    I can't help but notice how Concubine Rong never looks into the eyes of the Emperor - she hates him *that* much. She knows he lusts after her and meeting his gaze would please him - so she doesn't do it. Props to her!
    The directors turned the tables here. I'm so used to the "exotic new girl" in these sorts of dramas behaving viciously and ugly but Concubine Rong is the opposite. Bravo - her relationship with the Empress is lovely as well. She's come to recognize Ruyi has given her a tremendous gift - her friendship. She has quickly learned to cherish it and offer her care in return as much as she can

      @sherina799 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Emperor didnt appoint any empress after Ruyi because he wanted Consort Ling as the Empress but because of her being a Han woman, she can’t be an Empress while alive hence Emperor only can appointed her as Imperial Noble Consort but she was already de facto Empress after the Step Empress’s downfall.

    • @PhongNguyen-wf8zr
      @PhongNguyen-wf8zr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@sherina799 Not really. Ling, in both history and in the novel/series, only got the title because her son was chosen to be the next emperor. She never had any real power in the harem. It was always Yufei (Hailan) and Rongfei who carried the tasks of the harem leader(s). So calling her a de facto empress is incorrect. Ruyi tho, when she was Imperial Noble consort (around ep 42-43), was THE de facto empress, which was clearly recorded in history and the way her ceremonies were carried out were also recorded and used as an example for later generations.

    • @sherina799
      @sherina799 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhongNguyen-wf8zr If she had no power in the harem at the time she was an Imperial Noble Consort, why would Qianlong placed her in that position in the first place tho, why he didnt place YuFei or any other consorts instead. That position was given to a consort so they can perform the empress’s duties (which means she also has power in order to perform those duties) without the actual ‘empress’ title . Its just not make any sense that Qianlong made Ling Imperial Noble Consort but let other consorts to do the duties and have power as means that those two consorts had much more power than Ling who has higher rank than them. Moreover, shortly after her death, the Qianlong also mentioned that Ling did a good job in doing her duties (which related to her 10 years as Imperial Noble Consort)

    • @PhongNguyen-wf8zr
      @PhongNguyen-wf8zr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sherina799 So I am not a pro historian or anything but I do read a lot about this period because I got so interested. So don't quote me on any of what I am gonna say haha.
      1. Ling was given the title because she was the mother of the future emperor and she was the consort with the highest title at the time being (Guifei - Noble consort), since Jia and Chun had died. Rongfei couldn't be promoted any further because she was a foreigner (so it's political), and Yufei because her son, the reason she got the title in the first place, had died. There was absolutely no reason to promote her at that time.
      2. There's a misperception that holding the title of Imperial Noble Consort (INS) means the person is a de facto empress and can perform empress's duties but really INS is still as much a servant as other consorts, which mean Yufei carrying out the harem responsibilities doesn't clash with the fact that she was not holding the highest title at that time.

    • @PhongNguyen-wf8zr
      @PhongNguyen-wf8zr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sherina799 The way Ling was praised posthumously was the same as how when some consorts got promoted, their "promotion golden books" would never say "this is mainly for political reasons". @christinasuhadi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yup, it's TB... TB is contagious, but it's not easy to someone get transmitted... Needs intense contact for a long time...
      TB is airborne disease, so basically many people have been contacted by this bacteria, but this bacteria usually choose to be "dormant" state, until our immune is dropped, it can be manifested as disease and has symptoms... In asia nowadays, many countries oblige their people to be vaccinated from TB in early age after born (BCG)... So babies can not get sick from TB (if not, many newborn babies will be positive TB now here because their immune system still low)... But they still can get TB at older ages or adult when they get close contact with TB patient or immunity drop..
      Well, according to this drama, if there's a chance someone can get sick from her, that's should be Rong Pei first.. TB is contagious, but it's not easy to be transmitted and get sick from it if you have good immunity and not being too closed to patient for a long time

      As far as i know... This historical drama uses the "soap opera formula" since this drama was targeted more to female than male audiences.
      Soap Opera Drama is just like you said. Usually the main role is female with good character. She will suffer the most with the most outrageous cause you can find. And in the end, she will gain her victory due to her determination.
