    “一路保重啊”
Her final words to him are “take care on the road ahead”. She was not just talking about his trip to the hunting grounds. The emperor once told her that he was lonely and wanted her to walk step by step to his side and be together going forward. She is telling him that she’ll no longer be by his side, the future road is one where he will have to walk alone, and to take care. The writing in this show is so beautiful and so heartbreaking .

He was fated to die regardless of outcome. But, they were always there for each other, as you said they were extremely close, it was sad they were not together when she passed. Although, in saying that. That special moment with Ruyi and Rongpei was so very beautifully done. The acting in this series by everyone was top notch and my hat goes off to every single one of them. I would have loved to have seen not only the Emperor's reaction to her death ( which we do see ) but also the reaction of the Empress Dowager and the rest of the harem. After so many years of harem members scheming against Ruyi, I couldn’t help but feel surprised at how Hongli didn’t trust Ruyi more instead of siding with them. He knew her character. He understood how the harem members competed for his attention and the empress seat and how Ruyi didn’t. Instead he often was suspicious of her and punished her for years. In the end, I think that, even if he apologized to her for his treatment of her it as too late. She had so much despair and lost love. So very sad. 😔

Agree, he seemed to punish though who were most loyal to him, and those who were schemers and essentially murders he rewarded.... how many times did he demote the schemers only to reinstate them. It was almost like he was blind or did not want to think they were so evil, Yet the ones who truly loved him and were kind, he dismissed and believed the lies about them every single time......Lets be honest here, of all the harem, Ruyi is the one who the Emperor knew the longest, afterall they grew up together of everyone it is she who he knew the best. Only the servants sort of came close to apologizing when they knew they were wrong, slapping themselves saying “I deserve death!” 😂. This makes me think back to the end of my marriage. I used to nag him a lot, to watch the budget and not spend recklessly, to take care of his health and not stay up so late or drink so much. But then I gave up. I stopped arguing or caring anymore. And then I left. When a woman loves their partner, they will nag and argue and worry. But once they stop that, and let you do whatever without caring, they have given up on you. You've ground down their love for you into dust. That's what the emperor did to Ruyi, he eroded her love for him into nothing. She was loyal to him but he gradually lost her love through every cruel word and action towards her. He didn't want an empress who could stand by him, he wanted a doe eyed girl who stroked his ego and looked at him in admiration. So he ended up lonely.

Well... it’s natural the emperor felt as if the return of the “treasure” would make her happy.... becoz for women during that time the gold book and the Empress Seal were the highest recognition of a woman. It’s a social status... a “marriage certificate” (the gold book) kind of recognition of the status of a wife... whilst the Empress Seal is the symbol of the power of an empress because all internal court orders need this seal stamped on them...

But not only in China, this is the case for basically every kingdom/empire in the past, honestly. The fates of thousands or even millions dictated by the whim of a single person, whether right or wrong, is why absolute monarchy nearly went extinct in the modern age of democracy.

Ruyi didn't die without saying goodbye, I actually believe her saying the story of the orchids was a warning to the emperor (about bad timing) he came too late to ''see her'' ''apologize''...when she realized the he wasn't going to SINCERELY apologize and wanted to ''sweep everything under the rug'' (hide all the bad things) and forget all the evil deeds the consorts did without acknowledging them, Ruyi knew the emperor was never going to change or better yet, she knew THIS emperor wasn't the person she fell in love with, so why bother telling him about her illness?. At the end when he leaves you can see that she doesn't smile (not looking for revenge) She didn't even cry (not looking for forgiveness ). This is what she truly felt, indifference...when someone in a relationship acts like this, it's because they no longer care, or they no longer love...In Ruyi's case it was both. She was tired of telling the emperor about the bad behaviors and seeing him doing nothing destroyed her love for him. I love this drama 💜

First, I can understand why the emperor did not directly apologize to Ruyi. As far as I know, the royals like to talk and act in connotative manner. Direct request or confrontation is considered as rude and unintelligent. While commoners (like most of us) prefer direct apology. By asking her to go to Mulan Hunting, and returning the scroll and treasure, it was the emperor's way to apologize. And Ruyi herself had given her forgiveness by saying "it was all faint memory to me". However, Ruyi mentioned about the "Orchid Beginning till Ends" implicates that she considered their marriage (not love) as an unhappy one despite of such wonderful past.

I love it how she give him a cold treatment but act with dignity.
She knows she is dying so she could careless about him, who had been ruthless and unkind to her. Torture him with kindness. Why are you look so forlorn, were are the love of your life? They cannot fill the void left in your heart by your unruly empress? Regrets???

I love this drama series. I cry more watching this than any other show I have ever watched. Her happiness was so short during her life. She had more sadness and pain than anyone ever all because of the Emperor and some jealous women.

Becoming the Empress was the beginning of her personal hell..it’s what iniatiated her discord with Hongli that instead of being a pair of husband and wife, the Emperor begin to treat their relationship like a Big Boss and his servant who have been burdened with the responsibilities to carry out all his order and being threatened to be revoked of the title when she was deemed ‘fail’ in her job. She’s also keep being attacked by the people who coveted his position until all her loved ones being murdered one by one
Maybe that’s one of the reason why she didn’t want anything to do with the ‘Empress’ part of her life anymore..and looking at the side of her cut out painting (The Step Empress of Great Qing) with so much hidden grudge

When they lost the prince, that's when they started to discord actually. And that kind of story... I have seen it by myself through several of my families and friends . Grieving can truly bring a marriage to downfall

I personally didn’t feel she had any grudges by cutting herself out of the painting. It basically signified the end of their relationship liking it to the poem about orchid flowers blooming then dying. She was happy to be free and knew she didn’t have long to live.

I kind of get why she didn't accept. Her health is declining and she knows she won't live for long. There really is no point for her to take them back either way as she would have passed already. She's already accomplished what she wished to and accepted her fate.

    • @christinasuhadi
      @christinasuhadi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

Yup, that's one of reasons... Another reason is Ruyi has closed everything that tied her with emperor... Final goodbye is goodbye... She won't lick her saliva again

Plus she don't love him anymore, not just that she don't even hate him, just no feeling at all. The action of cutting her hair back then is same meaning as divorce.

That, and because she's also tired of being plotted against and dragged down time and time again by members of the harem.
