Note for an international audience - in the UK and I believe most of Europe, the dishwasher is only plumbed into the cold water supply and includes a built-in water heater. Running the hot water before the dishwasher will make no difference at all. The other tips are all good though :)
All dishwashers sold in North America ever since the automatic dishwasher was invented has a built-in heater. Plumbing into the hot water tap allows it to get to temp faster.
@@sugar4o Sure, you MAY use it, but it's not required and so most households use cold water only. Btw some dishwashers use cold water to help the condensation, so that your dishes dry better. So hot water would actually worsen the performance.
For those worried about "wasting water" to heat it before running the dishwasher, try this...completely clean your kitchen, then wash your hands last using hot water. You've likely got food or a cleaner on your hands anyway, right? Now, you can start your dishwasher--with hot water--and not worry about wasting it. No worries! 🙏 BTW, hot water in the first rinse cycle DOES actually make a difference, so this is worth doing. Great tip, Kallie!
I'd also like to point out that, depending on where you live and the time of year, your cold tap water may already be quite warm or hot. My cold tap has been soooo hot this summer because I live in a place where it's over 100° every day 😊
What I do that works out well is run the hot water but collect it into a pitcher and then pour the still cool water into my gravity fed water purifier (Berkey). It usually takes two fills of the pitcher before I get hot water. If we don't need to fill the Berkey up at that time, I will either sit the pitcher aside until we do, or use it to water plants or fill birdbath. At any rate that would be water I would use in any case so it doesn't go to waste.
Love your tips on not wasting water- they make so much sense that I figured out some of them by myself (lol!). Then when you turn on the dishwasher, you can walk ot of the kitchen with everything done and clean! We also have a Bosch and I love it - even cleaning the filter is easy!
Dishwasher Pods dissolve and leave tiny micro plastics on everything in your dishwasher and the water going down the drain is polluted with micro plastics. Terrible product.
Good video....another tip is to remove your dishwasher arms/spinners occasionally and check there is nothing blocking the little holes....if there is food lodged in them it will not be washing your dishes thoroughly ...take a needle and unblock the holes! 💫
I have a Bosch dishwasher and I love it. I have no proof of what I am about to say BUT the coincidence is to strong. I have used pods for years and my wife was getting sick of having to unwrap them. Happy wil happy life. I buy pods with dissolving wrapper on them. After a couple weeks of using these pods(which were a name brand) I started getting an e24 or e25 code every 4 to 6 loads. Keep in mind I have had this dishwasher for more than 4 years. I clean it monthly and we didn’t change anything else with how we load the machine. The only change has been the pods. Being stubborn I finished the 90 pods cursing every tie I had to drain the unit and reset the codes. I have switched back to the old pods in the wrappers and after 3m weeks I have not had a single error code. Just one man’s experience. Great video.
My goodness YES!!! The error code we get is E22. It’s so frustrating. I just assumed something was blocking the spinner and it messed up the cycle. I’m getting new detergent now.
I’m betting she watched Alec’s videos on dishwashers over on Technology Connections. I did and switched to the cheap powder detergent. Dishes always come out squeaky clean!
I've seen that episode, and I find the pods (specifically the Cascade ones) I really only need for pots & pans, otherwise they start to look a bit tarnished. Otherwise I'm good with a small amount of liquid detergent. So they get used 1-2x a week.
* Your Thank you for this. Great tips. I have a slimline dishwasher & only need to put it on once a week, as it’s only me at home & I don’t use many dishes etc. A tip I have is to open the dishwasher after it’s finished. That way it dries more quickly.
Friend, you have a Bosch. Sorry to tell you, you can put week-old, crusty dishes upside down and inside out, and they will come out of the Bosch crystal clean! Bosch dishwashers are amazing. Whirlpools not so much - even with all these tips that I practice.
I also hate my Bosch. I have to pre wash my water glasses because any chapstick I might have used will not wash off and they often come out of the wash with the rims not clean, even using the sanitize cycle. i also hate the soap dispenser; the latch is so finicky. But I do love the third rack for flatware.
Before I used my new dish washer 10 years ago, I Read The Manual (not every page). Two things were the best: running the hot water to the sink and how to fill this particular dishwasher based on the way it was designed.
Oh my goodness! So after watching this video I decided to try the powdered detergent on the door for the rinse cycle. Life changing! I always scrubbed the casserole dish by hand after cheesy scalloped potatoes because the burnt cheese never came off in the dishwasher. Never scrubbing that thing again. Thank you so much!!!
Very good advice. The plumber recently told me to run the hot water before starting the dishwasher. His reasoning is that it saves on the wear and tear on the appliance as it normally heats the water before running. I was also told when I purchased my new Bosch about 3 years ago to never rinse the dishes. The dish wash works best when it has actual food to remove. I also always use the finish Jet-Dry and the indicator tells me when more is needed to be added. There are never water spots on the glassware and everything sparkles. I did have a bottle of dish wash gel to use up and found that it doesn't work anywhere near a well as the pods. What I absolutely love with the Bosch is the upper 3rd. drawer for flat items and the adjustable middle drawer.
If the detergent doesn’t have food to work on, it will attack the inside of the dishwasher. Think about it. Makes sense. I used to wait until I had a full load, but now will wash a partial load if I know the next load (usually dinner) will be too much and I will have to hand wash what doesn’t fit.😊
💫THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!💫 I was literally struggling with my dishwasher last night, & here you are coming in clutch with a dishwasher tips video! This is exactly why I started following Kallie years ago. If you haven't subscribed yet... What are you waiting for, just do it already. I've honestly learned so much from her, & she always has the best recommendations!
I saw a segment about loading your dishwasher on a morning show and learning how to load my silverware properly. Actually using those fold down separater things. Works wonders loading the eating utensils with the handle down and not having your spoons accidentally touching. Knives go in blade down. We only put our butter knives in the dishwasher and always hand wash our other cutlery 😊
Thank you! My partner and I disagree about loading the dishwasher frequently - but as he ever empties the dishwasher, he doesn’t see the evidence that his method doesn’t work so well! To be fair, when it comes to packing the trunk, he wins every time 😊
We actually have the same dishwasher! I really like the fact that it is super quiet, but I have found that it works better when it’s not completely full. Thanks for the tips! I am going to try all of them!
Me, too! In fact the quiet is the only thing I like about my dishwasher! I can actually run the dishwasher and still relax and watch tv, and hear it, too!
I moved into an apartment and the dishwasher was broken. So when they brought the new one I did actually read the manual. lol then ensued the back and forth debate with my husband that he was loading the dishwasher incorrectly 😂. Also, it is NOT recommended to put sharp knives in the dishwasher. They will dull faster that way. Just hand wash them.
I hand wash sharp knives, wooden things including spoons, bowls, etc., non-stick skillets or just about any skillet or large pot, or large container, or wine glasses ever since I loaded them and broke the stem of one when it fell over onto another dish! As a result I have almost as many dishes to wash by hand as there are in the dishwasher? Am I alone on this?
@@PatThecat-n2l Two parts to this... one is that, in theory, heating the metal can cause it to become softer, or gain a 'memory' for the deformed shape that the edge gets into through normal wear and tear. Material memory means when you reheat the material, it wants to revert to the shape it had when it was at that temperature in the past. There are some really cool videos of this on YT here and there. However, I don't think the dishwasher gets any hotter than about 65C, which is way, way far from the deformation line even for soft metals like gold or aluminum, let alone stainless steel. The other part though is that really good kitchen knives are made from variations of carbon steel, not stainless steel (which is more durable, but doesn't take an edge as well). These knives rust easily, and the chemicals in dishwasher soap accelerate that process, as does letting them air dry (moisture + oxygen = rust). The edge is super thin, which means more surface area, which means it rusts first. So while the heat of the dishwasher doesn't hurt the knife, soaking it in caustic soap and letting it air dry definitely will. (the *other* other reason not to put a good knife in the dishwasher is that they often have wooden handles which really can't handle it) TLDR carbon steel knives will rust faster in the dishwasher. Stainless, not really an issue.
We re-did our kitchen at the beginning of covid (in our 35 year old home). In addition to the regular sized dishwasher (that's just like yours) we did a Fischer & Paykel dishwasher drawer and it's AWESOME! It fits those extra things, and it makes it much easier to never have dishes in your sink. It was in the $700 range (I can't remember how much exactly) but SO worth it. We figure when we become empty nesters (four kids, almost out of the house) we'll just use the drawer for the two of us. Thank you for reading the manuals for us!
We live on a boat and one marina we stayed at metered the water so we took full advantage of that. We have an 18” Bosch 800 series dishwasher and it used 2.4 gallons of water to wash an entire load of dishes. We usually go about 2 days before we have to run the dishwasher - 3 if we have gone out to eat - and carrying our water in remote places and making water in the Bahamas makes us very conscious of water useage. Now we know that using the dishwasher just makes sense!
I HATE to run the DW unless it’s full or close to it. I look around for stuff to add: spoon rest, microwave tray, dog dishes and placemat, sink stopper, scrub daddy, plastic dog and kid toys, plastic or glass containers from the bathroom, decorative glass or ceramic items, plant saucers, whatever’s handy. I hand wash as little as possible. If it HAS to be hand washed, I probably don’t own it!😅
But but but... Some days I just NEED that oh so satisfying feeling of TETRIS-ing the dishwasher in that way we all know no one else in our household can beat 🧩🏆
@@aliceryan3399 For years with a very old dishwasher I always rain the sink hot water until it was all hot, but now with a newer LG dishwasher I've skipped this step. Guess I'll return to pre heating
If I had any doubt about how much I love your videos this video is the proof of that. I don't own a dishwasher, never had one, never used one or saw it used in another persons home and YET I watched this entire video with pleasure. I did know the hack about turning on the tap - I have to open the sink tap in the bathroom to get my bath water hotter faster since my apartment is the farthest from the hot water tank
Great info. It's been a tough adjustment, learning not to rinse and scrub my dishes before loading. 😬 Old habits die hard. But newer clothes washers and dishwashers are so much more efficient. The tiny bit of water my HE washer uses on small loads amazes me. And studies show that the new dishwashers use less water than handwashing. I feel confident even in drought-plagued CA that I am doing my best. Even if I run some water to heat it up, (I can handwash a couple of things), it is so much less water than in years past. Thank you!
Also run your disposal while waiting for the water to get hot. The water filters through there so make sure it’s nice and clean before you turn on your dishwasher.
Look on the bottom of washer. It’s before the drain. Generally a strainer, under that is a smaller particulate filter. I do maintenance on a lot of appliances. Manage around 30 properties. Remember if you have large scraps on your dishes it will be caught. They are not magical machines. They just spray water to clean. Pre rinse your dishes. Also, make sure you run your water when you use your garbage disposal.
Another consideration on the pods is whether or not it is exposing us to more micro plastics. So for me, even if they demonstrated some measure of cleaning over the powder or liquid, I would still choose the powder or liquid.
I have a hot water circulating pump on my water heater. The shower, which is the farthest away from the heater, has hot water in less than 5 seconds. This device is a game changer for water usage!!
Great video! Besides cleaning the filter each month I also do two other things. I run an empty DW with a cleaning pod to Clean the DW. Affresh is the brand I am currently using. The other is to take the spray jets off and check to see if any food particle are stuck in the holes. I have little instruments I have collected I use to get those boogers out.
Nice video,I never thought to add detergent for the rise cycle. I'm going to start doing that. One tip I'd add is to run the garbage disposal before you start. It'll help make sure the dishwasher can drain properly.
Thanks TPM, I just cleaned the filter on our dishwasher after 9 years of use. Let's say it took 4 full minutes to clean it completely and it doesn't smell anymore. Can't be more grateful to learn that there was a filter right there at the bottom.
I am one of those who usually read manual, but on this machine if have not. Thanks for the reminder. I put a clean "Finish dishwasher cleaner tablet " in mine once a month. It cleans the machine that cleans. hehe
TIP: Save power & water by installing a recirculation pump that’s mounted to the water heater itself. A 120-volt pump mounts to the hot water line and includes a timer. At the sink farthest from the water heater, a thermostatically controlled bypass valve is installed; hot water is automatically circulated through the hot water line at pre-set times. So I now have instant hot water at 8:00 pm to run my dishwasher.
That’s good info about the pre wash compartment but My dishwasher does not come apart easy like that to clean the filter. I have lots of screws to remove to get to mine. I’ve only cleaned it twice. I’m not taking it apart once a month. Too much work. So that is why I pre rinse my dishes. The less gunk to get into the inner part of my dishwasher the better for me.
Maybe just scrape food off but leave a rescue for the dw soap to cling to The dw soap wks better then I use a rubber spat but don’t do a thorough job, just get the majority. No water needed.
As a bachelor who is rarely home, I found this VERY informative for the load of dishes I have to run each month, sometimes every other month. Thank you.
Great Video! Thanks. I switched from pods to Norwex Ultrazyme and added the Norwex magnet ball so I could use even less Ultrazyme. I put a bit of the Ultrazyme in the rinse cycle and it has made a huge difference. I love your hot water hack!
Nobody talks about our appliances and most of us use them, at the very least not optimally. So thank you!!! Very useful and most likely a little bit of resources will be spared too by all of those who use yr advice 😊 Lots of love to all!
This is all fantastic advice. I've been an in-home service tech for 17 years and I really just watch these videos to see what kind of bad advice people are giving out there; but she had everything spot on. The only thing I would add are: 1. Run your garbage disposal before starting the dishwasher. 2. Use rinse aid. 3. If you use heavy wash, there's no need to run the water at the sink until it's hot first.
Great video! One thing I would add is if you ever get dishes that come out smelling like wet dog, that's bacteria growing in the dishwasher. Adding a cup of vinegar into the wash cycle once a week or so will keep the bacteria from growing and ensure your dishes always come out smelling clean and fresh.
My dishwasher (I live in Poland, I'm not sure if the country makes any difference , maybe it's just about the type of the dishwasher) uses cold water first and it cannot be attached to hot water , the cold water heats up- so the first tip is no use for me but I certainly will try the other tips!
@3:21 I know this reason but thanks for clarification because if anyone puts regular liquid kitchen or hand soap into their dishwasher their kitchen room will soon be full of suds flooding the entire kitchen!!! I did this ONCE as a teenager and quickly learned a lesson ! 🏃♀️..... 🤬
Thankfully, I think my manual for my 12 yr old Maytag is still in a drawer. I cannot find any filter on mine, just a big rubber stopper thing on the right bottom that does not seem as if it's supposed to be removed, but, trying to pull it up showed a lot of nasty gunk underneath it. The surface of the interior has a lot of black residue on it even though I've used dishwasher cleaners more than once. I do think now I need to pull out that manual! Thanks a bunch for the suggestions. I've never used the pre-wash section. Definitely using that now! And next time, I'm getting a stainless interior!~Cynthia
It took me a while but I finally learned how to correctly use my dishwasher. I was doing okay but finally, when my dishwasher had an off-putting smell, I realized a filter was in the bottom. Then, thought maybe I should be using that little prewash detergent cup. (yay me). But, my nemesis was the gasket. I bought a little spin brush by Rubbermaid and use it around the inside of the gasket with a bit of baking soda before I run a cleaning cycle. When the cycle is done I wipe the gasket out with some paper towel. No more moldy gasket!
@@margarita5155 Inside the dishwasher, all around the door opening there should be a gasket to seal in the water. There may be one on the bottom of the door also. I found mold when I ran a paper towel under the one on the bottom of the door. I checked the side and top door gasket and there it was...more mold. That's when I bought two of those Rubbermaid spin brushes. I have one for the bathroom that stays in the bathroom and one for the kitchen that stays in the kitchen.
Hey Kallie, thank you for this video. You've explained more things in your video than others (I've watched a few). I would like to share your video with my family but they don't speak/understand English too well. Is there a possibility for you to enable German subtitles because for now, there are only English ones? If not, would you allow me to use your video and translate it into German? Kind regards 💖
Aha moment here..... cleaning the filter! Thank you for that! I'm not a manual reader either.... I live alone so like your Mom, I stuff my dishwasher and I rinse everything first. I basically clean the dishes then put them in the dishwasher. I don't think I'll be able to change that. I run my dishwasher an average of every 3 days. Thank you again for the tip! I may or may not need to clean the filter, but I'm going to from now on.
We have a Bosch dishwasher and I hate it. One thing that made a difference for me was that the Bosch tech told me that using the Bosch 'recommended' Finish products is nonsense. They don't work best for Bosch, they just have like a promo partnership. I ditched Finish and things are much better. Also, lots of dishwashers have a rinse aid dosing setting option. They generally come out of the box set to the highest dosing setting. If your dishes have a chemical taste/smell after dishwashing, check your manual for how to reduce the rinse aid dosing level. Level two or three works well for our Bosch.
It really has an awful post- wash taste! I'm in Australia, and I have found the perfect Bosch combo is Aldi (Logix) dishwasher tablets and our Coles (big supermarket) brand rinse aid. Every so often I chuck some Euca powder (natural dishwasher powder based on various sodium ingredients and eucalyptus oil) in the bottom of the dishwasher when I run a dishes cycle. This seems to clean out the pipes, which I have found improves overall performance. Our Bosch also likes to have its filter rinsed once a week, and demands machine care if we don't. I am murderously hateful towards my dishwasher and spent a lot of time figuring out how to make it function in a way that doesn't make me want to take a sledgehammer to it. Lol.
@@rachelboothroyd208Fellow Australian with a Bosch too - we used to use Fairy - they cleaned exceptionally well but they ruined our silicone items. We use Logix too. Tried Finish and they were rubbish. Haven’t tried the Euca powder, Google tells me it’s a laundry powder??
@architecturaldream1 if you have a look at the Euca website, you'll see that they have a bunch of products, one being dishwasher powder. I actually emailed them after I tried Euca and found my dishes weren't dry at the end of the cycle (they say not to use rinse aid with their dishwasher powder). They told me that Bosch dishwashers demand rinse aid to function properly, and they were the ones who recommended the Coles rinse aid. Pairing this with the Euca powder did improve things, but still didn't give dry enough dishes, hence the Logix tablets. Before I started popping Euca into the bottom of the dishwasher every so often (I still use the Logix tab in the dispenser when I do this), I would find that I'd get to a point where my dishes were coming out clean but greasy. The Bosch tech said that unclean pipes will do that, so it seems Euca cleans out the pipes as it claims to do. Have tried the Euca rinse aid, and sadly it doesn't dry the dishes like the Coles one does. Best of luck with your future dishwashing endeavours!
I have a 30 year old town house with the original dishwasher. And ive never cleaned that filter once and ive lived here 22yrs! Im going to have to check that out, haha
My mother in law just purchased that same dishwasher after having the same one for over 20 years. Please make a video with tips on that particular appliance PLEASE!
About running your faucet to get hot water near your dishwasher before starting. My dishwasher, and probably most, have a heating element at the bottom (usually looks like a large black ring visible in the lower part of your washer) that heats the water to a warm temperature before it starts any cycle. Therefore, you maybe just wasting water by running it in advance.... unless your heating element has gone bad and needs replacement. There are TH-cam videos on how to check and replace the element. That element is plainly visible in your dishwasher video at 5:41. Yours is rectangular and in the rear.
I learned most of this stuff about dishwashers myself last year at the young age of 37 after watching TH-cam videos on them. Yes I have reached the adult stage to watch this stuff now! Anyhow, you forgot one small tip and that is to use the rinsing aid by adding it to your dishwasher dispenser. You can use the cheaper brands it doesn't really matter but using rinsing aid will make the dishes come out dryer with less possible streaks. Happy dish washing!
Thanks for the great info the one problem that I always had is my dishwasher pods don’t fit correctly in the dishwasher soap holder they’re a little too tall so I would have to use a rubber mallet and give them a couple hits, to crush them down some , so they fit in the soap container. I like the hot water idea and I like the adding a squirt of soap idea. Thanks again
For the filters, I bought a second one and I will rinse it off in the sink to get the big particles off of it, then wash it it in the dishwasher using the second one in the washer and rotate them. Works great as they can get very dunked up over time.
Good video. Also, on most dishwashers, you can remove the spray bars and clean them. Sometimes, the spray holes will be completely plugged. This makes a big difference.
Good video👌🏻 You also have to remember to replace salt and rinse aid liquid every time the led light monitor turns on... Many forget to do this and dishes start coming out dirty!
Our newest dishwasher has steam for a prewash option. It's an optional cycle that runs before the initial rinse, and is especially nice with the delay setting. We prefer to run our supper dishes overnight rather than immediately after eating, so that steam cycle really breaks down the little bits that get missed when scraping our plates.
I get the best results with cascade pods. Have tried several other brands. I prerinse the big stuff off of the dishes, then put one pod in the tub and one pod in the holder. Works really well. GE dishwasher, nothing extra fancy. Fill it up for the most part, average one cycle per day with 5 people in the house.
Put 1/2 cup of vinegar into the dishwasher for the rinse cycle. It keeps your drain clean. I strongly recommend dry soap the pods can gum up everything.
Good advice on not overloading. It’s tempting to do but it’s also logical that it’s not a magic cleaner box that can take anything you throw at it. I also find doing half loads in the dryer and adding a dry towel gets the job done quicker and doesn’t wreck your clothing. Overheating the water in your fabrics and not allowing it to evaporate quickly messes things up. I also take things outside to 80-90% dry in the summer and then finish them in the dryer at night for the softer feel. Use the God given solar/wind dryer when you have it. Blankets smell incredible fully dried in the sun.
I wash my filters every other week and do a clean cycle every month where after washing the filters and topping up salt and rinse aid (I use white vinegar as it does the same job for way less money) I put a cleaner in the dishwasher and run the hottest cycle (NB do not put anything in this cycle, just the cleaning fluid bottle) I will wash my kitchen bins, drainer racks and washing up bowl in the dishwasher prior to the monthly clean cycle to ensure they all get a good wash once a month too. I will do the running the hot water prior to turning on the washer and putting a little dish soap on the door as I do not have a prewash detergent area (difference between USA & GB 🤷🏻♀️. ❤❤
Similar to me. Run a clean cycle every month, my dishwasher is still like new because of it. And wipe all the door and rubbers after as well so everything stays clean. Hoping it will make it last longer. Surprised she didn't mention a clean cycle to be honest. Also being in the UK the dishwasher is plumbed into the cold water so running the hot water tap isn't going to help us! 😅
@@thefishwillbearmed7391 🤭 of course we are plumbed up to the cold supply, silly me, I won’t run the hot water then but will try a dab of dish soap to see if it helps. We recently moved so I have the previous owners old dishwasher (which got a thorough clean first) and it is rubbish. New kitchen being installed next month so won’t be long before I have my new one 😃. ❤️
@@thefishwillbearmed7391 It irks me to have to run water just to get it hot! It's the same in the master shower! I hate it! Next on my list is a new water heater!
We have the same Bosch dishwasher that you showed. I pulled the flatware holder out of it and line up our flatware between the slots on the very top drawer. This gives me more room for dishes, pots and pans on the bottom drawer.
I don't know the research of this or even if it is true, but...my elderly parents were having plumbing issues in their kitchen and it turned out that the plastic pods don't dissolve completely sometimes and their plumber pulled out so many half-dissolved dishwasher pods from the water line...he claimed it was very common and recommended my mom go back to the the powder or gel in a bottle...since then she has had no issues.
Maybe their water heater isn’t set high enough. When we moved into our house the dishwasher didn’t work. The plumber who took it apart discovered years worth of undissolved detergent stuck to all the parts. It had to be replaced because there was no way to fix it. We discovered that the water heater was set at its lowest rate.
You must live in a area that has lots and lots of water. Living in California it would never enter my mind to 'run' my faucet until it got warm before starting my dishwasher. Nor, would I ever dream of using my dishwasher unless it was full. I would just fill it, wash the dishes, take the clean dishes away, then put the remaining dishes in the dishwasher and wait until it was full and start it the next day. We really all have enough dishes to get through a whole day without using all that water twice a day.
Technology Connections did a cool video of dishwashers a while back where he actually cut a hole in the side and installed plexiglass so he could SEE what was going on. He gave a lot of these tips too. Mine does well enough, but it WILL NOT properly clean something I COOKED in.
I have a little rounded dish 'squeegee' to scrape my dishes into the trash first and that has really helped with small seeds, etc. clogging the holes in the sprayer arms. Then it runs through with the rest of the items in the dishwasher.
I don’t have a dishwasher but it’s good to know this stuff anyway. You never know. Thanks for sharing this. You aren’t alone. I hate owners manuals also . What is the deal with that? Why do people hate owners manuals? You even get one with your car and it’s as thick as a catalog…ok maybe not that bad but it’s pretty thick. God bless and thanks for your videos!
I've tried not pre-rinsing before running my dishwasher and if I don't, my dishes will not be clean. Also, 50% of the time, the dishwasher pod will get stuck inside the dispenser and will still be hanging there, glued in place by the "dissolvable" plastic casing after the dishwasher is done running. So, I just throw the pod into the bottom. Doing these 2 things is the only way my dishes come out clean. My dishwasher is a Whirlpool Gold. I guess it just sucks.
Yeah, I never thought of the hot water pre cycle. The dishwasher and kitchen sink shares the same source on that. Pretty cool. The little powder soap for the dirty dishes pre wash , great idea
So true! Our appliance repairman told us about the hot water trick, and he also said to run the garbage disposal beforehand too. I love the Great Value dishwasher pods. Theyre simple and effective! I also have 3 kids and do dishes twice a day too, i feel ya! 😂
Callie, for years, I’ve ran my tap water to hot, before starting my dishwasher. My problem is that, due to using pods, my soap door no longer opens. I checked online and I understand this is a common downside to using pods. So, I do put my pod in the silverware holder, so it must be washing during the initial rinse.
Throw in a little peroxide in the soap dispenser every now and then and it will clean the dishwasher itself. That’s just a dishwasher cleaning tip not dishes. Been putting a splash of dawn in pre rinse slot and it’s been good
I just bought a 3 tier dishwasher love it. I don't use the pods for me they are a waste of money you get more with the powder. We usually do 2 loads a day to
Question: Can you offer suggestions to prevent White Powdery Surfaces, esp. on dark plastic coffee mugs & stuff? Thanks so much for another great video loaded w/ great advice ❤
Greatest tip ever, make sure the water coming out of the sink is hot, also add a little soap in the pre-wash, the pods unfortunately contain microplastics
My dishwasher has a mini garbage disposal in it called a "food chopper," so even after taking everything apart, I found that everything is pristine even after 15 years, and I actually don't have anything to clean, including the filter.
I’m confused … you say don’t rinse because it wastes water … but also run the water so it gets hot? I like the tip about the pre wash … never thought about adding soap but I’m sure it helps!
❤Great video for those who need the info! ❤️What NO one needs…the condescending comments by viewers, disguised as helpful tips, using “friend” or the like….negative and unnecessary. Why can’t people just move on and not feel like they are entitled to be nasty or self-important …⁉️😵💫

Sure, you MAY use it, but it's not required and so most households use cold water only.
I always have a few things to handwash as well as scrubbing the sink and therefore have hot water ready to go.
That's what my husband would do until he realized he could separate the pieces (which made cleaning way easier/faster)
The title cut off for me so I thought it was “your dishwasher doesn’t suck… you do!”
And I still clicked so fast 😂
😂😂
Girl, please tell me everything I'm doing wrong!! 😂😂😂
😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Nope, the title is YOU ARE dishwasher
@ please follow up in a couple weeks if the change works. I’m real curious.
I finally got a box of cheap walmart detergent lol. Just as good as the pods or name brand, but I can dose less so my glasses don't get cloudy.
Yes! I watched the same video and now I only buy Walmart brand powder. My dishes are so much cleaner!
I watched it too lol I like his break downs

Thank you for this.

I hate my Bosch.
I also hate my Bosch. I have to pre wash my water glasses because any chapstick I might have used will not wash off and they often come out of the wash with the rims not clean, even using the sanitize cycle. i also hate the soap dispenser; the latch is so finicky. But I do love the third rack for flatware.
I love our Bosch too. I stack it very efficiently and I put SO much in it and rarely does anything need a second round.
@@flynn1atry going back to powder detergent. (and jet dry)walmart brand is cascade.. and rinse aid is jet dry.
@@ellenot558 that’s what I use now
I wash my pots and pans by hand and I get my hot water going that way, and then I turn my dishwasher on. That way you’re not wasting water at all.
Just remember that your dishwasher is not a garbage disposal and you will really have to make sure you clean out that filter more than once a month
I don’t believe any dishwasher could clean this once dried
All of that is the same for me. And the third rack is the thing I never knew I needed. 😁
My dishwasher doesn't get the water from the boiler, but directly from the inlet, so running hot water from the tap won't make a difference.
@@dale3404 I was told that the dish detergent will attack the finish on the plates if there is no food on it.
@@Xiroi87 Most, if not all, of the newer have built-in heaters, from what I understand.

I was literally struggling with my dishwasher last night, & here you are coming in clutch with a dishwasher tips video!
I hate washing dishes when I have a machine to do that! Supposedly!
Same
I am interested to know how the dishwasher will help to dull your knives. How does that happen?
Why with the sharp knives...I don't get that!!
(the *other* other reason not to put a good knife in the dishwasher is that they often have wooden handles which really can't handle it)
TLDR carbon steel knives will rust faster in the dishwasher.
Mind blown! Just cleaned the filter I didn’t know existed! Thank you
I HATE to run the DW unless it’s full or close to it.

I love the tip of running the water at the kitchen sink until it gets hot before starting the dishwasher! Thank you for all your great tips!
I honestly thought everyone knew to run the water hot first! Maybe I read a manual somewhere in my darkest past!
A plumber told me when he installed a new disposal that it’s best to use cold water when running the disposal because it breaks up any fats better.

Especially if you do a delayed start on the dishwasher like us, I delay it until we go to bed for it to start.
It’s ridiculous how useful and on the nose these tips are!
OMG!!!! I am 58 and just learned SO MANY tips that I am excited to try
You should totally have a podcast, your tips are so useful whether it hacks, cleaning, saving money, decluttering etc. ❤
Nice video, concise. Technology connections covered all of this like a year plus ago. Truly changed how I wash my dishes with my dishwasher
My late husband did that for us years ago. Game changer. Saves water, especially for showers which are so far from our hot water heater.
Maybe just scrape food off but leave a rescue for the dw soap to cling to
The dw soap wks better then
I use a rubber spat but don’t do a thorough job, just get the majority. No water needed.
As a bachelor who is rarely home, I found this VERY informative for the load of dishes I have to run each month, sometimes every other month.
Thank you.
Great advice. My appliance guy told me to put 3 cups full of vinegar on the top shelf and run an empty load once a month.
Just learned something new. There’s a filter in the dishwasher that needs to be cleaned once in a while. Thanks for the info! 😀

Very useful and most likely a little bit of resources will be spared too by all of those who use yr advice 😊
Lots of love to all!
Stealing content is bad, but rehashing technology connections' important takes for a different audience is something I wholeheartedly approve!

I know this reason but thanks for clarification because if anyone puts regular liquid kitchen or hand soap into their dishwasher their kitchen room will soon be full of suds flooding the entire kitchen!!!
I did this ONCE as a teenager and quickly learned a lesson !

Where is the gasket ?
@@margarita5155 Inside the dishwasher, all around the door opening there should be a gasket to seal in the water. There may be one on the bottom of the door also. I found mold when I ran a paper towel under the one on the bottom of the door. I checked the side and top door gasket and there it was...more mold. That's when I bought two of those Rubbermaid spin brushes. I have one for the bathroom that stays in the bathroom and one for the kitchen that stays in the kitchen.

I may or may not need to clean the filter, but I'm going to from now on.
You've taught afew things today!!!! Absolutely!!! And I thank you🎉. Great to see you as always❤❤❤
I quit using Finish but with your tip maybe a lesser amount will be perfect.
Use white vinegar in the rinse dispenser
I color it with food color so I can see it. 1qt vinegar takes about 2 drops.
Wks better, cheaper
I love this video. What a refreshing idea to revisit the process of using your dishwasher more effectively and efficiently!! 😊❤️
I have that same dishwasher. Love that silverware rack. Always run before it gets overloaded. Rinse aid helps too! Scrape instead of rinse!
Kallie is absolutely charming. I will be watching more of her videos. Thanks almighty algorithm for the suggestion.
Good video. Also, on most dishwashers, you can remove the spray bars and clean them. Sometimes, the spray holes will be completely plugged. This makes a big difference.
I've gone through many dishwashers over the years...by far the best is Bosch and yes, it's totally worth it!
Good video👌🏻 You also have to remember to replace salt and rinse aid liquid every time the led light monitor turns on... Many forget to do this and dishes start coming out dirty!
Salt?
@@aliceryan3399 it is to soften hard water. My machine indicates all this.😊

What make dishwasher do you have? Steam makes so much sense.
@salsarmemimi7292 it's an LG ThinQ. We've had it for a couple of years, so I feel pretty confident recommending it.
New kitchen being installed next month so won’t be long before I have my new one 😃. ❤️
@@thefishwillbearmed7391 It irks me to have to run water just to get it hot! It's the same in the master shower! I hate it! Next on my list is a new water heater!
@@thefishwillbearmed7391 Same in India too. In fact many kitchens don't have a hot water tap in the kitchen.
We have the same Bosch dishwasher that you showed. I pulled the flatware holder out of it and line up our flatware between the slots on the very top drawer. This gives me more room for dishes, pots and pans on the bottom drawer.
Great idea!
I hand wash my plastic containers and cups. It saves room in the dishwasher and it does keep my plastic things from breaking down.
We only run ours every 3 days
Ur dw is just running it instead
Or Washing with cold water
YUCK
I love the dirty labs detergent. It smells amazing and cleans my food storage containers so well!!
Catch the water you run for your dishwasher-for your plants
Thank you so much! This is so helpful. Could you also talk about the sanitize and dry features?
@tlsimonsson Use a rinse aid without dyes.
Greatest tip ever, make sure the water coming out of the sink is hot, also add a little soap in the pre-wash, the pods unfortunately contain microplastics
If my NEW LG dishwasher would actually work everytime I think that would be a good start! 😂😂🤪
Great tips, thank you! And congratulations on your upcoming new bundle of blessings!❤
My dishwasher has a mini garbage disposal in it called a "food chopper," so even after taking everything apart, I found that everything is pristine even after 15 years, and I actually don't have anything to clean, including the filter.
Those are great! My current one in a different home has no disposal. 😢
That’s very interesting! What is the make of your DW?
@@IrishD1952 Whirlpool. It's called the Quiet Partner I.
My Kitchenaid also has a food grinder not a filter that needs cleaning.
I’m confused … you say don’t rinse because it wastes water … but also run the water so it gets hot?
I like the tip about the pre wash … never thought about adding soap but I’m sure it helps!
This is useful and new advice! thanks so much, I'm looking forward to trying these
❤Great video for those who need the info! ❤️What NO one needs…the condescending comments by viewers, disguised as helpful tips, using “friend” or the like….negative and unnecessary. Why can’t people just move on and not feel like they are entitled to be nasty or self-important …⁉️😵💫
Love the hot water for the rinse cycle tip!
P.S.: no hate but it’s “your” dishwasher not “you’re” 😊
My wife did all of your steps and she fixed it. I wash dishes so much better now. 😂
