    A lot of people don’t understand the value of a base Tacoma with a four cylinder there one of the most reliable vehicles ever built and yes they appear budget and plain Jane but that’s the point so little to go wrong. I bought a brand new one in 2009

      It is too old and high mileage to use it very much. Actually, the bug out van was just an experiment and came out a lot better than I had anticipated. I wish I would have bought a new Sprinter van back then, they were a lot cheaper new them. I might just get a newer 4x4 van and do another build, an even better bugout moto van build.

    Hauled 2 motorcycles on a trailer 1100 miles with my buddies Tacoma V6 and we couldn’t really maintain 75 mph, then with my Silverado with the 5.3. It was better but the transmission was getting hot the farther north we got. More hills. So I said screw it and got a 2500HD Silverado with the 6.6 DirtyMax. Now there are no issues towing or hauling ANYTHING.

      It is so underpowered it ain't funny. It will probably eat up gas from slamming on the gas pedal. They are way overpriced anyways, you'd be better off with a used V6 Nissan King cab, they drive better and can be had way cheaper.

    I had a 2011 Tundra 4x4 and a 2008 Tundra 2x4. I liked both trucks a lot. The only reason I got rid of the 2008 is I had moved to Wyoming and the 2x4 truck was miserable in the winters. The only reason I got rid of the 2011 is I didn't need a pickup anymore and it was getting really hard to justify owning the truck any longer. I've had a few other trucks (1995 F150, 1997 F150, both 5-speed V8 4x4, and a 2003 Dodge 2500 Diesel) and the Tundras were my favorites... If only I could have had a manual shift in them!
    I do not like the V6 in the Toyota! My x had a 2020 4-runner and I hated driving that car. I don't think you can go wrong choosing a Tundra over any other truck, but consider looking outside of the rust belt (the $300 plane ticket will be well worth it) and be patient looking for a good one!

    • @CycleCruza

      👍 yeah i don't like the V6 Tacom. However, I love my 2005 Lexus RX330 AWD V6 taht I've had since 2007, zero issues and cuts through bad weather roads with no problems. Plenty of power but I did not like the V6 Tacoma, felt underpowered and budget. The older Lexus vehicles are so much more nicer. I do not like the new Lexus vehicles as much, seem to ride more rough.

    Finding a Tacoma that isn't rusted or ragged out can be tough! I looked at 9-10 over a period of several months before I found my current one. Most of 'em had serious rust issues. I was lucky to find one that had zero leaks, brand new frame AND leaf springs @ 178k. Currently at 212k and, while I've had to replace a lot of parts (all expected at that mileage), it's been worth it. Stay patient and you'll find what you are looking for!

    There is a trick to keep it from rusting through out the winter after driving trough the melted snow when they put the salt down that you need a sprayer with baking soda water and just rinse it down with baking soda water and don't rinse it off so that a layer of baking soda will be on it and baking soda neutralize roadsalt and the power on was ok but i have a programmer and changed the spark timing and it has more power then the hemi rams

    4 cylinder is a no for a truck unless is a much smaller truck, you will feel it's way underpowered. also get extended cab or quad cab, you will be surprised how much more comfortable that becomes. I use my F-150 to carry all kinds of things, sometimes I use the back area with the seat lifted to load boxes so that they are not exposed to the weather, I can carry quite a lot and it's not ridiculous on gas. I am going to get a roll on tonneau cover (ideally I would like the aluminum tonneau but those are over $1000 so it's not want I want to spend, I bought one for my wife's Gladiator for $300 and it looks good, saves on gas, and keeps the items in the trunk dry. i might get the same brand but for my truck). but you want a camper so no tonneau for you. but again stay away from 4 cylinder engines.

      @DaddySizeIt 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ridgelines are one of the few if not only "truck" with a bed you can reach over and into still. Most are way too high. It's because everyone that doesn't need a truck started buying them so they're showpieces. It's also one of the few trucks left without a turbo. That Honda V6 is rock solid and perfectly balanced. My only issue with Ridgelines is the price, for no frame it's a little high.

      @@CycleCruza Weird never seen rusted out ford trucks and I used to work at a shop. I would never buy a V8 Ram or the GM AFM 5.3 engine trucks, and the newer trucks with 8 and 10 speed transmissions have more issues. Tundras are reliable but bad mpg, more expensive used I think, seemed to wear out front tires earlier than other trucks I noticed. Used to have a Tacoma but ergonomics are terrible, I'm 6ft, you sit so low in the truck and no height adjustment on seat, same as 4runner. It gave me bad leg/knee pain after about 30mins driving and was unacceptable. The f150s are very comfortable, the turbo v6's have more power but more problems. So I would check out 4.8 gm's, 3.5 and 5.0 f150's with 6speed transmissions. I don't like Rams but the 3.6 is an ok engine, idk about the rest of the truck though...

    I have a 2008 std cab 4x4 5M. I paid $12k when I got it 10 years ago. I regularly have people offer me $15k for it, and it has 200,000 miles on it. I put a small lift on it, a Bestop soft cap on the bed, Flowmaster exhaust. Is it comfortable? NO. Can it haul over 2000lbs of landscaping material? YES. Other than a water pump, a $40 U joint, and basic maintenance, I've done two other things to the truck: jack and sh*t. While they are pretty gutless, they're geared lower than the 6 cylinders, so they're great offroad. The 2TR-FE is basically a small 2JZ. It has oil injectors to cool the pistons, and they're chain driven, unlike the older (pre 2010) V6.. It's a big 4, considering how much power it doesn't have. This means that you can basically drive WOT 100% of the time without damaging the motor. I built the truck as a gear hauler to get me and my mountain bikes, and snowboards to the mountains. I've pulled a handful of fullsize trucks out of the snow over the years. Great little trucks....just uncomfortable as hell. But that's OK...your body goes numb after about an hour in the driver's seat... LOL

    That little Tacoma is a basic 4x4 model and it seems like it has a lot of rust problems. If you get a Tacoma get the 4.0 engine with the offroad and towing package. That truck is more like a small work truck lol.
    Any truck you get for going offroad and explore you want an extended cab. You will appreciate the extra space on the back for many reasons. I used to go exploring the desert in California and at first I had a regular cab, then I got an extended cab and you don't look back at the regular cab.
    You can always look at an old Ford f.... Ranger. They are small, underpowered, it'll probably drive like crap but those things are easy to work on and they refuse to die. The F150s or Silverados are also good if you can find one that doesn't have issues. Dodge you are guaranteed to have issues.

    But, make sure you get the proper engine for your intended use. I've got a 2018 Tundra TRD Sport. Really enjoy that truck!

      I test drove a V6 tacoma and wasn't so impressed, it was ok but not for the crazy high price they wanted. I actually found the Nissan Frontier V6 to feel stronger than the Tacoma V6. However, the tacoma is much more reliable. The older Tacoma frame is its worst attribute.

    @Frank_Torre 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Simple solution is Tacoma for lifted offroad build and Tundra for camper truck build. Either way they'll be bulletproof reliable.

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Their reliability is the best hands down and they are awesome off-road when modded. I just feel the tacomas are way overpriced. A used Tundra is a much better deal.

    I think you should bite the bullet and spend a bit more money on something thats not all clapped out. Better to pay a bit more now and not have to worry. Plus the previous generation tundra with the 5.7 is the best one in my opinion. No timing betl to worry about. Just keep up on regular fluid changes and it will last forever if you want it to.

      #1 problem with the 4.7 and 5.7 V8 is the CAM TOWER LEAK. A 5k fix! I've talked to a few Toyota master techs and they said all of the 2nd gen Tundras will have this issue. The Car care Nut Toyota master tech on YouTueb said the same thing. You can get on as little as 50k miles or higher miles. Some tundra owner just choose to ignore it and add oil. I can sleep at night with any oil leak, had my Chevy van fixed a couple times because of oil leaks, mainly because of rot.

    • @sunsetoriginals7320
      @sunsetoriginals7320 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think this is only really an issue if regular maintenance was not done on time. If you find one that was well cared for, you won't typically have these issues. But I would definitely run from that Tacoma. The 2 different colours is a dead give away.

    Toyota has the rep for quality, but you pay for that whether the particular truck you are looking at is itself good. You might look at a newer Colorado, they are cheaper and not too bad. I know, Chev, a four-letter word, but that is also just rep. They aren't bad; I have a 2019 that runs like a top. Best to look for manual trans vehicles that are base model or similar. The more features the more chance for things to go wrong, especially in used vehicle. Which brings up the next point, since you are a high roller why not get a new rig -- let some of those moths out of your wallet! I am really cheap and I bought my 2019 new!

    I wish Toyota, Ford, Nissan, would sell a new pickup truck that was affordable. To buy a new pickup truck start around 45,000 dollars! Now a days it's better to buy a trailer instead of a pickup truck.

      According to Carfax it had no accidents, 1 owner and a clean history with maintenance records. The dealer said it had been a farm truck for all of its life except for the last two years.

    If you take care of it at all that Taco will last at least 300K miles. Ford, GM or Ram are about ready for the Junk yard at 100K.

    RUN from that rust bucket!!! With all the rust you can see, imagine how much you CAN’T see!!! I wouldn’t give $8,999, much less $12,999. Keep looking. You’ll find a good one. It may take a little while, but they’re out there.

      Not true, the best used vehicles to get are the ones that come off of a short lease. My 2005 Lexus RX330 AWD daily driver was purchased back in 2007 off of a 2 year lease.and it has been flawless, I love it and will never get rid of it. You can get a quality used vehciles but you just have to make sure to get it inspected for buying.
