Now the time is out for Nandalal for his bad reputation during past assignments as deputy governor & can never trust him the stragie to import vehicles may also back fire together with finance ministry

In the analysis, the governor pointed out that the commercial borrowings increased from 2007 onward. My concern is, if the previous governments that obtained low rate loans have utilized those funds diligently for sufficient return generating investments, would the 2007 government have to go for higher commercial borrowings. If a question was raised touching that factor the discussion would be more balanced.

At the outset letme appreciate the humility and attitude of the Governor in coming over to the residence of the interviewer for this valuable conversation.This is a departure from the arrogance of some of the past Governors.Thanks Alanki, for bringing this conversation to the table. Now for some comments. 1.The analysis and the review of the economy is very good. 2.The IMFdeal is the practical path and the new government's has also taken the practical path in continuing from where it was.It is heartening to note that befire each periodic review flexibility is there for changes as per changed situations. 3.In the Governor's analysis of the reasons for the bankcruptcy and economic mess he did not cover one of the main contributory factors factors ie curruption,waste and inafficiency of the political system and public service. 4.However, the outlook is promising with the political,socio economic stebility and no curruption large investments(not loans) are expected, which would bring a new dimension to the equation.

I believe Dr Weerasinghe and CBSL deserve some credit for bringing the country back on track out of the deapths of bankruptcy and maintaining their stance during the last few years.Good conversation and hats off to you for hosting it in a fine manner.

Excellent convo. Dr Nandalal broke down a very complex debt issue in a very simple way for us to understand. He is definitely the most suited person for this job. Its amply clear that he is wise and has a clear vision for a bright sri lanka. Hope the government will work closely with him out of corruption to build a better tomorrow.

Brilliant interview. It cleared a big grey area, where many casted aspertions that Ranil pushed the debt to 2028 and washed his hands and putting the country into a deep mess. But the Governor said it is not so. If we continue the way it is going, then it will be not be a problem in 2028 to settle the Debts. With this people will understand the bona fides of Ranil putting the country first. Thank you Alanki. Brilliant job.

Very good interview and very logical. Many people do not seem to understand the important role the Governor has played in stabilising the economy after the disastrous era from 2015 to 2022. The present government seem to have realised this and is working very collaboratively with the CBCL to progress the economy. As he said, government policy will determine that and he has outlined the basic requirements. Implementation of government policy is being stifled by inefficient systems, lethargic and politicised bureaucracy and crony capitalists who have benefitted in the past. SL has to overcome these challenges or face doom. IMO we are on the right path.

Tax and spend instead of borrow and spend Implement fair taxation. The rich will always complain that they made their money through their efforts but actually it's on the back's of the workers. Therefore they should pay a fair wage. Implement a minimum wage so that people will not be exploited. No more politicians putting their stooges in government departments. Hire on merit Create full employment less than 5% unemployment Pay people biweekly so that people have money to spend instead of end of the month. Put money in the hands of people. They will spend and stimulate the economy. Alanki keep up the excellent work.

Plenty of praise must be given to Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe for saving the country from Hyper Inflation, but beyond controlling inflation, I feel that Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe advice is wanting. The debt restructuring deal is clearly flawed and there is a real possibility we will have to renegotiate the whole thing in the near future. The domestic restructuring was another debacle in which the pension fund was the sole target while bonds with 30% returns where left to mature. His recent comment on the revised tax restructuring also hints at his Neo Lib roots which has proven to favour the rich over everyone else Also no Sri Lankan economist will admit the detrimental effect the oligarchy had on our economy.
