    Very nice comparison. I went with the caad12 ultegra rim brake and im loving it. Very balanced ride, it feels like a true race bike, yet comfortable.

    Nice Vid, I had a chance to buy both bikes last November. The shop suggested I went for the Cad 12. A Cad 12 pe-build came in at £1000, the Allez Sprint £1600. I found a Demo model of the Allez for £1100. I also own a Spezialized Secture which is a comfortable bike. So going for something more aggressive was the way forward.

    Cannondale bikes are always crazy comfortable, I loved mine for that and how stable it was. The specialized was stiff as hell and great sprinting but it was definetly twitchy and I never took both hands off the bars when having a drink. The spesh absolutely looks better though.

    I have an Allez and you're on point, it's harsh and scary nimble it really shines when i feel "racy" and trow it in the corners.
    I found it to be scary in fast descents,and other beginner riders that rode the loaner allez at my lbs found the same (but i also blame the unbranded brake that came on it and the horrible ergonomics of the oldish claris) ended up buying a identical used allez that the lbs was selling.
    But i MUCH prefer my niner bsb (both on 25c tires) when going down really fast hills and riding more casual and since i live in a hilly area that a big chunk of my riding.

    The Specialized Allez falls short in a lot of categories; the Allez frames have been STIFF and I mean MEGA stiff since the E5 frames that Cipo rode. They're also twitchy and they're really just a crit bike. Anything over 40 miles and you'll get tired of holding the frame straight. CAAD frames are amazing and the 12 is actually a better frame than the 13 in many regards.

    For anyone looking today the CAAD13 it's a bit easier to find than the Allez Sprint Disc which is nearly impossible to find and Specialized, unfortunately, killed off the Allez Sprint Comp which was the cheap rim based Allez with 105 and the aero fork and carbon fork. With this said both are very good values in terms of "race" bikes but I will say the CAAD13 is the better do it all bike since it's geometry isn't nearly as aggressive as the Allez Sprint, but the Allez Sprint is the better value aero bike since it's has basically the same geometry as a Specialized Venge and is better performing than a Tarmac SL6 and a better value than the Tarmac Sl6 Sport. Yes, the Allez Sprint gets ragged on for people "overbuilding" their bikes, but the bike is that aggressive, stiff, aero, and fast that it really does compete with more expensive carbon and even full-on aero bikes. Either one would be a very good pick and both would hold their values well since these are really the last aluminum race bikes out there

      Maiden voyage today on my CAAD 12 (orange) with Campy Chorus. Terrific frame -- super stiff on the turns and tremendous power transfer climbing uphill. I also notice that when I look back, the bike stays relatively straight, it doesn't really drift to the side that I'm looking back at.

  • @andrewkelk8414

    I found that aero frame bikes lose comfort because of the seat post. Typically they don't flex due to the shape, whereas a round post allows some flexibility and takes out some harsh bumps.

    • @JustRideAdelaide
      @JustRideAdelaide  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is definitely true of the Allez. Other bikes like the Canyon Aeroad has a kammtail design on its seat post so it's aero at the front but flat at the back which lets the saddle tilt backwards. It's an amazingly comfortable bike.

    • @jrh1704
      @jrh1704 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinda makes sense. But with modern day tech and seat posts being carbon on the Allez Sprint ( and other aero bikes ), aren't they able to get carbon to flex in certain areas and stay stiff in other parts depending on how the fiber is directionally laid? I have actually read about carbon seat posts being more comfortable because of the ability to flex under a rider, an equally important advantage next to the weight savings.
      Maybe they were only referring to round carbon seat posts

    • @andrewkelk8414
      @andrewkelk8414 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jrh1704 , I'd say now, that's definitely possible. Those comments were 5 years ago. Carbon is getting better all the time. Not sure if the Allez will except any other seatpost other than the specialized one it comes with.

    An excellent review. But one small mention is that Cannondale added an hourglass head tube, TAP shaping on the down tub, fork, along with the upper seat stays, and moved water bottle placement in the name of aerodynamics vs the CAAD10. It also features internal cabling. But having ridden both I agree with your conclusion: the CAAD12 is by far the best all around bike out of the two, while still being able to feel 'fun'. The acceleration of the CAAD puts it ahead for me as well.

  • @dho
    @dho 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i'd say the allez sprint wins. why? they both try to be race oriented road bikes - very little tire clearance, aggressive geometry, and clearly not meant for comfort. if you're buying either bike and you didn't buy it to go because you wanted to go as fast as possible on the road with no compromises, then i feel that you are in the wrong bike market. if you want to train in comfort, then the better route would be to train on a gravel bike or a more slack frame with 28 or 32mm tires. the caad and allez sprint both try to be best in class for aluminum race day road bikes, but i'd say the allez sprint is even better suited for racing, which is what they were meant to do.

    • @dho
      @dho 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      less stiff fork, less stiff downtube, less aero tubing, less aggressive geometry, less stiff non smartweld bb. in almost every angle of the frame you look the allez sprint is a higher performing frame for raceday.

    • @JanKowalski-pe9lo
      @JanKowalski-pe9lo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok... but you still didn`t specify what i`ve asked for dude. Is lack of caad stiffness gives edge on allez? Is less aero tubing does the same etc.? Is it proven or you just talking for the talking sake? I am sure that Tarmac is less aero than Venge and les stiff as well etc yet i bet there is more wins for Tarmacs than Venge frames. Why? Is it because riders feel`s better on them? Is it because they are overall better frameset than Venge despite being worse in certain areas?
      Enlighten me why i could win A1 crit race on sprint but not on Caad12. Needless to say i owned both and has better results on caad... Why is that? C`mon man

    This might be a stupid question but why do people classify some bikes as aggressive and other as relaxed? I get there is a difference in stack in reach between a bike like the allez sprint and a Roubaix or Synapse. But I would assume most people end up transferring their measurements over from bike to bike. Wouldn’t this negate the whole aggressive label. Either the bike fits with some adjustments or it doesn’t and you just bought a bike that doesn’t fit.

    • @JustRideAdelaide
      @JustRideAdelaide  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stack and reach are very relevant to fit, but are limited in terms of handling. You're right that you can transfer the same fit between bikes but a Specialized Allez and Roubaix will feel radically different even with the fit. Good things that indicate an aggressive bike are seat and head tube angles (higher is more aggressive or racey), wheelbase (shorter means faster steering), fork trail (less means more aggressive), BB drop (lower means more aggressive) and a few others. I use this website: www.geometrygeeks.bike to compare bikes to each other. It's awesome, you can learn a lot about geometry by comparing different bikes to each other.

    • @Hexsense
      @Hexsense 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A subtle comment:
      I don't like the term fork trail.
      There is fork rake, which is define by the fork design itself.
      And there is trail which is product of head tube angle, fork rake and wheel(+tire) size.
      Saying "fork trail" somehow imply that the number is related to the fork. Which it is only partly true. Fork rake reverse contribute to trail number but doesn't define it.
      The dangerous about making people confuse between fork rake and trail is that: fork rake and trail go against each other. Change fork to one with more fork rake reduce trail number. So it's better to be clear than to confuse whether we are talking about fork rake or trail.

    Hi, great review. I love both bikes. Just a noob question here. I have a Cannondale synapse carbon. Are these bikes much faster than lower grade carbon bikes such as Synapse? I am tossing between these two for my next bike.

    • @JustRideAdelaide
      @JustRideAdelaide  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi mate, try not to think of them as "faster" in the first instance, rather "more of and less of" and whether or not that translates to speed. These alloy frames won't be any lighter or more aero than your Synapse. They might be a little stiffer but that won't affect speed much, if at all. I'd expect their handling to be better so you might be quicker on descents. My Allez is an absolute rocket, even though it's 7.6 kg and not aero because my drivetrain is really well maintained, all the bearings are smooth, and I run good tyres. Plus I ride the hell out of it!
      New bikes are great, but it needs to be better at something to be faster; more aero, lighter, new and efficient drivetrain, perhaps better body position on the bike. The most important piece is still your legs!

      Which alloy rims do you use. I still have my stock fulcrum racing s4's. I switched to 25 tyres and the rims dont really make it look smooth since the tyres are wider than the rim. I love the 25 tyres and how smooth they are. Can you recommend some alloy rims which are wider like most of the new carbon rims are, so that using 25 tyres doesnt look a bit weird? Thanks

    • @JustRideAdelaide
      @JustRideAdelaide  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's quite a lot of alloy clinchers now that have 22mm external width, which is around the minimum I'd get now. I love running wide rims and wide tyres for comfort and speed. Some options for rims are, H Plus Son Archetypes, HED Belgiums, HED Ardennes, and Paccentil SL23 (although I hate those personally). I just bought a set of Craftworx Ultimas that have a nice wide rim on them too.

    What do you think of e5 allez claris ?

      I reckon it'll certainly be one of the racier bikes at that price point if you're after something with a bit of zip to it. I can't speak with any experience but at a glance it's cheap, simple, and has an appropriate price.

    Question: on a road bike, is it normal for your knees to hit your arms when you’re in the drops?
