Tip; if you didn’t do it off camera, lube the new o-ring with light coat of oil.

Thanks for the video. it is really helpful.
Do I really need to drive more than 30 minutes before measuring the oil level?
Is it OK to drive before I’m sure that the oil level is OK ?
And what do you mean by “Drive on the block “??
    Sorry for my poor English.
I would really appreciate it if you answer me .

Hi Bob, I live in california which is warm weather. Do you think I can do 5w30 instead of 0w30?

Changing the lower number is not going to improve anything. It's the cold flowing viscosity. If anything you could consider a 0w40. The second number is the 'hot' viscosity. There's a few good sites that explain in more detail

You aren't kidding the oil filter design did not consider ease of maintenance. TY for the video.

hey, just tackling my first oil change on my wife's m40i. I do all my own work, and don't get stumped by much, but after a few minutes of....where the heck is the oil filter, I came inside and found your video. We've all sorts of bmws since the early 80s. We love the x3 but good grief, that's just a dumb idea having it tucked in the back like that. Thanks very much for making this. It helped and was good to hear I'm not the only one waiting out the bmw change interval. I think our book says 13k which is insane. thank you!!

I have rhino ramps, Can I use the ramps for oil change. Will it drain all the oil? Thanks!

I would try to be as level as possible to ensure you get the old oil out. Maybe safely jack the back up to make the car level

Hi Bob, I'm driving X4(G02) M40i, what type and brand of oil you are using, thanks!!

Hi, I'm using 0-40w Mobile 1 European formula. It's not an approved BMW oil anymore, but it was for years, and the formula is nearly identical to the approved Castrol 'approved' oils. I'm not recommending to do as I do regarding your oil choice, but it seems to work well for me. There are plenty of approved oils out there. The most important number in choosing is the lower ie the "0" as it dictates the cold flowing viscosity.

How do you reset the oil service light?

    • @bobmac1970

Hi, Hold the odometer reset button until the trip odometer goes to zero then back to where it was at (about 10sec). A menu choicelist should appear. Each long hold of the button mean you want to reset that item. If you go to my channel, I also have a video on that. :)

Is it just a regular 32 mm socket to take off the oil filter cap or is a specific 32?

    • @daniellamas647

Dont know, regularly sure. I was here to determine if it was 32 or 36. Probably 32 thanks fo youyr question
