Spider-Man 2002 is the best superhero origin movie. The Raimi Spider-Man trilogy is what made me a fan of Spider-Man. Even had the Spider-Man movie games.
YOOOOO! This is probably my favorite movie of all time! This is what cemented superheroes for me. I am so happy you guys are watching! I actually have chills hearing that iconic intro theme!
It's easy to overlook how powerful Spider-Man is in this movie. Something to note spider-man always hold back in every fight because Spider-Man has a base level strength but when needed he can tap into a multiplier strength level similar logic to him being able to go super Saiyan. He also has super speed not in the traditional sense like a speedster because his speed and reflexes are directly tied to is spider Sense but when it working he can dodge a bullet from point-blank range from a machine gun. Spider man skin is also as dense as Kevlar which is shown in the movie after he takes a pumpkin bomb or grenade to the face. He also has increased healing which give him the ability to heal near fatal wounds in a day or two. Also you should know in the MCU Tony Stark didn't create Spider-Man web shooters Peter created the web shooters and web fluid Tony Stark only upgraded the web shooters to go with his new Stark suit.
Ahh yes, one of the best for sure. Willem Dafoe, as always, was incredible and I never tire of hearing this Spidey's theme! For many, including myself, this movie was a MUST watch back in the day...

When I saw this it didn’t seem strange that he had organic webs, seemed like a logical effect of dna change, but in the comics and every other Spider-Man (that I know) they have mechanical web-shooters, I wonder if they didn’t think of it when the character was created or if it was intentional.

For a lot of the reasons you just said; it didn't seem the typical/as-written version of what the character is, but they decided to make his character an organic Spider-Man, with basically no help at all from gadgets. It might have something to do with the big movie superhero characters at that time, Batman and Superman. Batman uses his innovation and resources to create gadgets, whilst Superman is literally an alien, powered by the Sun. So as not to compete but go a new, relatable angle - they made Spidey "organic" and honest, a well-meaning kid with powers that don't depend on any extraneous factor. Just the will to fight and protect. Very cool.
This is a classic superhero movie, Toby was the Spiderman I grew up with(well him and the 90s animated series). And nice shout out to the song "Hero" in the video title, 21 years later and that song is still a banger! Fun fact: There was no cgi used to help Toby catch the stuff on MJ's lunch tray. He did it himself, it took multiple takes of the crew tossing the items at him to catch.
So happy seeing you two watch this gem. When growing up as a kid this came out as well as the OG X-Men and all of these superhero’s were my hero’s as a child. Love seeing this film and thanks for the watch along. Love whatcha guys do!

This is a great reaction! This is basically Spider-Man’s traditional origin story. He gets bit by a radioactive spider, uses his powers for personal gain but refuse to do the right thing by letting a burglar go who ended up killing his uncle. Realizing he could had done something, Peter vowed to never let that happen to anyone again and became a hero. Tom Holland’s version skipped that part because everyone at this point knows it by heart. Green Goblin is Spider-Man’s arch enemy. The Joker to his Batman. The trilogy basically shows more things from the comics that Tom’s version has done yet such as working for the Daily Bugle. Mary Jane is Peter’s true love and MJ from Homecoming is basically Mary Jane but renamed Michelle. :)
As far as the costume goes, the creation is revealed in the official novelization of the second movie. The Flying Dutchman wrestler (the guy screaming that he couldn’t feel his legs) connected Peter with the guy that made his wrestling outfit to make a couple of Spider-Man suits on the down-low, grateful that someone finally defeated Bonesaw. Peter then made his own alterations to make sure it couldn’t be directly tied to him.

There was a whole world of Super Hero films before the MCU (Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four...but they were a lot of corny films trying to bank off the idea of Superheroes without understanding how to truly make them "cool". But there's 3 franchises that stood above the others in at least trying as hard as they could. Blade, Spider-Man and X-Men. But it was the MCU that really set the world on fire...and even then that didn't happen for years before it became mainstream...it was a lot of superhero nerds like me trying to tell people how great it was, before that.

The Flatiron Building is also the location of the Daily Bugle in the film and in a fun little flashback in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (Video Game) we see that in the games timeline the Daily Bugle also was located in the Flatiron Building and later moved. The building used as the home of Norman Osborn also shows up in the video game as well. It's just really cool to see how differant New York is across all Spider-Man and Marvel Media.

Both came from the comics but the later movies were more comic book accurate except for Tom Holland's Aunt Hottie, err I mean Aunt May. Lol 🤣 There are three cameos from Xena: Warrior Princess... Lucy Lawless (Xena) was the multi- colored hair punk rocker with the nose ring. The Wrestling Ring announcer was Bruce Campbell (Autolychus - King of Thieves), Ted Raimey (Joxer the Mighty) was one of J. Jonah Jameson's Daily Bugle employees. 😅
I'm sorry, but you could not cast a comic book villain any better than Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin. He portrays that split personality so damn well, the way he switches seamlessly from the meek-mannered Norman Osborn to the sadistic and cruel Green Goblin. Also, if you don't recognize the woman who said "Guy with 8 hands? Sounds hot...." That's Lucy Lawless, AKA Xena from Xena: Warrior Princess.
I loved it when this movie was first released because I was a huge spiderman fan when I was a kid, but I was even happier when the amazing spiderman was released because it was more true to the origin story Toby did a great job though, and these movies are still really great
This does indeed look like some hulk serum. The Spiderman project is just another attempt to recreate the Captain America super soldier serum. Almost all the heroes and even some villains in marvel are all related to Captain America in one way or another. He is truly the first.
I remember I was 5 when this came out and my mom we got large spider man mugs and a Spider-Man popcorn bucket with red lights on the rim. Even before this inflation iwonder why theaters and studios just stop caring. 😂
58:37 "He" wasn't doing it. Willem Dafoe is such a great actor you can actually tell which personality is in control at any given moment by the voice. When Osborn says "Don't let him take me again" you can hear his voice go from Osborn to Goblin. "God speed, Spider-man" is also Goblin, but most everything else he says in that scene is Osborn. My theory is the Goblin personality was actually the one that was working the controls on the suit while Osborn was in control, unaware of what Goblin was doing.
Marvel's success at the box office actually began slightly earlier than this film (2002), with "Blade," and then "X-Men," before this Spider-Man movie. There are roughly as many Marvel films outside the MCU as inside it. The 5 Spider-Man movies, the Hulk movie you mentioned, all of the X-Men films (including Deadpool), and the Blade trilogy, are among that number. Plus there's 2 Ghost Rider films, 2 Fantastic Four films, a Punisher film, various reboots, spinoffs, and so on. (Just do NOT watch the "Howard the Duck" film. It will drain your soul, flatline your IQ, and reduce your lifespan.) Aside from Marvel, there's a handful or two of DC superhero movies, with nearly all of them being Batman. The first was the Chris Reeve "Superman," which had one decent sequel.
This is still the film where you measure all superhero films imho. Sure there were X-men and X-men 2 but this is.. Next level Superhero film. I still remember when Nickelback's music video was playing constantly in MTV due this film. I am feeling so old right now...

They filmed some of this movie in Rochester NY where I grew up.

I'm sorry, but you could not cast a comic book villain any better than Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin. He portrays that split personality so damn well, the way he switches seamlessly from the meek-mannered Norman Osborn to the sadistic and cruel Green Goblin.
Also, if you don't recognize the woman who said "Guy with 8 hands? Sounds hot...." That's Lucy Lawless, AKA Xena from Xena: Warrior Princess.

I loved it when this movie was first released because I was a huge spiderman fan when I was a kid, but I was even happier when the amazing spiderman was released because it was more true to the origin story

This does indeed look like some hulk serum. The Spiderman project is just another attempt to recreate the Captain America super soldier serum. Almost all the heroes and even some villains in marvel are all related to Captain America in one way or another. He is truly the first.

58:37 "He" wasn't doing it. Willem Dafoe is such a great actor you can actually tell which personality is in control at any given moment by the voice. When Osborn says "Don't let him take me again" you can hear his voice go from Osborn to Goblin. "God speed, Spider-man" is also Goblin, but most everything else he says in that scene is Osborn. My theory is the Goblin personality was actually the one that was working the controls on the suit while Osborn was in control, unaware of what Goblin was doing.

Marvel's success at the box office actually began slightly earlier than this film (2002), with "Blade," and then "X-Men," before this Spider-Man movie. There are roughly as many Marvel films outside the MCU as inside it. The 5 Spider-Man movies, the Hulk movie you mentioned, all of the X-Men films (including Deadpool), and the Blade trilogy, are among that number. Plus there's 2 Ghost Rider films, 2 Fantastic Four films, a Punisher film, various reboots, spinoffs, and so on. (Just do NOT watch the "Howard the Duck" film. It will drain your soul, flatline your IQ, and reduce your lifespan.) Aside from Marvel, there's a handful or two of DC superhero movies, with nearly all of them being Batman. The first was the Chris Reeve "Superman," which had one decent sequel.
