It doesn’t just perpetuate itself by magic. Oppose those who threaten thus, and often all other, regional identities.

Do a little research and you’ll find that Southern California once had a lot of influence from the South, and during the civil war SoCal was full of Southerners and people sympathetic to the South. The same goes for Southern Arizona and Southern New Mexico.

Thanks to the Abbeville Institute for keeping Southern Conservatives alive. M.E. Bradford should be a household name among Southerners, but I doubt that I know 1 person who has ever read his essays or, much less, heard of him.

I’m from the UK, I love this channel and am very interested in Southern History. I also follow Oliver (Christopher) Anthony, and understand from what he has said is that his song is about the plight of the working working class (Blue collar) and the greed of the ruling class (White Collar) of any of the political parties ( that goes for both Biden and Trump) and the fact that they don’t care one bit about those lower than them, and have only one goal: keep the poor, poor and the rich even richer.
When it comes to the political history of the south and am always confused with the term southern conservatism, as from the outside looking in, it would seem that the stance taken by the south was historically the opposite to conservatism, and more akin to being liberal and believing in liberty, of which the Democratic politicians of the south believe in so much that they seceded from the union.
The liberal confederacy movement was founded against the ‘imperialistic’ republican conservatism. In the UK if you are a Conservative you are generally from the ruling white collar elite, you are generally a war monger, generally looking to impose unfair and unjust rules and law upon the masses in an un-democratic way.
A word I hear a lot when visiting the USA is ‘Liberty’ which is derived from liberalism, yet if anyone says they are liberal will be called a ‘Libtard’ which again is confusing, sawing as the south was founded on Democratic liberation?
When did the south and the Blue collar workers swap from being liberal democrats to being conservative republicans? This is a genuine question and in no means meant to cause offence. 👍

My opinion is Lincoln kind of changed the nature of language by his peculiar interpretation of the Constitution. Since he was not open to objectivity absolute truths are generally considered in defiance of status quo therefore possibly a public safety issue. "Truth is relative" or "It all means what I say it means" are predetermined dogma.

Conservative in the American context means someone who defends and seems to conserve the original Constitution as ratified in 1789, and the Federal Union that Constitution governed. To quote J.C. Calhoun: "I am a conservative because I am a States' Rights man."

Southern Conservatism is tied to a person, time frame and profession…… it’s Jeffersonian, who would have been a liberal for his time, and agrarian
In the 1860’s, republicans called us reactionary and conservative…….
Soooo typically speaking a Southern Conservative is. Thomas Jefferson man
Modern American conservatives are lincoln men… who was a 19th center liberal and looked down on Jefferson
Which is about as clear as mud

I’m learning that a lot of Southern Conservative positions are very similar to many traditional Catholic views, so Carol being among them should be no surprise.

The antebellum South had a growing industrialist class. It can’t be assumed that that (indigenous) industrialist class wouldn’t have eventually become the dominant economic force of a South where secession had never taken place. Anyway, secession created conditions in which the Confederate leadership had no choice but to embark on a crash program of industrialization. Had it done otherwise, Lincoln probably would’ve achieved his military goals much earlier in history.
The process of modernization is all about acquiring the tools necessary for cultural survival. It’s no more intrinsically ideological than was, say, a wall built around a Stone Age village to keep enemies out. Just as an agrarian Confederacy wouldn’t have been able to defend itself militarily and economically from the modernized powers, today’s mostly historically illiterate Southern populace lacks the ability to defend itself culturally from sophisticated adversaries. The weakness that must exist when there’s an absence of physical tools for cultural survival is the grinning evil fact staring Agrarianism straight in the face.
Many traditionalist thinkers seem to believe that Southern culture was/is uniquely handicapped in its inability to survive a process of modernization. On what concrete fact is this apparent assumption based? After all, the English, Dutch, German, Japanese, Northern, etc. cultural identities survived their respective transitions to advanced levels of development.

“Cultural survival is not about preservation, sequestering indigenous peoples in enclaves like some sort of zoological specimens. Change itself does not destroy a culture. All societies are constantly evolving. Indeed a culture survives when it has enough confidence in its past and enough say in its future to maintain its spirit and essence through all the changes it will inevitably undergo.” - Dr. Wade Davis

Musically, no. Lyrically, it's decent, but this kind of song was a dime a dozen 40 years ago. Popular with the right message, absolutely.

The song sucks. It sings about stuff we have complained about for years, but it does it in a crude way. The fact that people are eating it up is sad.

    • @Southern_Agrarian1930

@factsoftheconfederacy7151 it's a good song, but it needs a touch of Hank Williams, Jr., or Waylon Jennings sound.
