I got a 2015 access cab and it is the best truck that I’ve ever had. Bought it new and now I have 119K miles. It will not win any races but the reliability is what I wanted.

Thanks for the video. I've had my 2008 for about 3 months now. Regular cab, just like this. 176k on the clock. As basic as it comes. My cousin died and I bought it to keep it in the family. So far I've put some bigger tires on it on the stock wheels, I put in a decent kenwood double din head unit with Android Auto and Bluetooth, and just changed out the water bypass pipe because it was leaking. That was fun. Early year second gens had a plastic pipe, the replacement part was a much-improved metal unit. Got a little K&N intake for it to add a little pep, and getting ready to make the investment on a leer cap for it with a roof rack. Also added some stop tech slotted and drilled rotors with ceramic pads. So far so good.

    • @oldmanmillennial5375
      @oldmanmillennial5375  3 ปีที่แล้ว

That’s interesting about the water bypass pipe. I had never heard of that issue, but after some research it sounds somewhat common as these 2.7s age. Would you happen to know when Toyota switched to the metal pipe? I’m wondering if I should take my ‘13 in to have it replaced as preventative maintenance.
It’s been a great little truck! I just pulled a little over 3500lbs worth of stuff in the bed and a trailer for a move. It was slow, but I ran it through the mountains of west Texas and it did alright. One word of caution about the camper, if you do any highway driving 70+ mph, you’ll notice the camper shell. I’ve got an old aluminum one with a rack on top and since my commute is mostly highway I ended up taking it off. I mostly noticed it when passing or accelerating onto the highway. But to be fair, the truck has never been a speed racer! I’m thinking about bumping the tires up to 30s or 31s and regearing to 4.10s to get back closer to the stock tire/gear ratio. I lifted the truck too, so I may do an update video about that.

OK!!! A HEADS UP PEOPLE 07 tacoma 2.7L
There is a tube that runs from the side of the thermostat housing, between the engine block and intake manifold, to the back of the engine, it splits in 2, 1 for the heater core, and 1 to the throtal body as a pre warmer.. (ITS MADE OUT OF PLASTIC) 🤔😤 So Yea it ran HOT, BAD HOT!!! And that was at 150000 I hope many people read my comment!!!!! Its been down hill ever sents!!!!

Nice Video....I have the 2012 Base Tacoma myself.
    2.7 LT, 4x4, 5 speed manual.
It is Barcelona Red with Black Cladding/Fenders.
Most people think mine is a higher trim level then what it really is...
I purchased it in February 2013 as a Red Tag Price for $18,300.00 w/23 miles on it.
I did add Cruise Control when I bought it at the dealer. I know the Service Director and he put it on for me for just under $500.00.
For me Cruise is a Must Have! Especially with a 4 cylinder Having a manual with cruise saves you in gas mileage.
Reason being I live in a fairly flat area (Mich) and when you have a manual with your cruise on then the truck will NOT down shift like an Automatic will do.
If I am going 70mph and hit an incline I will drop down to around 67mph while still in 5th gear.
You will not get 24-25mpg though. The best I can get is 22mpg but normally around 20mpg.
In winter around 18mpg and that depends on how much you use the 4x4.
Having NO power options are actually nice too. Roll Down Windows.
They are easier to 'un-stick' when they ice up when compared to power windows.
I also added Fog Lights and Rock Guards plus a nice ExTang Tri-Fold bed cover.
I put Michelin Defenders on it and it grips the road very well.
Good luck to you and your Base Tacoma. I have 130K on mine and 123K of those miles are true Highway Miles before I retired.
If I end up keeping it I should get at least 300K out of it if not 500K since I do not drive mine hard or tow with it.

I have the 4X4 version of this truck. 145,000 and no mechanical issues at all. I'll drive it into the ground. The 2.7 is a dog on the highway but the VVTI is snappy enough to keep up in city traffic. It's also no slouch off road.

I actually lifted it with the fat bobs 2.75 lift plus add a leaf in the rear. It was great, but I noticed the added wind resistance with the lift. I drove a lot on the highway and on windy days the truck would constantly be down shifting because of the added wind resistance. If you don’t get on the highway often you probably won’t have the issue I did. My plan was to add 31s after the lift, but it really would have needed a regear.
