Does he have an elevator in his building? Very important if you rent a high floor and you have luggage to move and have to take stairs. I've learned the hard way!
Loved this!! I lived in Danang just before the pandemic. Just got back - the owner of my apartment where all my stuff was stranded for almost two years, kept everything in perfect condition and would never accept any money from me to cover storage costs. I even got a free month on the apartment when I came back - this is just one reason of many of why I love Vietnam in general and Danang in particular. But I hesitate to mention it because well, er, shhhhh!!!
Thank you guys for this video, just seeing you sitting under the trees shade and showing how happy you are living in Vietnam makes me want to go there now. Great Channel 👍
Enjoyed watching that. My wife and I were there three years ago for a few nights. Can't remember a lot about Da Nang but do remember walking at night to a bridge in the form of a dragon. And a fantastic beach where we hired sunloungers - next to a bar of course. The biggest problem we had was food. The only restaurants we found didn't have menus in English. Mind you, we had the same problem wherever we travelled in China, so managed to adapt. One of those places we'd love to go back to again, but, unfortunately, with covid and health problems that tend to come when you are in your 70s, it's unlikely.

I've visited Da Nang before and really enjoyed it. It was a few years ago but seemed like a holiday destination in some parts as it was near the coast! However, I did think it had a nice mix of working but also relaxing because you could nip to the coast if you wanted to. That's one thing I miss about being based in Bangkok, you can get transport to coastal resorts but it takes a while!
I am originally from NYC. Been here In Saigon about 30 years now retired. Unless you experienced it... you can't even imagine what Danang was like in the 90s compared with today. And even in Saigon in the early days... no mobiles, no cable, no internet. Calling home meant a visit to the post office and three dollars a minute. But regardless of the time period its all been about people interaction, mostly beautiful places and warm weather. Frankly speaking... I wouldn't dare leave the country again till travel is back without incident for at least a year with pre-covid conditions ie., no tests, no quarantines no questions about vaccinations.

I traveled around Vietnam in 2006. I fell in love with Hanoi. I’d love to move to Vietnam .. would they let me just keep renewing my tourist over and over ? How could I get my citizenship?
Yea, you are retired in Vietnam....until you need major medical treatment. Only a fool would consider retiring in a country that lacks top medical care.
Living in Vietnam is great. Did it in 2006-2008, but I had a visa to teach English. How can one work online like you mentioned in Vietnam? What type of visa is offered that would be suitable to do that? I am medically retired and over 50 so very hard for me to get a visa in Vietnam to live. Hence why I went to Thailand. I’ve been living in Saigon, District 1 for almost two years now. I love it here! The people are friendly and each day is an adventure. I spend about $1,000.00 USD per month for everything: rent, utilities, cell phone, WiFi, cable television, dining out, etc.
@@danny24042002 Very true. You can easily live for much less money elsewhere in the country. Cost wise, certain Districts in Saigon are like the New York City of Vietnam. Everything is much more expensive here, but you have easy access to anything that you want. For example, access to western food, western products, and the best quality medical care can prove to be a little hit and miss out in the province. However, Danang is an excellent compromise. They have all the conveniences of a modern city (food, products, movie theaters, medical care, airport, etc.) but at a lower cost. The main disadvantage of Da Nang: constant noise. From construction work, from food advertisers, from thousands of motorcycles, from karaoke. Moreover, it starts from 6-7 am and ends at 1-2 am. Definitely I recommend denang, was there a couple of times, had an excellent dentist and enjoyed great variety of Western food native food, and rented a cheap scooter, that is your freedom, or a hazardous aspect I intend to go back there, but I have a question for readers here.... Now I am currently on dialysis does anyone have any idea if PD supplies are readily available or how much planning ahead I might need any answers? BTW I think many young women here are more friendly, and More Beautiful than most countries 🙏🙏
Point well made. Safe; good start: clean, cheap, welcoming ppl, helpful, industrious, weather & above all, relaxed. Of course, petty crime seems unavoidable. That too can b reduced to almost 0.

As an older person I am curious about the overall healthcare situation, I am relatively healthy as is my wife so as long as our prescriptions are available I would probably be fine. We are planning on retiring in 3.5 years with an estimated retirement of around $ 4,500. US , so from what I am seeing we could live well there. This would be a huge leap for us as born and bred US citizens but we do some traveling and really have not found anything affordable that also could be a place that really suits us so maybe you could suggest some contacts that could help us on our path ?
Not that extreme humidity like in Thailand ?? How's that? Thailand and Vietnam are just beside each other. I'm currently living in the Philippines and the humidity is unbearable. Please enlighten me more; I might just consider moving there ..
In the south like Saigon which is inland, it's hot and humid like Thailand but further north like Da Nang and Hanoi it's less humid and cooler. Plus Thailand is mostly land lock but Vietnam have coastline from north to south.
Please help if you can Can foreigners own property? Where is the best suburb to live in Saigon? What would be the cost of a small house with land in Saigon?
Very true! I've lived in Bangkok for almost 4 yrs before moving to Ho Chi Minh City! I'm new here... so far I've found people are kinder and often go the extra mile to help you! ❤ Life's really beautiful.. I love the leafy alleys! And you can save or travel while living a pretty good life. Nightlife is definitely not as happening as Bkk, options are fewer or limited to certain places/districts (I might not have explored all it has to offer yet!) But again, that could be a better thing depending on what you choose for yourself right now..
You don't miss the US and surrounding with your relatives or family in the US? Just curious. I love my home country but I cant really leave life in US and be over there especially the medical system.
Thanks for a great video! I am planning to stay in Da Nang for 3 months, and I am curious where is the best place to find a $300/month apartments like his, other than airbnb. Also, which area would be ideal for easy access to beach and the nomad community/coworking? Thanks in advance!
Keep in mind, these guys are from South Africa and are essentially upgrading their lives massively by moving to Vietnam. They’re like refugees - Vietnam is full of these South Africans. Don’t drink the cool aid American, British, Australian peeps.
Totally. Imagine constantly being in fear of being assaulted/robbed in SA. It’s not like the good old days of segregation where you would be relatively safe.
@@skillfuldabest it was that segregation policy which barred high quality education that produced the robberies of modern day SA. Don’t wish for it. I know what you’re talking about. So disgusting.
Hey! Are you from Zimbabwe by any chance? Or South Africa? Your accent is so familiar and it's cool to see someone from my side of the world (potentially) living in Vietnam like I hope to soon
I think you guys are giving a slightly false image. Don't get me wrong, I think Vietnam is a great place. I will return there as soon as the visa situation allows it. But you don't mention the visa policy. Don't expect to get into Vietnam any time soon without a very good reason. And secondly the rent for appartments you are talking about are Covid prices. You can expect those prices to be double that when things reopen. Still cheap by most Western standards. You are enjoying Covid Vietnam- extra cheap prices and no tourists, it's a little different when tbings get back to normal. But I do agree with you that Vietnam is a great place to be.
It’s true apartments are cheaper than before right now. But maybe discounted about 1-2 mil so not a huge difference. We talk more about the visa stuff in the next video.
3 more years, I will be retiring at age 55 with around 6k pension per month. I came to the US at the age of 16, went through college, and have been working for more than 25 years. Plan to go back to Danang, my childhood and birthplace, to retire with half a year there, and half a year here in the US. Hopefully, things will be all ok by then.
How do you guys compare Danang to Nha Trang, or even to Siem Reap, Cambodia or Koh Samui, Thailand?? And how do you adjust to the very high humidity and heat?!
How would I contact your landlord / owner to check on availability for places like the one u mentioned. Are they only available long term ? We r planning Da Nang six weeks in January and retiring and planning to head there for longer this time next year. Thanks
Seems like you guys are there permanently. How does that work? All I could find says that visas are only valid for 90 days. How do you stay there permanently? Is there a video on that?

Hey man, could you do a video about Visas for freelance/remote workers? I've landed a great job but I am unable to get a Visa in Vietnam because I am not employed by a Vietnamese company. So I'm having to leave to somewhere more suitable for remote workers.
Yeah, unfortunately Vietnam might not have any good visa options for remote workers post pandemic. We’ll have to wait and see what visas are available when the borders reopen as it’s not clear right now.
The biggest problem in Vietnam these days is the visa situation, its making harder and harder to go there and live and work etc, the feeling of freedom i had living there eleven years ago has definitely gone unfortunately. At the same time the country has also been getting more and more authoritarian which is all part of the problem.
@@Krasnoye158 your wrong hien I was referencing other developments in the country and suggesting the two are linked. Communist countries are also authoritarian regimes for your information.
Vietnam is a long country. It's weather is pretty diverse. Everything is relative, compare to where you are it may be hot and humid as hell, compare to Thailand and other SE Asian countries, it's not that bad, especially in Da Nang.
@@johnhetherington917 And I lived in VN for 10 yrs, in Hanoi and in HCMC as well. I guess it's not "too hot or too wet" if you managed to lived there for 7 years eh? I mean I visited Florida countless times and the Caribbean twice and Americans, Canadians, Brits and Europeans frolicking in that hot and humid weather so I just thought I'd pass on my perspective to avoid us expats being labeled as a bunch of ungrateful spoiled whiny brats, know what I mean?
@@20luzer52 oh snap, looks like that's me told, huh? Stuck it out longer than I did. And I did leave, sir, but that's neither here nor there. To "complain" about the climate is pointless as there precious little you can do about it. I'm merely stating a fact. To describe the weather as "not humid at all" or "mild" is being disingenuous and misleading. Da Nang and VN in general have plenty of positives but the weather, for the most part, is not one of them. Peace ✌️
@@johnhetherington917 Thank you for clarifying your point about embellishing something is disingenuous .... by illustrating the problem yourself John, this is very kind of you. So the guy that appreciates his life there embellishing about a climate that 100 million+ people, including hundreds of thousands foreigners themselves, that can put up with and many actually enjoy is "disingenuous and misleading". Not to mention there's a small beach nearby. But you who lived there for 7 years saying it's "too hot or too wet", ie not inhabitable or practically uninhabitable, a climate (not only specific to VN but also in India and Central and South America and Caribbean) where we Westerners had colonialized for decades and if not for the fact that we were kicked out we'd have stayed there for decades more, is not embellishing? But thank you for the exchange John. I hope you're having a good life wherever you are now. And I will take this as lessons about continuing to try to change our whiny attitude and image because God knows, we're the only that know anything right, especially about climate given how we've managed to "take care" of it for the last 70 years.

@@ninja.teacher can you tell me what building Richie is in?
BUT I LOVE 50c weather with crazy high humidity like Myanmar.
💩🔥🔥
You Sir, must be a sadist lol
@@ESL-O.G. I just find cold weather to be miserable. High humidity and palm tress make me happy mentally.
so cool.. From Ho Chi Minh city VN with love...👍👍
BTW I think many young women here are more friendly, and More Beautiful than most countries
🙏🙏
Point well made. Safe; good start: clean, cheap, welcoming ppl, helpful, industrious, weather & above all, relaxed. Of course, petty crime seems unavoidable. That too can b reduced to almost 0.
What if I go there as a digital nomad, fall in love with the place and want to stay long term? is it super hard to get some kind of residence?
Have a great time guys .. 👍
Driving/traffic is really like a school of fish.. Its definitely like an organic think, not covered by laws but rather by instinct and just following the group.
Hello. Thanks for the video. I intend to live in Da Nang in a month. Can you tell me the real state agency you used?
Mình từng ra Đà Nẵng ở một thời gian và thấy ở đó chi phí sinh hoạt khá rẻ so với ở TPHCM, mình cũng ko hiểu tại sao.
How about living safely with Mother Nature in Vietnam for 80 year old women who want to stay put and not have to do a Visa Run?
Expat 🇬🇧🇺🇲 went to Vietnam 🇻🇳 30 years ago ..no Tourists Brilliant now I'm in Colombia 🇨🇴 I live on $1500 built a modern house for $30,000 in the country ..but may spend some again in SE Asia. Spice things up again ..good video👍
I love Vietnam and the Vietnamese
Please help if you can
Can foreigners own property?
Indeed , Vietnamese are more real and friendlier than Thai, lol
@@silverlily4681- The Vietnamese are also genuine and not shallow.
THANK YOU TO BOTH OF YOU
Good job bro!! It's cheeper than Philippines?
Yeah, and Richie, you're too energetic. D other guy, has a cool demeanor. All nice
Thanks for the video, Richie, would mind sharing the location and name of the service apartment. ?
What building is Richie renting from? Those units look really nice, would love to rent there.
Keep in mind, these guys are from South Africa and are essentially upgrading their lives massively by moving to Vietnam. They’re like refugees - Vietnam is full of these South Africans. Don’t drink the cool aid American, British, Australian peeps.
Yup, these South Africans actually consider coming to Vietnam to teach English for $1,500 a month a legit career option.
@@Krasnoye158 Dude you don’t know what you’re talking about. Black crime is high regardless of the access to education all over the world.
@@Krasnoye158 That’s incorrect. Look at statistics all over the world where this group of people have had access to education for many decades.
@@ninja.teacher exactly right
I paid 10 Milion for a studio apartment, pre covid it's more than 1 to 2 million. It was on the ground floor with no pool.
Extreme humidity only happens when you go to Hanoi and around but mostly no.
I’m interested in how you get a long term visa? Do you do 3 month tourist visa and do continual visa runs?
Thank you my man for the information regarding VietNam
How do you guys compare Danang to Nha Trang, or even to Siem Reap, Cambodia or Koh Samui, Thailand?? And how do you adjust to the very high humidity and heat?!
Thanks for this informative video.🙂
Hope you have a good time in Vn 🤝
Is that barking dog in background an exception or this normal?
How would I contact your landlord / owner to check on availability for places like the one u mentioned. Are they only available long term ? We r planning Da Nang six weeks in January and retiring and planning to head there for longer this time next year. Thanks
Seems like you guys are there permanently. How does that work? All I could find says that visas are only valid for 90 days. How do you stay there permanently? Is there a video on that?
Could you tell me where to rent the place like yours in Danang . Thks alot
How do retirees from North America do in Danang ??
Was that dinner I heard barking in the background?
Great video. Hi I’m Canadian And I’m travelling to Vietnam February 2023 I’m looking to connect with an acupuncturist in Hanoi who speaks English I am certified in acupuncture for use in a physiotherapy clinic and I am a physiotherapist. I am looking to shadow or take a short course. Can you give me some ideas to connect.
How to find an apartment when you're still oitside Vietnam? I have a cat with me and can't stay at hotels. Thanks
Thank you very much for sharing
Hey man, could you do a video about Visas for freelance/remote workers? I've landed a great job but I am unable to get a Visa in Vietnam because I am not employed by a Vietnamese company. So I'm having to leave to somewhere more suitable for remote workers.
Yeah, unfortunately Vietnam might not have any good visa options for remote workers post pandemic. We’ll have to wait and see what visas are available when the borders reopen as it’s not clear right now.
Try Georgia
The biggest problem in Vietnam these days is the visa situation, its making harder and harder to go there and live and work etc, the feeling of freedom i had living there eleven years ago has definitely gone unfortunately. At the same time the country has also been getting more and more authoritarian which is all part of the problem.
@@buffysummers7927 from the perspective of a citizen I think you’ve mistaken stricter immigration policies with authoritarianism.
@@Krasnoye158 your wrong hien I was referencing other developments in the country and suggesting the two are linked. Communist countries are also authoritarian regimes for your information.
Are you kidding me? Not humid and hot? You get a total of 3 or 4 good months there between the seasons where it's either too hot or too wet.
Vietnam is a long country. It's weather is pretty diverse. Everything is relative, compare to where you are it may be hot and humid as hell, compare to Thailand and other SE Asian countries, it's not that bad, especially in Da Nang.
@@20luzer52 thanks for the lesson. I lived in DN for 7 years. I got a fair idea what the weather is like.
@@johnhetherington917 And I lived in VN for 10 yrs, in Hanoi and in HCMC as well. I guess it's not "too hot or too wet" if you managed to lived there for 7 years eh? And if it's "too hot or too wet", why don't you leave??
Can you wear a nice watch like a Rolex? Or best avoided?
