Brandon Keyes you are a certified dumbass if you think Muay Thai is easy, you must think everything in the world is easy aswell because obviously you don't believe in practice
Proper Muay Thai will never be mainstream, the majority of fans would not enjoy it. Slow paced, narrative-based scoring, the factor of control, the gambling aspects etc. ONE’s version of Muay Thai is what people want to see, chasing knockouts and head hunting in small gloves with minimal clinch. I do hope more people give stadium Muay Thai a try though, the most unique combat sport in the world imo
I’d rather not see Muay Thai gain popularity in the states for fear of it becoming watered down by McDojos. Most of the country isn’t even aware that Taiwan and Thailand are two different countries.
It’s been done. Ajarn Chai Sirisute trained the Dallas Cowboys in Muay Thai in 1983 and used it as part of their conditioning. I guess as time went on they just decided that it didn’t help them win football games.
That's because Ajarn Chai isn't an (American) football player as well its not his culture, he like many teach Thai boxing as if someone is going to fight in the ring, they don't understand how to apply it towards a lifestyle that isn't Thai boxing. Peace
Never was interested in sports or excersise that much. Dabbled in some martial arts but then 8 years ago I started doing muay thai on a whim and it felt fucking AWESOME. I got lazy and haven't trained in like 3 years but I'm definitely gonna go back to it as soon as this corona shit gets to a point where people can live normally again.
Growing up and having no knowledge that Muay Thai even existed i was always naturally inclined to use my elbows and knees in a fight, discovering Muay Thai cemented that belief that when close range, use your elbows and slice em n dice em.
Like that Joe mentions football here. When I played football we had a stocky small guy from Thailand that was a Muay Thai fighter over there. Whenever an opposing teams lineman would play dirty we would put him in for a play. Ball snap, boom the guy hits the ground. Basically the Thai guy would throw a knee and drop the kid so fast no one could see. He would then tell him he's going back out, but if he keeps playing dirty he'll stay in. Great guy but crazy.
cause it doesnt work in UFC its MMA the clinch is too high and body is too tall, its just asking to be taken down from a wrestler. I train muay thai, been doin it for 6 years and i hate to dog on my on sport, but there are reasons to why MMA guys dont clinch like we do, they have different threats to worry about rather than just knees, elbows and being swept.
I took a few Muay Thai lessons and that shit is brutal. Only problem with me is having the funds to train. Got a buddy who trains out in North Hollywood Thai gym and he loves it.
my friend its all about the mindset. I pay over 1k a year for my MMA / Muay Thai Gym + equipment and its just good invested money. Invest in yourself and get in shape. Lethwei fighters get schooled by Muay Thai fighters. Just because headbutts are allowed does not make it better. There are muay chuerk events in Northern Thailand. Same thing. They are all the same. The thais on the other hand are brutally tough and very professional. Lethwei fighter vs Muay Thai fighter. Under chuerk rules. Thai wins. Both tough but when I see "lethwei" this or that I just think the person hadn't lived in the area or doesn't know Muay Thai or hasn't fought in Muay Thai. Idk I’ve seen lethwei matches and they definitely fight more brawlerish compared to mauy thai fighter who calculate their shots, since lethwei’s ruleset seems to favor the more aggressive fighter they don’t work much on their defensive, I definitely think Mauy Thai beats lethwei.
Very effective no doubt. But their flatfooted. They walk into punches, kicks, elbows...etc. :) If they had the footwork and movement of a western boxer too... No one talks about the aftermath of authentic Thailand rules MT match. The MT fights I saw as a kid when I was in HOng Kong...one fighter always left on a stretcher and it was never the MT guy. The damage these guys take. Nor does any one talk about the many who've died. Or the head trauma from the many elbows and knees taken in training and in the ring. Sometimes on the street.
@@WishIWasClever A decent boxer wouldn't be stationary. He should be hard to hit. And the MT buffer my boxer is using two extra works my weapons. Add his Robbie's my elbows, knees, hip toss. That's you're point???🤪 What I was saying was MT fighters would be even more effective if they weren't flatfooted. They wouldn't keep getting caught with these devastating leg kicks as much. Be a harder target
Footwork and Head movement? Head movement seems like a good way to get baited into a head kick. You slip my cross? Fake cross to roundhouse. You bob and weave? Knee to the face. Footwork yeah I completely agree, very important. But I've heard people talk about slipping in muay thai and bobbing and weaving.
@@AGC828 MT fighters don't fight flat footed. They fight light on the front foot to check kicks. Dutch kickboxers fight flat footed because they sit on their punches. Movement might be more applicable to them because they fight in the pocket. MT has an emphasis on kicks so it's more important to control the centerline because that allows you to control distance. Evasive lateral movement isn't as important in MT.
@@BootyBot They Airways appear that way to me. Like they're waking. Not"light on their feet" like a Western boxer... When they're fresh. Shrug. I highly disagree with the idea that the more weapons you add to a combat sport, the harder/tougher it is. I’m a 4x amateur Muay Thai champ in Georgia and maintain that boxing is the hardest and most dangerous combat sport. Same with MMA. The more paths of victory there are, the more that luck plays a factor over skill. I’ve seen dudes in MMA fights getting smashed from all sides, fall into a lucky armbar, and win. But it’s extremely rare that a dude will be consistently losing a boxing match and happen to get a lucky punch KO. If anything, 80’s American kickboxing and the guys from Chuck Norris’ World Combat League represented the highest level of kickboxing.

Brandon Keyes you are a certified dumbass if you think Muay Thai is easy, you must think everything in the world is easy aswell because obviously you don't believe in practice
@@Brotha00 you are a true dumbass. Go watch muay thai training and fick yourself
I started learning muay thai in quarantine. it's actually really fun
Muay Thai is the best and most complete combat sport.
Joe “it’ll be better for their brains” Rogan
get them kicking each other in the head, elbows and shit. you ever done DMT?
No joe "a buddy of mine" Rogan
Lmao when Joe elbowed the mic
I’d rather not see Muay Thai gain popularity in the states for fear of it becoming watered down by McDojos. Most of the country isn’t even aware that Taiwan and Thailand are two different countries.
i heard cm punk is a black band in muay thai
It’s been done. Ajarn Chai Sirisute trained the Dallas Cowboys in Muay Thai in 1983 and used it as part of their conditioning. I guess as time went on they just decided that it didn’t help them win football games.
That's because Ajarn Chai isn't an (American) football player as well its not his culture, he like many teach Thai boxing as if someone is going to fight in the ring, they don't understand how to apply it towards a lifestyle that isn't Thai boxing.
Peace
Ever since I saw Kickboxer, King of the Kickboxers and Angel Town as a teenager I liked Thai Kickboxing
I always respected Muay Thai. Those matches are crazy good.
Please please let me know if there’s more video like this joe talking about Muay Thai I need like 1 hour clip! The sport itself are so interesting
Yeah but Joe hardly knows anything about mt
Never was interested in sports or excersise that much. Dabbled in some martial arts but then 8 years ago I started doing muay thai on a whim and it felt fucking AWESOME. It got to a point where I wanted to go train every day. Never felt boring, never felt it was a drag. I got lazy and haven't trained in like 3 years but I'm definitely gonna go back to it as soon as this corona shit gets to a point where people can live normally again.
Did you go back?
Thanks Joe for respect and honor we Muay Thai Fighters. I wish you the best always. Sawadikap 🙏🙏🏿🙏🏻🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏾
Why are there so little comments here
Muay Thai scares people.

Muay thai matches are usually drawn out and theatrical because it’s meant for betting.
As a thai people i 100% agreed with you
And that’s sad.. I want Muay Thai to be something special in the mainstream. Cause it’s a beautiful art
Muay thaï living legend : Saenchai - Buakaw Benchamek 🔥🔥

Is Muay Thai legal in outworld?
Kickboxing in all its forms is the most exciting form of fighting to watch. Never understand why it doesn’t get over more in the US than it does
I train muay thai, trust me its not for u if u dont like being bruised on a regular and unable to walk
แรกๆมันก็มีเจ็บ แต่เมื่อสักพักร่างกายคุณแข็งแกร่งขึ้น คุณจะทนความเจ็บได้มากกว่า
Muay Thai, literally the most incredible sport in the world
It's crazy how little Muay Thai techniques people actually use in the UFC.
No one really utilizes the Thai clinch fully
cause it doesnt work in UFC its MMA the clinch is too high and body is too tall, its just asking to be taken down from a wrestler. I train muay thai, been doin it for 6 years and i hate to dog on my on sport, but there are reasons to why MMA guys dont clinch like we do, they have different threats to worry about rather than just knees, elbows and being swept.
Joe Rogan on moy Thai
I took a few Muay Thai lessons and that shit is brutal. Only problem with me is having the funds to train. Got a buddy who trains out in North Hollywood Thai gym and he loves it.
You know what it's called? I'm over in Glendale..
my friend its all about the mindset. I pay over 1k a year for my MMA / Muay Thai Gym + equipment and its just good invested money. Invest in yourself and get in shape. Just cut off one night out per month where you would waste 50 bucks on drinking and sign up for the gym instead. You will thank yourself in 1-2 years already :)
Brandon Mann hey Brandon, it’s called Muay Thai America Gym.
Tim w hi Tim, thanks for the tip sir! That’s awesome! $1k a year is quite a lot for my budget but maybe I can find something cheaper like a small local gym. I just started getting back into jogging and weight training. 😀

What about lethwei
In canada it was illegal for a while and my dad was fighting and watching illegal underground fights for years and years
Muay thai is pretty common in Germany, you will See more muay Thai schools then kickboxing schools
Stevy Kiwi thats weird bc next to germany is the netherlands and there known for there kickboxing
@JL-CptAtom As far as i know is wrestling, called "ringen" from Germany
Source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringen
And Germans werent multicultural in the first place, it happened after second World war
@@a.n.o.n Say what
@JL-CptAtom And what about it?
Please do a bit on lethwei or what ever its called.
Basically, it's a statement made from ignorance.
He has talked about Lethwei. Joe basically did an entire podcast about Lethwei with an Lethwei champion.
@@TRIPLESIXSICCNESS I lived there for 2 years. Believe me. Both the same. Some rules may differ, but basically same thing.
Thais are a lot tougher, more professional and generally always win. $$$$
@@caustixsoda8125 I know the rules, its not too complicated. They are similar but not the same.
@@TRIPLESIXSICCNESS They are the same. Some rules differ
I love training muay thai very fun
I can't explain, but Muay Thai looks different when the fighters are Europeans or Americans.
Not to state the obvious but skin colour perhaps 😂
also the judging system is different based on the area. As a result the way people fight in Thailand is different than in Europe/North America/International promotions

Great take, but Dekkers was respected by the Thais as a legit Thai fighter.
Leonis Krigorian
He was amazing to watch. Everything 100% power.
Let's get NFL players to train Muay Thai in their off season and host a mini tournament called ummm, the NFC. Title bout between Beast Mode and Ray Lewis.
It’s the extreme/hardcore side of kickboxing 🤙🏾
Once you see Haggerty fighting, you become a fan of the sport.
Joe "haaaarrrrrrd sport" Rogan
After watching this I am suddenly more than ever to be a muay Thai fighter. Thank you Joe Rogan
Muay Thai is beautiful and even includes live Thai martial music!
🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Ufc without choke will be the most entertaining one
The only thing I don't like about the traditional style is that its aggressive or bust.
I know what you mean here the pace can be odd sometimes
@@marko6368 The balance of the fighter using muay thai is foward and it gives good power but not much escape momentum. That's how you counter the style, let them over extend and then tip them.
Ooooeeeee
ive been training and fighting muay thai and i never once thought it was hard only because thats all i know. But i can assure you we train harder than boxers
After watching this I feel like getting my arse back down to muay thai man, it's the only kickboxing (can't stand boxing, too limited) variant that felt right to me, it's just natural to me.
Unlike "freestyle kickboxing" not for me.
When I was going I used to love it so much I would want to carry on after class. Unfortunately the best instructor returned to Thailand for some reason, he was brilliant.
what is wrong with freestyle KB or American Kb?
It would be very entertaining to see Ronaldo fight Messi
Ronaldo would murder him.
So no link or mention to which episode this is... nice 🙄
Idk look up lethwei rules
Idk I’ve seen lethwei matches and they definitely fight more brawlerish compared to mauy thai fighter who calculate their shots, since lethwei’s ruleset seems to favor the more aggressive fighter they don’t work much on their defensive, I definitely think Mauy Thai beats lethwei.
@Last Earthbender which style of muay thai does Saenchai use?

My dad used to do muay thai/thai boxing and I'm going on to do it now so like like every word he says
Ngl I thought it was doctor evil In the thumbnail
Very effective no doubt. But their flatfooted. They walk into punches, kicks, elbows...etc. :) If they had the footwork and movement of a western boxer too...
No one talks about the aftermath of authentic Thailand rules MT match. The MT fights I saw as a kid when I was in HOng Kong...one fighter always left on a stretcher and it was never the MT guy. The damage these guys take. Nor does any one talk about the many who've died. Or the head trauma from the many elbows and knees taken in training and in the ring. Sometimes on the street.
Try moving like a boxer against a good thai guy and you will not be walking after the first round from all the leg kicks you eat
@@WishIWasClever A decent boxer wouldn't be stationary. He should be hard to hit. And the MT buffer my boxer is using two extra works my weapons. Add his Robbie's my elbows, knees, hip toss. That's you're point???🤪
What I was saying was MT fighters would be even more effective if they weren't flatfooted.
Shrug.
I just meant I thought that would make then more effective as a"fighter.". But if it's strictly a nt fight then they have to fight as they have been.
Just seems this leaves then open more to these brutal leg kicks. Not attempting to evade. Robotic.
I find watching may thai boring. They stand in front of each other and blast leg kicks. I prefer the old school PKA. I am condemning mayor thai I just prefer to watch the sweet science.
Look up Ramon Dekkers or Buakaw they're a treat to watch
Spoken like a true casual. If you think boxing is the sweet science, then Muay Thai is the sophisticated science.
Watch footage of Smart and you will change your opinion.
Try watching muay thai from thailand like Rajadumnern stadium and Lumpini stadium or ONE championship
I love this
I wanna learn this
I highly disagree with the idea that the more weapons you add to a combat sport, the harder/tougher it is.
Mauy Thai is copying from khun khmer it damn truth ❤️🇰🇭 cambodia
Mr Kolboth GaminG cambodia has great martial arts but muay thai came from thailand and was used in civil wars when burma and laos and thailand all split from being siam, and proved the most effective so yea cambodia has a way to go before they are close, great heart and spirit just a very poor country and not enough martial arts opportunity

Mr Kolboth GaminG if its so good why are there no cambodian world champions in ufc, one championship, or pride or bellator? But there is thai, westener, everyone else but india and cambodia etc
They have some good training techniques, too.

Which one is better Muay Thai or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?! Or at least which one is more effective?!
I've been getting Bas Rutten in my recommends, and Pancrase,(spelling), is brutal. They would never allow it in the USA.
I’m glad people are noticing Muay Thai
Its a wild sport on whos the tuffest i like trained for yrs but its a lot wild lucky shots in my humble opinion
What should I take in combination with bjj Muay Thai or Krav Maga if both we’re good schools
I trained to black band in Muay Thai but from there to gold band instructor certification it's based on honour and respect to your life in general and white westerners don't have a level of honour instilled in them from the age of 6 to 8, but I did Thai boxing and judo back in the day when I was starting out in MMA cage fighting was when Bas Ruten was probably the best known fighter and he understood the importance of honour of the far East
Words of wisdom
I did a bit of muai Thai but it either wasn't for me or my trainer was shit cuz he just fucked off to his back room. Boxing is where my heart really is.
In the same situation right now.. started off boxing, transitioned to muay thai, and now I’m contemplating going back to boxing. I def enjoy the sweet science more
I love muay thai💯💯💯
I think lethwei is maybe more brutal....the headbutting they do is super vicious
Yeah but the thing is unlike kicking punching or throwing elbow
head-butting someone is not only dangerous to our opponent but also dangerous to us too
That thumbnail. Thought he was wearing a tie with his sweater
Mauy thai being safer than football is so underrated
Isn't muay thai alongside BJJ the most popular martial art styles , maybe I'm going crazy but in most gyms I ever walked into these are the two that are always there ,and if it's not muay thai it's kickboxing with an instructor with Thai boxing background
But what he means is commercially popular. People who fight for the world championship in boxing get paid 100x more probably. That also means that athletically gifted people are more inclined to join other sports instead thus depriving us of deeper divisions with even more elite fighters.
Ramon 'the diamond' Dekkers AMEN
I start maui thai kick boxing and jui jitsu next week
learn how to spell these arts correctly first.
