For singing while playing, my vocal coach recommends the opposite approach- vocalize the notes as you play with verbal sounds but not the lyrics. This gets you into harmonizing your voice with your instrument and then adding in the actual lyric as you get more comfy. The actual word are seldom as important as the tones so this approach makes a lot of sense to me.

    • @RobSchmob.1

Honestly, you just gotta do breathing exercises and gently warm your voice up everyday. You'll be surprised at how much better your natural tone gets just by treating your voice right. And if you start now, trust that you'll be awesome when your voice is done maturing. Im going to try and get a voice coach soon because I like singing more than I like to play guitar. Right now, I'm just learning basic stuff from a Music Gurus singing course. I know that trying to get better seem intimidating, and it may seem pointless when you compare yourself to your heroes or people your age. But I guarantee that about two to three weeks after you begin to get real instruction and actually try to get good, you will notice changes that make you very pleased. And besides, trying to accomplish your dream feels so thrilling--way better than dreaming it, honestly.

Thanks for sharing this! It’s an encouragement to not just avoid vocals altogether but to keep working at it.

Dude, you sound good. Honestly, alot better than I anticipated and that's just because I didn't take you as a singer but you've obviously got it.

I also just started singing. im a guitar player first but wanted to start singing. Interesting to see the musicians that i look up to such as Tyler doing the same thing.

Wow I knew you were an exceptional guitar player but who knew you had ALL the talent! I am no professional but I think you sound great and clearly know about mixing / recording. Great job look forward to the album.

Been playing for 9 years but never learned theory. Just got Guitar super system and it’s great. Really a lot of great stuff for anyone who’s already been playing for a while.

Wow! Your singing voice is amazing and powerful. It sounds completely natural, not over compensating. Your enunciation of words and lyrics is clear. You're a natural, made to perform. Keep on blessing peoples ear holes bro. 😁

This is my favorite video you've made. Ironically, the guitar work stood out to me, and the vocals were also pretty cool as well

"You never stop learning." Amen to that. I'm coming up on performing (on one instrument or another) for 30 years, still learning. Here's another dilemna with the path you're taking - being simultaneously at 2 different levels of proficiency. Here's what I mean by that:
After about 25 years of playing/performing on several different instruments, I decided to learn to play the euphonium. Still just playing scales and some simple songs, but I can identify myself as (picking numbers out of the air here) a level 15 doublebassist (semi-professional), a level 8 keyboardist (amateur), and a level 2 euphophonist(beginner), and those things are completely divorced from each other. Having the theory background, reading ability, and performance experience does help to accelerate the progress, but the skillsets are still at very different levels. But it's different transitioning from a doublebassist to a euphophonist than it is to transition from a guitarist to a guitarist/singer. Now that I'm trying to take up singing as more than just faking background vocals, it causes a bit of a disjoint as I never plan on just singing but to incorporate it into singer/guitarist, singer/bassist, or singer/keyboardist.
