    It’s forgivable because it’s only a clip, but the clip fails to mention that the brine pools are very hot, highly concentrated collections of methane, sulfuric acid and anoxia. Due to the high salinity, about 4-5x greater than the surrounding sea, an animal’s cells quickly lose water from osmosis, causing osmotic stress. Some animals, including those seep mussels surrounding the pool, have a symbiotic relationship with bacteria that oxidizes sulfides and methane. Animals like the eels are attracted to the food supply, and are subsequently killed for any carelessness.

      Anoxia is a condition or state, not a compound. The term you're looking for is anoxic water.

      It's a cruel world. But the reality is, even if they were capable of helping the other, that would only cause that eel to become more brazen and careless because it would probably figure another eel would just help it out. They figured this out by drowning mice. Let a mouse nearly drown but save it last second and put it back in the water and it will have hope you'll save it again. It was a disturbing experiment, to say the least.

      The creator of spongebob confirmed that the island you see in the opening credits is based of the real life bikini atol, where in the 1940s several nuclear tests were carried out. So every weird thing in spongebob like fire under the sea can be explained by radiation

    I Think its all about osmosis. there is a high concentration of salt to water in the brine, therefore it is more dense than normal sea water and that is why it sinks.
    Fish, such as the eels, need a stable amount of water (isotonic) in and out of the body. since there is a high water potential (more water) in the eels than the brine (more salt to water) water moves from a high water potential to low water potential.
    this leaves the eels with less water stability in the body, which is why they suffer toxic shocks because water is leaving the body and osmosis is passive (doesn't require energy) and so water moves dangerously out of the eels' naturally.I am currently doing A-Level Biology

    • @bob1112001
      @bob1112001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But then what about the "toxic" shock. I think the toxic shock could be due to diffusion. Since your explanation also fits in perfectly, both the processes are occuring. But I guess the reason for the electric shock is diffusion of highly concenrtated salt solutions.

    • @gotfan7749
      @gotfan7749 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Bo666y toxic shock Is not electric shock...it's bcoz of accumulation of toxins in body...

    • @TealiaAida
      @TealiaAida 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I doubt that the outer membrane of the eel could allow for osmosis. I think its got to do with the breathing of the brine water (through the gills) that brings in the toxic shock.

      @kevinfortin8240 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Niel Boshoff Animals (Marine life) deep underwater don't see light all that much, so they are practicly blind. What keeps them from being completely blind is the ability they aquire from being deep in the ocean. And that is glow in the dark body parts, so practicly bioluminesense. And they can see that bright light glow under the ocean that attracks them which is how most of those fish hunt their prey. Sharks are the same in some way, they are actually blind so if you shine a flashlight in their eye it wouldn't do anything to it, becuase sharks don't use their eyes to hunt they use their senses of movement and sound. Their is tons of videos on youtube showing this and explaining it, while some creatures can see light and are atrackted to it some don't see it at all. Also this is a good video to show case a game called "Subnautica" and how the ocean is in that game compared to our ocean it's pretty amazing and great game
