When the ice bucket challenged was happening I didn't really know what ALS was. I had heard of it I just didn't know much about it. I was challenged by a friend and i accepted and in return, challenged my wife and two other friends. At that time, a time when I could pick up a bucket of water full of ice I never dream in 2023 I would be living in a wheelchair not able to pick up a glass of water.

I finally found my life partner when I was in my early 50’s. We have been joined at the hip ever since. Dan opened up the world of nature to me thru trips and hikes to amazing places…that was almost 20 years ago. Now at 68 he has been diagnosed with ALS. I feel like I just started to live the life I never knew I had wanted. And the laughter…..it never stops. We are both products of alcoholic, abusive childhoods and both recovered alcoholics….I have over 30 years sobriety and Dan has even more. There will never be another. All terminal diseases are terrible….but most have treatments….other than an experimental new drug, ALS has nothing…you get diagnosed and are sent to get your caregiving arrangements made and end of life wishes notarized. I m angry at God and the Universe. Am hoping the anger softens with time. Sleep is my only outlet. I am too angry at God to pray anymore….it wouldn’t do any good. Fuck this disease.

I saw your post, and I noticed no one even said hello back…..so I thought I would. It’s a lonely, long, grief with a whole lot of anger aimed at the entity who supposedly created us. Having a hard time with acceptance……
