ps music is 10 out of 10 but full soundtrack is way better every season has at least 5 singed songs so its good music in almost every episode only downside is writing sometimes but music choreography of fights (done by monty oum until season 3 when he died in 2015) and character designs are spectacular its 8 volumes 12-13 episods each with varied lenght sometimes 8 minutes sometimes 30 or hour
and yeah openings are done by one duo of peaple

RWBY started as a passion project by Monte Oum. The budget was very small to start with. As the series got more popular and progressed, the animation quality was able to improve. All the songs done for the show (not just intros, every season has full soundtracks) are done by Jeff Williams and his daughter Casey Williams. When I say the songs were just done by those two, I mean that Jeff does all the writing, composing, all the instrumentation, and backup vocals and Casey does the primary vocals. Jeff Williams enjoys breaking music norms in alot of his music which can be really interesting and cool most of the times but can be jarring for some people on some songs (like the last opening for you).

Jeff Williams has put a lot of good music into RWBY, but I'm not a fan of the entire soundtrack.
The first of Monty Oum's videos I ever saw was Dead Fantasy. Many people probably knew of Monty from Haloid, but I was never really a fan of either franchise so I didn't spend my TH-cam days looking up videos about them. I actually think I found out about Dead Fantasy based on a piece of artwork by Monty. "Twilight Princess", I think.
As to the animation style of the early seasons, I'm pretty sure no one really "preferred" it, but accepted it because Monty's name was on the project. After his passing and with a bigger budget, the show gained cleaner animation but the fight scenes became noticeably generic by fan standards.

  • @MrFelblood
    @MrFelblood 2 ปีที่แล้ว +529

Series creator Monty Oum built his career and reputation on his fight choreography and kinetic animation style. Especially in the first few season, there would be jarring shifts between the fight scenes that he gave personal attention to, and the more static "talking scenes" that were handled mostly by the B unit.
After Monty passed away, the the team has really struggled to maintain the same levels of over the top action and believable flow that made him a unique genius. He was one of the finest creative minds of my generation, taken from us too soon.
Edit: He started at Rooster Teeth choreographing the fight scenes where Tex beats up the rest of the cast, so if you recall those scenes fondly, you will probably enjoy a show dedicated to more of that.

So much potential, thrown away because of writers and directors with ego issues, dismissing any and all criticism to label it hate because it made it easier to ignore it, pushing the animators to constantly work crunch hours for pennys, an obsession with trying to push narratives for certain agendas without really trying to expand on them or actually have a discussion.
You are totally within your rights to enjoy it, but honestly season 3 is pretty much when it stops being fantastic, which sucks cause that was also when the writing was trying to develop more.

You should watch all 4 RWBY trailers. Even on their own, they're really cool. If you ever watch this series, it could be fun if you included your brother. No doubt if you tell him, he'll convince you. There's a lot to like. It starts off lighthearted with badass fights through out and really short. The story has ups and downs, but it does get darker and longer episodes overtime. See if you can watch it with subtitles, the songs are tailored to seasons.
Rooster Teeth is pretty lenient with reactions, as long as it's not the newest episode out, you can post them and message them about it. They actually love seeing fans reactions.

RWBY has been around for about a decade, the four trailers coming out starting I want to say Fall of 2012, and the first season starting about a year after the "Red" trailer came out, the animation improving with every season they released. It is definitely a fantasy anime that goes back and forth between light hearted, action packed, and tragic. The animation change you call out at 9:55 comes after Monty Oum passed away. He created the show and led fight scene choreography until his death during production of season 4. He specialized in an animation engine called Poser which very few other people know how to use well. Without him there was no reason to stay in Poser, so they moved to the more industry standard Maya engine from season 5 onward. Fights took a dip without him, but the newer engine allowed the others to do more.

Oh, I adore RWBY, thrilled that you reacted to this. RWBY came out in 2013 and has had 8 volumes so far with a volume 9 coming in 2023. It started out from very humble beginnings, with a small team and low budget and episodes rarely being longer than 10 minutes if we were lucky. But the world and characters, not to mention the excellent fight scene animations, got a lot of attention and they just got better as the show went along. Eventually, the series got so popular that it got an actual anime studio to make their own version, called RWBY: Ice Queendom, which released this year and is more of an alternate universe fan fiction with a high budget than any official part of the RWBY universe. Tragically, the original creator passed away during the production of Volume 3, so he never got to see the full extent of his brainchild's success.

Everything after season 3 doesn't really feel dark though. It feels like someone who doesn't know how to write a dark story inadvertently writing a comedy.

There is no serious mutilating trauma, No existential dread, No cosmic horrors, No body horror. No psychological horror. No exploration into the dark corners of the human mind.
Many of the RWBY deaths don't have weight and could come across as comedic with a few edited in sound effects.

So your telling me Pokémon has darker scenes than **SPOLIERS** people being killed in front of their children via building crushing, people having to "deglove" one of their own limbs, people being stabbed multiple times and dying or just straight up ran through and dying, people having their eyes slashed out, people being decapitated, admitted child murder, a maniac massacring a room full of innocent civilians, people literally screaming for their lives to be spared just to be brutally killed, someone shot nearly point blank in the dome, another shot and exploaded, people being transformed into monsters while fully conscious and some pretty horrifying implications all throughout if you take half a second to think. Some happened off screen but we heard everything, some on screen but we didn't see everything. I Don't remember the last time Ash had to mercy kill Misty or James from team rocket going to massacre a political rally.

There are already spoilers and toxicity in the comments, be ready!
    Questions you asked:
-RWBY is not visceral very often, but touches on dark themes (read that as death and dismemberment, alcoholism, depression, and more) nearly every season.
-RWBY is currently 108 episodes long with a new season coming out "early 2023" and talk from RT that they still plan another season after that one.
-Casey Lee Williams is the singer for all OP and a lot of the OST. Her father composes and plays guitar for most of it as well. She also sings and writes in the band "Ok Goodnight", I recommend listening/reacting to "Awake" for some amazing vocal range.
You're about to see a VERY mixed set of opinions in the comments. RWBY has been a rollercoaster from the start. Everyone has something to blame for the things they dislike, but in reality as a show it's been enjoyable from start to finish for different reasons, like you said from the fighting, the aesthetic, the music, more.

Worth mentioning, the 108 episode that are out so far are not all standard length episodes. Especially early in the series, it wasn't unusual for an episode to be only 5 or 6 minutes long. So 108 episodes isn't as long here as it would be for a normal series.

    Fun facts:
    1. Characters in RWBY are based on legends, fairy tales and historical figures.
    2. This series is by Rooster Teeth Productions which is located in Austin Texas. They're known for their original Series Red Vs Blue, a machima series based in the Halo game series.
    3. There is an official RWBY anime which takes place before season/volume 2. It retells season 1 in a few episodes, makes certain things clear, alter certain characters a bit, and adds in a series of events that could be considered canon but aren't.
    4. The series creator Monty Oum had died early into RWBY's life as a series. Causing one of the characters to get a new Voice actor and for the fight scenes to drop in quality for a while.
    5. The way the story had been progressing in the last few seasons had caused the fans to dislike a lot of it. Especially with how characters react to certain situations.
    6. Volume 9 will be coming out early next year. And so many hopes that it will be better than the last few seasons. But I rather set my expectations low so I'm not disappointed by how bad it could be.

He's done it ! RWBY openings reaction ! We said it you'd love the songs 😉
Like you suspected it, openings, endings and all the ost have been made by Jeff Williams and his daughter Casey Lee Williams (she was 13 when the series started in 2013), with sometimes the participation of her mother Sandra "Sandy" Lee Casey and the rapper Lamar Hall.
Yes, you spotted it correctly, the graphics of the series improved a lot for Volume 4 (seasons are called Volumes and episodes, Chapters) because they changed the animation software from Smith Micro's Poser to Autodesk Maya. And the combat choreraphies are excellent from the start, i'm sure you'll get into it really quickly ^^
For the scenario, it's so complex it's impossible to tell without spoiling the story, but to say things short, we follow the adventures of Ruby Rose, a 15 years old teenager who wants to be a huntress, a keeper of peace and a slayer of Grimms (the black monsters you seen in the opening), along with the friends and foes she's gonna meet during her journey. And yes, it become darker with each volume.
If you intend to react to the series, you must know two things :
    1) Rooster Teeth don't mind reacters, so even if your first reactions are striked by the YTbot, you just have to ask them to unlock the rights for you and thats good, so no need for filters or other anti-strike techs.
    2) In order to fully comprehend and apreciate the series, you'll have to watch it in a certain order : basically the release order. Which means you'll have to start by the Red, White, Black and Yellow trailers, during Volumes 2, 3 and 4 you'll need to check the World of Remnant shorts, and there is characters shorts before volume 4, 5 and 6. All of these little things are canon in the show.
Anyways, thanks for your reaction, I think I'll make an exception and go on your Twitch if you decide to react this show 😁

RWBY falls into the category of being probably more... PG-13, generally light hearted as a baseline tone, but it does include progressively darker elements as the story goes on.
RWBY is one of those series where I won't try to claim it as being the best thing ever, but it is generally very enjoyable (I'd say it is more enjoyable than it is good, if that makes sense), though quality shifts a bit season to season.
It has some of the best fight scenes you will see in... well, anything.
As some others have commented - I recommend checking out the character trailers. They're excellent showcases of how great the combat scenes are.
In regards to your question about the Japanese version, that is RWBY: Ice Queendom. It has a bit of a rapid synopsis of the first season, and then jumps into an original storyline that is nestled between the first and second seasons.

All composed by the same guy and about 90% of the songs (all the songs) are sung by his daughter. They don't really have outside music. However, Cassie did have her own band now, and even partnered with one of the voice actors from the show to create the band. Her vocal evolution has been amazing.
You should check out the trailers for RWBY (titled red trailer, white trailer, black trailer and black trailer).
The show itself is based around fairy tales.
It's awesome, you'd love it. And we'd all love to welcome you into the cult ( LOL).
To answer a few of your questions. The animation evolved as the series went on. The genre is hard to explain. It definitely has some darker aspects. However I'd categorize it under action fantasy?
The lyrics for every song is composed with a purpose. They say so much.
The general synopsis is for friends right to save the world. The series follows their journey thru the ups and downs.
Also, each episode started out at around 12 minutes each episode. As the series went on they got longer. It's an easy binge series.
I also don't know if it's still relevant, but I think Rooster Teeth was pretty easy going on the copyright for their episodes. You may not need to edit the reactions when you watch it.
Anyways. Good luck. Love your reactions.

The head for the show was Monty Oum, he started on youtube and made the best fight choreographies you'll ever see. RT hired him to make this series, his original creation, a reality. That indie animation developed as the show progressed from season to season. He passed away and they started to cut corners when it came to the combat segments. The rest of the show's team just didn't have his vision, talent, and attention to detail. I appreciate they continue on his creation and they were doing well on the story end. RWBY was first made roughly a decade ago by Monty Oum, animation savant who hand animated the first trailer and took a lead animator/director approach to the remaining trailers & first and second seasons, though tragically lost his life due to an allergic reaction in a routine surgery. Rooster Teeth, who Monty worked for, took up the rest of his project in his name (Monty had the entirety of RWBY from beginning to end planned out so the team could complete his vision) and has been going strong since. 99% if not 100% of the fan base has nothing but sadness and condolences for Monty as RWBY was his baby that he had to convince Rooster teeth to let him start up (Even with no context, look up "Tribute to Monty Oum" a short video of the man himself talking about his passions and fear that he will never finish his work. (I cry every time, everyone does.). Some people prefer the older style of animation, some people don't like the direction the show has gone in, some seasons are lighthearted, some get dark FAST. It definitely matures over time and is a must watch; anime style fights, funny humor, serious themes about destiny and coming of age. If you started a reactions series on it, Rooster Teeth has stated if you email them asking to do a reactions series, your free to post it in full, it's all(ish) on youtube already. :)

Hey welcome to your first step into RWBY! Hearing you call the main baddy “Medusa boob woman” was hilarious and rather succinct XD RT changed the animation software from Poser Pro to Maya in between volume 3 and 4, so from 4 on it’s a different style. The show is pg13, but touches on darker more serious themes in the later seasons as the stakes get higher and our protagonists grow. You did get one name right, Weiss is the girl in the white dress and hair and the “W” in RWBY. The title is an acronym for the four main characters!

  • @coltoniusmaximus

As far as the animation changes go, the original creator started out by creating the models using Maya software, and then adding them to Poser Pro, and the first 2 seasons were all done in Poser Pro. But after season 2, the creator died due to a failed operation after he had an allergic reaction. Afterwards, a team took over the project and touched up on their skills with the initial Maya software and animated the rest of the series using it, and every season they get better at using it. So each season looks like the animation quality goes up because it actually does lol

Hahaha this was a great video! So many places where I switched between "wow, that's prescient" and "lol that's hilariously wrong." I was worried you would get spoilers since they do drop Easter eggs in the openings, but I guess without having seen the show, it's hard to be spoiled when you don't know what's happened even a little. If you do end up watching, though, I'd highly recommend not revisiting the openers for later seasons. Once you get to know who characters are, later season openers will spoil plot from earlier seasons. Hope you watch and maybe even record your reactions!

The corny jokes spoken and unspoken. It's quite warming. Then there were the fight scenes. It's hard not to have a smile on while watching.

12:50 responding to your questions: the first 5 seasons were fairly tame, but seasons 6-8 got a lot darker. It is fairly family friendly, and most gore is replaced with rose petals and ash (an amazing choice imo) and a funny trope throughout the entire series is "It's also a gun" where basically every weapon has both a ranged and melee aspect to it. In the full version of opening #5(?), The Triumph theres a line that goes "Yeah i'm a girl but I'm also a gun" just referring to the trope.

Never expected you to react to RWBY. Its a pretty good series for a computer generated anime series. The intro to each series give hints to things that will happen during the respective series. Some of the songs from this series are amazing and covers a variety of music styles from ballads to hard rock/metal. Plus the main female vocalist, Casey Lee Williams, has a fantastic voice as you've heard. You should check some of the songs out, some I recommend are This Life is Mine, Caffeine and Red Like Roses part 1 +2 (theres avideo on TH-cam which combines the 2 songs).

  • @gorgarath

The amazing thing with the first 3 volumes, they were using Poser which is a bit more limited, but they made it work. Some really amazing animation, especially went Monty would go ham on the fight choreography. (They had some issues with some scenes where they would constantly be crashing the Poser engine.) Then they switched to using Maya which definitely seems to have upped the quality. But even starting with the original 2 trailers which were done completely by Monty by himself (with Jeff/Casey Williams doing the music) the animation has been great and gets better with each new volume.
All the music has been composed by Jeff Williams with Casey Williams singing almost all of it. (In some of the later seasons, they've had a couple of guest singers for a couple of songs.) Casey is credited as the vocalist for the series as well as the voice for the character Neo. In scenes where Weiss (yes, you've definitely heard that name from your brother) is singing, that's also Casey. If you want to check out Casey's band, that would be OK Goodnight.
If you want a taste for RWBY without actually committing to watching the series, you can watch the 4 trailers that Monty made to pitch the show to Rooster Teeth. The first 2 trailers were animated completely by Monty. The 3rd and 4th RT did give him some help. And while RT did greenlight RWBY, at first they basically told him, sure, you can go ahead and do your pet project in your own time as long as you keep doing Red vs Blue. But RWBY has been so consistently good that the budget kept going up, more people getting assigned to the team, etc. The shame is that Monty passed unexpectedly due to complications during surgery before they wrapped up the 3rd season. But his little pet project still lives on. Monty had a story to tell and they wrote the basics for the entire story before they started fleshing out the story and it changes here and there as someone comes up with a good idea. But it's still supposedly continuing on towards the end that Monty planned. (I forget, but I think they planned on 12 seasons? That number seems to be in my head and it could very well be wrong.)

Volume 8 is rock combined with jazz. It’s a VERY unique son because of it. There’s a bit of jazz influence on a few other song but volume 8 is very jazzy especially the chorus. Honestly it’s impressive how well both genres worked together in that song. Anyways that’s why it’s bizarre there aren’t any songs like this one. Also it’s my favorite because of how unique it is.

15:44 The music is primarily (95%) done by Jeff Williams (instrumentals) and his daughter Casey Lee Williams (vocals). A few other artists key in for certain songs, but the father-daughter duo kills it for the majority of the series!!

Always nice to see more people checking out RWBY :)
While many say anime HAS to be from Japan, I see it as just a style of art/animation/story-telling. Just because a style originates from a specific part of the world, doesn't mean others can't make something in that style as well. You wouldn't tell a painter they can't do Impressionism just because they're not French or that a singer can't do rap music because they're not American. If someone, no matter where they come from, wants to make an anime, they can make an anime.
I have no issue with people thinking otherwise, but the ones that always start complaining when someone calls it anime and start insulting them are the worst people to see filling comment sections.

*"Western anime" is a term for that.*
RWBY is much MUCH closer to anime than it is to western animated shows. So it's hard to grasp what the show is like if you call it an "American animated show" or "an anime-inspired-cartoon". I find "western anime" to be a good term for encompassing that while also separating it from actual anime. Like we all over the world outside US do with "American Football" and "Football". It's also much less of a mouthful than the myriad of different terms people tend to come up with trying to explain how "it's not an anime, but it also is just like an anime".

I am going to explain some things about RWBY, without getting into spoilers!
-RWBY is pronounced like Ruby(you've got that right)
-it's a anime style artwork show made in the US, it's spinoff, Ice Queendom, is a side story made in Japan. Rwby is and isn't anime.
-it's eight current volumes soundtracks have been composed by Jeff Williams with his daughter Casey Lee Williams as lead vocalist. There are occasional guest singers.
-The soundtracks slap and based on how you like the intros, you would like the soundtracks! (love them actually)
-RWBY fans are loyal, but there are also a lot of haters.
-Roosterteeth allows full reactions on TH-cam! All you must do is contact them and they will unban any reactions. RWBY reactions are very popular and often make channel ratings explode.
-RWBY is a light PG13. Low profanity, the worst sexual content is some cleavage and slightly suggestive shots. Some blood, death, and slightly darker topics are touched on. No worse than other PG13 movies and shows.
-As a RWBY fan, I would love to see you react to the show or at least some of the soundtracks. It's a great passion of mine and I think you will like it. Plot is pretty awesome, music slaps, and the fight animation is incredible. Additionally, RWBY carries Monty Oum's Legacy, so it holds a lot of significance in the hearts of those who appreciate his great work.
