Finally a drama where the empress and empress dowager aren't evil! His mom is right tho, cuz she knows Ruyi as an inteliigent and soft-spoken woman who always thinks before she acts, so she knew that everything Ruyi did has a valid reason. I like them both hahaha
I think the Dowager Empress was at first suspicious of her on account of her aunt. But as the years went by, she learned that Ruyi was nothing like her aunt in personality. However, Ruyi was still intelligent, through, and carefully picked her battles. Ruyi is one of those people where if she's angry, then the target of her anger is genuine scum (like Yanwan and the Emperor). And the Dowager Empress knew this.
@@beckyweiss6072 I also think that the situation with the Han Lady Rong made her think because she cut her hair for their youthful selves and so she divorced herself from her husband saying he is like dead to her. If he doesn't get that then he's dumber than we thought.
well yeah your half right on the dowager being not evil , I mean before she was hella evil ngl but later on she learned that ruyi was never bad it was just her hating ruyi because of her aunt so she had a character development.
Empress: *cuts hair as a sign of divorce* Emperor: “wow you’re crazy, go get treated” Empress Dowager (his mom): “She did it for a reason idiot.” *continues to scold her son* Emperor: *pikachu meme face*
She even treats her maids and eunuchs with a lot of care and respect. That’s why everyone around her (except those extremely morally corrupted ones) gives so much respect and gratitude back to her, sometimes even risking their personal interests and safety for her. They are living in an inhumane hierarchical system, but a lot of them haven’t lost their conscience. They remain good grateful people😭
It’s funny that he said ruyi was the one who changed when he became callous in his treatment of her, or that she didn’t behave like the royal mother when he really didn’t allow her to. He constantly believed his harem over her, never really enforced their respect for her, and allowed them to belittle, mock, plot against her and murder her children. Never truly standing up for her either.
And all the while, he never apologised to her, not even once. He never took responsibility for how he hurt her and even blamed her when she started to pull away. But yet he expected her to remain as devoted and in love as she was before
I love how the emperor's mother places the beads aside as if it represents her title which she has set aside for a moment so she could speak to him as just his mother and not 'Royal mother'
I never liked his mother more than when she said " i would have hung their bodies from the walls! he had nothing to say to that cause he knows his mom don't play"
She was trying to show the Emperor that Ruyi's decision to send them to the nunnery was in fact an act of mercy because they would have had it far worse if anyone else was making the decision and sticking to the strict palace protocol. I think deep down the Emperor already knew this but he was just trying to find faults with Ruyi for his own selfish pride. The dowager empress wasn't afraid to slap that right out of his head. I love the Dowager empress's character growth. She went from projecting her animosity for Ruyi's aunt onto Ruyi and treating her badly to then recognising Ruyi's good qualities and amending her perception to the point of now trusting and defending Ruyi. She's insightful enough to recognise sincere probity in a person she had considered an adversary and is willing to change how she interacts with them once she gets the revelation. she also doesn't hesitate to give the Emperor a dressing down for his pigheadedness towards Ruyi. She might have done some awful things to secure her survival and position, but overall, she's not quite that evil. She treated Ruyi badly at first because she was anticipating that Ruyi would carry on the blood feud on behalf of her aunt and seek revenge against her. She felt doubly threatened at the start because Ruyi at the time was much favoured by the new young emperor giving Ruyi much sway should she want to use that power. So she went on the offense with Ruyi. But when Ruyi proved that she wasn't going to continue the feud and harboured no ill-intentions against her, the dowager empress eased up her wary mistrust and warmed up to Ruyi. I view her like Hailan - mostly peaceful but willing to get her hands dirty when she feels it's necessary as a defensive measure.
The empress dowager plays no games. She didn't when she was the previous emperor's wife and she doesn't now. This is the part where you understand Ruyi had earned her respect and earning Zen Xuan's respect meant alot.
Who needs enemies when you have a husband like that. Sometimes the one who hurts us the most is also the one we love the most unfortunately. So sad for Ruyi!😢
Reason for this is because the emperor literally removed all sorts of important records of her so people may interpret her as good or bad which is sad.
Empress Dowager had a point, the emperor did push Ruyi to far and he enabled Consort Ling and let her become between them. ‘Don’t miss your water till the well runs dry’
Which is why in the end she willingly steps in to pull the last straw on Ling's back. In a way I believe the Dowager feels guilty. She new it was Ling who poisoned Consort Shu and she didn't do anything about it. I want to believe she realizes that if she had thrown her out at that time, at least 4 Royal children would be alive and 3 wouldn't be kicked out so quickly like they did.
6:38 Its evident that Empress Dowager Zhen Huan didn’t like Ruyi due to her familial ties with the Ulanara clan (the previous Empress is frm the Ulanara clan and was the enemy of Zhen Huan), but she genuinely was impressed with her persistence at the end. She only disliked the Ulanara clan, but showed real care for RuYi.

It may or may not be mere coincidence that the Qing Dynasty started to go downhill from the latter part of this Qianlong (Hongli) reign and eventually ended the entire feudalist system in China. This emperor represented all the old toxic patriarchal traditions that have got to go.
When Dowager said "your nightly visits.... You really think I didn't no?" she did indeed know pretty much everything going on. You don't make it to that age without knowledge and wisdom in that environment. She was the most woke of everyone in the palace. Not sure how other people's relationship with their own mother is, but my mother always can tell when I'm not telling the truth. She may not necessarily know what the truth actually is sometimes, she just knows what I am telling her isn't the truth. She knows with 100% accuracy when I am lying. Even when I purchase something expensive in her mind and when she inquires about it I tell her its half of the original value.
In my opinion, the empress diwager's knowledge about the happening in the palace and the emperor was more because she too was once in the same boat with Ruyi. For her to be able to survived her harem life and rose to empress dowager position, she had to be cunning, observant, and wise. She must also alreadyy learn how to dechiper people's expression, especially the emperor (be it Hongli or her own husband) because, like the saying, being close to emperor was like being near a tiger. One wrong moves and you'll lose your head.

Even after he knows Ruyi's clear, he gave her a non-apology and ask her to take the role of Empress again, something she doesn't want, and expects her to let the past go. After all the crap he pulled her through. Even her mother died because of it, her son got poisoned, her friend/brother died. Ruyi has to cut her part of the ceremonial painting and burn it to make another statement again, since violating traditional customs is not enough to punch through his think webs of doubts. He should understand by now that there's nothing holding her behind.
The sad part is Ruyi still loves him or atleast the him she used to know. I never understood how he could be so insecure even after all the evidence that Ruyi has did nothing wrong
I'm impressed with Ruyi's courage and self-love/respect. Funny the Emperor doesn't see his own foolish behavior but calls out his own madness on her instead. Narcissism 101 LOL. God knows i know all about that when it comes to self-centered ignorant and selfish a-holes.

I always wonder about the interpretation this series portrays. In real life, the Qianlong emperor sent the empress back to the capital, stripped her imperial titles, limited her maids to 2 which was quite a demotion. When the empress fell seriously ill, he went ahead to his summer residence in Chengde. At the time of empress death, the emperor was part of a hunting excursion and did not immediately return to the Forbidden City. Instead he arranged one of his sons to handle funeral arrangements. She was given a meager funeral compared to what was accustomed. Lastly, she was laid to rest in the Yu Mausoleum instead of being laid to rest in the Emperor's future resting place. It sounds like he completely wrote her off even to the end, and had no regrets, unlike what is portrayed in this series.
Truthseeker This series is based on a novel written based on the historical events, not directly based on history itself so I think you can take this with a grain of salt, or consider it one of the many interpretations of why Qianlong did what he did. In this series he also wrote her off history because Ruyi doesn’t want to be his empress. It’s one interpretation but not necessarily the true history. What happened to the 2nd empress remains a mystery to this day.

The dowager empress said that after he has disposed of Ruyi as empress, he’ll regret it and realise he really cared for her. That was a prediction that came true, for after Ruyi’s death, the emperor lived in regret and sorrow, missing her till his final hours. A fitting punishment for his ill treatment and disregard for her due to his lust.
In this Episode I love the what I called the "wicked Mother Empress Dowager" She finally accepted and fought for Ruyi the Empress Her quotation: "Deposing your Empress for your lusts"?( nightly lust for prostitutes) Wow! That is magnum statement!!! 🤗🤗🤗

The emperor pissed me off so much. He’s the one at fault even deep down he himself knows it yet he’s too prideful to admit his wrongs. He kept blaming Ruyi yet he can’t even name one damn thing that she did wrong, the only wrong thing she did was married him and gave her life and love for him instead of to the man who had actually cared and loved her. He’s like a repeated record that kept repeating the same shit like it’s Ruyi’s fault, she’s not like before, she’s the one who changed not him, and that she cut her hair, well maybe if he hadn’t kept on being suspicious of her for shit she didn’t do & only thinks with his damn lower part and trust those who schemes behind his back hurting those who had actually loved and cared bout him and kept repeated hurt her. He’s the one who had ruined what they had before and the one who had ruined all the love & cared that she had for him himself. He’s just a pathetic, lustful, selfish emperor with his damn useless pride. He has done so many shitty things & hurt so many innocent peoples lives even his own mother knows he’s in the wrong and Ruyi is innocent and hasn’t done anything wrong and he’s the one who has pushed her too far to the point where she’s way passed her limit that she can no longer love or cared for him anymore
Hongli was such a disappointment. Empress Dowager was right when she stuck it to him that he had pushed Ruyi too far & much too long of a time. He projected his problems onto Ruyi as a false image & the ED knew it & stuck it to him again. She did tell him he was going to regret it. Boy, he sure did regret it when it was too late.
Emperor's bad characters are: Selfish, play victim, coarse, unlistenable to good advice, find self-correction, refuses to hear the truth, negative thinking, over-jealous, blaming people over his mistakes, easily led astray, believes in enemy rather her wife, regretted after tragedy...
Even though I didn’t watch the drama, I’ve been watching all these clips! 😂 I actually love the leads and the supporting actresses. They did soooooo well! Just too long for me.
What a disappointment is the Emperor Hong Li to the smart, sassy Zhen Huan. He not only disappointed his wife but the woman who helped him ascend to the throne. But tbh..Zhen Huan seems so different here. It doesn't seem like Sun Li's Zhen Huan would've let him do so much as he did. And Hong Li seemed smarter in "Empresss in the Palace." LMAO Kinda wish that Hong Li was more like his father. He had a thing for beauty but my goodness was he a smart man! Bawling my eyes out with Consort Yu 😭
...I'm sorry, did this man REALLY say, "this is beyond what I can endure"? What??? When have you ever had to endure anything for her sake? She's always the one getting punished and having to endure hardships for the sake of your "love" for her, so really, what have you endured? NOTHING! This man really had the audacity to say that in regards to Ruyi. 🤦All she ever did was advise him to be mindful of his behaviour and take care of himself and he's forever flipping his lid on her because she won't let him have his "fun". What a disgrace for a man and for a husband. 🙄
I haven’t saw this scene when I watched this drama on Fox Plus. They cut several scenes there that’s why I don’t understand what was really happened after Empress cut her hair. Thank you for showing this. I now understand fully. 😍
WHEN LOVE HAS GONE... RUYI IS SO LUCKY IN RELEASING THE LOVE IN HIS HEART THAT EVEN WHEN THE EMPEROR REALIZES HIS LOVE IS STILL RUYI , RUYI ALREADY CLOSE HER HEART ... BRABO RUYI...
(SPOILER) At least when INC Ling is getting her justice, she tells the Emperor the truth about himself, harem life, & his true love. It's far too by then though.
If any of you have seen pictures of people being punished with "lingche" (death by a thousand cuts), then you would have a shiver down your spine at the Empress Dowager's threat of killing the prostitutes if she was Ruyi.
What the Emperor cannot bear is being forced to face his own shortcomings. He has lost the love of the one person who truly loved him. And he knows there is no way back.
Never ever could see his own faults... esp in regard to his lusty ways and how he treated his wife and concubines! Therefore, she HAD TO BE CRAZY!!! His choice of subsequent women cost many lives, none of which he would accept responsibility. He literally FORGOT her and her health/life suffered bcz of his neglect.
The emperor's mean behavior is also the reason why his wife divorced him by cutting her hair after she had enough of the emperor's over reaction... But apparently, I believe that the emperor shouldn’t had been the emperor in the first place due to his insanity. Does anyone agree?
even after she died he tried to remove all history of her he still couldnt cause even if she is a soar loser in the harem its better not to take part in the evil games and when u die and go to heaven u hear God say i know u not so that means straight to hell , this emperor is too lustful And i believe that his first wife was sick of him but held it in till she was near death ( in real life)
Jonneale Spencer He did that to honour her wish, to be “free” - from the role of empress, and all palace life. She left that message in the last letter to the prince, and her cutting out her part of the portrait with the emperor. This portrait was supposed to be a record of the history of the reigning emperors. She was always against the idea of marrying him although she loved him, as she didn’t want the life in the palace. That’s why at the last minute of her funeral, he couldn’t bring himself to attend, had her have a funeral befitting a concubine, and had her buried in the concubine tomb. He granted her wish. Actually she was his first and only real love, but due to his lust and the pressures of being an emperor, he forgot his love.

In this Episode I love the what I called the "wicked Mother Empress Dowager" She finally accepted and fought for Ruyi the Empress
Her quotation:
"Deposing your Empress for your lusts"?( nightly lust for prostitutes)
Wow! That is magnum statement!!!
🤗🤗🤗
This is the best clip I saw so far, the Emperor Dowager explained so much the the Emperor that she couldn't tell him,
I thought this so very touching, I even cried 😭😭
Ruyi loved him so much. He had so many chances to turn, but he did not
I cried when I Rong and Ying fei talk to her for the last time..
Because only the Queen is virtue and help them from the beginning..
*Sob...
This is so sad , I’m probably the only person who is crying from these clips. She’s so kind to everyone but yet suffer so much from just wanting love.
No, I cry watching this drama. I just want to know if that plum tree had budded when he cut his hair. I couldn’t tell.
Everything that Qianlong is complaining about of Ruyi, is his self.
Even after his own mother lectures him "her fault, not mine"😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒
RUYI DID EVERYTHING TO PROTECT YOUR REPUTATION AND HEALTH AND YOU DARE TO SAY THAT SHE HAS GONE WILD? this emperor sucks.
frr the emperor is so fucking stupid like tf how can he even be like this
The biggest oof didn't fall on Ruyi but on Qianlong instead by the moment he said that he didn't change but she did. The audacity. 😔
Hahaha... Even the mother in law defended her daughter in law...
(spoiler) Who knew this would be the last time Consort Ying and Concubine Rong see Ruyi..
Why?
O P she died😢😢
This is so sad. Ruyi deserves better. Any man is better for her.
Did Rong like ruyi?
fandom encounter in a way beacuse in a previous episode concubine rong said that shes owes Ruyi after she drank the nonchildbearing soup
So heartbreaking..after all the endurance and sacrifices she makes, its still no use..
Emperor's bad characters are:
Selfish, play victim, coarse, unlistenable to good advice, find self-correction, refuses to hear the truth, negative thinking, over-jealous, blaming people over his mistakes, easily led astray, believes in enemy rather her wife, regretted after tragedy...
This character is called Narcissist
So much negativity, not a good role model
Especially for the kingdom and that’s what led to the downfall of the Qing Dynasty.
I saw a true love exist in this world, the empress and Hailang. 😢
Qian Long is the longest ruler among all the emperors in chinese history. It is his curse and punishment to live so long without Ruyi.
He lived happily ever after her. She was thrown into a third grade tumb along with another concubine without even a proper burial.
@@kgao7294, which was what Ruyi wanted. To not be remembered as Empress and be together as husband and wife.
I LOVE that the Royal Mother was not afraid to put her asshole son in his place. She is so fond of Ruyi it’s amazing.
The man lured by lust says his wife is wild.....
Even Empress Dowager knows he is out of line
I love the way of the emperor mother advise her son.
I cry during all the scenes from the last few episodes, it could be ruyi going alone to that dang festival dressed as a common noble and I still cry
Ryui has such a forgiving heart. But he never believes her or forgives her she is too good for him. She deserved a better love.
Damn, the acting, the music and the lighting get me crying every time!
I dont know why my tears keep coming up, feels ruyi loneliness
Even though I didn’t watch the drama, I’ve been watching all these clips! 😂 I actually love the leads and the supporting actresses. They did soooooo well! Just too long for me.
What a disappointment is the Emperor Hong Li to the smart, sassy Zhen Huan. He not only disappointed his wife but the woman who helped him ascend to the throne. But tbh..Zhen Huan seems so different here. It doesn't seem like Sun Li's Zhen Huan would've let him do so much as he did. And Hong Li seemed smarter in "Empresss in the Palace." LMAO
Kinda wish that Hong Li was more like his father.
This is so good! Has me on the edge of my seat.
I like that. ‘Emperor. You forced Empress too far’. Accurate of most relationships I feel.
WHEN LOVE HAS GONE... RUYI IS SO LUCKY IN RELEASING THE LOVE IN HIS HEART THAT EVEN WHEN THE EMPEROR REALIZES HIS
LOVE IS STILL RUYI , RUYI ALREADY CLOSE HER HEART ... BRABO RUYI...
(SPOILER) At least when INC Ling is getting her justice, she tells the Emperor the truth about himself, harem life, & his true love. It's far too by then though.
Emperor : sleeps with girls and has a harem of wives
Ruyi: Lol k.
Ruyi : cuts her hair
Emperor : Im about to end this man's career
Ugh I love Consort/Concubine Ying and Rong. They're the best.
13:35 When eyes did the talking... superb acting!!!
The city has already been destroyed “when the pillars are not strong enough how will the city stand”
This is where that Rapunzal song plays “mother knows best”...dude even your mother warned you
After all that Ruyi had endure and he still blames her. Oh how I wanted to slap the emperor.
Finally Royal Mother is telling him “boy you fucked up you idiot”
Never ever could see his own faults... esp in regard to his lusty ways and how he treated his wife and concubines! Therefore, she HAD TO BE CRAZY!!! His choice of subsequent women cost many lives, none of which he would accept responsibility. He literally FORGOT her and her health/life suffered bcz of his neglect.
Mothers know their sons. Great mother son scene
This Emperor has to much pride
Blames everyone but himself
A terrible husband and father
Emperor: I'd never blame myself. Who me? 🤔
Beautiful background and drama and narrative.
Thank you
To me this Emperor is already a mad man himself it good he has not turn all the people mad
Why do this drama make me cry so hard even though I only watch some clip
The emperor's mean behavior is also the reason why his wife divorced him by cutting her hair after she had enough of the emperor's over reaction...
But apparently, I believe that the emperor shouldn’t had been the emperor in the first place due to his insanity.
Does anyone agree?
Ruyi sat for quarantine for the rest of her life.....
WE STAN A NOSTRADAMIC EMPRESS
Magníficos actores y actrices ,impactante episodio, inolvidable escena del emperador y Ruyi.
👏👏👏👏
even after she died he tried to remove all history of her he still couldnt cause even if she is a soar loser in the harem its better not to take part in the evil games and when u die and go to heaven u hear God say i know u not so that means straight to hell , this emperor is too lustful
And i believe that his first wife was sick of him but held it in till she was near death ( in real life)
Jonneale Spencer He did that to honour her wish, to be “free” - from the role of empress, and all palace life.
Please don't stop posting and thanks.
Ok, what's the name of this show and where do I binge it?! Help!
Ruyi's royal love in the palace. It's currently on Amazon prime.
2:46 Queen dowager face was like “THIS MOFO RIGHT HERE?!”
no damn accoutablity from him loool spoken like a true narcissist
The success of this emperor made me feel the extreme against him(*´∇`*)
Everybody can see this mf is utterly crazy even the empress dowager 😂 she is so over this shit that she’s team Ruyi like I cannot
