I love the video from the Grand Canyon. Sometimes you get the best pictures when you do something crazy, like drive in the dark and hike in the freezing cold to see a sunrise.
Maddie, I had the same problem about 12 years ago when I moved to Southern New Mexico with rabbit's and other little critter's climbing up into my engine compartment to keep warm on my 2009 Ford SportTrac. The first suggestion was to put color blinking lights (LED) in the engine compartment to scare off the critters. My VET confirmed this will do nothing to scare off unwanted friends...:) The second suggestion was to spray all the wiring with rodent poison! Yikes! I'm not good with that idea at all. The third suggestion has worked for over 12 year and didn't kill any of our furry friends. Simply collect some of your urine in a spray bottle and have at it on your wiring...:) Simple and natural deterrent, Give it a try...:)
YAYYYYY!!! Please don't stop sharing your van life! I love watching your videos. I feel so peaceful watching your videos even when you go through challenges. You handle challenges so gracefully.
Nice crystal find. My best finds are in the clay. The crystals will run in a vein standing vertically on a crumbling base of quartz in the clay. Sometimes the clay will turn from red to tan, yellowish gray where the quartz crystal vein runs through the red clay. If you find a cluster of crystals attached to a base, dig around for the vein.
Congratulations on being back in your home! Thank you for the inspiration to live life to the fullest, to be connected to the earth, to be a good friend, and to be grateful. I have been reading some of the books I see on your shelf. Bright Blessings
Great update. Few information for you. If a cold freeze comes, not only drain water but both ends of the water pump Must be disconnected to let water in the pump drain. If you don’t, pump will crack and when you first turn on pump alway check for leaks. Second: Strobe light is good. There is an herb that works well also. Because you camp in wilderness, you should mice proof your interior. All vehicles have a huge hole for mice to enter. It’s the AC outside vent hole. In modern vehicles it has no use. Plug it up. If you don’t they will enter and live in your dash. One day you turn on the fan and catch one in the cage and the fan will sound horrible. You just killed a mouse. Now you have to get it out. But worse part is mice will eat wiring in your dash. Hope this helped. When you are in Flagstaff again there is an amazing Indian restaurant name Delhi Palace. Great all you can eat lunch. You will love it. Lastly before next winter if you want a diesel heater installed, come visit. (PriusLife Nomads Off Grid Community)
Fun! I used to do that in Maine. All the pine forests are great for lots of quartz varieties. I’ve found beryl, garnet, tourmalines, & amethyst. The beryl is really soft. So hard to get out without cracking it, because it’s usually found embedded in granite. So is garnet, but it’s hardier. I’ve managed to get whole garnet crystals out of granite, but never beryl. I always cracked it. After 4 or 5 really valuable crystals got ruined, I stopped trying for them. Better to let someone else have them, than bust them up. The streams there have lots of Jasper varieties too. They are so pretty too! There’s rock shops in every county in Maine it seems. This video brought back lots of fun memories. Thanks for sharing! And so glad you got you van back!! Happy journeys!
Home back just awesome. What a great opportunity to be able to find precious stones with another TH-camr. And, to find a purple your first day, just can't get any better. Stay warm and have a great weekend.
Congrats on getting your van/home back. Don't give up on cold snowy days, sooo nice to be outside during a snow while the flakes float down around you, so peaceful. You should think of wrapping your pipes with pipe insulation, it really works. Install a diesel heater and run it low enough for the plants and pipes, worth every penny. Last bit of advise, I bought a heated vest that's powered by a usb battery pack, wear it under your coat and you're all set, not cold anymore, watch all those sun rises warm. Take care and stay safe.
First I would like to apologize for my initial comment a few videos back, if you took it the wrong way? Anyways yet another awesome video and I had no idea you can just dig up crystals like that!! Thats so amazing!! Those Rid A Rats work great!! I lived in a house for 12 years which I just sold and moved out of about 8 months ago and the rats from the surrounding area kept chewing up my vehicle wires and I installed one of those devices. It seriously stopped the rats like overnight BUT eventually they chewed the wire to the Rid A Rat and then setup shop in the other side of the engine bay. I know those things are expensive but I would definitely recommend buying a second one and have one on each side of the engine bay just in case one unit fails. I just posted a video with me heading to Quartzsite, AZ to get away from that winter storm!! I didn't really mention it in the video but the first few seconds of the video shows me heading south away from those dark winter clouds haha.
Oh Maddie I missed u - great to b back home I bet - I too have been watching Sarah and her travels actually all three of u - Sarah and Anna have been amazing to watch and u have inspired me so much I’m thinking about van life - it’s never too late I’m 72 - anyway I enjoyed this video - I love that purple crystal that u found. Stay safe have fun and enjoy. 💕💕🙏🙏❤️❤️
WOW, Glad You Got your Home back, RATS? I have never heard of them making a home in a vehicle that is always on the move. Most I have found have been in ones that have been sitting for a long time! WOW.. I LOVE the Sun Rise! Its is NOW ON MY BUCKET LIST! "among a few other things"... Love Your travels!!! The Crystals are a nice find! FUN TIMES!!! I have done this myself, and found them by a super big WOOPS! A Hole area full of Quartz.. As for Using Wooden sticks, Go to The Hobby Store, they sell wooden tools and such for Clay Working, These May work for that kinda stuff! SO MUCH FUN!! GREAT VIDEO! INJOYED IT!!!
I’m glad you are no longer homeless and it was nice that you could visit a friend and stay in a house. You and Sarah had a great time together and made a great crystal haul! I enjoy seeing you happy and wearing that smile!
Oh yay you met Sarah! This makes me so happy, I watch her channel too. Hope you found an abundance of crystal on your dig! And Congrats on getting your van back - I hope it stays rat free foreverrrrrr 💜
The darn bloops get me every video😁 So cool you have your van back. The crystal hunt was rather in interesting. Gracias as always . Keep rocking it and rolling safe on the roads.
Great to see you back in your van....and the return of your smile !!!! And now you have another van lifer on your friend's list, and a new hobby/interest with the crystals.....looks like your right back on track again....Travel safe and stay well.
How exciting!! I love crystal hunting. Some of the ones you guys found were so clear! And you even found some amethyst (amethyst is one of my favorite stones). What a fun video! Congratulations on being back on the road and thanks for sharing with us!!
I am sooooo glad you got your home back!!! I am glad you took us along to the Grand Canyon, beautiful isn't? I live in Arizona and we go to the Canyon every three years or so. The purple ones are probably amethyst.
Digging for crystals looked like a lot of fun. I liked when you commented that you were the first humans to set eyes on them. That kind of thing amazes me.
Another great video. My water only froze one this winter in my tent. When I get my van, the Grand Canyon is my 1st destination choice. Also, crystal hunting looks like something me and my daughter can do.
Glad the plants are doing well......😊Also beautiful stones u found...... Though most of all....... The best treasure was to have such a instant connection with another human being....... It's not always as easily done....... Very happy for u both !!!!! Much peace n happiness to you always !!!! I love ur video's...... Thanks for sharing with us !!!!! ✌💞😊
You have your van back. You have a new van lifer friend to hunt crystals with. Smiles and laughter have returned. So good to see all is well in Maddie's world once again. Gotta teach Elisa to help dig for crystals. Then again maybe she's not one who likes getting dirty.
Congrats on getting your wheels back! Rodents don’t like the smell of mint. So you might want to spray a mint scent in areas around the wheels and engine on occasion. Roll on!
I'm 'caretaker' to a lot of crystals in my home and work with them every day. They're all really special to me. But I've never had the privilege of digging for my own pieces. I hope that I'll be able to experience that myself one day. Congrats on getting the van back! 💐
Great you have your van back, lathe crystal hunting is amazing and didn’t know you found them in the ground I thought they where mined, brilliant vlog, take care and safe travels 🙏🏻❤️
Catching up with you here! You have some interesting friends with whom you have some great times! Glad your van is back in working order. Safe travels!
@ 1:59 You can also buy peppermint oil or dilute some peppermint extract with water in a spray bottle from the $ Tree to spray on the engine to prevent rats and mice. However, if your fuse box is located under the hood, make sure it is properly covered. You don't want to spray those. Anything else would be just fine. Mice and rats don't like peppermint. Consider this as regular part of maintenance like cleaning windows or washing the van. Also, if you are gong to stay stationary for an extended time you can always prop your hood open. Rodents view engine compartments as a shelter. It's warm, dry and safe. They can EASILY build a nest. They do this with outdoor BBQ grills left outside and covered.
The crystal hunt was very cool see you dig them up and clean them to really see your crystal hunting crystal show it’s beauty. Glad you got you van home back. Thanks for sharing
Happy you have your home back!! 🎉🎉 and wow on the crystal dig! You guys found so many beautiful ones! And yes after filling in backyard holes from my dog I was happy to see that you guys filled the holes back in! 👍🏻❤️😂
Happy to see you got your van back . When my truck was breaking down last year it was so stressful. Have a good day. Love your show and the music helps me relax. -Thomas-

Of course I came to your channel a year late. I found it through Mariah Alice's channel and much as I did with her channel, am watching yours in order of which you post it. I am certainly glad you got your van back. But my goodness I wish you had some kind of heater in your van! But certainly I'm happy you don't subject yourself, Eliza and the plants to such cold and care for all of you by stating in a heated house. I always wanted to hunt for crystals! I’m not exactly sure where you girls were but I know Arkansas has a but load of different kind of crystals! You should get a Chinese diesel heater for your van. They are cheap and they work really good. Be safe 💖
A purple one jumped up with you 💜 Amethyst and pretty crystal's! Energy everywhere and I hear the BF hang in these places because of the energy. How awesome and I remember Sarah and her bird was awesome, I cried so hard, 😭 glad you are back in the van ! Hugg's from Texas 💜
100% recommend peppermint oil spray and keeping your hood up when in areas where this is an issue (like Arizona). I did a ton of research and found that this was the only documented f'real deterrent. A lot of that other junk is useless.
So glad you got your van back. We’ve had rat issues with wire damage too. It was very expensive to repair. Now we put moth balls and dryer sheets in the engine that seem to help. The quartz crystals were beautiful! What do you do with them from here?
I've been told that if you spray Simple Green around the wheel opens and in the engine compartment it will help keep mice and rats out. I do this when I'm in the desert and so far haven't had a problem.
Something that I have found that works to keep mice and rats out of your vehicle engine compartment, is spray it with cheap perfume. The kind you would get at Walgreens! As a woman, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. Rodents are very sensitive to smell, that’s how they get around. They don’t like the smell of cheap perfume anymore than you do. Spraying this in my engine compartment has kept them out for the last five years. It’s a very cheap and effective alternative to everything else. Do it at least once a month when your boon docking.
omg it’s so cool to see you in flagstaff! i just graduated from NAU and it’s truly so beautiful up there! rlly cool seeing you explore AZ, i’m a big fan you have such a genuine and sweet personality !
Nice, I am watching for a couple months now, love your style and how you film. I hope that in the future you make them langer because when watching then i find myself calming down and before I totally relax then the video is over. Not a bad comment..i really want to see more so that is why i am saying this to you 😙😶
Let us know how the rat led thing works out! Seems like a weird way to do it... But i guess they don't like light. Huh.... lol. Hope it works! Don't forget to change the battery in it often!
The Crystal hunting was so much fun to learn about!! I never even knew it was a thing! So cool!
You should learn about mud fossils. That’s real geology.
I love the video from the Grand Canyon. Sometimes you get the best pictures when you do something crazy, like drive in the dark and hike in the freezing cold to see a sunrise.

This is a wonderful video - one of your best. Thanks for sharing. Glad your van is back in ops.
Glad you got the van back - and thanks for sharing these awesome adventures (sunrise at the GC and the crystal dig)
YAYYYYY!!! Please don't stop sharing your van life! I love watching your videos. I feel so peaceful watching your videos even when you go through challenges. You handle challenges so gracefully.
I'm so glad they talked about what they were thankful for because sometimes we forget to do that in life!

Sarahhhhhh! I love her. I've been following her forever too.
Hi from the UK. It's been great getting to know you through your videos. You're having an amazing adventure on the road..keep posting!
Catching up with you here! You have some interesting friends with whom you have some great times! Glad your van is back in working order. Safe travels!
Omg amazing! I use crystals in my work and loved this so much!!! 💜
@ 1:59 You can also buy peppermint oil or dilute some peppermint extract with water in a spray bottle from the $ Tree to spray on the engine to prevent rats and mice. Wow! I am crazy for rocks and crystals. What fun!
Happy to see you got your van back . When my truck was breaking down last year it was so stressful. Have a good day. Love your show and the music helps me relax.

Sending lots of calm beach love from Satellite Beach on the central east coast of Florida.
I'm on the fence...want to take my millionth trip westward, yet, once again, I'm soooo attached to the amazing Atlantic Ocean which I go in several times each day and realize how magnificent Mother Ocean is. Once I drive over the bridge, I do not have that daily loving healthy enchantment of the healthy mighty Atlantic Ocean to unite with...because I crossed the bridge...gone.
So...I'm glued to the fence and am having concerns. Yet, the weather simply gets way too hot n humid for my minimalistic vanlife.
I'm a weather migrating Vagabond vanlifer...20.8 years now.
You two seem so perfect for caravaning vanlife sisters! Sending you lots of beach love💦🌊🧜♀️💦🌊🎶

The Grand Canyon is always incredible but the sunrise pictures you take of it are unique because they have a real eyewitness aspect to it not doctored by photo enhancement and thus the experience becomes your own too.
You say Sarah has a channel too? Might be good to watch it. So nice to see people get involved in experiencing life rather than being cogs in the wheels of the rat race, looking for crystals and just being in the moment. People like you and Sarah have much to teach people and maybe that purple crystal symbolizes this. The whole crystal episode is amazing from start to finish.
That's what it's all about. Discovering self and life not being slaves to the Combine or the Machine.
12:40. Just how about that line of saguaros on the hilltop? Eh? That's iconic!
Oh, I laughed so hard when I saw you two out there digging in the dark still. Such a cool experience!
Glad you got your van back, Maddie ))
I have the same type device under my hood the past year part-timing. Can’t prove a negative, but no mice so far…
Peppermint oil. You can get it through online Walmart by the gallon. I live in the desert! This works and it's not toxic.
Yay.... I love Sarah's channel.. Great video
Wow! That is so interesting Maddie! I love these videos. I learn new things. Looking at your crystals, I think I have a really large one. It sits in my bird bath. It was at my house when I moved in. I live in a very rocky area, so there is no limit on the number of rocks in the ground. About 90 km N of me, people are always digging there for different "rocks". I had no interest, but a friend goes all the time. I need to check it out too!
Thank you for posting!
Glad you have your Van back! Have a great week!

I am sooooo happy you got your van back. I felt so bad when I found out there was a problem and it was not working. Stay safe, stay blessed
I always wanted to hunt for crystals! I’m not exactly sure where you girls were but I know Arkansas has a but load of different kind of crystals! You should get a Chinese diesel heater for your van. They are cheap and they work really good. Be safe 💖
California has places to find tourmaline, emeralds in North Carolina! Actually, NC has many different types of minerals and some are rare.
Please learn about mudfossils! It will totally change your life.
Thank You Maddy, I just added that to my amazon list for my van. Although i am not living in it yet i still would feel better about having this in it.
Maybe she can stop the rats from chewing more things??? With the crystals....I'm just joking!!
That looked like so much fun.
That was fun to watch!
Thank YOU most of all!
ahhh so glad you have ur van back!
I've been told that if you spray Simple Green around the wheel opens and in the engine compartment it will help keep mice and rats out. I do this when I'm in the desert and so far haven't had a problem.
Beautiful 😍 is what came to mind and peaceful.
Awesome news!
Super cool! Thanks for sharing
omg it’s so cool to see you in flagstaff! i just graduated from NAU and it’s truly so beautiful up there! rlly cool seeing you explore AZ, i’m a big fan you have such a genuine and sweet personality !
My goodness I love your videos so much!!!
Nice, I am watching for a couple months now, love your style and how you film. I hope that in the future you make them langer because when watching then i find myself calming down and before I totally relax then the video is over. Not a bad comment..i really want to see more so that is why i am saying this to you 😙😶
Love rock hounding! Really like your channel, your like a hallmark card.
Let us know how the rat led thing works out! Seems like a weird way to do it... But i guess they don't like light. Huh.... lol.
Hope it works! Don't forget to change the battery in it often!
Yaaay, a new Maddie video 😻
and so exciting you and Sarah met! Two of my favs 🙏🏻
Hi Maddie, you certainly look to be having an “OMAZE”ing time searching for crystals.
Little critters usually don't like mint. I live in the country and planted mint all around my house. No more trouble with mice/packrats
Thank you joy❤
Nice for you to have your home back. Rats and mice of all kinds are a big problem for vehicles in the wilds of the western states.
It's not the content for me..... its how it makes me feel. Strong, beautiful and determined - you seem pure. Finding another is hard.
Yes we live in Az. and the rats are bad we sprinkle peppermint oil all over the engine it works.
Hey, that looked like a good week!
I think that is so cool that you went crystal hunting.
Another great and relaxing video 👍
Love the crystals! If you speak to Anna (uncharted), let her know she is missed…and prayers continue for her mom.
