    When Tuvok hugs Janway.......
    How is it his face shows so little and yet so much emotion? Phenomenal acting.

    That scene with Janeway and Tuvok is one of the all-time greatest in Star Trek. It reminds me of the legendary friendship between Kirk and Spock. A fraternal bond of trust that goes far beyond rank, duty, honor and even love. IMO, this is the defining moment of these two great characters and the entire series.

      Kathryn's relationship with Tuvok definitely is one of the most touching in Star Trek lore. Right up there with Kirk/Spock, Picard/Data, Sisko/Dax (Curzon/Jadzia). I'd even add Archer & T'Pol, tho those writers didn't do enough with it IMO.

    I love Janeway's speech about Voyager. She's probably the only ship that got personified as such.

    • @Athanase48067
      @Athanase48067 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      i like the sort of mysticism the ship got from Delta species as their legend grew on the journey home.
      It wasn't just "that starship", it was "The Voyager", spoken like a myth

    Mulgrew always nailed Janeway for me, with each series showing that little bit of development, getting her further away from the freshly promoted Captain to the leader of a lost community on Voyager, but the Year of Hell 2 parter really was a shining moment for her in a series of great performances. The way she loses her composure here when Tuvok returns the hug, and then pulls herself together. It wrenched my heart out when it first aired, still does today.

  • @richardwaldron1684
    @richardwaldron1684 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    3:08 was the only time I can remember that Janeway allowed herself to outwardly show a little fear and vulnerability, even if it was to a blind man on an otherwise empty ship (ignore the borg :)). The way she hugs him tight for that brief moment as if a small child getting a reassuring hug from a parent was a beautiful scene, one of the best of the entire series. I've said it before and will do so again, Kate Mulgrew is a fine actress.

  • @oddish4352

    I still tear up at that scene. 😪
    Voyager does go through a lot this episode, and Kathryn does too. Burned, battered, pushed to their absolute limit. I don't think it's coincidence that they stay together to the final battle, and sacrifice themselves together to bring the nightmare to an end.

  • @paulanderson1614

    Here's one for you star trek fans. I'm not a star trek fan. This scene of Janeway and Tuvok in a hug moved me emotionally. No starfleet regulations. No policies, no regulations, no rules, no laws. A simple act of humanity, a simple act of vulcanity, in other words, a moment of love, albeit platonic as I see it. I'd like to have given Janeway a hug, and Tuvok.

  • @DEEliot-ky9cl
    @DEEliot-ky9cl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    The music in this scene is by far the best I've heard throughout all of the Star Trek shows and movies. The music in this scene also explains how humans can become emotionally bonded to inanimate objects.

    • @RS250Squid
      @RS250Squid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm watching this video because I used it as an example to illustrate the habit of humans becoming emotionally bonded to inanimate objects. I cried when after two years of faithful service, I sold my first motorcycle.

    I love that Seven stays behind to leave with Tuvok. I love that Tuvok's arms are still raised a bit after the hug, and Seven has to step in and lead him away because he's in shock.

      A truly tearful scene as Tuvok is lead away to leave Janeway alone. The music is is so sad as she walks over to her seat and sits. At that moment... the brass instrument brings out something in my heart that's unspeakable. As if it is saying,. eyen though things are dark,. the darkest hour is right before the dawn.

    As much as I love this Episode, and it *is* one of this Series' best (and ranks highly in the entire franchise overall), I feel like this scenario (Voyager all beaten up, Crew battered and exhausted, low on supplies) *should* have been the norm, especially in later years.

    Perfect metaphor...you could say voyager is not voyager and in this regard you could extend this "metaphor"(of voyager) to hope...our dreams and ideas when things are at their most dire and desperate.. I can't speak for anyone else but 3:15 -3:47...that moment where the burden of responsibility rests on her..I get it...that 32 seconds sums up the responsibility (in the face of the most dark and desperate) I personally have to myself...no matter the costs.

    I thought it was interesting that the writers made Voyager the first ship to have "bio-neural circuitry", which was a nice nuance to make it feel more life-like. It really was considered a member of the family by Janeway.
