"Did I just call myself a great musician? Yeah, we should be nicer to ourselves." Genuinely a good moment that I'm really glad you put in. Sure, some guitarists have ego issues, but there are WAY more who put themselves down and refuse to recognize their own talent.
I genuinely teared up at that. It's so true in all walks of life. Narcissistic jerks are few and far between compared to all the people being way too harsh on themselves and putting themselves down (me included)
Sadly, egotistical people generally are full of confidence and will push themselves forward (with or without talent). Many successful people do seem to be on the more egotistical side. It's nice that TH-cam has somewhat levelled that playing field a little.
Self love is super important. If not practiced you can lose opportunities that you never saw. The pandemic hit hard so I've been struggling with my musical identity for a couple of years and last night we were announced for Loud as Hell Fest in AB. This marks the second time we are able to visit from abroad and when I saw the announcement, I cried. Gave up on looking for more dates to tour thinking I sucked and am not doing anyone any favors. Whatever, I digress. Point is: you are amazing SammyG! Thank you for your vids!
Ok - if I was not a fan of this channel before… wow this was mind blowing. A great musician is someone who loves, respects and cares for their craft - no matter what style they are challenged to play. This video is proof positive that if you apply yourself, anything (silly, slide, fun, expressive, melodic and 7/8) can happen!
Rotem’s song sounded like it would fit right in on a Queens of the Stone Age album. I liked it the most. For round 2: since Stevie T hates Ed Sheeran so much, I’d love to see his serious take on a Top 40 pop song. I'd also love to see Bernth on a math-rock-style song. I'd also love to hear a hip-hop style on guitar from someone. These crossovers are always super fun. Editing to say that I’d love to hear a trap beat from Emily Hopkins, the harpist!
Stevie T's biggest challenge: doing anything seriously. He actually did do an Ed Sheeran song for his "How To Be" series, and it was actually pretty damn good. And yes, anything with Emily Hopkins would be great! Her or Sarah Longfield, I'd be down with either... or both
This was entertaining, fun, interesting. I like videos where passionate listeners of music are out of their depth and try to make sense of it from where they are coming from (Lost in Vegas and Virgin Rock are channels I like) - but your approach to ask performing musicians to jump in the deep end is something different! However, for a professional musician - being given three options to choose from instead of being faced with just one challengly foreign genre - to come up with yet another "in the style of" proposition of his own choice altogether felt like taking "the easy way out". His how-to tutorial and video-clip to go with the finished product were still entertaining, though.
I hate to break it to you, but yours was the best. Absolutely stellar. I’ve played a fretless guitar since the 70s, but not very well. And never a baritone. I love what you did with it. I love the piece.

I would be intrested to hear what Bradley Hall to playing jazz would sound like for round 2!
Rotam's piece sound a lot like an ambitious Faith No More instrumental. Gotta say that I dig it
The Rudy spaghetti western section was so great!! Great video overall dude. Love it
"Did I just call myself a great musician? Yeah, we should be nicer to ourselves."
Genuinely a good moment that I'm really glad you put in.
Wow!
I would've paid to have a full album of you playing prog rock, it was insanely good!!
Congratulations!!! So happy for you!!!!
The country western song and video was amazing. I liked this video way more than I thought I would. Awesome work as always
These were all so cool. I really enjoyed your piece Samurai.
I am leaving a like and comment because this was cool as heck. It was nice seeing a huge array of talent represented.
I love playing new material that I’m terrible at. There’s no expectations! It’s almost like I rediscover the joy of playing music for the first time.
Those boots, those slides, those no frets, and those tiny bells. Awesome!
Absolutely beautiful and well rounded. Well done!
Loved Paul David's entry. Holly cow Jared's blues playing sounds like Jeff Beck! That was so good.
He nailed the Spaghetti western!
Her or Sarah Longfield, I'd be down with either... or both
I think Bernth would do great at any style, the man is a beast!
omfg i love ur weird-time-signatures-prog-rock-thingy so much, can you please upload it on its own so i can blast it in the car more easily??
This was entertaining, fun, interesting. I like videos where passionate listeners of music are out of their depth and try to make sense of it from where they are coming from (Lost in Vegas and Virgin Rock are channels I like) - but your approach to ask performing musicians to jump in the deep end is something different! However, for a professional musician - being given three options to choose from instead of being faced with just one challengly foreign genre - to come up with yet another "in the style of" proposition of his own choice altogether felt like taking "the easy way out". His how-to tutorial and video-clip to go with the finished product were still entertaining, though.
Odd signatures part was great, would be nice to hear a full song based on that. Or more than one song.
Bro, that prog riff at the end was SICK!
Jared’s solo kinda reminded me of Steve Vai’s solos in some moments. Greatly done! 🏆
I hate to break it to you, but yours was the best. Absolutely stellar. I’ve played a fretless guitar since the 70s, but not very well. And never a baritone. I love what you did with it. I love the piece.
This was an incredible video great experiment thank you.
7:34 his soul crying for metal
Paul is insanely good paying by heart. Love your work mate
You guys all went in on this and absolutely CRUSHED IT. I’d love a part 2 but, even if we don’t get one, this was incredible
You all nailed it.Really fun video. Thanks big time.
Thanks for the beat counter on the last one I finally fully understand weird time signatures
This was great! Would love to see Adam Neely and Charles Cornell in a future episode!
