for (generic set of written lines in most voice types). No changes to what occupies a dungeon over time unless it's something connected to a major quest completion (visit a dragon word wall before, then after Dragon Rising for a good example, or some of the other dungeons related to one of the guilds). Organic Factions for Skyrim is another mod that also helps with taking such radiant data and expands on it to stupidly advanced levels.

    If I can give one advice to Daggerfall newbies, it would be this: don't rush to do the Main Quest. It consists of two branches, each of which starts with a letter you get. These don't have a time limit, so make the best out of this - level up, improve your skills, get good gear, learn spells (if you're a spellcaster), join 2 or 3 guilds, get promotions (and perks!), and then, when you finally feel strong and ready, tackle that Main Quest.
    And one more thing - save often ;)

    • @OneTrueNobody
      @OneTrueNobody 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Slight caveat; you need to answer the FIRST letter you get within a month, but that's just going to a randomized tavern to get the basic information on the main quest from a contact. It's the letters you get from Wayrest and Sentinel at level 3 and level 5 that don't have a time limit, I think.
      In any case, travel time to both of those destinations from the Daggerfall region takes quite a while, even when travelling recklessly. So it's generally a good idea to make use of the inevitable in-game time lag to sort of... work your way in that general direction by doing quests in each subsequent region. You can't even travel to Sentinel in a straight line without a 100,000 gold ship, anyway.

    • @AlexeiVoronin
      @AlexeiVoronin 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OneTrueNobody - Indeed. The first letter comes with a time limit, though it requires a short trip.
      BTW, as an alternative to buying a ship, you can also join a Knightly Order and reach the rank of Commander, at which point you get free ship travel... and free lodging everywhere ;)
      Having your own ship is still useful, though, because it serves as a "home away from home" that you can instantly teleport to and from.

    Great host, great content, one comment: The reflection of the monitor in your glasses makes looking at you very difficult because your eyes are two squares of blue light.
    I will be getting DF Unity though to try again because of this video. Great collection of information from install instructions to mods, thank you.

    Been playing this and even though I started the series with Oblivion, I honestly have come to really enjoy this version of Daggerfall.
    Never could get into vanilla Daggerfall, but this version, this version is honestly what I more expected Daggerfall to be. The reduced size in the maps also helped me enjoy the game a lot more too.

    Thanks I'm finally giving it a fair shake. I basically built the character you showed but as a Brenton. Still getting my ass whooped (the skeletons are impossible to beat!) and can't find the exit of the first dungeon, came back to this video and saw where you went I swear I looked all over there but I'll try again.

    Just one comment regarding dungeons and guild quests: number of days to complete the quest is also calculated according how hard the target is from the dungeon entry. E.g. if target is close, quest can take like 9 days (travel time there and back + time to get the target). If time is like 21 days it may mean either that target is deep in the dungeon or on hidden place or on place hard to get to.
    Also you can actually notice certain patterns of how dungeons are made. You can notice those sections to repeat and be connected to other sections. And, what is cool about this, quest targets, if located in such section, are always on 1 or few more places so when you enter the dungeon and you do recognize the section you can go directly to those places to check them (for person to kill/save, ingredient/artifact, whatever), saving time.

    What do you recommend for a movement and exploration oriented build? I'm interested in exploring those aspects of the game for my first playthrough, or at least the useful ones.
    Jumping and climbing, Floating, Swimming (endurance), Crouching
    Skills: Athleticism, climate survival (4 terrains), look, sneak
    Spells: Chameleon and invisibility, silence, flare and light, stat boost (speed/endurance/jumping/agility/strength), ghost form, levitate, shadow form, slowfall, stamina, water breathing and walking
    Thanks.

    Isbt there any mod ( or movement in the modding community) that would change and improve mechanics? bringing it close to oblivion mechanics at leas? and/or change improve npc to full 3d objects?
