Some tricks I learned from a professional cleaner that had a company that cleaned rentals. Use a razor blade paint scraper held at a very low angle. With my toaster oven I just spray the inside with Simple Green, let it sit for a while, then use the paint scraper to get off the baked grease. After that I use a green pot scrubber to get to the areas that are difficult to reach with the scraper. Soaking time about 30-60 minutes, scrubbing time about 15 minutes and it's done. Green scrubby or SOS do a great job on the rack.

The soaking for the tray won't work. What's worked for me is a baking soda and peroxide paste mix, cover the area and let sit for several hours or overnight. You could use a Brillo pad or rough sponge to wipe it off, you'll barely have to scrub. Hope this helps
I might have to throw mine out 😞 and buy a new one. Something dripped onto the element and it stinks up the house for hours when I use it --- and I use it daily

No cleaners needed. I remove the tray and use sandpaper on dry tray. Tiny scratches don't matter because they will be on the inside. rinse tray in clear water or just wipe with damp cloth. You can sand inside wherever is reachable and wipe off loose stuff. Always unplug first. Looks good!
Ammonia has a very strong scent, but if you put the trays in one of those garbage bags and add it in and let it sit over night, it should come off fairly easy.
A Brillo pad worked on my tray. Also, why not try the BKF and/or baking soda paste on the tray? I didn't see you try that. But as I said the Brillo pad worked on my try. You did a nice job on the rest of the oven though.
On that nasty tray I used a power drill with brass rotary wire wheel for the really heavy stuff. Rechromed with Coke and aluminum foil wrapped on Electric tooth brush. Looks brand new again. Used beekeepers fried overnight. Scrubbed with brash brillo pad
How to clean the heating elements? I scanned the video but could not see any work being done on those super important parts for a toaster oven and mine has got very hard gunk on it caused by a guest staying here. Need to find out how to get the elements completely clean. Because I presume having food stuck on those elements which get very hot is going to make them stop working, right?
Hi Caroline, I just used a hot, wet sponge and water for mine. I can't say that this was the area of my toaster oven dirtiest though. Were you able to find something that worked for you yet?
@@AfterTap Hi and thank you for your response with query! I am glad to report that the heating elements totally cleaned up all by themselves - Don't ask me how! There is no more gunk on them. I think I read that this would happen elsewhere on the web, so you can inform people not to worry - heat repeatedly applied to the gunk gets rid of it!
Use the powder form of BKF and make a paste with water. Coat the tray in the paste and let it sit for a few days. I keep it moist with a spray bottle (not sure this is absolutely necessary though). You can then scrape off the goo, and/or scrub with a scotchbrite pad. Repeat if necessary. It can take a while, and it will never be like new, but you can improve it with the paste, time and a little bit of elbow grease.
Hi there, I used baking soda and vinegar paste then let is sit overnight if you can. Wipe away with warm water or more vinegar. Let me know if you have any troubles!!
I have a Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro, with the quartz heating elements. Breville manual states, "gently rub a soft, damp sponge or cloth along the length of the heating element. Do not use any type of cleanser or cleaning agent. Do not use any standard oven cleaner to clean the interior of the oven as this will deteriorate the metal surface." So how do I clean the quartz elements once they get covered and discolored from air frying oily things? They don't look nice at all.
I’ve seen a cookie sheet with similar staining cleaned with oven cleaner. Also I have successfully used tin foil to wrap the tray in mine, but then found out it could be a potential safety hazard and stopped.
Brillo. It doesn't scratch and eliminate all that grease. Clean the tray after you use it. I use sometimes oven cleaner, guilty but them I wipe it off several time with a damp rag.
I am sorry and I hope you consider this constructive criticism and not trolling. I can not watch TH-cam channels that I have to turn up and down constantly because the dialog is at one volume and the music is extremely loud. I am somewhat deaf so I have to turn up to hear what you're saying and then turn way down when the music comes on. I recommend a editing program that allows you to edit different sound tracks volumes.
Absolutely hear you on this Jillian! Excuse the terribly pun. This is probably the hardest part of editing these videos for me and something I'm working on with future videos. Appreciate you watching nonetheless!
I never saw the top inside of the oven, before or after cleaning. I have the exact same model of oven, I have been using it for 1 and a half years. I have cooked steak, chicken, fish, pork 7 days a week in that time. I found 3 days ago unbeknownst to me a large thick accumulation of baked on grease oil and ? soot( from occasional burned meal) on the oven interior roof. I never saw the roof of your oven. I am curious to see how well you cleaned above the heating elements I consider this a major over site.
Edgar Cox thank you for watching! Appreciate you commenting and bringing the oversight to my attention. While my toaster oven didn’t accumulate build up on the roof, I used the same solution throughout the inside of the appliance. Be careful if you are to use this method to not scrub the actual heating mechanisms but just in between. This video is not real time or else it would be well over an hour but hopefully you got the gist of what worked well for me. Good luck!!
I read somewhere that you can flip the toast oven over & clean the top just like you would the bottom, just be careful around the heating elements. Hope this helps.
I did flip it upside down and scrub my 18 months old breville with BKF+magic eraser. It doesn't take much out and definitely not what's on the top since I can't reach it.
The baking soda and vinegar paste won't be good. This oven has a mesh for the air fryer and convention. If the paste goes into those holes, it's almost impossible to take em out. And every time you bake something, the particles of dried baking soda will pour over your food
That is so true. I tried her technique and I have the same exact oven. Now, whenever I open my oven there are white particles all over the trays. So useless.
Thank you for the tips. Try steel wool on the tray that did not clean. Don't use aluminum foil as a liner, it can create toxic fumes under heat. In my regular oven I use parchment paper and change it every time, although I have not tried parchment in the convection oven I wonder if it may work, just change it each time used.
Try putting them crates and tray in ammonia overnight. Either a tote or h garbage bag closed tight. Does not have to be completely immersed the fumes do the work. You can also leave a bowl in oven overnight. Does wonders for grates and burners for stove also. I use the grill brush on basket.
I saw, on either Target or Amazon's website, a promotional demonstration video for the BBQ Scrub Daddy. it said to heat the BBQ at 300 degrees soak the BBQ daddy and steam clean the BBQ that way. I can't help but wonder if that would work for the oven tray as well.
Are used to work for Sur La Table and I sold a lot of these Breville toaster ovens and I’ve had two in the past… The bottom tray is the worst thing to clean… Everyone complains about how bad it is… With that being said, whatever you do, do not put aluminum foil on the bottom of this pan! Why because the rep from breville told me that the kind of metal and the reflective action when the toaster oven isn’t use it doesn’t cook or bake properly… I’ve even asked the Breville rep. How do you clean it and the only thing she could tell me was, “you have to clean it every time you use it!"And I told her "...that is completely impractical. there has to be a better solution.?"she couldn’t answer me… So the only thing I can suggest is that you have to buy a whole new pan… But check with the Breville website on how to clean the Crumb pan.
I've cleaned stuff like that tray before just using dish soap and hot water, what you need are steel wool, a plastic scraper and a hard brush with the plastic scraper on the backside. While the tray or pot is completely submerged, that's when you scrape and scrub.
Hi Eileen! I'm sure you've found a solution by now (sorry for the late reply), but honestly start with Dawn dish soap and a soft scrub brush. You want to be careful not to dive straight into hard chemicals and abrasives with non-stick coatings. Dawn does wonders!!
Hi, I am so late in seeing this comment but YES the soft cleanser is the best one in my opinion. I have tried the powder cleanser and I don't love it as much.
Boiling the tray in water with Oxy-Clean for a half hr. or so should work, if you have something large enough to hold the tray. If you every have burnt / carbonized food in a steel pot, this method is a miracle worker. Zero elbow grease required . One scoop of Oxy-Clean will do the trick. How Oxy-Clean will work with aluminum though, I'm not sure. I guess you could boil some aluminum foil as an experiment.
As a last ditch effort to chemically remove burnt food from a stainless steel surface, NaOH (sodium hydroxide, "lye") could work. Do not use on aluminum (NaOH dissolves it). That's a very harsh chemical though used to dissolve organic material, so use with high caution and protective gear meant to withstand it. Be careful with the cleanup, diluting heavily before pouring down the drain. Might be safer to just buy a new tray. Or do what someone else said and spend some careful time with a razer blade. Cheers!
Oh wow, I will need to just buy a new one because that sounds too dangerous for someone as clumsy as me. Appreciate you leaving the advice for others though!!
@@AfterTap You'll need to scrub with an SOS/Brillol pad afterwards, but it should come off. I bought a Breville Smart Oven Air a few months ago. It's a great Oven, but a PITA to keep clean.
@@AfterTap it's also the best way to clean stovetop grates from gas ranges. put everything in an enclosed plastic container (or a closed up garbage bag) with some ammonia and let it sit overnight. Next day it all washes off easy peasy.
Question: One thing i didn't see is how to rinse off all that stuff. Is water ok (minimally used, of course)? Thanks for a great video. Am cleaning right now! :)
Hi Anita, I am so late in answering your question, I'm sure you figured it out. Yes, just a sponge with water works perfectly. Rinse often and keep just damp not soaking.
I tried this and have the cleaning paste stuck in some deep hard to reach cracks and crevices. Would it be safe to just leave it there and continue using my toaster oven?
Hi Jack, I am SO late in seeing this comment but if you're still looking for advice, I recommend getting out as much of the paste out as possible. Luckily with baking soda and vinegar, both are safe to consume. If you were using a pure cleaning chemical paste, then I would be more uncomfortable with you leaving residue in the crevasses.
@@AfterTap Very late haha. I ended up just leaving the bits I couldn't get, have been using my toaster oven the past 4 months and it so far has been fine and I'm still alive haha
Vinegar and baking soda cancel each other out. One is high pH and other low pH. The baking soda will have some grittiness which will help but using them separately would be better.
Can you make a video making macarons in your toaster oven because I am trying to make macarons in the same oven and I have to not figured it out yet. Good luck and Thank you!
I just did the first clean up of my Wolfgang Pressure Oven (essentially a toaster oven on steroids with steam baking), after almost 5 years of weekly use, and just used about 1/3 can of some 5+ year old Easy-off (in 2 passes), and it was really a relatively quick (with 1/2 hour waits) and very effective cleaning, albeit a bit stinky from the fumes (it was the older version). Perhaps this would have worked for you.
Just ignore the soiling on the crumb tray. It's polymerised oils and sugars (plastic). It causes no problems. As for a suggestion, when listening to music like that, it's best to use a long metal skewer inserted forcefully into one eardrum, through the brain and out the other eardrum - good as new!
Instead of a gritty paste to scrub, how about using melamine sponges (aka Mr Clean Magic Eraser)? I buy them for a LOT cheaper in bulk at eBay. Works to clean the glass door, racks, drip pan, crumb tray, and outside of the shell. There's no magic involved. Melamine sponges have an equivalent of 3000 grit (5 times finer than toothpaste). Melamine sponges will crumble fall apart (they're soft), so you need many, and why I buy them for cheap in bulk. You can add water to the sponge, but that's only because water is a solvent. Of course, you could dissolve baking soda in vinegar (which has water) to soak the melamine sponge. I suspect after all that work to clean the toaster oven, you might now think about using aluminum foil on the drip pan and crumb tray. About the only time I cook directly on the racks is for pizza (crispier crust than using a perforated pizza pan), and melamine sponges work very well to clean the racks. I could lay foil on the rack and slice between the rails, but the sponges work well.
This is all such great insight and advice Lee, thank you!! I have never tried the Mr Clean Magic Eraser for the toaster oven but I'm curious to! YES, we have been a lot more diligent with the toast oven since this video was made ahaha...SO.MUCH.WORK.

What if you boil the water, insert the pod, pour in the sink or pale, and let the bottom sheet sit in that for awhile; see if that works.
The soaking for the tray won't work. What's worked for me is a baking soda and peroxide paste mix, cover the area and let sit for several hours or overnight. You could use a Brillo pad or rough sponge to wipe it off, you'll barely have to scrub. Hope this helps
Great suggestion Bri! I ended up just covering the tray with tin foil but I will have to try this, thank you!
@@AfterTap you're welcome!
Honestly, on mine, even the peroxide/baking soda paste did very little.
I'd pay for a self-cleaning feature on a countertop oven
ME TOO.
So would I
I might have to throw mine out 😞 and buy a new one. Something dripped onto the element and it stinks up the house for hours when I use it --- and I use it daily
@@camouflagejumpsuit I would put it outside and turn the temperature on max and just let whatever it is burn off or cook off. Might take a while though
If you soak the tray in boiling water, it melts the baked on fat and comes clean easily with a brillo pad.
That's a great tip, thank you Margaret!!
Exactly what I've been doing:) Although I squirt the tray with Dawn soap then pour the boiling water and submerge it. Followed up by SOS. My Breville is going on 6 yrs old:)
I would like to understand the rechrome thing better
I just cleaned my tray with dawn in hot water with a Brillo pad. Cleaned it right up with a little scrubbing
Okay wow, jealous! That wasn't doing the trick for mine!
I have to same oven but what did you use to scrub the inside of the oven?
Hi there, I used baking soda and vinegar paste then let is sit overnight if you can. Wipe away with warm water or more vinegar. Let me know if you have any troubles!!
I'm definitely interested in cleaning an air fryer please!
My ninja foodie toaster is a mess
I have a Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro, with the quartz heating elements. Breville manual states, "gently rub a soft, damp sponge or cloth along the length of the heating element. Do not use any type of cleanser or cleaning agent. Do not use any standard oven cleaner to clean the interior of the oven as this will deteriorate the metal surface." So how do I clean the quartz elements once they get covered and discolored from air frying oily things? They don't look nice at all.
In general breville replacement parts are really reasonable. Sometimes I find myself just sitting around order an extra parts
I love it when manufacturers have extra parts. Including extra racks!
Can you put the tray in the dishwasher?
I’ve seen a cookie sheet with similar staining cleaned with oven cleaner. Also I have successfully used tin foil to wrap the tray in mine, but then found out it could be a potential safety hazard and stopped.
Fair enough!! Appreciate you watching and sharing!
Yeah: the manual for my toaster oven specifically warns against it, saying the oven could overheat. :(
Brillo. It doesn't scratch and eliminate all that grease. Clean the tray after you use it. I use sometimes oven cleaner, guilty but them I wipe it off several time with a damp rag.
I haven't tried Brillo! Thanks for the suggestion John!
I recommend a editing program that allows you to edit different sound tracks volumes.
same problem for me. no like because of that
Absolutely hear you on this Jillian! Excuse the terribly pun. This is probably the hardest part of editing these videos for me and something I'm working on with future videos. Appreciate you watching nonetheless!
Dremel with wire brush or a paint scraper can remove the tray buildup. Both methods will scratch it a bit
So useless.
Glad I saw this before cleaning~!
I don’t use aluminum foil and I remember something about it being a fire hazard. But I see it used a lot in countertop oven videos.
Try putting them crates and tray in ammonia overnight. Either a tote or h
garbage bag closed tight.
Mean green works amazingly
Okay, I'm not sure how I missed this comment but it is SUPER helpful!! Thank you for sharing your insight Barbie!!
It's way easier clean it after every time you use it! 😉
You're telling me!! 😅😅
Thanks mom!
Yep just give it a quick wipe down and you're done.
Who has time for that?
Also spray the tray and grate with easy off fumeless oven cleaner and let it sit for a few hours.
:( It completely RUINED mine because I left it on too long. :(((
I've cleaned stuff like that tray before just using dish soap and hot water, what you need are steel wool, a plastic scraper and a hard brush with the plastic scraper on the backside. While the tray or pot is completely submerged, that's when you scrape and scrub.
What is the BFK product you used to remove the yellow stain?
Hi Alma! I used the Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser. It works like magic!
To clean the bottom tray, you should try steel wool and baking soda, this plastic scrub pads dont work well for really bad stains
That's a great idea!! I didn't try steel wool. Thanks for watching!!
A razor blade is useful too to clean the tough gunk.
@@AfterTap just cleaned mine and used steel wool
My Breville toaster oven has a "non stick" coating on the inside, sides and back. Any thoughts on the best way to clean that surface?
Hi Eileen! I'm sure you've found a solution by now (sorry for the late reply), but honestly start with Dawn dish soap and a soft scrub brush. You want to be careful not to dive straight into hard chemicals and abrasives with non-stick coatings. Dawn does wonders!!
She’s right. And Dawn is used on wild animals in cases of oil spills.
steel wool wouldprobably work for the burnt-on areas
How do you clean melted plastic off the top of your black surface toaster over?
did u use soft cleanser bkf???
Why do people mix baking soda and vinegar for cleaning? Is there something about a neutral acetate? I'd use one or the other, not both.
Soak the crumb tray overnigth in ammonia. Doesn't need to be submerged. Just enough in there to give off ammonia funes.
Oh wow really?! That's good to know. I've always been nervous to clean with such a powerful solution.
Parchment paper remove when needed fir trays aluminum can catch on fire with oil drips
I did the paste and put it on, but now it’s stuck everywhere. How do I get it out of the crevices?
Hi Chrystle, once it is completely dry, use a microfiber cloth with a bit of vinegar on it to wipe away the paste and stuck on gunk. Hope this helps!
Toothbrush helps in the crevices.
Currently looking at my dirty toaster oven and watching your video lol and hoping you can teach me how to clean it lol 😅
Ahaha not an expert but I hope some of these ideas helped you in cleaning yours!!
Use a scouring pad the matel wire one
Good video. ... Subbed. 👍
Thank you so much for watching!!!
Same oven, same issue, thank you! 🙌🏼
Thank you for watching Maxwell!!
Does anyone know what type of. Sponge she is using
Vinegar and baking soda cancel each other out. One is high pH and other low pH. The baking soda will have some grittiness which will help but using them separately would be better.
Can you make a video making macarons in your toaster oven because I am trying to make macarons in the same oven and I have to not figured it out yet. Good luck and Thank you!
DerpsterSarah Lie I wish!😂 I am not a good baker/cook!
Kyle sounds like a smart guy. Maybe tell him it's a $400 toaster oven.
Does it make you less using the oven?
YES, we have been a lot more diligent with the toast oven since this video was made ahaha...SO.MUCH.WORK.
scrub daddy power paste always takes every bit of grease/burnt on food from the crumb tray.
If you haven't discovered it yet, you might try a solution of Boraxo and water in a tub overnight. I use this with my main oven and BBQ grills.
Okay I have never tried Boraxo! I had to Google it. On my list now.
Walmart has a scouring stick that works wonders on the tray as well as inside the oven
Oh wow, I haven't tried this. I'll look next time I go! Since filming, this toaster oven is in need of love again (not as bad though thankfully lol). Thanks for watching!
Oh my I just ordered a Breville Pro. I hope mine doesn’t get this dirty with regular upkeep, but then we are retired & have more time. I would fear ants... if left anything this dirty. Thank you for showing clean up. I use bar keepers powder for stainless sink & once in a grungy rented cabin toilet. Jeanne
Hi Jeanne, yours will not get this bad!!! Regular upkeep and no "Easy Off" and you should be golden. I hope you enjoy it, we've loved ours!!
What would happen if you use the oven cleaner spray on your toaster oven?
My fiance actually did that a few months prior to filming this video and it stripped the metal to be rough. We used Easy Off. I wouldn't recommend (at least for this model/in my experience!). Thanks for watching!
I just cleaned mine and it stopped working. I wonder if water got inside the oven 😟
Can you please send me the things you used to clean your toaster oven? I did get baking soda and vinegar. I am 76 yrs. old and I'm not as fast as I use to be. By the way that was a good video!
Bar keeper
We have toaster oven door hinge issues.
