Chris, thank you for your enthusiasm and expertise and willingness to share. Keeps me coming back. Thank you for helping to make sense of the overly complicated world of modern cameras, Fuji cameras. My first was a Fujica ST-701 which I bought in high school in...1972 😲 I also enjoy the high speed off topic intro you often use. The one here makes me chuckle and wonder if at one time you worked for the cable company. Drilling holes in the floors and walls to run cable? But hey it looks like you were hugely successful. And truth be told I've done that too. The real world is not an episode of Ask This Old House, with experts coming over to take care of us. Keep up the good work!

  • @fabienb

There's also the "shoot without lens" setting. If you want to use a 3rd party lens this needs to be enabled as well, and it's not like with the SD: I assume you'll notice if you don't have a lens attached ;)
On the Focus/Release priority... It depends. Recently I was out to photograph wildlife with the Fuji 100-400mm and a 2x teleconverter and this combo is a bit slow to focus. If I had the camera set to Release I would have gone home with a series of blurry birds because the camera would have shot no matter what. With the Focus priority, I may have missed a couple moments but I went home with 1000 shots perfectly in focus! Which caused another problem: selection, lol. But I managed and published a few in my recent video ;)
And why shoot without SD is set to ON by default is beyond comprehension 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Cheers.

Thanks for making a fast-Friday video in a busy and hectic week. I will be changing the shutter setting. I have gone to setting my ISO at 640 so the 400 DR works. Yesterday I ran into the 8000 issue. I had to lower the ISO to gain some breathing room. I have also been in situations recently where it can't shoot a bracketed shot because the shutter speed is at the max. This tip will solve those problems. Thanks. Have a great weekend!

I used to live near USAF Bentwaters Air Base in the UK,famous for an Alien craft sighting in the 1980's.I was in the nearby forest with my camera and a strange humming sound broke the silence. The metal lid of the craft unscrewed slowly and suddenly two large eyes appeared - the size of donuts.Somehow they beckoned me into the craft and everything went dark for what seemed like an immeasurable eternity. When i awoke on the forest floor, curled up in the foetal position, smoke was still swirling from the scorched earth all around me.They had gone , yet i was unblemished but as my bleary eyes scanned my body i noticed with horror i had been rubber stamped with number 8's which covered my entire being. They have faded now but the experience has left me feeling completely.....alienated !
Thanks for the tips Chris and if they do ever return to this galaxy at least i can relax in the knowledge that there will be an SD card in the camera.
Maybe you didn't planet but you're definitely a STAR my friend. Cosmic.Previously unseen footage of them i have finally decided to release after 40 years and i chose your channel to break it to the world Chris. This is IT !

I set AFC to focus and AFS to release on my XT2 as AFC can be a little slow and unreliable. I get much better results in AFC that way with most lenses. For street shooting, where you don't want to startle the subject, electronic shutter (silent) is better under most daytime lighting conditions unless the subject is moving very fast. For artificial light, mechanical is the way to go to prevent banding.

Shooting without SD card: I consider this a "shop demo" setting, which is probably also why it's "on" by default! So that shops can easily demo you the camera, without having to fiddle with settings or put in an SD card.
Indeed, this setting should be "off" forever when you actually own and use that camera!

I actually set my shutter to MS+ES based on the previous video of yours and it saved me in the exact scenario you gave. Was at the beach trying out my new Tokina 33mm 1.4. I was confused for a sec on some silent photos I took and realized I was pushing the shutter speed over 1/8000. Would have been more frustrating if I hadn't allowed the ES before going out.

Hi Chris, love your videos and appreciate all the effort you go to to share your awesome Fuji skills. I have a question about RAW shooting on my x-t3. When choosing settings in the IQ menu, is it best to leave everything at defaults or set HT, ST, color, NR etc to film simulation recipes you like for JPEGs? Wondering if it’s best to keep raw settings vanilla and then apply “look” preferences in capture one or x-raw studio? In which case, is eterna the best simulation to use for raw, as it’s so flat and desaturated? Or does any of this even matter with RAW? Also, is it best to keep natural live view off for the most accurate histogram for RAW exposure setting? Thanks for your help!

    Hi Chris,
I'm following you since long and I have a xt4 too. Off the topic. Today I payed more attention to this yellow soft release on your shutter. I have one in red and I took out from the camera since I saw a yt video about how to shoot without this extension. It could be dangerous for the shutter and for the pictures cause without this soft release, might shoot with less shutter speed. Just try it. It's impressive.

In video mode, the Autofocus will only work properly while recording. When I livestream, I have multiple cameras through a video switcher and I need the autofocus and don't want them to record to SD cards. Basically it's a mode that's useful for recording through hdmi. Love your channel!
