I'm learning French on my own for over a year. I'm listening to a lot of podcasts I have recorded on the memory stick mixed with French songs so I can listen in my car all the time. After that I do that on You Tube at home in my free time. Mind you I'm almost 70 and I had only some basic knowledge of French Grammar from high school. Now I'm listing to podcast I couldn't even dream few months before. My other technique is to type a text in the Office Word with capability of spell checking in French. This allows me to insert the accents I can't type on my keyboard, and correct mistakes I did in spelling. Just typing in French makes me to become intensely involve in the process of learning. I only use Google Translator, mostly the microphone future to check my pronunciation. Doing this I noticed the quick progress within short period of time. I still dream to visit France even for few days.
I learnt French at a French international school as a child for years. I stopped speaking for 20 years. I took up some italki and watched intermediate French videos. Maybe 20 hours worth. I found I am fluent again but missing my C1 vocab. Just a fluent B2. I might take a course in France to get C1 after a month or 2. For German, I took 700 hours of intensive courses all in a row without breaks. Goethe. A1 to B2. And added 300 hours italki. Done everyday since day 1. Had tons of feedback and corrections.I have done 300 hours glossika and all 60 lingq mini stories 2 times. I also took another intensive private course after the morning intensive course right after goethe at another school. I can say after 6 months, I can talk very fluently at around C1 level. I have done 1500 hours and I studied this language full time. I found languages becoming easier to learn after you learn a bunch to a high level. Lived 15 years in hong kong and 10 years in Ukraine. So Russian and Cantonese are around C1.
I am passionate about learning languages too. I really enjoyed watching your video. It's awesome seeing the raw footage of you speaking in French - the real evidence - so brave and real!
Very cool!! I learned Spanish in high school in the US.. well enough that I was able to express myself on solo travels to Peru once I graduated. I was obsessed with the language and even though it was pretty traditional teaching style, I learned a ton. You're so right that the personal interest is important. I have since continued and become quire fluent in Spanish. It's a new experience for me to try comprehensible input for learning French and I appreciate your tips and examples. Bonne chance!
You seem very comfortable in front of the camera. That takes some doing just like learning a language. May I ask from the immersion point of view, was living with a French family in Paris more productive than the French classes? Thank you for your honesty throughout the video which I really enjoyed. Merci beaucoup!
As someone who is learning on their own even I can see you’ve definitely made some progress. Four weeks isn’t very long either. Guessing you’d be at a good level after a few months or so.
Wait... The woman in the first conversation claims her level of French is C2, and yet she says "j'ai alle en France"? I'm sorry, maybe I'm ignorant because I've only been learning French for 3 years... Is there any secret C2 grammar rule that allows you to use "avoir" with "aller" in passe compose in some cases?
Great question! My classmates ages ranged from 18-65, I’d say the average being about mid 30s. A lot of people were learning just for fun like me, like it was a personal goal of theirs. A few people said that they had taken classes for years in high school, but wanted to come back to it to finally nail it. And one friend I made was learning it to work in North Africa. And another was a psychotherapist who had some patients who spoke French and wanted to be able to connect with them better. And people were from all over the world. Japan, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, China the list goes on.
Overall, definitely yes, experience with spanish makes some of the French grammar structures feel intuitive. Butttt I’m guilty of getting tricked by false cognates as well.
@@MethodMarcus ah thanks! Good to know. My wife and I are both studying Spanish (CI) right now while traveling through the Americas, and we’re thinking about French next for Africa and Europe.
Bravo 👏

Idk I thought it’s etre as in je suis allé but she probably made a mistake
I'd be interested in who your classmates are, their ages and why they were learning.

Boy, she was really interested in talking with you.😢
Yeah that was my first thought….
😅🤣
What was that.. 😢
Do you feel like Spanish helps with French?

Looky... literally hit the ground running into #TotalImmersion after your #ComprehensibleInput learning. Whew! 😅#Feedback
This girl is a B2-C1 but not a C2. I found her very rude to never stop doing her stuff while you were speaking with her😮
