We need independent journalists like you. Having the right resources and asking the right questions is excellent. There is so much rich and valuable content in the interview.

Great interview. I wonder how you get hold of these people for interviews.
I am sure he did not mention corruption because that would have been looked upon by the government as a negative. People like this have to be diplomatic. This interview was long before the election and he may respond differently now. Good job, Alanki.

Thank you so much for being given a great description of the economy and its come-back story in Sri Lanka for the international. It is a good breakthrough that can explain how to overcome other countries through their economic challenges. 💯💯💯

This interview with Gregory Smith is the mother of all interviews by Krishani Alanki, shed light on the IMF Assistance on multiples of times. Alanki's questions were intelligence and clever. Better to summarize the key points and present them to the president for action.

My friend, you have been very diplomatic and forgiving for the sins which had been taken place in Sri Lanka. The country has been lashed by politicians and people are now picking the pieces. Let's talk straight rather than being a hoodwinker!

I think IMF employees are instructed to be deplomatic in these affairs. He can't criticise specific actions taken by politicians or political parties. Do you remember how the Rajapakshas had convinced half the people that all NGOs are our enemy and out to destroy us? There are certain protocols you must follow when you are working for such organisations.

    Where did we go wrong
This person have no idea of the expenses
The state officials take a major share of the generated revenue
How many pensions a government servants at retirement is this happening.
No one example the expenses on retired Presidents. Pension is
Not a problem .check the millions expended as benefits.

It was another political/diplomatic cordial conversation only avoiding the sharks that engulfed our nation’s richness openly but closing the peasant eyes. Why all majority is looking for only government jobs? How can anyone start entrepreneurships in the presence of ling ongoing uncertainty while no support at all from the government that i ly looks at ways ti increase taxes on people. Another hidden means if slavery. Our people are way smarter than the ones in any other country in the world comparatively, but is nit recognized meaningfully by those who must. Let us find ways to create a leadership that can appreciate our values first.

SL's journalism is at a very low-mind position. One can see that our mainstream journalism and journalists only look for things, like vultures looking for carcasses. They don't want to discuss positive things because the public is equally looking for rotten carcasses.
Amidst such a background, respect your journalism.

    Has anybody thought like this;
As Mr.Smith said , the decade 2007-2017, there was significant growth. That also means someday Sri Lanka will be free from debt. Now comes the issue, some parties who have lent Sri Lanka actually should be happy they get their money back with interests., but in the ironey that it is not so. And when this goes so, they do not wish Sri Lanka will pay their money back., understandable - they want island's property in lue of their money.
And how they are succeeding their motives is keeping Sri Lanka's economy down, by all means! After the so called decade of growth, they succeeded in placing a ruler who is in terms with them. You may remember "April 2019" also the way of handling the economy, eg: rulliing out all the chemical fertilizers to carbonic fertilizers, overninght! That;s one example how our economy began to collapse, presumblly it is delibarte.
From there on, upto the day, there's a hidden force that very vigilantly keeping our economy down, to reach their motives.
Also it's presumble that these forces didn't like we undergo the MCC project that was just about to be carried out here.
And all the text here, show only the tip of the ice-burg .... There are pepole who see it full don't seem to speak up the issue in public!

This person does not have an understanding of the situation in Sri Lanka. He did not talk about corruption, waste, not collecting taxes, no fair competition etc. Sri Lanka's debts increase from USD 80 billion to USD 100 billion. He seems like a social enemy for appreciating the free education system in Sri Lanka.
