The Volkswagen T-Cross was a sales success before the first tyres even touched showroom floors, such was the interest from local buyers in this little SUV.
But rather interestingly the price range of the T-Cross lineup overlaps with price range of the Polo in our market, and so many buyers are likely to be asking themselves, which one should I buy?

Just want to point out point out a few mistakes made that would really alter the buyers decision.
1. You don’t have to upgrade to the discover navigation radio on the T-Cross to get 4 USB ports, that come with the composition media unit which is standard on this highline model.
2. The use of materials between the cars differs in that that dash board of the polo gets ‘soft touch’ plastic as opposed to the hard plastic you’ve shown on the T-Cross.
3. Wireless charging is standard on the highline T-Cross and optional on all other trim levels and is also OPTIONAL on all polos.
I get that the vehicle costs are high but giving inaccurate information as to what you get and what you need to spend extra on doesn’t help to add appeal to the car, so please double check your info before misleading the consumer.
Don’t mean to be ‘that’ person complaining in the comments but I had to give my 2 cents worth.
Having ridden in both i prever the polo allot more but the t-cross looks better🤷♂️

Honestly only reason I'd have the T cross is because of the crime rate in our country. Polos are known high risk cars

18" wheels really make no sense on a 1 litre car. They are only there for the bling value.Get 16" with higher profile tyres. More comfortable ride, cheaper and you may actually be able to take your T Cross on a gravel road.

I think it's quite interesting how the majority of the comments on this video seem to be negative about the T-Cross but sales figures are through the roof? (At least in the opening weeks of it going on sale). I absolutely love it though and would definitely get one over the Polo, I think it looks better and the price difference is negligible. Just a pity about the sunroof, that's a very appealing option that I would very much like on the T-Cross.

I have the wireless inductive charging in my Polo as well as the rear USB ports.
You did not mention anything about the ride height and the seat height difference between the two which, especially for older clients, will be the deciding factor

I was shocked to find out the t cross dash is all hard plastic when I had a first ride recently but it does look great. I’d go with polo due to price
Is it just my perception or is the steering wheel (at least in the T-Cross) as thick rimmed as a New York City bagel?
I can't currently buy either car as they are not sold in the U.S. but I think I would buy the Polo if wireless charging was available and I would have to spec a sunroof (is a sunroof available in the T-Cross?).

I’ve had T Cross for 20 months and I love it. If I was going for a hatchback I’d have a Golf rather than a Polo anyway. T Roc is next on my wish list.

Those prices are crazy! Modern throwaway cars... expensive, beautiful and relatively reliable when new, but not so a few years down the line, never mind 20-30 years later like many 80s and 90s classics. No thank you, I'll stick with my reliable and well-engineered MB W124!

More space in the boot. Also, it may not be that higher off the ground but you have ever driven in snow or pulled out of snow cover car parks then you definitely appreciate every bit of height you have.
Why didnt you guys put the Rline Tcross up against the Rline Polo just to be fair in the looks department.. that beats polo doesnt look anything like the Rline..

You can spec the wireless charging pad in the polo too. Its a package called Mobile device interface which include two rear seats USBs and a wireless charging pad. My car has that extra
As an individual Polo as a Small family T-Cross
The start button and the 12v socket are the wrong way around (unless you have a LHD)
Might as well get a polo GTi for that much, at least you'll have fun and a decent resale value. R360K for a scooter engine? Lol. If you want practically then you should probably get a used Tiguan/Rav4/CX5...

I drive a Tcross Comfortline in R-line spec. Other than the frustrating DSG in slow traffic and a few rattles here and there, this car is perfect for the city with its ease of use and comfort. Furthermore, the ability to sit high up in the Tcross as in a proper SUV, is a boon compared to the Polo...
I agree on the seating position. I think it is actually more of a consideration than internal space.

The only reason I'd go for the POLO is the sliding SUNROOF which the T-CROSS hasn't.

I’d thought THE major reason for choosing the t-cross over the polo is that it is a bit more capable on gravel? First time I learn the major consideration for a SUV is boot space? 😳
I'm a mum to a two year old and looking at buying a car next year. One of the first things I look at is the boot space. It wasn't a priority before having my child.

You should compare the R-Line T Cross with a R-Line Polo.

I don't know. The only Polo I would buy is the beats version because in other executions prices rise quickly and the beats version is more 'sports'. It costs 321.619 Rand in Belgium ie with some essential options and no open roof. I don't like the appearance of a T-cross and you rarely see them in our streets. Then I would save more and buy a T-Roc which costs 379000 Rand and I think then you will have a decent car. So to see is Volkswagen not cheap in South Africa. But in America they let their for MUCH less than in Belgium. Well thank you VW.

Cars are becoming too expensive.... A flipin polo costs that much.
They come standard with way more equipment and they are bigger, so i kinda understand the price increase.
Still, they could be cheaper.
Vw is becoming more premium. That's why you have Skoda. Essentially vw, but cheaper.

i have never liked low profile tires for to bumpy ride compared to standard!
Which one should you buy..? Easy! A Skoda Kamiq for all those lovely soft touch plastics which are oddly missing in the T-Cross.
We don't get Skoda in South Africa (yet?)

You forgot to mention that the dashboard in the polo is soft touch. The one in the t cross is hard plastic.
Price is nice until options. I drive a second hand that doesn't have built in Bluetooth and that cost me only R150 to add so now I just run Google's Android auto as an app on the phone.

I don't get keyless start at all. What's the use? Then you key just end up in some random cubby or pocket where it gets scratched and damages the car.
Just put key in ignition, turn and off you go.

Polo touches the ground when driving on gravel roads with sand in the middle. T cross would be the perfect polo for someone that regularly drives on gravel
Factually incorrect with the cars being tested. The Beats edition of the Polo is based on the Comfortline, and not the Highline. They don’t have the same wheel sizes, 16 inch vs 18 inch wheels, even the power outputs are different.

About fuel usages, I have been told by t-cross owners that they do spend more than a Polo, noticeably more.
T Cross is overpriced. Comfortline models do not even have Apple Carplay or Android auto as standard. The Ford Ecosport Trend model is a 30K saving over the VW and its interior is of better quality. Soft touch dash etc. SA consumers are blindsided by the VW badge. The T Cross may look the part from the outside, but in reality its an overpriced Polo.

Small. Cheap plastic interior. R430k for a 1.0tsi engine on the only model that really looks good.
