One thing you probably know, but a lot of others might not know, is that clappers are especially great when working with wool. At least that's what I was taught way back in the last century (the early 1970s to be a little more precise). Depending on the thickness of the wool it might be difficult to get a good press to flatten seams. So the clapper is so good for that.

True! I have some books that basically say clappers are optional on cotton but non-optional on wool!
