I work with a guy that married a women from Vietnam. They go back to see family every other year and he has told me they are some of the nicest people he has ever encountered. I am amazed by that. I would think they would hate Americans because of the war. I am thinking about a trip to Vietnam now.

I am Canadian. I spent almost 2 months travelling Vietnam. I think about revisiting that country every time. They are such hardworking, friendly, and outgoing people. Cant wait to go back!
It's actually an interesting phenomena that I brought up to some (online) Vietnamese friends of mine. We played War Games together (Battlefield and Call of Duty) and there was no shortage of friendly banter lol, but also the occasional deep conversation. I don't want to throw out any false percentages. But I'd be willing to wager that the majority do not despise Americans simply because of the War. Obviously you'll have those outlying assholes that hate anyone for any reason available; they're everywhere after all. But most decent folks hold no grudges for past deeds outside of *any* of our control. Nor should they. They may not agree with how the US Government operates - and specifically how it conducts itself around the Globe - but that sentiment is also held here in the States by a substantial number of our own citizens. They seem to very much have a "forgive, move on, but never forget" mentality. Much like their current relations with the Japanese...who did horrendous, unspeakable things to the Vietnamese populous years back. Perhaps 40+ years ago the environment would have been *drastically* different, for obvious reasons. But now that younger generations have grown up and experienced much more of the "outside world", namely Western Culture, there's little reason to hold so firmly to old grudges better left in the past. There's actually a fairly large amount of Veterans (from both sides) that actively pay respects to each other. It's the commonality between them that brings them closer together. They were both there, in the same shit...together, but seperate. An unknown at the time, unspoken bond between brothers-in-arms. A big group is known as "The Veterans for Peace" and are ex US Service Members, many of whom reside permanently in Vietnam. If you search "Waging Non Violence" and "Meet the US Veterans returning to make amends in Vietnam" you'll find a nice article about it. What you ate at 11:00 is a very different type of food that shares the same name "bo bia". The bo bia you looked up on Google is savoury, the outside is rice paper wrap and the filling is root vegetable called "cu san" and fried egg and thin slices of sausage and will be paired with peanut sauce.

The environment in Hanoi is very polluted. So take note if you are traveling. The lake you said is called Truc Bach Lake. This is where John McCain was shot down in 1967.
I've heard that Hanoi had bad air quality during some months but would have thought it would be in the summer months. I was in Hanoi for about a week in Feb couple years back and it was little cloudy but air quality was decent.

I will be staying in Hanoi for 1 month soon, and i am having such a hard time picking a place to stay. I get really picky with what i like and need in an apartment, and also the area. Picking a neighborhood has been tough. I keep vacillating between Tay ho and Near old quarter -- i need a quiet apartment because i do therapy sessions, but i also like to have something fun to do around me so during my breaks i can go out and enjoy delicious food or nice scenery. Do you have recommendations?
Ba Dinh was a nice area for a long stay. Many expats choose to live in Tay Ho. Old Quarter is a good area for holiday stays, but it may be difficult to stay there longer term if you value quiet time 😅

It's been common for us to see the types of issues you mentioned in many large cities we've visited. Even so, there are so many positive traits that make Hanoi so unique and amazing. With the continuing increase of awareness around issues regarding polluting the environment in general, hopefully these problems will be given high priority (especially air quality) and will diminish in the future.

Might sound weird to some, I Was trying to move to a part of Vietnam that barely had tourists if any, How's the cost of living there compared to more secluded areas?
Expect like a 50% drop in price going from Ba Dinh to outside the old quarter. If you’re like moving to the country side then it’s like 5 times cheaper. But that’s the north. I don’t know what it’s like in other regions.

Thanks! We only stayed in Hanoi for one month, then moved to Da Nang for longer term. The air quality there is much better than Hanoi.

Man she got fooled by the barber,it just about 100 thousand dong if you do a hair cut in Vietnam,I'm Vietnamese and I think that is the thing that most of forgeners don't like about vn, I'm so sorry about that,my country is like a asshole for me personality Vietnamese.
Hey Lê! Don't worry, the barber had his prices publicly displayed on his Facebook page, which I saw before I made the appointment. Since this video, I have also tried other shops in Vietnam and got a great wash/cut/dry for 125,000 VND :)
@@deeplizardvlog yeah that is a good price for beginners but your gf said that it was 350 thousand dong so it was expensive though,you should be more careful when you traveling in vn cause they might sell with a higher price especially for beginners :)
