Before you made your last HA video, I thought I was going crazy. I kept trying to use it and after a week or two, my skin would be FLAKING. Every bit of press talks about HA like it’s the holy grail, you’re the only one who has given context and nuance to the topic. Thank you.
Mine too!!! I kept trying to use HA and my skin was peeling in the exact same way it would after a severe sunburn. It would NOT stop peeling, no matter what I did. I finally googled it, learned HA can cause irritation and discontinued it immediately. Within 48 hours, my skin had completely stopped peeling. It's about 1.5 weeks later now, and my skin tone is evening back out, break outs are lessening and there's no peeling to speak of. Sensitivity is reducing too, which had peaked to a severe point while using HA while never previously having sensitive skin in my life! Yikes :(
@@bibbidybopp760same! But I think it’s stil acid, like salicylic, glycolic, lactic - those acids cause my scin irritation and same as you - flaking and dryness
Agreed! My skin was so red and I did get flaking and even what looked like cracking or wrinkles around my nose. I’d never had that. It really irritated my skin but I kept using it thinking there’s no way this is the culprit. HA free now and that went away. However check your makeup too cause they started putting it in that too now.
As a person with a degree in Philosophy I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this video. Why? Because the foundation for the Doctors arguments or theses are so well thought out, well founded, routed in logic, supported by facts and studies…need I go on? Doctor my compliments this was simply the best TH-cam video on skincare I have ever seen. Thank you.
With all due respect, you cannot compare philosophy with scientific research. Philosophy is pontificating without facts. Scientific discovery on the other hand is factual proof.
@@s.b626 Philosophy is the basis of all logical thought processes as well as the accepted systems for developing, proving and/or disproving all great advances in thought. To reduce philosophy to mere “pontificating” shows a thorough misunderstanding of the complexities and development of thought as well as the testing the validity of thought and theorem, ethics, and all the “great debates”. What so many of these skincare companies use to push their products is rhetoric (see/read Aristotle on Rhetoric”) and I was pointing out how refreshing it was that the doctor addressed the industry and all its claims with factual, logical and ethical claims and data. Philosophy and it’s pursuit of the great debate is far from mere pontification it is the route of knowledge.
@@magicboy4388 I like philosophy but you just sound pretentious. And all good-faith derms/doctors will follow science, not just the one in this video.
@@ninakore So somehow complimenting the doctor for a presentation well done is pretentious. If that is the case than ok, I’m pretentious. And I repeat, well done doctor. Philosophically speaking you present a well founded, organized, argument to support your thesis. Thank you again.
@@s.b626 Philosophy is a discipline that investigates fundamental questions about knowledge, existence, ethics, and the nature of reality. It involves rigorous thinking, logical reasoning, and critical analysis to examine concepts, beliefs, and arguments. While philosophy may involve abstract and conceptual discussions, it is not divorced from facts or evidence. Philosophers often draw on empirical data, scientific discoveries, historical events, and other forms of evidence to inform their inquiries. Philosophy also encompasses the examination of logical structures and the analysis of arguments to determine their validity and soundness. Moreover, philosophy plays a vital role in shaping many other disciplines, including science, ethics, political theory, and even mathematics. It helps develop a framework for reasoning and understanding the foundations of various fields of study. While it is true that philosophy can sometimes involve speculative or theoretical discussions that go beyond what can be empirically proven, this is not unique to philosophy. I have always felt some kind of discomfort after using HA products and didn’t know why. Your first video was life changing. I now search for products based on glycerin instead of HA and they are much more better so thank you ❤️
For anyone who would like to know more, there was a really interesting article in Harper's Bazaar titled "Are You Misusing Hyaluronic Acid?". Dr. Idriss was one of the dermatologists interviewed. Part of the article talks about how hyaluronic acid "may feed a type of fungus that is naturally present on the skin’s surface: microorganisms on the microbiome called dermatophytes. “We have fungi that live on our skin that thrive on sugar, and HA is a sugar,” says Schook. “Once the fungi ingest the sugar, they secrete an enzyme that breaks down our skin's barrier that allows bacteria and viruses to invade, creating inflammation.” So there's an extra level of inflammation because of these fungi feasting on HA. Yes, hyaluronic acid is a fungus-snack for your face. And it's in SO many products, including make-up, it's almost exhausting to manoeuvre around them.
Eh, claims like that need evidence cited to have substance for me. In a study looking at HA for it’s antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti fungal activities found that it inhibited the growth of candida. It also found that using HA in formulation with known anti fungals such as ketoconazole and clotrimazole helped them penetrate better to kill fungi. I think more research is needed.
@@EspadasYCopas Yes, so it’s helpful lol. Clotrimazole, while a good option, is not water soluble so pairing it with HA was shown to be beneficial in getting it to work.
I cut out HA products and look for glycerin based on watching you last video about HA and it has drastically improved my dehydration. My (ex) facial lady constantly told me I need HA serum and I tried to educate her and told her a well respected dermatologist on you tube (you) said……she tried to continually convince me, which is one of the reasons why I no longer go to her as I can’t have someone who have different beliefs working on my face 😅
This explains SO much!! I have believed for a few years now that certain HA containing products result in me having tiny, blister-like breakouts, and now I know why that might be happening !! Thank you so much Dr. Idriss!
@@chris-anndunn Just wondering who is your dermatologist in New Orleans? I live near New Orleans and looking for a good dermatologist. I know you posted this months ago and hope you see this.
Honestly, after i watch her 1st video about HA, i cut all of my HA products.. and it is the BEST decision i ever made!! My skin now in the best form than ever!! No more crazy breakouts and patchiness 🥰❤️ thank you doctor!!
My skin is definitely the perfect representation of what you are talking about in this video. I have SUPER dry skin all year round and live in a dry climate, cut out HA and starting using only products you have recommended. Completely changed my skin. Constantly get compliments on my skin. I'm 45. Then I bought into that cosrx snail mucin hype and started using it, my skin was dry again and I realized it's loaded with HA. tsk tsk. Cut that out and boom, skin returned to supple and lovely. Thank you.
Now I understand why I was always breaking out when trying HA! I now try to steer clear of anything that has acid connected to it and creams that say they repair. I have multiple contact allergies with extremely sensitive skin. Oh! And rosacea! Lucky me! I learn a lot from your videos and enjoy the process. I’m 67 years old and skincare is still a process. Thanks for helping me
I can attest that Dr. Idriss sees patients!! I'm lucky to have her as my doctor. I have eczema and I never realized that cereva have HA in their moisturizing cream. Since learning about HA from you 2 years ago, I've switched over to Aveeno eczema therapy and my skin has not flared up as much.
I never had eczema but been using Cerave moisturizer since last year, and during the winter & up until now my skin is having these flare ups! I learned about this issue last night. Going to completely stop using it from now on. Returning some of my moisturizers that has HA! Hopefully my skin heals up quickly. Couldn’t figure out what was causing these flare ups. Hopefully its just an allergic reaction to HA!
HA does not bother my skin ( i have used HA serums by two companies so far) but prior to using HAs I used Cerave which I found extremely irritating. I don't know why so many derms recommend it. Am I an exception? I don't know what parts in it were causing the irritation. ps: I have very sensitive skin
@@achocot I also have very sensitive skin and when I was using ceraVe moisturising cream my acne flared up like crazy and it was very inflamed and irritated and dry ':D. Maybe it works very well for some peoplee, but as soon as i stopped using ceraVe products my acne improved instantly and now it's so much better and my skin does't hurt to touch anymore ':D
I also want to say even though I’m not your client, I feel cared for knowing this information! I’ve only been to 2 dermatologists, one who basically told me to go hard with HA and also prescribed me a lot of stuff for my dermatitis and rosacea that ended up messing me up internally as well as externally. Long story with antibiotics and all. It made me scared and anxious to try to find another dermatologist. I saw a new one yesterday and explained my life skin story and she didn’t say anything about HAs that I was using and she’s putting me on 2 other meds but I still feel doubtful. However I feel like learning from you can at least help me to make better decisions for my skins health and that can go a long way. So I appreciate you 🙌❤️
Glycerin is legitimately the holy grail of my skin care routine. And it is SO inexpensive, which is probably why you don't see a lot of derms pushing it, because I can buy it for $6 on amazon. My skin started burning and turning red with every moisturizer and face wash I tried, even ones that were supposed to be for sensitive dry skin like Cerave, then I watched Dr. Idriss and checked the ingredients and almost EVERYTHING I was using contained HA. So I simplified and cut out everything--now I just use Olay's Retinol serum at night with a glycerin/water spray overtop (sans HA), and in the morning, glycerin as primer, with Avene Dermabsolu overtop (also sans HA). My skin has never looked better. This woman really is a prophet of skincare. I love her.
This Arizonan with Rosacea really appreciates this message! I try to avoid HA in products, but since it's the hot ingredient, that's nearly impossible!
Omg I've been dealing with irritated red face for several years. I was going nuts thinking why the product recommended don't work for me. Of course they all have HA. Thanks for sharing this information cause many of us are suffering without knowing what's the real problem. Have a blessed day. I'm crazy no more.
You are so right! My son has been working so hard on his acne...he stopped the products that had HA in them and his skin has never looked better!! Wow! Thanks for spreading the word!
I live in Singapore, it’s a very humid country. HA seems to work here. I never used to use it because I’ve been following you since 2 years ago. But now knowing it could be ok in a humid environment, I may try a product I accidentally bought with HA and maybe use it only once or twice a week. I used it last night and it immediately gave me that plump dewy skin, I was skeptical how it could have that effect after just one use. So now it know it’s kinda ‘inflamed’ 😑… thanks for explaining…
When the brand, The Ordinary. hit the market... I fell hard for their rhetoric. I had all my little bottles lined up, creating a complicated skin care routine. (My skin started to look terrible!) Thank goodness I figured out the error of my ways. My skincare routine now is very simple, including Tretinoin from my dermatologist. And guess what? My skin has NEVER looked better, even at 60!!
@@ABHISHEKSHARMA-mp1jo Using too many products in my skincare routine. And when my skin reacted badly, I would buy new serums to try. I still use a few of their products that I really like, but I’m not over doing it!
@@nikkilaundrie AM Cleanse with water, while skin in wet, apply The Ordinary Amino Acids (fantastic for mature skin) and a splash of the Cerave toner (I use it like an essence to add ceramides to my skin), then a vitamin C serum (I've been using the one Taylor Wynn suggested, the Goodal Vitamin C serum), Elf Holy Hydration eye cream, then The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors moisturizer. If I need more moisture, I will add Vanicream or Cerave moisture cream. The SPF I use is from Beauty of Joseon, Sun Relief spf. PM I use Albolene Face Moisturizer and Makeup remover, then Cleanse with Cerave moisturizing cleanser and Elf Holy Hydration cleanser (I mix them). On wet face, I add the amino acids and Cerave toner. I let my face completely dry, then apply Tretinoin .025%- lowest strength, then moisturizer. I play around with moisturizers, but I mainly use Vanicream and the one from The Ordinary. Now, I keep on hand The Ordinary Lactic Acid and Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating Treatment if I feel like my skin needs exfoliating. But to be honest, since using Tretinoin, I haven't needed to use these.. I hope this helps!! You can see that I try to find affordable products that are fragrance free and WORK!!
I have a couple lip glosses with HA in them, and they ALWAYS make my lips dryer after using them, so I’ve been paying close attention again to ingredients in all my skincare and makeup products. I remember you educating us on this a couple years ago and have been meaning to find that video so I could refresh my knowledge of why HA is not the best humectant. And here you are! THANK YOU! 🙏🏻
I’m so glad you’re shedding light on this topic. Back in 2019, my acne was the worst it’s ever been, and it turned out that most of the products I was using had HA in them. On top of that, I was living in the southwest, which is a very dry climate. All of this contributed to my skin becoming really inflamed and dry. Things improved for me only after I ditched most of my HA products.
Thank you so much for this. I decided to try a hyaluronic acid free routine since last Saturday and the redness and inflammation that I had been feeling on my skin for months has practically disappeared. I'm blown away by this
Yes, yes, 1000x yes! I have bought and discarded whole product lines, high-end and drugstore, bc they “burned” and turned me red. Like bright red erythema, everywhere the product touched. Over time, realized the common denominator was HA. Thank you for confirming my suspicions!
Dr. Idriss, I owe you a massive THANK YOU. I noticed my combination skin getting further and further out of balance over the last 9 months or so. Some parts were so dry that they were flaking and others were so oily that my acne was worse than in my teens. It turns out that almost every product I was using had at least some HA. I cut that stuff out and my skin got dramatically better in less than a week.
Personally I’ve never had an issue with HA. I don’t use a dedicated product but it’s in a lot of lightweight moisturizers. It’s great for oily skin in a humid climate because it doesn’t stay dewy and slimy like glycerin.
Oh, the Aveeno Calm and Restore Serum is a holly grail for me! I just love the texture and how it feels on my skin, there is nothing like it ❤ And here in UK it comes with a pump, not a dropper 😀
Thank you Thank you Thank you Dr. Idriss!!!!! God Bless you for standing for the truth and the real science and for bringing it to us,the consumer. 🙏❤️
She is a gem 💎 because of her education in previous video i don’t use HA anymore. Current video have some extra very interesting info.Glycerin works very well on my skin and I am oily. As usual thank to Shereene for teaching us and going against the current but telling truth ❤
Hello Dr. Shereene, can we talk about brightening product such as arbutin, Niacinamide, Kojic, Traxenamic and rank which is most effective to least. 😊 thank you, Pau from Thailand
I don't seem to have a problem with HA, probably because I live where it's very humid and do not have dry or sensitive skin. However, since I've been watching you I've been mindful of which products contain it and try to use better ingredients. Geek and Gorgeous just opened their US website, so I ordered a few of their items to try and I'm pleased that most of their products are glycerin based (even their HA serum, ha!)
When I stumbled on one of your videos I was surprised at the way you greet your viewers. But you are yourself a real geek and I do appreciate it immensely! In the flood of all 'guides' based mostly on hearsay and advertising your channel shines. I do love a good science based argument: ) And thank you very much for this one.
I have very sensitive skin and rosacea; HA made me break out so badly! I stopped using it years ago and it helped so much. I felt like the only one who was sensitive to it because it has been touted as this holy grail product but I just can't tolerate it. Good to know I'm not alone, and there's a reason why!
I just saw this video and swapped out my cereve moisturizer for AVEENO- my rosacea skin is so much calmer and red is dramatically better… thank you for everything you do
Thank you so much! Because i thought i was crazy after i used HA, my skin was flaking and dry! I will start to look up all my products and do some cleaning! I will try your products too! Love you
I also fell for these marketing claims and tried a hyaluronic acid serum. My skin was irritated and I got breakouts. I was first confused and did not want to admit that it was due to the oh so great hydration genius. I was even sad at first, my skin did not tolerate it. 😅 Now use a glycerin serum. Muuuuyyuch better. Thank you for your great content 😘
Thank you!!!!!! Everyone at the beauty counter keeps telling me my sensitivity to HA can’t be .. “because we produce it naturally.”Thank you for the deep dive explanation! I love your videos! Ow I can refer them to your video.
Je vous adore! Vous avez repondue à plusieurs de mes questions sur HA à FPM. J'aime tellement votre aplomb, honnêteté et votre sens de l'humour. Merci infiniment
Thank you for this video!!! For sure, you just saved my skin! I recently started again with HA serums because apparently I like to complicate my life and the cold weather just started in Austria, thinking that I just didn't spend enough on a good one. So here I am 100 euros later, after a couple of days of applying these serums, my skin turned red and became suuuuuper dry even though before applying the apparently holy grail of HA ( Vichy Mineral89 and the other one, the little bottle for eye area only) my skin was just fine. I though I am crazy, how did my skin dare not be contempt about my so expensive investment?! It must be the other products, the Aveeno Calm repair night cream which actually did great for my skin BEFORE applying these serums. So thank you again! I will be forever grateful to you! ❤
Hydration needs to come from somewhere so you must drink plenty of water, which most people do not do, for it to not dehydrate your skin which causes inflammation/breakouts. I have noticed living in a dry climate that HA is not benefiticial and that glycerin is a much better product to keep skin feeling and looking hydrated and dewy. My skin is not very sensitive at all, but I noticed a difference for the worse once I started using HA topically. Thank you for the truthful honesty. Much appreciated.
Thank you for this update on HA!! Finding you years ago has saved my skin. Back when I was struggling with severe dehydration I told my dermatologist that HA didn't work for me and didn't make sense to use in such a dry climate, he told me I was completely wrong. I feel so justified now that I've found you, lol. I now have bunch of new products to try--thanks for all the research!!
Thank you - thank you - thank you! I live in the South West USA - not on the coast - so most of the year it is very dry. It took me a while to realize why all of the 'hydrating' products I was layering on my skin wasn't working. It was the Hyaluronic Acid! Out here in arid climate, you lose a lot of moisture and hydration, through sweating, duh. BUT, it's not as noticeable because the sweat evaporates off your skin quickly; leaving it dry, and a thin layer of salt if you're active. HA exacerbates this! Thank you for listing products that do not have HA. I with more influencers would make videos for hydrating skin care in arid climates. xxx
Eye opening! Thank you for educating us. I suffer from rosacea and couldn't figure out why my skin was being so reactive on "gentle products" turns out most of my routine had HA in it! Time to cut it out cold turkey. Would love a video on recommendations of good hydrating foundations/tinted cc creams without HA.
The Cerave moisturizer with HA was the worst product I've ever put on my face. My skin felt like it was on fire 24/7. Thank you for all the knowledge you share with us!! (Long time EU nerd patiently awaiting for international shipping 🥺)
Cerave moisturizer burns for a lot of people and its not good judgement and not critically thought out to only blame it on the HA. Its the complete formula that contributes to that and not just a single ingredient that this video makes it out to be. Just because a product has an HA in it doesnt automatically mean its 'inflammatory' either or would have the effects she nitpicked in those studies to confirm her bias against HA - without elaborating the specifics of the study. Not only is it not reliable but also irresponsible for someone with a title as a doctor to do.
I live in Colorado dry climate. I bought a moisturizer w HA in it. Worst moisturizer I have had. Couldn’t figure out why skin was drier than wit none until I watched your last video on HA. Thank you!
I never knew why it dried out my skin and make it even more red. My rosacea was never worse than when I was using HA serum. FAB ultra repair is the best! My husband even uses it.
i have rosacea and TO hyaluronic acid would make my skin SO MUCH WORSE! i was so confused bc everyone seemed to loveeee ha, but thanks to you i changed to a glycerin based serum and omg, thank you for the amazing information!
As someone with dry skin in a dry climate, I struggle SO MUCH trying to find HA free skincare. It’s almost impossible at this point (especially as I only buy CF & vegan skincare) and it’s so frustrating! HA dries my skin out even more and I want to avoid it at all costs but the skin care industry won’t let me live 😭
Very informative. The skincare industry always have a buzz ingredient to market products and HA is certainly the current one. I watch several dermatologists on YT and it is interesting that they have different perspectives on ingredients' benefits.
YES! Thank you for making this video. This is exactly why you're the only dermatologist I'm subscribed to on youtube. Loved your video regarding HA 2 years ago, and enjoyed this one as well! Finding skincare products that don't contain the following 3 ingredients: HA, Niacinamide and Vitamin C is becoming increasingly harder. All 3 irritate and dry out my skin (i'm just talking about mine, not the general population's). I just want to be able to not worry about checking every product for these 3 ingredients all the time. Also, when it comes to Niacinamide, could cosmetic companies at least list the percentages of niacinamide they put into their products? In clinical trials the scientists used 5%. I wonder what the cumulative percentage point of niacinamide an average skincare consumer uses per day after layering his or her products?
I'm glad I watched this! Thank you for the science to it. As someone with oily skin, during the winter, my skin gets dehydrated. Years ago, I tried HA and hated it. Because now, its so trendy, I learned I was using it wrong and was told I needed to sandwich HA with water and ocular products. I did it, and my skin looked so dull, I developed bumpy skin and skin again, felt tight and dry. Im looking for a replacement so ty for all the recs!
Hmmm, I use Hada Labo gokujyun lotion (moist) that one does have both glycerin and different levels of HA. I use that in all 4 seasons and I'm in NYC. Never had an issue.... it actually makes my moisturizer feel extra dewy!
I stopped using HA almost as soon as I started using it. I have extremely dry skin in an even drier climate, so when I learned about HA I was like, hell yes give me all of it. I bought an HA serum... and my skin dried out SO FAST. I started using an occlusive layer over it (aquaphor), and that helped... but what helped the most is when I stopped using HA altogether. Maybe it works for some, but definitely not for me. There's not enough moisture in the air around me (dry climate) for it to work the way I want it to, so it just sucks the moisture out of my skin. :/
I recently moved back to Southern California from New York so my skin is definitely adjusting to the new environment. I started using a mineral sunscreen that is primarily Zinc…it works wonderfully BUT it dried my skin out soooo much. As a result I started using tons and tons of my HA serum daily. I would apply the HA and then follow with CeraVe skin renewing Night Cream. I think it was a combination of things that were drying my skin but certainly overusing the HA wasn’t helping. I still use it but I just use a small amount and immediately follow with moisturizer and an oil. If I notice the weather is drier than normal or there isn’t a ton of humidity I skip it. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and info with the world!! I’m an aspiring esthetician (in school) and you’re such a huge inspiration to me. ❤
I learned this the hard way when I applied my go-to Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost and it accidentally went on my nose job scar, it got VERY red, inflamed and itchy but i didn’t really mind because i know that scars must be moisturised in order to prevent permanent scars, so i left it overnight and i woke up with pimple like bumps in my scar!
@@ermelinda2223 I use a soap by La Roche called Cicaplast B5 Lavant and a moisturiser from Avene (Concentrate Nutritive Revitalisante RICHE). They do their job very well!
A Sephora sales associate told me that you can’t overdo HA because it’s “just hydration”. I already knew about the issues with HA so I was stunned by this. I do use it, but only in certain products. It’s an ingredient in my toner and in my favorite serum. I don’t know if the HA if what’s helping me or if it’s the other ingredients, but I know I don’t want more of it in my moisturizer.
My skin hates HA, and it caused a bad break up with my last esthetician. I told her the HA serum I bought from her started breaking me out, and I wanted to return the new $200 bottle I hadn't yet opened. She said no, and got so offended, and told me I was not only wrong, and her products have never broken anyone out, but that judging from the picture I sent her, I just needed to come back for more facials. I had no idea she'd get so upset. I knew I was right, because my skin was clear before I started her facials, and the HA breakout was MUCH different than any normal acne I get. It was clearly just a bad reaction to the product. We cut ties... and I cut out the HA serum, and my break outs stopped, and my skin cleared up. The end. (I can tolerate a little HA if it ends up on my skin by accident, but the second I start using it consistently I break out.) Thank you for making this video, and making anyone who has a bad reaction to HA feel less crazy. Super helpful.
This video just answered my question of why my skin still feels so dehydrated although I use HA day and night. It feels good upon applications tho ngl but few minutes later, I can feel how dehydrated my skin is. Thank you very much, Dr!
I stocked up on HA recently when it was on Dale at Costco. After listening to you, I have been adding glycerin to it. I'll keep using it until it's gone. Thanks for your good and credible advice!❤
I cannot thank you enough for making this video and for explaining the science behind HA so brilliantly. HA seems to have been been pushed and pushed to consumers for decades now and I never quite understood why so many people's experiences, including mine, differed from the promises and claims made by brands and many public voices. I always felt that I must be in the wrong for not using it correctly or just having 'defective skin' that didn't react as it should. I have very similar feelings about niacinamide and I wonder if it has any similarities to HA in terms of it being the ingredient of the moment that is just added to anything and everything these days? I don't have a problem with niacinamide in moderation but moderation becomes impossible for the average consumer when it is added to almost every product we use. At the moment, I find it difficult to find products that don't contain niacinamide. The result for me at least is a niacinamide overload and resulting redness, inflammation, irritation and blemishes. The only time my skin ever breaks out is when I have inadvertently used a combination of products with too much niacinamide. Thank you again.❤ I can't tell you how much I appreciate your content. The way you communicate is just so engaging, relatable, balanced and informative.
Thank you Dr. Idriss for all your work in this channel. I'm learning so much from good dermatologists like you in youtube and yes, there's so much misinformation on internet... I just regret that I did't knew all this stuff about skincare ten years ago. But I'm so glad that today so good content is been shared by professionals that are nonsponsored by any lab, you make a big diference in our lives all around the world. You inspire! Thank you so much❤. I have been so frustrated, because I always see the oposite affect of HA than plump and hydrated skin. I live in a cold and dry place.
Dr. Dray needs to watch this video. She sees no issues with HA yet her commentors mention how it dries out their skin. I'm throwing out the HA serum from the Inkey List! When I used Cerave cleaser and moisturizer, my forehead skin got so rough and felt dry. I need to see if those products have HA in them. Thank you.
What a great video. I have very sensitive skin. I had Eucerin Hyaluron Filler cream and cleaner. As well as Mixa Hylaurongel serum. But my face didn´t like it. Thanks to your video I have realized where is the problem and another matter with essential oils that can irritate sensitive skin.
I have been so astonished to discover to discover I do not tolerate the topical HA, in addition to breaking when my skin meets sylicones. Any, I used to feel like the ungly duckling, the only one not fitting to the HA vibe. Than I have discovered your approach and I felt so relieved...And due to you, I look for glycering in the ingredinets list, in the top position :)
For me HA has been amazing..has improve my skin amaizingly...but is imp to learn how to use it properly and the enviroment you live in. I saw videos about it with Dr.Dray, Cassandra Bakson and The Budget Dermatologist before I started using it. Also imp to learn about diferent forms of vitm C (some of them are more irritating than others....in case you use them)
I’m so glad I found your content because I thought I was loosing my mind. Cos even derms over here be looking at me funny when I tell them I’m reactive to it
Thank you so much for giving product suggestions without hyaluronic acid. It is so difficult to find products that don’t contain it. I have one that I am trying to finish up and I looked at the ingredients last week and it has the salt form of HA. It’s all the way at the bottom of the ingredient list but it’s still there. UGHHHHH
I agree, it's really hard to find a product without HA. I've been listening/ watching Dr. Idriss for a year or two now and have followed some of her suggestions and my skin has been so much more stable. Even my esthetician thinks it looks healthier! I do use all of Dr. Idriss' products since they came out and they have been wonderful. I do add my prescriptions for rosecea and treinoin to them without issues. And as she mentioned I too add additional moisturizer when I'm dry due to climate or a bit too aggressive with my tretinoin. Love her transparency and the fact she tells you if what you are using works, regardless of what it is keep doing what you are doing!
I've been HA free for awhile, I have more recommendation than she listed here but most are products she has recommended previously. My skin has never been better.
Thank you for this thorough educational info about the literature of hyaluronic acid. Would love to learn more and looking forward for such content like this. Have a blessed Saturday 💯💯💯
All people say that felt discomfort using ha acid you might have intolerance for it as others have for different products. Ha working wonderfully for me and with no side effects
I have been using the CeraVe gentle cleanser for many years (decades). Before that, I used Aquanil, which was only available at the pharmacy in the hospital where my derm was. I assumed that CeraVe was the "same" essentially. My skin is very sensitive and quite dry now after a round of Accutane. I also have rosacea. I noticed that my face skin would often look better if I was traveling and maybe skimped out on some of my cleansing and regular facial products. I always assumed it was the water! There's HA in almost everything I'm using! Going to try to cut it out and see if it makes a difference. I've been struggling with this for years. Cetaphil's gentle cleanser has glycerin and is HA free :) Aquanil also is HA free! But it is difficult to find.
Since cutting out HA, my skin is no longer constantly dry. Thank you for being transparent with us.
Same - was wondering why products that should have worked for my skin didn't!
Same as me, very soon i found that it makes my skin look and feel drier, and I could not understand tons of advertisements
Funny, I had super dry skin until I started using AH and now is perfect. I guess depends on every skin.
SAME!!!
HA has destroyed my skin too! Never again!

“Once the fungi ingest the sugar, they secrete an enzyme that breaks down our skin's barrier that allows bacteria and viruses to invade, creating inflammation.”
So there's an extra level of inflammation because of these fungi feasting on HA.
Por course they penetrate better, it's bc of the molecular weight.
@@EspadasYCopas Yes, so it’s helpful lol. Clotrimazole, while a good option, is not water soluble so pairing it with HA was shown to be beneficial in getting it to work.
Wow I have fungal acne so good to know! So does squalane from sugar do this as well?
Idriss!
Yes, she practices and practices wonderfully! I am one of her patients. And if she didn't practice, where the hell would I go! 😂
You could see my derm in New Orleans. I love my derm and Dr. Shereene equally.
I envy you! I live too far away from her.
@@chris-anndunn Just wondering who is your dermatologist in New Orleans? I live near New Orleans and looking for a good dermatologist. I know you posted this months ago and hope you see this.
@@jewels7863 I actually live in Covington. My derm is Dr Julie Martin with McDaniel Dermatology.
Honestly, after i watch her 1st video about HA, i cut all of my HA products.. and it is the BEST decision i ever made!! My skin now in the best form than ever!! No more crazy breakouts and patchiness 🥰❤️ thank you doctor!!
Can you give me a list of your morning and evening skin care routine with products that don’t contain HA please?
My skin is definitely the perfect representation of what you are talking about in this video. I have SUPER dry skin all year round and live in a dry climate, cut out HA and starting using only products you have recommended. Completely changed my skin. Constantly get compliments on my skin. I'm 45. Then I bought into that cosrx snail mucin hype and started using it, my skin was dry again and I realized it's loaded with HA. tsk tsk. Cut that out and boom, skin returned to supple and lovely. Thank you.
I love the cosrx snail mucin! I do live in a humid environment, though. I would love other options. Is there a snail mucin product without HA?
@@eugeniaq887596 essence is good it has 0.001 HA
I love her.
What is the glycerin water spray you use? Pls and thank you!
Do you just use pure gyclin as a most?
Here for it!! 🎉🎉 Some friends and I, all with dry skin, all find it to be drying. It sucks everything out!
Makes me look like a prune unless I seal it with a heavy moisturizer. Even then it’s short lived. I try to avoid HA
This Arizonan with Rosacea really appreciates this message! I try to avoid HA in products, but since it's the hot ingredient, that's nearly impossible!
Good luck to you having Rosacea AND living in Arizona! The hot, dry climate must be brutal for you!
What mistakes did you make with the ordinary

@@Patti-1962 that skincare routine doesn't look that simple tho
It is practically impossible to find skin care products that do not contain HA. Toners, serums, creams, sunscreens, makeup... it is maddening 😭
but she lists about a zillion HA-free products in this video and told us specifically how to use them
It's absolutely everywhere. I just want something simple that is not heavy and Works
YES YES YES! Thank you for saying what needs to be said and for being so transparent with us! You are a breath of breath air in this industry! 🙌
Thank you for being honest!!! We def need doctors like you!!! many many thanks!!!
Personally I’ve never had an issue with HA. I don’t use a dedicated product but it’s in a lot of lightweight moisturizers. It’s great for oily skin in a humid climate because it doesn’t stay dewy and slimy like glycerin.
Me too
Oh, the Aveeno Calm and Restore Serum is a holly grail for me! I just love the texture and how it feels on my skin, there is nothing like it ❤ And here in UK it comes with a pump, not a dropper 😀
Just started using the cream with oat I like it

She is a gem 💎 because of her education in previous video i don’t use HA anymore. Current video have some extra very interesting info.Glycerin works very well on my skin and I am oily. As usual thank to Shereene for teaching us and going against the current but telling truth ❤
Thank you Dr. Shereene, for all the time and knowledge you share with all your skin nerds.
Thanks for this vid! I've struggled for acne for years and the HA has absolutely broke me out Everywhere! It's hard to find products without it.
I just saw this video and swapped out my cereve moisturizer for AVEENO- my rosacea skin is so much calmer and red is dramatically better… thank you for everything you do
Hi there, what aveeno moisturiser did you purchase??? I need to do the same lol
Hyaluronic acid completely dries out my already dehydrated skin and makes it so much worse! Thank you for speaking the truth on this Dr Idriss! 🙌🏻💞
I with more influencers would make videos for hydrating skin care in arid climates. xxx
Upvote on this from Las Vegas! Desert skincare FTW!

Você pode pedir ao seu dermatologista formular um hidratante para você e solicitar uma farmácia para formular o produto!
I'm in London and HA seems to work well under my moisturisers. Specifically the had labo llotions - get rid of dehydration with few applications
Thank you for your honesty. Honesty can save people money and frustrations
im allergic to HA so its so hard to find products for my skin, thanks for making this video!
CONSTANTLY learning new things from you - thank you for being so transparent!!
I cut HA and my skin feels muuuuuch more hydrated! Thank you for being honest! ❤
What do you use now? It’s so hard to find inexpensive cleaners and moisturizers without HA
The end.
(I can tolerate a little HA if it ends up on my skin by accident, but the second I start using it consistently I break out.)
Thank you for making this video, and making anyone who has a bad reaction to HA feel less crazy. Super helpful.
I cutout HA and switched it with snail mucin based products. It’s made such a big difference in my skin. It’s amazing.
This video just answered my question of why my skin still feels so dehydrated although I use HA day and night. It feels good upon applications tho ngl but few minutes later, I can feel how dehydrated my skin is. Thank you very much, Dr!

Thank you! HA moisturizers and serums NEVER worked for me. Now it makes sense :)
But I'm so glad that today so good content is been shared by professionals that are nonsponsored by any lab, you make a big diference in our lives all around the world. You inspire! I'm from Brazil, living in Chile. Can I ask you for a new video about skincare products for children? One of my daughters (6) have atopic skin and the other one (3) have blackheads on her nose and chin! Can you share some recommendations and good products on the market for our little ones? Obrigada y saludos de Chile! ❤
Thank you so much❤. I have been so frustrated, because I always see the oposite affect of HA than plump and hydrated skin. I live in a cold and dry place.
Would you link the pump dispenser for the Aveeno oat serum container? I’m having trouble with their dropper too. 13:38
I only use your tip by using glycerol and water. So good and so hydrating!
Thank you.
Would love to see what your pregnancy skin routine would be including your pillow talk derm products…if I’m using them, what else do I need?
I know this is a skincare vid but the makeup is on point 🤩 Please share what you're wearing!
All people say that felt discomfort using ha acid you might have intolerance for it as others have for different products. Ha working wonderfully for me and with no side effects
Next - niacinamide free products
Please
Nah we're not doing that.
Second this.
@serah Yes please😭😭
It's in every freaking product 😭
Where can I get that replacement pump for the Aveeno Oat Serum that you have? The one I have keeps getting clogged.
I love this! This is just like the videos from the early days of these video drops. J'adore!!! ❤
Here I’m! Dr You were so right. No more AH for me❤
Thank you for acknowledging us poor folks in Utah who have to deal with an ultra-dry climate! BTW - love your channel and your content!
Feeling validated. These are the things I’m always saying to my customers. Glycerin is the better humectant! My fave! Thanks, Doc!
Thank you for putting this out there,my atopic skin flares up with ha
Your products are so amazing! I’m obsessed! They work so beautifully. Thank you!!
This is perfect. My skin always feels dehydrated and irritated if I use products with HA. I kept wondering if I was doing something wrong. Thank you.
