Ford Focus ST Diesel Car Review - Paul Woodford

  • The latest motoring film from Paul Woodford’s ‘Car Films’ channel features a car which is sure to divide opinion in a room full of petrolheads.
The Focus ST TDCI has always been pitched as being every bit the performance car its petrol stablemate is, balancing fun and style with practically and economy.
There isn’t a ‘D’ to be found anywhere on the diesel Focus, not even under the bonnet - were Ford afraid to lessen the appeal to performance car enthusiasts, or is there another reason for this apparently bullish way of presenting a diesel car in exactly the same way as one of the best selling hot hatchbacks of all time?
Join Paul Woodford behind the wheel, for an honest and entertaining adventure, behind the wheel of the Ford Focus ST TDCI.
For more original motoring content, subscribe to this channel or visit www.CarFilms.co.uk.
Filmed and edited on iPhone/iPad - thanks for watching.

This was the best review I've seen on the Focus ST diesel. Bonus: now I know what to tell my wife. Actually thinking of buying one, the estate version. I believe it to be one of the best all-rounders in the used market. Congrats on the great video. 😃

I had a Focus ST Diesel. Good, capable car, I won't lie... Loved the economy on it (could daily it without breaking the bank). I did however get a bit bored of it after a year (I wanted a bit more grunt) so traded up to an RS (which of course is in a different league). I do still miss the ST from time to time though and wish I could have kept it alongside the RS to use as a daily.
    Great review.

Very nice motor, not as nippy as the skoda but feels a more compact drive and the cockpit is put together better.
Tech is better than the vrs , though sports mode on the ST doesnt seem to do much ?

    • @CarFilms

ćofi everything gets very hot when the DPF regens, most cars take on a slightly different exhaust note.

The best feature for me is the seats(recaro buckets) followed by front end.
Worst feature is a thief can steal it quicker then a hay-fever sneeze if you don't buy additional security. The dealer never mentioned that part

A little bit of tuning and that focus could probably outdo the petrol version.
A good rule of thumb is that if a petrol has 140 hp, than the diesel must at least have 100 to be equal.

The ST TDCI is all fur coat and no knickers.
The engine noise might sound similar inside to that of the petrol version, however from the outside it's disappointing. A couple of months ago I noticed a neighbour had a Focus ST of this vintage, however when he started it up I was sorely disappointed that it was a diesel.
I like the torque that a largish diesel exhibits, especially in the mid range, but an ST needs to be petrol.
Each to their own I suppose.

    • @bazf7742

      Mines faster than a petrol!

    • @Rapscallion2009
      @Rapscallion2009 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, the petrol is definitely lighter and more powerful (stock). But if you do 20,000 miles a year then the cost difference between 30mpg and 40mpg is significant. That's really who these things are aimed at - company car drivers with a sense of humour.
