That statement is certainly subjective and you are welcome to it of course. I love the whole album “Southern Harmony ….” in fact it probably is my favorite album if someone were to force me to choose but they have A LOT of really great stuff well past that album. Just personally speaking of course but I wouldn’t call it their peak. It’s only their second album. If they really peaked that long ago, they wouldn’t still be relevant. Again, just my opinion. ✌️
The Black Crowes we’re breath of fresh air at the end of the hair metal era. Just straight up 70’s style rock in the vain of The Rolling Stones & Faces. This is the lead single from their 1st album. You really can’t go wrong with pretty much anything from their catalog.
This was the first song I ever heard from The Crowes, from their first album, probably the first video they made. I was studying for finals my first year in college. I had MTV on the TV behind me (back when the M stood for Music). This song came on and I'm listening over my shoulder. After the first verse, I thought "Did The Faces get back together?" Then I turned around & saw these guys. I've been hooked on The Black Crowes ever since.
The band was not known as The Black Crowes back in 1988 (I think they had the name Mr. Crowe's Garden) coming out of Georgia... it was brothers Chris Robinson (vocals), Rich Robinson (guitar) w/ Steve Gorman (drums), Johnny Colt (bass) and Jeff Cease (guitar)... Producer George Drakoulias saw them live and offered to get them signed in 1989 to Rick Rubin's label Def Jam. According to the band, they did not get along w/ Rick Rubin at all, despite his agreement to sign them to a record contract... George Drakoulias produced the band's debut album in 1989, but they needed a new name... Chris & Rich Robinson claimed that Rick Rubin wanted to generate some controversy to sell records and give them some notoriety, and suggested rather insensitively that they be a southern rock band w/ the name "Kob Kounty Krows" (spelling 'KKK') and they were truly upset w/ Rubin after that... (They called him "sick") In 1990 on Def Jam, The Black Crowes debuted their new name and new album 'Shake your money maker'... and it was a huge hit, going on to sell over 5 million copies in the US... However, the band was upset w/ Rick Rubin once again when the album became a hit... Rick Rubin's name appeared on the album as an "Executive producer" (he was not involved w/ the Black Crowes at all in the studio). The Black Crowes eventually replaced Jeff Cease (guitar) w/ guitarist Marc Ford... they would release 4 albums on the Def Jam/ American label before finally splitting w/ Rubin's company around 1998.
The Black Crowes first big album was Shake Your Moneymaker in 1990 (the album that had "Jealous Again," "Twice As Hard," "Hard To Handle," and "She Talks To Angels") but, even then -- the year that grunge was kicking off with Nirvana's "Nevermind" album, indie shoe-gazer music was starting its rise, and pop-punk like Green Day was only 4 years away, to give you context -- the Black Crowes' sound was retro (which was part of their appeal). Their influences weren't the bands or sounds of the 80s so much as the bluesy-rock bands of the 60s and 70s, like the Rolling Stones, Humble Pie, and Rod Stewart's band The Faces. I think you see a ton of that in music and fashion though. About 20-30 years after any given style, it makes a resurgence for a little while. In the early 80s, we had throwback 50s styles and sounds filtered through a punk rock aesthetic. In the 90s, you saw 60s and 70s styles and vibes becoming cool again. And even now, in 2023, you see early 2000s fashions are starting to make a comeback. It's all a big cycle.
Just saw them 2 months ago for the Shake Your Moneymaker 30 year anniversary tour. Most fun I've had in a concert in a while! Chris's presence on stage is magical and the whole band is tight.

The piano is courtesy of the great Chuck Leavell. He's played a ton with The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers, Sea Level, Gov't Mule, Clapton, etc. etc. etc. Total greatness for decades. So much soul.

I actually dropped in here to give a nudge toward Sting Me. When that 2nd album came out and it kicked off with Sting Me... I knew I was in for an EXCELLENT ride for the rest of the cd.

Love The Black Crows! Great reaction. I do have a suggestion, the band's name is Little Feat and they have a bunch of great songs, I would suggest "Fat man in the bathtub" and "Dixie Chicken". They've got a unique sound and are a "jam" type band. I've seen them in concert several times and their encores are like 20-30 of the entire band just jamming away. I think you'd like them.
The Black Crowes used to bill themselves as the only real "rock and roll" rock and roll band. At the time they were at their height, you could make a case for that among a sea of hard rock, metal, grunge, alternative and so on.
"Jealous Again", "She Talks to Angels" and "Hard to Handle" which y'all have reacted to previously are all off of the same Black Crowes's debut cd released in 1990 called "Shake Your Moneymaker." "Sister Luck" is another great song off that album. Yes, it definitely has that bluesy Rolling Stones sound. "Remedy" is off their 2nd cd "Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" released in 1992. They'll be the special guests for Aerosmith on their just announced farewell tour and I'm excited to be seeing them both in Detroit in September!

I saw the Crowes live just after they completed there first album at a bar called Club Soda in Vancouver BC. They had only had been on the radio for a couple weeks. Nobody really knew who they were. The show had maybe 50 people. They played and sang there hearts out so I bought them a couple rounds of Heineken and sat on edge of the stage watching them play. One the best shows I ever saw.
Love the Black Crowes! Took the family to a show at a smaller venue here in Houston when they were touring on their first album. The first sign of a memorable night was when we walked in and heard James Brown's "Shake Your Money Maker" playing through the sound system. My then 17 year old daughter heard the first 4 chords of Twice as Hard and headed for the for the front of the stage.
I remember a college buddy of mine went down to visit a high school buddy at his college for spring break in either 89 or 90 down South (East Coast South East)...came back from Spring Break and couldn't stop talking about this band he saw in a bar down there...The Black Crowes. MTV was still playing music then and the band got on the channel's radar....the rest is history...but it was amazing how "fast" they broke....Their very first album is a classic, to me they remind me of a mix of Mick Taylor era Rolling Stones and The Faces....
The Black Crowes are the very definition of a Rock Band. One of the best live shows that I've ever seen. They should have been bigger but the Two Robinson brothers, Lead vocals and lead guitar, fought like they were going to kill each other. Which limited the band and caused them to break up. They are back together now but I wonder what might have been had they not split up.
My favorite Black Crows song is Hard To Handle (although I believe it is a cover that both Otis Redding and The Grateful Dead had previously recorded). It's one of their hardest rockers.
The Black Crowes hold a special place in my heart. They came on the scene during a memorable period of my life, butthey were especially loved by one of my best friends, may she rest in peace.
This song hit MTV, that was our introduction to The Black Crows. I bought the CD, but didn't listen to it a lot until I heard Hard To Handle on the radio a few months later. That's when the CD went into heavy rotation near my ears.
The 90s was such an amazing time for music I was born January 1970 so I had the pleasure of going through the 70s 80s and 90s experiencing amazing decades of music! And I love all of it but 90s music for me means something because that was the decade that I was in my 20s so that’s when I was out with my friends and partying, and just loving life so I love ALL 90s, R&B rock everything!

So far you have done 5 songs by them... 4 of them are from their Debut album "Shake Your Money Maker" (Twice as Hard, Jealous Again, Hard to Handle, She Talks to Angels). That was a GREAT album... The song Remedy is from their second album "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion". One of my favorites that you haven't done yet is "Blackberry" from their 4th album "Three Snakes and One Charm". The video takes place inside of an old View Master toy.
In my opinion, The Black Crowes were the best Rock band of the 90's. They managed to release at least 4 great albums during this decade and everybody can't say the same thing with hindsight. By the way, they had another rocking banger during the late 90's: "Kickin' My Heart Around". During the very early 90's, there was another great band in the same vein: The Quireboys (also known in the USA as The London Quireboys). They hard great tunes like "7 O' Clock", "I Don't Love You Aynmore", "There She Goes Again", "Hey You". And if you want to check out a very recent Rock band, you could eventually try Dirty Honey. They have songs like "Heartbreaker", "Rollin' 7s", "When I'm Gone", "California Dreamin' ", "Another Last Time", "Gypsy".
This album called shake your money maker was their debut album came out early 90’s blew up big time in a great way. Every song on it is AWESOME . Can’t go wrong wrong with anything on that album.
I get how you can describe the Crowed’ music as American rock, but truth be told, it’s British and European musicians who got into American blues, rockabilly & rock ‘n roll in the late 50’s to mid-60’s, amped it up and popularized it over here! Examples are The Beatles, the Stones, the Faces etc.

Love some black crows! The lead singer was married to Kate Hudson. Black crows were a big group in the 90’s and they had a sound that was new to most. Great song and reaction!
This was more of a throwback style at the time. Amongst a sea of hair metal bands, the Black Crowes definitely stood out and weren't conforming to the current trend.
All those songs you know are early ones. They've got a pretty wide range of sounds, some fairly eclectic. Those first two cd's played on repeat for me for years.

You mention the keys. They were done by Chuck Leavell for the album who has played with The Stones ( & The Allman Brothers before The Stones) for years.
When these dudes popped up, music on FM radio was taking a turn. These guys came in just after G&R made a footprint and the door opened for the grunge style to open up. FM music was at a somewhat stale spot in the early-mid 80s which is why some stations even went to talk radio (you're welcome Mr Howard Stern). But by the late 80s and early 90s, it became alive again - thanks in part to G&R, Crowes, Green Day, U2 & Aerosmith. Indy bands also started taking up space in the music-sphere. Early 90s to me was a great time for music lovers.
Another band you guys need to check out is Screamin Cheetah Wheelies (I know, crazy name right?). They broke up years ago and the lead singer Mike Farris went solo ( you HAVE to check him out too!). The band was out of Memphis, if I’m not mistaken. They had some really great songs - great guitar and Mike Farris’ voice has amazing range. Suggestions: Standing in the Sun, Gypsy Lullabye, Magnolia, Sister Mercy, Moses Brown, Ride the Tide.
She Talks to Angels, Hard To Handle, and Jealous are all from their Debut album "Shake Your Money Maker". Remedy is from the Sophmore Release. Black Friday ( Great one is from "Three Snakes & a Charm" which you absolutely have to listen too.
U2 is going to be performing at the new Madison Square Garden Sphere in Vegas this autumn. They are playing the entire Achtung Baby album as part of this special residency. The Sphere is a first if it's kind music venue that fits like 15K people has 360 audio and video boards built in to the walls of the sphere. You should do another U2 song from this album. The Fly, Mysterious Ways, Even Better Than the Real Thing to name a few. It's the same album that the song One is from.
Saw them for the first time at a club called Illusions in N. Charleston...free..! I was wiring the new sports bar ("Sneakers") when I met some of the crew. I was toke-, uh, talking with the stage manager out back when I told him I worked for Starbuck several years earlier... He needed a spotlight operator for the show, but he could only pay me in bar tab and a free t-shirt... I still have that shirt today..!
When these guys came out they were different and a much needed sound. I still love their music. A great band too is Tesla! Little Suzy, What You Give, Love Song I think you'd really like them.

The Black Crows are part of my music collection and I have heard this song many times, but it wasn't until I saw this video that I made the connection of how much Chris Robinson reminds me of Rod Stewart. "Sister Luck" is another great song off that album. Yes, it definitely has that bluesy Rolling Stones sound. "Remedy" is off their 2nd cd "Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" released in 1992. They'll be the special guests for Aerosmith on their just announced farewell tour and I'm excited to be seeing them both in Detroit in September!

I saw the Crowes live just after they completed there first album at a bar called Club Soda in Vancouver BC. They had only had been on the radio for a couple weeks. Nobody really knew who they were. The show had maybe 50 people. They played and sang there hearts out so I bought them a couple rounds of Heineken and sat on edge of the stage watching them play. One the best shows I ever saw.
Love the Black Crowes! Took the family to a show at a smaller venue here in Houston when they were touring on their first album. The first sign of a memorable night was when we walked in and heard James Brown's "Shake Your Money Maker" playing through the sound system. My then 17 year old daughter heard the first 4 chords of Twice as Hard and headed for the for the front of the stage.
I remember a college buddy of mine went down to visit a high school buddy at his college for spring break in either 89 or 90 down South (East Coast South East)...came back from Spring Break and couldn't stop talking about this band he saw in a bar down there...The Black Crowes. MTV was still playing music then and the band got on the channel's radar....the rest is history...but it was amazing how "fast" they broke....Their very first album is a classic, to me they remind me of a mix of Mick Taylor era Rolling Stones and The Faces....

The Black Crowes are the very definition of a Rock Band. One of the best live shows that I've ever seen. They should have been bigger but the Two Robinson brothers, Lead vocals and lead guitar, fought like they were going to kill each other. Which limited the band and caused them to break up. They are back together now but I wonder what might have been had they not split up.
My favorite Black Crows song is Hard To Handle (although I believe it is a cover that both Otis Redding and The Grateful Dead had previously recorded). It's one of their hardest rockers.

The Black Crowes hold a special place in my heart. They came on the scene during a memorable period of my life, butthey were especially loved by one of my best friends, may she rest in peace.

This song hit MTV, that was our introduction to The Black Crows. I bought the CD, but didn't listen to it a lot until I heard Hard To Handle on the radio a few months later. That's when the CD went into heavy rotation near my ears.

The 90s was such an amazing time for music I was born January 1970 so I had the pleasure of going through the 70s 80s and 90s experiencing amazing decades of music! And I love all of it but 90s music for me means something because that was the decade that I was in my 20s so that’s when I was out with my friends and partying, and just loving life so I love ALL 90s, R&B rock everything!

The song Remedy is from their second album "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion". One of my favorites that you haven't done yet is "Blackberry" from their 4th album "Three Snakes and One Charm". The video takes place inside of an old View Master toy.
“Hard to Handle” is a serious rocker and they have a live album of mostly Zeppelin tracks with Jimmy Page. Absolutely worth checking out.
In my opinion, The Black Crowes were the best Rock band of the 90's. They managed to release at least 4 great albums during this decade and everybody can't say the same thing with hindsight. By the way, they had another rocking banger during the late 90's: "Kickin' My Heart Around".
During the very early 90's, there was another great band in the same vein: The Quireboys (also known in the USA as The London Quireboys). They hard great tunes like "7 O' Clock", "I Don't Love You Aynmore", "There She Goes Again", "Hey You".
And if you want to check out a very recent Rock band, you could eventually try Dirty Honey. They have songs like "Heartbreaker", "Rollin' 7s", "When I'm Gone", "California Dreamin' ", "Another Last Time", "Gypsy".
This album called shake your money maker was their debut album came out early 90’s blew up big time in a great way. Every song on it is AWESOME . Can’t go wrong wrong with anything on that album.
They have that cool, sorta gritty, jam thing going. Love them.

I get how you can describe the Crowed’ music as American rock, but truth be told, it’s British and European musicians who got into American blues, rockabilly & rock ‘n roll in the late 50’s to mid-60’s, amped it up and popularized it over here! Examples are The Beatles, the Stones, the Faces etc.

Love some black crows! The lead singer was married to Kate Hudson. Black crows were a big group in the 90’s and they had a sound that was new to most. Great song and reaction!

This was more of a throwback style at the time. Amongst a sea of hair metal bands, the Black Crowes definitely stood out and weren't conforming to the current trend.
All those songs you know are early ones. They've got a pretty wide range of sounds, some fairly eclectic. Those first two cd's played on repeat for me for years.

You mention the keys. They were done by Chuck Leavell for the album who has played with The Stones ( & The Allman Brothers before The Stones) for years.
When these dudes popped up, music on FM radio was taking a turn. These guys came in just after G&R made a footprint and the door opened for the grunge style to open up. FM music was at a somewhat stale spot in the early-mid 80s which is why some stations even went to talk radio (you're welcome Mr Howard Stern). But by the late 80s and early 90s, it became alive again - thanks in part to G&R, Crowes, Green Day, U2 & Aerosmith. Indy bands also started taking up space in the music-sphere. Early 90s to me was a great time for music lovers.

Another band you guys need to check out is Screamin Cheetah Wheelies (I know, crazy name right?). They broke up years ago and the lead singer Mike Farris went solo ( you HAVE to check him out too!). The band was out of Memphis, if I’m not mistaken. They had some really great songs - great guitar and Mike Farris’ voice has amazing range. Suggestions: Standing in the Sun, Gypsy Lullabye, Magnolia, Sister Mercy, Moses Brown, Ride the Tide.

The Black Crows will be the opening band on Aerosmith's "Peace Out" tour, rumored to be their last.
U2 is going to be performing at the new Madison Square Garden Sphere in Vegas this autumn. They are playing the entire Achtung Baby album as part of this special residency. The Sphere is a first if it's kind music venue that fits like 15K people has 360 audio and video boards built in to the walls of the sphere. You should do another U2 song from this album. The Fly, Mysterious Ways, Even Better Than the Real Thing to name a few. It's the same album that the song One is from.
"Bad Luck Blue Eyes" is my favorite from the Crowes.
She talks to angels and hard to handle that you mentioned are off this same album. Every song on this album is great.
Saw them for the first time at a club called Illusions in N. Charleston...free..! I was wiring the new sports bar ("Sneakers") when I met some of the crew.
I was toke-, uh, talking with the stage manager out back when I told him I worked for Starbuck several years earlier...
He needed a spotlight operator for the show, but he could only pay me in bar tab and a free t-shirt...
I still have that shirt today..!
When these guys came out they were different and a much needed sound. I still love their music. A great band too is Tesla! Little Suzy, What You Give, Love Song I think you'd really like them.

The Black Crows are part of my music collection and I have heard this song many times, but it wasn't until I saw this video that I made the connection of how much Chris Robinson reminds me of Rod Stewart. Not so much the later more commercialized Rod Stewart, but you have to go all the way back to 1971 and I found a video of him doing "Maggie Mae" and even though its a slower song I think you would be able to see what I'm talking about. th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=rod+stewart
