Modern mattresses largely suck, big time. What you're demonstrating is not only useful, it's vital.
My sealy pillowtop mattress started sagging within the first few weeks. My mom got it under her name and credit card for easier payments, and she harrassed and pressured me to get a new mattress so it was a rush decision, and she picked a totally wrong mattress. I wanted the same mattress I had before, it lasted me 15 years, so we thought it'd be a no brainer. Wrong. Pillowtops are horrible nowadays, this mattress is so soft, I think she was rushing herself in the store too and picked a soft mattress by accident. I've been pressuring her to call the store for months but she won't do it. Now it's been 9 months with this horrible sagging mattress that cost $900, I'm still making payments too. I've tried rotating, vacuum sucking the body dents, it only helps for 1 night. It's sagging and I feel like I'm slanted when I lay on the bed. I'm a strict back sleeper at 160lbs, I need a firm non-pillow top. My back is aching horribly as I write this. It's literally sagging like the edges are higher and firm, and the entire middle is dipped, it's like a slope. In just a month this happened.
@@dreamrabbits5072 Oh, that's really tough on you. If it's any consolation, you'd have been hard pushed to pick a decent one these days - either side of the Pond. I ended up buying a 'vintage' 1980s one in really good nick from Ebay. It's a cracker, and it cost me only £100, and it's the same make as the ones I grew up sleeping soundly on (Relyon), but their modern ones suck, so I wouldn't recommend that brand anymore. Like you, I'm a back sleeper and i need firm support, or my sciatica can be activated. Financially speaking you're well within your rights to reject the goods, but if it's anything like UK consumer law where you live, you'd need to act with in the 1st 6 months to get a refund. As it's not fit for purpose, you're entitled to an exchange or credit (which you likely don't want) even at this point, but you may want to cut your losses. $900, though Just goes to show you don't get what you pay for anymore. It's a built-in irony that we end up too tired to take action in a timely manner when these mattresses fail! I personally have had no luck with pocket springs. They're designed for double beds to prevent 'roll together', and I was told by an expert that they're not good used in singles. Before I bought my vintage one, I was going to try here: www.thewoolroom.com/ after seeing an impressive review of a wool mattress on Y/tube. You'd find it easily, i think. he did 2; 1 when he bought it, and 6 months later. It was firm, and they are springless. He also said it kept him cool in the warm weather, and vice versa. I bought one from Ikea a few years back, and it had a lovely springbox - which is everything, and waaaay more important than 'comfort layers'. I had to ditch it, as the top was synthetic latex and it was hotter than the sun to sleep on! Broke my heart, as I could tell it was a good'n. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Me too, I was about to buy this type of sealy. I've opened my mid price mattress, and the top materials seem no different to the samples they show on expensive mattresses. I replaced what was necessary, using a few layers of quality yoga mats, then memory topper. Having a bad back, I needed it to be supportive, and it's good.

Appreciate this video, as opposed to other misleading sources online. Why are there so very many people online telling horror stories, cautioning and discouraging everyone from even thinking about disassembling their mattresses? (i.e. from Reddit: "I removed the moisture-wicking fabric cover from my temperpedic and it released fiberglass into my room, I have to throw away all my clothes!")
I need to redo my mattress. I had no idea we could do this. At the end it seemed there were a new mattress bottom n cover? Is that correct? Inquiring because you took most everything off yet at the end there was a zipper to zip it all up. I was going to throw the mattress and purchase another until I saw this video. Thank you for sharing this information. 😊
very informative video, I will definitely keep it in mind! But instead of replacing it with memory foam which will form the very same dips again in a short timeframe, I would replace it with latex or a 3 inch latex topper. At least then you'll get something that lasts longer.
Thank you for this video...This is my story I started getting hip and back pain a few days ago and got some relief after sleeping on the floor for just one night. Therefore, I deduced that the mattress was definitely the issue. Consequently, I decided that a new mattress was the only option. However, after getting information on what type of mattress I needed and weighed that against the cost, I was simply not able to get a new one. After looking at this video I got my courage up to destroy my mattress. The springs had a dip so it's no good but it was quite telling because the mattress barely had two inches of padding (foam etc) on either side of those horrible springs. I will be sleeping on the padding tonight minus the springs added to some comforters for some more comfort. Anyway, what I'm saying is that thanks to this video I felt like I had another, albeit unconventional, option that did not entail spending money on a new mattress.
I purchased a temperpedic, (conforms to your body) is a easy way of saying “saggs all around you and causes severe body aches in a short time. Then I purchased a new pillow top spring matress, 4 months before it started sagging and causing pain again. Long story short, don’t bother buying a new matress they are all made to fail and warranties are bs.
Get a memory foam topper and a pillow top topper plus get a steel bunkie board and slide it btwn the mattress and box spring buy all of this and use it when you first get your mattress an it won't ever sag
I was just about to comment the same thing until i saw your msg. i did the exact same thing but put a 3/4 thick 4x8 plywood between the 2 mattresses and added a 2inch memory foam topper and i get the best sleep
Phew* About to go buy a replacement piece for our old icomfort from Serta. I have a cart waiting with the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress, soooo glad I didn't click purchase! 😮
My Sealy felt great new but just a year later and it's a bit uncomfortable to lay on my back due to crazy sagging around my mid section. Thanks for showing me it is a doable thing to fix.
I wish they made mattresses with zippers. LOVE THIS VIDEO. Do you have to take off the bad layers or can you just put new layers in a cover like a topper, on top?
I would suggest removing the bad layers because if the good layers are laying on sagging bad layers, they are just going to conform to that sagging spot
Not what I was expecting at all from this video, we’re going to look at mattresses this week to figure out if my wife needs a firm or not, once we do I will definitely be getting ahold of y’all thank you
So I have a question about the springs not being part of the problem. In this video, they are using a level to show that the springs still result in a flat mattress, but I would argue that of course they will... they are springs! They'll stand to their intended height, but I would suspect wouldn't be as resiliant as before (that is, would resist less when pressure is applied). Has anyone examined this? Can springs in a mattress be rearranged?
Good point about springs losing their stiffness over time. They cannot be rearranged since the individual springs/coils are encased in an individual fabric pocket and the fabric between adjacent springs are glued together during manufacturing
Excellent video. Would you recommend memory foam or natural latex for firm and hot sleepers. (We’re leading towards 4” natural latex) since we’re also down to the springs as well. Excellent information and demo!
I'm sure you've already made your decision but in case someone else reads this the consensus seems to be that latex is the better solution for hot sleepers. The problem with memory foam (even with gel) is that you tend to sink into the foam and so the heat gets trapped. Latex does a better job at radiating the heat off into the material below it and so keeps you cooler during the night.
I remember the days when mattresses actually lasted. You could also flip them over to get even more life out of them.. From watching this video, it appears that the "pillow top and/or euro top" mattresses are a waste of money (and it costs more for those). Thanks for the video!
I have a 14 yr old Sealy. This is the exact problem it has, depressions on each sleeping side. Like bowls. I have already ordered a new mattress but now that I see this option, I may be returning the new one and instead try this refurbish method for the old one. Thanks!
How does this affect edge support? My current mattress (quite old Seally I believe) has a thick Piping that gives it edge support that would have to be removed..😢
Usually, these older mattresses have foam encasement as edge supports, we offer replacement foam edge supports and can even custom order them at special sizes if you need it.
Same situation. Have a brand new mattress, ordered through Serta's hotel line, since I seem to do fine in most hotels, just not on our home mattresses, no matter how expensive. Made the mistake of getting a pillow-top. Within a couple hours I'm sleeping in a ditch, changing positions throughout the night, and waking up with a sore back. Unfortunately it's nonrefundable. So I'm either going to donate a brand new $1200 mattress or maybe cut it open to remove the pillow-top. What did you end up doing? How was your result?
have a Amart pure foam mattress cost 4000aud 10y warranty its sagging, they said thats fair and tear so not covered. new one they said grey for bad back but its so hard iv never felt so saw. so i decided to see if i can get the top of the new one, removing the covering there a massive defect tear in the base under it, know wonder i fall in a hole, of course its now well you ripped it when opening. i did it so carefully. i need the topper off it thats glued on. on a pension so cant afford what the 100mm topper of memory foam costs. will take days and wont be perfect. any tipps to getting it off.
I am interested in the entire set, the foam topper for a Queen mattress and the same mattress cover shown in the video. I don't see the nice one with "pillow top" look shown in the video on your website. Is the same zipper cover still available to purchase today?
We have a sleep number bed without a mattress pad. They wear out too fast. We have been doing mattress toppers on top of the sleep number. I would love to do your mattress cover and pad. But how do you do it with the air tubes for the sleep number? I am guessing I will need to cut openings in the cover. Thanks this video was super informative.
Hi. I am a hot sleeper and it seems in Australia it’s very difficult to find a cold mattress.. do you have any idea how to fix that issue? Something that can be shipped to Australia.
Just now replying to anther post, I heard a review here on Y/tube for solid wool mattresses. The guy was living in Japan, where it was hot and humid, but said he hadn't needed his air con since getting it. I'll try find the link for you, but i think you'd find the review easily enough. He did 2: 1 at the time, then 6 months hence. He was well stoked about the quality. I'm a hot sleeper, too, so was looking in to wool mattresses, as they regulate you, apparently.
It is so frustrating that after having a mattress for 2 years I am watching videos on this.. The world is just full of poor made products that end up in landfills
Why not cut the foam taken off, down the middle and flip them round so that the middle sag is then on the outside edges. Then glue them together and put back. Good for another few years at no cost.
I suppose that's an option but I'd personally not do it because I'd likely feel the glue line and also because that's a lot of effort for a short term fix (and it'd still require the zipper mattress cover cost anyway)
I was about to post the same question. Is it sufficient to leave the pillow top on the bottom or best to strip it and if so, does it need to be protected on the bottom? thanks in advance.
I put a cardboard slip sheet between my mattress and my removable topper. Kind of stiff at first but a quick fix for a saggy-azz bed. Grab one for free at Walmart where the bottled water is. Fold it in-half and put it in your cart ...nobody will care or question it.
I got a question, why can't I just flip that pillow top to the bottom and compress it even more? Especially if like you said, it is not the springs that are bad just the old foam topper?
@@esb9814 Yes. Actually, I should embrace my inner Klingon and stop pampering my body with soft cushy things and learn to sleep on the floor. Then foam mattresses, (and replacing the tops thereof) would be of no importance or added expense. May I ask you, are you tired of having to repurchase items repeatedly?
If he would have kept on removing to see the springs he would've seen that the springs are individually wrapped and they leave gaps between the coils and the wall of mattress and when you lay down the coils lay down and because if the gap they eventually dont pop back up. When u see coils fill the space between the wall and coils with foam and they will stay in upright position and you wont have dips.
The tufts are actually tufted strings / rope. You can still change the foam, however you will need to cut the tufted strings and you will not be able to retuft the mattress. But if you want to use their spring and foam that is still in good shape, you can most definitely proceed with the process and upgrade the bad foam that is inside it. Hope this helps!
It is very unusual for the springs to sag at all. I would say you have a more than 9/10 chance that the springs are fine. Unfortunately the only way to verify that is to remove the foam.
I see where you listed where to purchased the cover (we'll be getting one from you if Sears keeps screwing us on our warranty on our Sealy mattress), but where would I purchase the 3: dense foam you spoke of? Thank you (Like dovey says), for saving us over $1400!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wouldn't this work for an all foam mattress too? ous has a 2-3" top foam layer, with firmer foam underneath. I believe the top layer is the only one causing me problems...

If you buy a double sided mattress, flip it and rotate it frequently, you will get a lot more life out of your purchase. Single sided mattresses wear out quicker no matter what you do to it. Sleep in the same spot 8 hours a night and your gonna have dips. There’s just No getting around it. The hardest , most jagged rock in the world will wear down over time when thrown into a river. Time and pressure wears out anything

This does sound a great idea except for the price. The king size shell alone is already ~$275. Meanwhile a BRS900 king size mattress can be had for $490 during BF. The only thing that doesn't work is the price.
Hello! You can get a King cover and 2" Regular Medium Foam for about $459 and (Queen Size for about $398). Not only does this allow for permanent access to your mattress (to avoid buying mattress after mattress, allowing our customers to only buy parts and not retail pricing), but with some due diligence, you will see the Medium Regular Foam seems to be above the industry standard for Polyurathane Foam. At a 1.8 density, it is hard to find standard mattresses using the foam in the mattress industry, as 1.5 and below is very common (if your mattress salesman/manufacturer is even willing to disclose that to you), especially as memory foam has gotten more popular. We pride ourselves in saving our customers money in the long run and being fully transparent in whats within our mattresses, as the quality of mattresses have depreciated over the years (for a fair price)
i feel like a new matress would be more afordable for me at this point. seeing the price of the gell foam and the cover together they are more than what my matress was when i got it. id be better off getting a cheap matres in a box at this point
This is also an advertizemt for encasing the whole mattress once the new toppers on. But I feel like it would scoot around? Maybe someone that has had the encasement on for a while could give us an updated review on just that?

Before I bought my vintage one, I was going to try here: www.thewoolroom.com/
after seeing an impressive review of a wool mattress on Y/tube.
Idk where you guys are located but I am almost relieved that I hopefully have an option! Genius! But the real reason I wanted to comment is because I feel like you guys are just down right genuinely great men! I can just tell you're real stand up gents! I wanted to tell you, I think you're great! Thank you for being YOU! 🤟🏽
Hi, We're located in Pottstown, PA. I'm glad you like our ideas on fixing mattresses! If you need any advice let us know.
How much have the industry standards changed over the years ! Guy in video fantastic. Really helpful to-do demo.
I flip my pillow top upside down and it was the best firm feeling ever. Try it. 💯✊🏿
Thanks. This is great. Also more hygienic, getting rid of the old foam, think of all the years of sweat that contains not to mention dust mites etc .
Thank you for this video...This is my story
I started getting hip and back pain a few days ago and got some relief after sleeping on the floor for just one night.
Lol I used to think there is special foams inside these beds 🤣 wow
Not what I was expecting at all from this video, we’re going to look at mattresses this week to figure out if my wife needs a firm or not, once we do I will definitely be getting ahold of y’all thank you
Wow, this was very interesting. Great ideas.
great video, really helped, looking for buying a good second-hand mattress and thinking of future repairs
Glad it was helpful!
What a great idea ! That looks fabulous ! I will remember this this and share with friends !
Thank you Lily!
So glad I found you need one. Should I pick the mattress color?
Excellent video.
Would you recommend memory foam or natural latex for firm and hot sleepers.
(We’re leading towards 4” natural latex) since we’re also down to the springs as well.
Excellent information and demo!
I'm sure you've already made your decision but in case someone else reads this the consensus seems to be that latex is the better solution for hot sleepers. The problem with memory foam (even with gel) is that you tend to sink into the foam and so the heat gets trapped. Latex does a better job at radiating the heat off into the material below it and so keeps you cooler during the night.
Mine dipped in the same spot I was told to rotate it so now I'm waiting to see if that helps
I remember the days when mattresses actually lasted. You could also flip them over to get even more life out of them.. From watching this video, it appears that the "pillow top and/or euro top" mattresses are a waste of money (and it costs more for those). Thanks for the video!
I don't see your mattress cover on your website? I like the smooth non-textured cover of this one.
I have a 14 yr old Sealy. This is the exact problem it has, depressions on each sleeping side. Like bowls. I have already ordered a new mattress but now that I see this option, I may be returning the new one and instead try this refurbish method for the old one. Thanks!
No Problem! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask or call us at 610-327-2322
@@magicsleeper My question is where would I get the new foam layers and the new cover? In Canada.
On our website: www.magicsleepermattress.com/ @@billybobbarker3175
How does this affect edge support? My current mattress (quite old Seally I believe) has a thick Piping that gives it edge support that would have to be removed..😢
Usually, these older mattresses have foam encasement as edge supports, we offer replacement foam edge supports and can even custom order them at special sizes if you need it.
Really worked out well and saved us alot of money instead of replaciing a king size mattress!
My brand new pillow top mattress is too soft!! Thinking about using this tutorial to remove the 'pillow'....Thank you!!!
Hello there, the cover in the link is very different as it is not quilted as this one. where can I get this one in the video please ?
have a Amart pure foam mattress cost 4000aud 10y warranty its sagging, they said thats fair and tear so not covered. new one they said grey for bad back but its so hard iv never felt so saw. so i decided to see if i can get the top of the new one, removing the covering there a massive defect tear in the base under it, know wonder i fall in a hole, of course its now well you ripped it when opening. i did it so carefully. i need the topper off it thats glued on. on a pension so cant afford what the 100mm topper of memory foam costs. will take days and wont be perfect. any tipps to getting it off.
I am interested in the entire set, the foam topper for a Queen mattress and the same mattress cover shown in the video. I don't see the nice one with "pillow top" look shown in the video on your website. Is the same zipper cover still available to purchase today?
5 mins in this video and I realized this guy ain't talking at all xD I stared at his mouth scared me 😂
We have a sleep number bed without a mattress pad. They wear out too fast. We have been doing mattress toppers on top of the sleep number. I would love to do your mattress cover and pad. But how do you do it with the air tubes for the sleep number? I am guessing I will need to cut openings in the cover. Thanks this video was super informative.
We would be able to make that for you. what model is your sleep number do you know?
@@magicsleeper My husband has the paper work. I will get him to look it up. Thanks

My back was hurting for a month now thanks mate
Love this, it is exactly the smart thing to do!
Thank you so much for posting this! What a help!
Thanks! I'm glad you found it helpful!
It is so frustrating that after having a mattress for 2 years I am watching videos on this.. The world is just full of poor made products that end up in landfills
Like a foam bridge over troubled springs...
Hi guys. after replacing the foam you also sell what covers the mattress as ordered or comes along with the foam
The covers are a separate item
Oh whoa. I had a hunch I could just turn an old pillow top into a box spring, this seems like you pretty much can
Seems obvious but without knowing the inner construction, for all I knew it could be intertwined in ways to make it useless
watching in 2021, this kicks ass, good job !!!!
Would this option work on a double sided pillow top also?
I was about to post the same question. Is it sufficient to leave the pillow top on the bottom or best to strip it and if so, does it need to be protected on the bottom? thanks in advance.
Hi great job..where do I get the mattress cover to buy I am in Jamaica.... thanks
I put a cardboard slip sheet between my mattress and my removable topper. Kind of stiff at first but a quick fix for a saggy-azz bed.
Grab one for free at Walmart where the bottled water is. Fold it in-half and put it in your cart ...nobody will care or question it.
Is the cover bug proof? That’s would be my only concern with this product.
I got a question, why can't I just flip that pillow top to the bottom and compress it even more? Especially if like you said, it is not the springs that are bad just the old foam topper?
so you'd be sleeping on springs?
@@esb9814 Yes. Actually, I should embrace my inner Klingon and stop pampering my body with soft cushy things and learn to sleep on the floor. Then foam mattresses, (and replacing the tops thereof) would be of no importance or added expense. May I ask you, are you tired of having to repurchase items repeatedly?
Do you have one for California king? Also you said you had different material options, but I don't see them.
The website is not working
If he would have kept on removing to see the springs he would've seen that the springs are individually wrapped and they leave gaps between the coils and the wall of mattress and when you lay down the coils lay down and because if the gap they eventually dont pop back up. When u see coils fill the space between the wall and coils with foam and they will stay in upright position and you wont have dips.
What?
😒
@@Nick-cs9dt You know the wall and the thing of the mattress gap deal
@@robnation2475 oh, you mean the gap thing wall spring lie down coil foam pop then you get don’t dips.
Why didn’t he just say so, clear as day now.
@@Nick-cs9dt I know, right?!
If the mattress is an aireloom that is tufted, is there a bunch of rods going through the mattress where you won't be able to change the foam?
The tufts are actually tufted strings / rope. You can still change the foam, however you will need to cut the tufted strings and you will not be able to retuft the mattress. But if you want to use their spring and foam that is still in good shape, you can most definitely proceed with the process and upgrade the bad foam that is inside it. Hope this helps!
After you put the foam on it, do you still use the top layer that you lay on or do you discard that and use only the new foam.
@@watchurcoins You can either lay your existing panel on top of the foam or you can buy our zippered encasement shell that zips around your mattress.
Is there a way to tell if the springs are the problem without tearing the top off?
It is very unusual for the springs to sag at all. I would say you have a more than 9/10 chance that the springs are fine. Unfortunately the only way to verify that is to remove the foam.
Thank you!
thanks for the video. Where to buy the zipper cover?
www.magicsleepermattress.com/collections/fix-a-dip-in-your-mattress
is it 'fix dip shell'? I have been searching using these search words 'mattress cover zipper'. I did not find it.
Oh man....I didn’t know that Sam the cooking guy was in the mattress repair business now!

Can you come to my house and fix my three week old sagging Stern and Foster mattress? lol
wouldn't this work for an all foam mattress too? ous has a 2-3" top foam layer, with firmer foam underneath. I believe the top layer is the only one causing me problems...
Are you no longer doing this? Please say you are I can’t find you anywhere. Website is not in use I need this so bad

Good video. Can I order the foam and/or cover from you? If not, where can I purchase them? Thanks!
It's in the description.
If you buy a double sided mattress, flip it and rotate it frequently, you will get a lot more life out of your purchase. Single sided mattresses wear out quicker no matter what you do to it. Sleep in the same spot 8 hours a night and your gonna have dips. There’s just No getting around it.

Is there a company that sells replacements for a Cal King?
We do
i just got a new mattress back in october, and it already has a massive dip in it :/ and it’s so uncomfortable now, idk how to tell my parents, idk if i get a mattress topper or flip it around plus it was really expensive. i literally don’t know what to do.
Complain to the seller and manufacturer and request a replacement right away.
Does this work with a jenna mattress as well
Any mattress
The other video the guy cut the sewn strings and pulled like a bag of dog food. Much better than cutting it
cut and pull won't work if the topper is tightly glued to the box spring.
How long did it take to get the replacement?
It takes about a week to ship out and it goes Fedex Ground.
@@magicsleeper Awesome thanks so much
@@MicheleLumadue of course!
Ok, where can I get metal springs? That's all I need to DIY my mattress, ex let that foam/cover.
i feel like a new matress would be more afordable for me at this point. seeing the price of the gell foam and the cover together they are more than what my matress was when i got it. id be better off getting a cheap matres in a box at this point
This was very helpful
Did you sew the zipper?! Where did it come from?! Cuz its the hardest part of this fix, to re attach the top.
This is also an advertizemt for encasing the whole mattress once the new toppers on. But I feel like it would scoot around? Maybe someone that has had the encasement on for a while could give us an updated review on just that?
