I'm not crying, you are ! omg that was so bittersweet to watch, i was definitely not ready for this. I can't put into words how grateful I am for you and this experience! I miss you so much ...💔
💕♥️💕 That is very nice Maddie! Eli has a strong spirit. A lovely disposition. A happy personality, and an energy, that never seems to stop. Hopefully you can get together again and do some more exploring! Eli and you are both very special people! Eileen 😊💕🇨🇦
Oh,, Maddie....I get it....I really do. You are so lucky to have this memory....these feelings. Some people cant even guess what you are talking about. As an 90 year old woman who has been happily married to my handsome Prince for over 70 years....my heart still beats to the memory of my childhood girlfriend, Paula. We were neighbors at 3 years old....later, teenage "besties". Later shared being "new Moms" together. Our whole lives we were Birthday Birthday Buddies.....always using a Birthday card to catch up the other one on babies, travels and family happenings. We drifted apart in our senior years....the cards or calls became less frequent....then stopped. We were over 70 when I got the last phone call from her. "I'm dying of cancer....I need you in my life....now!" Our last days together were bonded with emails and phone calls.....until they stopped forever. Your love for your friend is so touching....your video made me cry.....made me feel the pain of loneliness once again. With that, though.....comes the sweet memory of one of my greatest loves. Thank you for this gift today. *Recliner Babe*
Ugh omg what a BEAUTIFUL yet heartbreaking post. Just absolutely beautiful. What a relationship!!! What great memories. So touching. Thank you for sharing ❤️
I’m glad you could go to your mom’s place. It is beautiful. It is rare to find someone who becomes a friend instantly and that friendship doesn’t diminish over time. It grows. I hope you, and we, get to see her again!
Friendship's come and go , soulmates will last a lifetime ! . What you have found and enjoyed together , is what makes life worth living , best wishes to you both :)
What a beautiful friendship you both have and I hope it's not the last we see of you and Elli. And Elli maybe your own YT channel so we can see what you are up to. Take care both of you.
1. Love!!! your mom's cinematic turn! Haha! Makes me happy:) and she is beautiful. 2. Although your van journey is the initial reason i began watching you, you, and how you see the world and people, is why i stayed. 3. Whatever you do, whenever, on youtube or not, i wish your life only grows in richness and love. 4. You taught me, someone who is much older than you, so very much about courage, relationships and seeing the beauty in the world. Looking deeper, closer. I am truly very thankful to you. 5. All love to you and Ellie
Ok, this one had me tearing up! When you said that saying goodbye felt jarring, I knew exactly what you meant by that because it felt jarring to me when I had to say goodbye to the close friends I made during my stay in France. At least you will be able to stay in touch with each other, something that is much easier to do today than it was back in the 80s. This was a beautiful video, Maddie, in so many ways. Love and peace to you and Elli.
Bye Elli! 💝 I have so loved all your adventures sharing with all your friends! They have all become apart of you Maddie, clearly so hard the bittersweet of sharing our souls with one another and parting, making our lives together beautiful. 💝💕💜💗💖🐾
In another lifetime, I spent 3-4 months on the road with an opera company. I did that for a decade. Your video reminded me of the intense relationships formed and the pain of saying goodbye to such special people. I feel for you. Sending warm thoughts to you.
That was really beautiful! I was crying at the end and I've never seen your videos before but this was so intimate and you both are such lovely people. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Maddie, that farewell message for Elli really broke me to tears. I can feel how much her presence meant to you during your travels together. What a great friendship! Take care Maddie. I'm sure you'll both meet again. 🙏😍👍
Very moving..touching. Yes we all vicariously traveled with you in the van...hope my snoring didn't keep you awake 😅 l think l mentioned in a comment on an earlier video that l exchange taught and lived in the UK for a full year. This reminded me of my last week....everything l did l realized would be my last. We made so many friends it was heart wrenching to say good bye. That was 43 yrs ago and l remember it like it was last week. Several have died the elderly woman commented on about her friend. I took tons of photos which l have but never looked at...strange?? No they are all in my head and heart. I'm 75 now with tons of grandkids and.1 great....you inspire me Mattie to take my little 6x10 RV cargo trailer out to boondock...perhaps a last big swig of life.😊😘
I cried. The greatest lesson of this video is recognizing that amazing things can happen once you open yourself up to possibilities. And rest assured, there are many more amazing adventures to come. Thank You for Sharing and Safe Travels.
Love you forever, Maddie. You will always be one of my most favorite and cherished Content Creators. I am always happy for your happiness, and am so thrilled that we all are able to continue following precious Elli and you i. Germany. You are such a treasure. 😊❤️😊
This was beautiful Maddie! I feel Ellie will be back. She left her heart in San Francisco. Wink😉 wink😉 A deep friendship was made. Glad you are taking a little time for you and look forward to seeing in your next video. Peace✌
Ok Maddie, I guess you'll need to travel to Germany for a visit with Elli. You two traveled well together and became besties. It was great when the two of you camped and hung out with your other van friends. Awww, such sweet memories. I'll bet your mom is glad to have you back home for a bit. I sure enjoy it when our two girls come home for a visit with their families. Thanks for sharing the whale. That was such a treat!
Ooohhh...I loved this so much...now, it's your turn, Maddie...go to Germany and explore...explore...explore!!! 💗💗💗 PS...I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains!!!
Your mama is beautiful, I can see where you get your beauty, thank you for the close up experiences with San Fran, especially the Golden Gate bridge. So hard, even for me, to see Ellie leave. I have to admit it made even me cry.. You are so lucky to have had this experience, to live some time with your soul double. It's so hard to say good-bye, but hopefully it was really just "I'll see you later" Enjoy your family and your break from the road.
It was so precious to be a part of your adventure with Elli. Laughed and cried at every video. Just so heartwarming- all of your pure, child-like energy, enthusiasm for nature and discovery and friendship/ kindness/ sharing with each other. Wow. If all the content on cable and network was like this, it would have an all-pervasive, transformative effect. As always- thank you. :)
With tears in my eyes...good-bye Ellie. Thanks Maddie for sharing these last days, moments, time with us ending the journey you two have been on in the past two months. Being a CA gal from the central coast (San Luis Obispo) I loved that you shared your final times together in Monterey and SF. Getting home to family (and a wedding...) is a perfect rejuvenation! Much love...
It's so great to get back to all those houseplants that have been missing your care, & devotion. I had no idea she was traveling with you so far! , I wish you well in your next endeavor!
It's okay for a phase to be over. Solo van lifer comes and goes. It's fine to settle down at somewhere, make friends, have relationships, and maybe travel part time/weekend warrior, etc. as you like. Good luck.
This is amazing. What a beautiful experience. Two people, traveling independently and then finding each other and traveling together. So good. And that short monologue that Ellie did towards the end of the video was perfect. Thank you for sharing.
😭 goodbyes are so hard…yes the airport scene got me (especially when Elli dropped her pack to hug you) I hope you both reconnect and have more adventures together. Love you Maddie. Enjoy some family time. Kisses to Eliza 🐾💋💗
I love the variety in your channel. Like sometimes you are in the wilderness, and sometimes you explore the city and find restaurants and boutiques. It is important to do both. You need to get back to civilization after being in the woods or the desert for so long.
I’m so glad you got to spend time with and adventure with your friend. There is nothing like true friendship to help you learn more about yourself and help you grow. I hope Elli can come back soon and maybe you can show her more of this amazing country we live in. Safe travels 🚌
Just an amazing video, you can just feel the unspoken love, friendship and the void of missing a friend. No dry eyes here, full appreciation for all the fun filled adventures.
This is a very sweet, touching video. I too hated to see Ellie leave. I’m so glad you met and became soul sisters. I hope she gets to come back and visit you again or perhaps you will go visit her. Your mom is beautiful. Maybe you could introduce her to us. I really enjoyed the whales! Maybe someday I will get to see one in person.
just a comment about one of your earlier videos. I noticed that your moms place was in the same rural area that I grew up in. And our view was the same three hills in your video. One peak, two low mountains. My grandfather built the family home on Crest Drive and most of the roads between the J.C. and Town and Country. My nostalgia is tempered by your newer roots and the realization that even in my 70's everything old is new again ! Best wishes and stay on the road among friends as long as the travel muse is smiling !
One of the toughest things to do in life is to say goodbye to someone you care about. Thank you for sharing this experience. Hopefully having that connection with your friends will allow you to enjoy the previous connections you already had even more.
Good grief I picked a heavy episode to start watching you Maddie !!! You and Elli seem like two peas in a pod - what a fun duo ❤❤ thank you for sharing both of you !!! Makes me miss my german buddy Marc from outside Dusseldorf !! look forward to seeing more of your adventures Maddie !!
it's always hard when you get so close to someone and then get separated. i spent 24 years in the air force and went through this every few years. it's hard but real friends always have a connection. i've visited people i hadn't seen for years but it seemed like we were never apart. true friends are a gift, embrace them.
Good to have a change of pace no matter what you do throughout life. Always great to have some roots to go back to for a recharge! The future is full of adventure. Enjoy! 😎
Such sweet sorrow but never saying goodbye. You will still have each other everyday just tuning in a little different. FaceTime and TH-cam is awesome way to stay in touch. Good night Ellie and good night Maddie. See ya both someday soon.

You are so fortunate to be able to lead the life of a retiree, I am so looking forward to being able to do what you do, unfortunately I have about another 25 years of work before I’m able to, happy trails.
Glad you had that experience with Ellie. Sorry she had to leave. I hope she finds a sense of belonging again and you find the deep connection you had with her.

Parting is such sweet sorrow -- and I hope that you and Elli shall meet again on some tomorrow. This sort of friendship must not be allowed to wither ... Thank you for this vlog, Maddie. For all your vlogs, really. They're such a magical blend of silly and wise.
You two look like sisters. Ship your van to Germany and take us on a journey there. It'll be fun. Rest Maddie and enjoy your family. I am getting ready to start my road trip soon, can't imagine a full year of traveling without a break.
I see new reason that you should “confess” to hanging out of the van. And it is so cool that you have had the experience that would cause her departure to be a loss.
So much heart and love and sisterhood in this! Beautiful to witness 🥰 Connected to a lot of what you shared about spaces of being and change - as I write this I'm packing up my life to move out on the road or to slow travel and I'm feeling so many things. I admire how you've shared your process - It's been hard for me to make a video about what's going on and to articulate it both verbally and visually for TH-cam. Thank you for sharing and the inspiration. Sending love from Northern New Mexico - maybe I'll see you out on the road! 💛🌎
Hey Gabrielle! You write beautifully, so if you do wind up making videos, I’ve no doubt you’ll have some real beauty to share in your new adventure. 😊 Maybe see you out on the road! Feel free to reach out on Instagram and we can see if we’ll be nearby each other anytime soon.
I could really feel how gutted your friend was to have to leave Maddie, love the videos. I would love to live in a van and travel even for 6 months then come back to my home. Or maybe I would never want to give up the van life. Anyway, thanks for the content and you have given me several things to think about regarding my future. I must also add that you are beautiful, physically and spiritually and so is your van:) Greetings from Scotland!
All I can say is that you do what is best for you and your mental health and you don’t need to tell us anything you do about your life please stay safe and enjoy your life prayers and thoughts for you love this amazing and fantastic video love your number one Australia fan John xxxxx
I'm not crying, you are ! omg that was so bittersweet to watch, i was definitely not ready for this. I can't put into words how grateful I am for you and this experience! I miss you so much ...💔
any plans on coming back one day?
💕♥️💕
That is very nice Maddie!
Eli has a strong spirit. A lovely disposition. A happy personality, and an energy, that never seems to stop.
Hopefully you can get together again and do some more exploring! Eli and you are both very special people!

Hi Elli, It was great to have met you on TH-cam. Will you start your own TH-cam channel in Germany? That would be fun!
Elli, we will be looking for your videos next! Hope you enjoyed your time in the USA!

Come back Elli!! I have to admit I cried when Elli left... what a beautiful friendship you two have!💕
That’s so cute 🥺 I will be back !
Such sweet sorrow but never saying goodbye. You will still have each other everyday just tuning in a little different. FaceTime and TH-cam is awesome way to stay in touch. Good night Ellie and good night Maddie. See ya both someday soon.
Beautiful! Thank you.
The key to most people loving the traveling van life is that they don't have to do it. They have other options. They have family or friends when they can live the home life from time to time. They have financial resources. They could buy or rent a home but choose not to and prefer the van life as a temporary escape whether that is four days or 40 years.
I lived the van life in 1980-1981 and short term it was great visiting all the CA beaches, etc. My friend is STILL out there in the same VW van. Now THAT is someone committent to the van life.
He has no 'home base' but he is always welcome to land here anytime.
To save your roses from the deer, Motion Sensored Rainbird Sprinklers. Commonly used in WA state where I used to live.
Your houseplants are so beautiful. I love your monstera alba.
I haven’t been to San Francisco for a few years but the amount of vegan restaurants and bakeries was such a treat.
We have a Loving Hut nearby here too.
Tearing up the entire video! I hope Elli comes back to the states soon.
It's always sad to say goodbye to a heart friend. ❤
Yoooooo how are your videos so mellow and relaxing to watch. I loveeee the way you edit.
Great video Maddie!
Don't be sad, Maddy! Ellie will be back!🙂
Those carved ducks look amazing.
They are incredible! My grandparents were so talented. ❤️
'two ways can sometimes make one, that's stronger than either alone, so dancers join hands for the two way waltz but take all the steps on your own...'
That was beautiful Maddie
Okay now let's all watch her videos over from the start! 😁😀
This was a very beautiful video!
Loved Elli hope she comes back to visit
I watched the Guatemala video and loved watching the girls' trip adventure. How serendipitous to meet Elliie there, and wow what a great friendship. My father grew up in SFO and I used to live in San Jose so it was great watching my old stomping grounds. I felt sad watching you say goodbye to your dear (fast) friend/sister, and I hope you all meet up again soon. You guys are TWINS! All the best going back to solo van living. I hope you and Eliza have a smooth transition. Oh and your Mom is gorgeous! :)
Parting is such sweet sorrow -- and I hope that you and Elli shall meet again on some tomorrow. This sort of friendship must not be allowed to wither ...
Thank you for this vlog, Maddie. For all your vlogs, really. They're such a magical blend of silly and wise.
So sweet ❤️
I am glad you had the experience and I am glad you had us along.
You two look like sisters. Ship your van to Germany and take us on a journey there. It'll be fun. Rest Maddie and enjoy your family. I am getting ready to start my road trip soon, can't imagine a full year of traveling without a break.
This was beautiful Maddie! Hope to see more videos of you guys together.
I've never met Elli, but now I miss her too.
Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful story and Eli looks like your long lost twin.
What a awesome video, this video gave me chills, what a beautiful friendship, 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I see new reason that you should “confess” to hanging out of the van. And it is so cool that you have had the experience that would cause her departure to be a loss.
For every goodbye, there’ll be a hello again along soon enough.
True Friends are a gift.

I was born in The Presidio and grew up in SF. Nice to see you both enjoy The City so much. 🌿
